Palm Sunday, delivered On Palm Sunday, congregants of Longboat Island Chapel made sure as many of their fellows as possible could celebrate in a somewhat normal way by distributing palm fronds to front doors. Susan and Bruce Schaefer maintained social distancing and called ahead to let them know they’d place the fronds at the door, knock and leave. “We hoped to provide a small amount of normalcy to their lives and to let them know they are in our hearts,” she said. If you live on the beach or can find a way to the sand, take full advantage. There may not be this few people to share the sand with ever again, so enjoy a nice long walk with only the seabirds as companions. Take care to maintain social distancing as sunset approaches and more folks venture out to see the sights.
Easter services
Longing for an Easter church service, but watching a streaming version on a computer screen isn’t quite as majestic as you’d like? At 9:15 a.m. Sunday, All Angels by the Sea Episcopal will host a drive-in service at 563 Bay Isles Road. Guests stay in their cars and tune the car sound system to 99.9 FM to listen. For those who wish to stay home, the church will be streaming the service online. Christ Church of Longboat Key will also worship via streaming at 10 a.m.
