Traffic at U.S. 41 and Gulfstream Avenue is a frequent sore spot.
Tony Sapuppo, a former electrical and mechanical inspector for the town of Longboat Key, died Jan. 25. His family and friends invite those who knew Sapuppo to a memorial at 10 a.m. Feb. 15 at St. Mary, Star of the Sea, Catholic Church. A casual gathering will follow at Bayfront Park, 4052 Gulf of Mexico Drive. Sapuppo’s wife, Jeni, said her husband was their disabled daughter Madeline’s best friend. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to aid in Madeline’s care. Visit GoFundMe.com, and search Sapuppo’s name to donate.

Simplifying sustainability The town is hosting two free Green Living workshops from 10-11:30 a.m. Feb. 28 and March 6 at Town Hall, 546 Bay Isles Road. Attendees will hear from Sarasota County sustainability representatives on getting started on the myriad ways to support a greener lifestyle overall, such as in energy, water, waste, transportation and food and helping attendees prioritize what will work best for them. The discussion will also involve ways to reduce microplastics, the tiny particles with the ability to wreak havoc on the ocean’s food system and human health.
