Save the date for a deal Looking for a gift for a special someone — and really don’t want to pay shopping mall prices? We’ll keep your secret if you mark your calendar for March 7, when St. Mary, Star of the Sea, Catholic Church rolls out its Royal Rummage Sale, where you can find clothing, toys, household items, jewelry, books, electronics and pretty much everything you’d find at any self-respecting mall. In addition to lower prices, you’ll also be happy to know proceeds go to a good cause. There’s also an early bird sale March 6, for $5 to get first crack at the good stuff.

Cheers to Longboat police Longboat Key police officers received a pretty cool (or hot, depending on their choice of beverage) gift from two island residents. On Valentine’s Day, every member of the Police Department got personalized Yeti tumblers from residents Mike and Lynn Madden as a thank you for all the work they do for the community. “These gifts created some genuine excitement, and of course, the members of the Police Department always like feeling appreciated,” administrative assistant Susan Rochford wrote in an email.
