Mayor Gans makes nice list
FROLICKING FUN
Newly appointed Mayor Terry Gans is definitely making the nice list this year. Gans assisted the Longboat Key Kiwanis Club with its annual bell ringing for the Salvation Army on Dec. 16. The Kiwanis Club will be ringing the bell outside of Publix until Christmas Eve. For the past 10 years, the club’s kettle has been a top producer for the Salvation Army, said John Wild, volunteer coordinator for the club. In 2015, the club was the top location and is the leader for 2016, said Glenda Leonard, development director for The Salvation Army.

Turtle Watch makes big donation The Longboat Key Turtle Watch on Dec. 12 donated $8,405 to Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium. The money will be shared among Mote’s various programs. “This year was an incredible, record-breaking year for local sea turtle nests,” Kristen Mazzarella, Mote senior biologist, said in a statement. “We are immensely grateful for Longboat Key Turtle Watch’s support, which will help us gear up for another successful season, especially following such an eventful year.”
