Michael Kors is one of Longboat Key’s most famous new property owners. For weeks, rumors have floated that Kors would participate in the Longboat Key Garden Club’s Taste of the Keys fashion show fundraiser Jan. 27. But alas, “Project Longboat” won’t become a reality, at least this season. Kors withdrew his commitment last week. But the show will go on. Instead, the Garden Club will welcome fashions from a store with home turf on the Key: J.McLaughlin, located in the Shoppes of Bay Isles. “I am very grateful to have J.McLaughlin as a partner in this event because they’re a quality brand, they’re local, and they’ve already supported community events,” Garden Club President Susan Phillips said. “They’re giving us a more enhanced show than we would’ve had with Michael Kors.” SEE PAGE 14A
