Officer helps get boat back home A boat ride can be fun, but not when the boat decides to take a cruise on its own. George Rauch had occasion to thank Police Officer Josh Connors (above) after just such an occurrence. Rauch’s pontoon boat slipped away from the dock and drifted to a neighbor’s dock. Connors checked on the registration and made sure the craft got home. “We are grateful. Thank you, Officer Connors,’’ Rauch wrote to Chief Pete Cumming.

U of Michigan thanks Gussin It came as a surprise to Bob Gussin (above) when the University of Michigan’s Medical School Alumni Association called with the news. Gussin had been given the group’s Distinguished Alumnus Humanitarian Service Award. “To be given this award was quite touching,” he said. “I’m thrilled that a school this big with so many grads would give me this award.” Gussin completed his doctorate in pharmacology at the school in 1965 and endowed a professorship in pharmacology there.
