Pam Parker-Chilson, Amy Parker and Beth Carroll

Amy Parker turns 100 Longboater Amy Parker hit the century mark Sept. 25 amid a lively gathering of friends and family. Daughters Beth Carroll and Pam Parker-Chilson organized a party at Twin Shores for their mother, who has lived on Longboat since 1982. Once the guest of honor arrived and was settled, it seemed she was greeted by an endless stream of well-wishers and friends through the ages. On one wall was a slideshow of Parker’s life, starting with black and white photos from childhood and capturing holidays throughout the years with family.

Michael O’Neil

Dentist raising awareness for breast cancer The dentist in the pink suit will see you now. Michael O’Neil, of Longboat Key Dental, has a cardboard cutout of himself cheerfully standing sentry in his lobby and pointing you toward his office, where you can donate to his campaign (called “Real Men Wear Pink”) to raise money for breast cancer research. “Breast cancer affects everyone — it doesn’t matter if you’re a man or a woman,” O’Neil wrote in a flyer. “Since I’m able to make a difference in my community, I believe I have an obligation to do so.”
