2017: Year in Review THE GOOD, THE BAD, THE WINDY
Murray Blueglass and Dave Brenner in March 2016.
Stand-up citizen
Longboat Key resident Murray Blueglass received the Carroll Buchanan Award on Dec. 3. The award is given out each year in Buchanan’s name to someone who has demonstrated a lifetime commitment to Democratic principles, values and causes, a statement from the Democratic Club of Sarasota said. From 2008 to 2017, Blueglass served as president of the Longboat Key Democratic Club.

Gifts of cheer
Like many Longboat Key organizations, the Rotary Club of Longboat Key is spreading holiday cheer this season. At its Dec. 4 meeting, members presented nearly 100 gifts to be donated to the children of migrant workers in the Arcadia area and to the residents in a Manatee assisted-living facility. This was in a partnership with Holy Cross Catholic Church in Palmetto.
