A veteran tells his service story A U.S. Navy veteran who served in Vietnam, Lakewood Ranch’s Ron Babcock, spoke Nov. 8 to students at Braden River High School. “I am sharing a story about a 17-year-old high school dropout who became a leader,” Babcock said. “I think it is important for students to be aware of what it is like to be a veteran, and to be aware of the importance of serving America.”

Handle with care When three baby squirrels fell from a tree Nov. 1 in Cristina Dawson’s yard, she knew her neighbor, Mill Creek’s Kathy Banks, would know what to do. Banks, who has a history of rescuing animals, began caring for the babies, known as kits, who are getting bottles of formula every four hours, in addition to munching on mangos, carrots, broccoli and peanuts. Banks said the babies are about 8 weeks old, and she’ll return them to the wild when they are about 13 weeks old.
