Chiswick House Camellia Festival 1-31 March

Showcasing the wonderful Chiswick House camellia collection, the Chiswick House Camellia Festival is a fantastic way to see these beautiful blooms in all their glory. Housed in the gardens’ spectacular conservatory, designed by Samuel Ware in 1813, the collection is the oldest in the Western world. It began life in the early 19th century by the 6th Duke of Devonshire and many of the 33 different varieties shown in the collection are descended from the original planting. Known as the Queen of the Winter Flowers, the camellias at Chiswick bring the beginnings of Spring to life, with the vibrant colours a welcome sight after the long winter. NOMOS GLASHÜTTE

More Time For Doctors Without Borders NOMOS Glashütte continues supporting the work of Nobel Prize-winning organization Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières with new limited edition models: Tangente Neomatik. Whether in Cameroon, Indonesia, Yemen, or Mexico, millions of people worldwide need emergency aid. Doctors Without Borders provides assistance around the globe, with over 41,000 employees working in areas affected by conflict, epidemics, famines, and the consequences of flight and displacement. Watchmaking company NOMOS Glashütte has long supported the efforts of the Nobel Prize-winning organization: to date, 8,000 watches have been produced to raise funds for emergency aid. This collaboration was scheduled to end in 2018 but both NOMOS and the German section of Doctors Without Borders (Ärzte ohne Grenzen) have decided to continue this worthwhile project and help further. This time, the NOMOS classic is available as an automatic model in two sizes: Tangente neomatik and Tangente neomatik 39. Both are powered by the ultra-thin neomatik caliber DUW 3001, which measures just 3.2 millimeters in height and features an in-house escapement: the renowned NOMOS swing system. A subtle “Ärzte ohne Grenzen” inscription at six o’clock on the dial and a larger engraving on the back pay tribute to the organization and the elegant timepiece also sports a red twelve in both versions as this is the this is the colour of Doctors Without Borders and of emergency aid. They also come with the new comfortable NOMOS bracelet.

Limited to just 250 pieces, NOMOS Glashütte and its retailers will be donating 250 EUR from each limited edition Tangente sold directly to those in need. This sum could, for example, fund sustenance for a month for eleven children suffering from malnutrition, ten doses of anesthesia for severely injured individuals, and measles vaccinations for thousands of at-risk children. “In epidemics and other emergency situations, we need to react quickly. Numerous donations by private individuals and companies are what allow us to do so,” says Florian Westphal, General Director of Ärzte ohne Grenzen. “We are very grateful to NOMOS Glashütte for its generous support. Valuable contributions of this kind allow us to work in approximately 70 countries worldwide, providing lifesaving medical assistance.”

A. LANGE & SÖHNE

GRAND LANGE 1 MOON PHASE

In its anniversary year, commemorating the launch of the Lange 1 in October 1994, the Grand Lange 1 Moon Phase will be released as a jubilee edition in white gold with just 25 watches. Featuring an argenté-coloured dial in solid silver with printed deep-blue numerals and a white-gold lunar disc with hand-engraved stars, this limited edition of the classic, is the second model from the anniversary which A. Lange & Söhne is celebrating. Special features of the stunning piece include a colourcoordinated blue alligator leather strap with grey stitching and a inlaid golden moon, which forms a unique three-dimensional night scene. Furthermore, it is the first Lange watch with a handengraved lunar disc made of solid white gold. With a diameter of 41 millimetres, the Grand Lange 1 Moon Phase launched in 2014 is 2.5 millimetres larger than the Lange 1 Moon Phase. The moon-phase display, which is correct for 122.6 years, is also larger than that of its sister model and has moved

from a subsidiary seconds dial to the main dial with the hour and minute display. This ensures that the Grand Lange 1 Moon Phase gives the most space to this astronomical complication of all the moon-phase models from A. Lange & Söhne. The sapphire-crystal caseback reveals the calibre L095.3 that is meticulously decorated and twice assembled by hand with the typical characteristics of the Lange 1 watch family. The threequarter plate made of untreated German silver decorated with Glashütte ribbing affords a view of the screw balance with a balance spring developed and manufactured in-house. This is held in place by a hand-engraved balance cock with a special engraving: the number “25” in the Lange-typical outsize date window, surrounded by a floral pattern. The number “25” refers to the anniversary of the presentation of the first Lange collection of the new era. On 24 October 1994, company founder Walter Lange and his partner Günter Blümlein presented the first four wristwatches since the company’s relaunch - among them the Lange 1 - at the Dresdner Residenzschloss, the royal palace in Dresden. With its off-centre dial layout and the typical Lange outsize date, it is the best-known example of the A. Lange & Söhne watches. In order to celebrate this anniversary fittingly, a limited-edition classic from the Lange 1 watch family will be presented every month until 24 October 2019.

The collaboration between Habanos S.A. and Zenith has been consistently successful with the Cohiba brand and now continues with the Trinidad brand. The contrasting silver subdials - 12-hour and 30-minute chronograph counters and a small second subdial - indicate that the watch is driven by the Breitling Manufacture Caliber 01, the brand’s in-house mechanical movement, which delivers a remarkable power reserve of approximately 70 hours. The striking chronograph is equipped with a bidirectional rotating bezel featuring Arabic numerals and indexes as well as a practical red pointer. The Super-LumiNova® coating on the hour and minute hands and the Arabic numerals on the dial make it easy to read the time in any light. In a special touch, the eye-catching caseback has a transparent sapphire crystal printed with a Curtiss inscription and an image of an airborne P-40 Warhawk, whose design, with its shark’s mouth and color scheme, is based on the characteristic paint job associated with the plane when it was piloted by the American Volunteer Group in the Chinese Air Force’s famed Flying Tigers unit.

The P-40 Warhawks were manufactured between 1938 and 1944. To celebrate the aviation legend and further cement the brand’s aviation connection, Breitling have created two chronographs - one featuring a Breitling Manufacture Caliber 01 movement - along with a stunning three-hand model. When commercial assets meet the personal life… with Toby Hales, Family Law Partner at Irwin Mitchell Private Wealth.

of shares and property owned by the entrepreneur, which took Asos from a £12m company when it floated on AIM in 2001, to a £3bn company today. Stories like that of the former Asos chief executive are the stuff of nightmares for entrepreneurs and successful businesspeople alike, but it is not often that they think about

“The majority of people don’t really plan well enough for the future,” said Toby Hales, Family Law Partner at Irwin Mitchell Private Wealth. “We deal with financial situations where people haven’t really thought this will happen to them.” Businesses can be put at risk by far more personal matters, which is why Hales urges business owners to plan carefully. “Being in a firm like this where we have such a big and wide ranging business team, there is much more of a focus on acting for people with business interests.” “It is best to be involved right at the beginning of the story,” said Hales, “You have to untangle so much, particularly if a couple are in business together or family assets are involved. For example, an up and coming entrepreneur who is doing really well and the business is flying - they don’t necessarily think that in 15 years’ time they might be sitting down talking about whether their current partner will get a share of the business they have built.” Hales continued: “As business owners, having to extract that money means implications for the business. How are they going to get it out of the business? Then it’s getting to the bottom of what the business is worth and other things which are massively disruptive.” Hales notes the high profile divorce of Asos founder Nick Robertson, forcing him to sell 1.3m shares through a placing with institutional investors last year to fund his £70m divorce settlement. The judge was asked to decide how much Robertson’s ex-wife Janine should receive after they failed to come to an agreement on the division

the situation early enough to mitigate it. “This is not going to happen to everyone,” said Hales, “but on a more moderate level that happens to a lot of people, preparation in any event is therefore key. “We need to discuss how they want to structure the business; when setting up home with someone, having a cohabitation agreement; how to manage finances, to think about having the right shareholder agreements for instance. Much of what we do centres around providing a sense of stability and knowledge for clients going through that situation when the relationship does break down. “In terms of planning, the main thing is getting people to think about prenuptial agreements. As advisors now we must be talking about at least the option of a prenup to all our clients but especially the entrepreneurial ones. “People were sceptical about them in previous years, that they would even have an effect, but the law has moved on massively in the past five years.” Separation and divorce is going to represent a significant change to you and your family, especially if there is a business involved. Irwin Mitchell Private Wealth offer unrivalled guidance and methods to support you whatever the circumstance.

Tracie and her team offer a completely bespoke service which is tailored to suit each client’s individual requirements and one of the most popular treatments available is the signature Tracie Giles 3D Hair by Hair semi-permanent eyebrow procedure, also known as cosmetic tattooing. Requiring incredible skill, only the

most advanced equipment dedicated specifically to permanent makeup is used. Developed by Tracie and available exclusively in her Knightsbridge clinic, this is a celebrity favourite and instead of just enhancing your brows with a bit of colour, this treatment draws individual hairs into the skin under ultra-precise magnification and weaves microscopic, simulated hair strokes in between your natural ones using a bespoke pigment blend. The result is that your brows are lifted giving your whole face definition whilst also framing your eyes and you can then wake up every day with natural looking eyebrows that stays perfectly in place throughout the day. Treatments usually take up to two hours when you first have this done and you must then go back to the salon between four to six weeks later for a follow-up treatment. This allows for a safe, comfortable and gradual process and the results are truly amazing and massively anti-ageing. Tracie believes that it is essential that bespoke permanent makeup must be perfectly applied as this ultimately and successfully enhances your own natural features. Permanent Make-up can last for several years but this is dependent on several factors including skin type, sun exposure and lifestyle. It is recommended that you have a colour boost every six to eighteen months which usually takes about one hour. Without this, the colour will eventually fade away over time.

Jumeirah’s Dubai

The Home of Five Star Service Dubai has emerged from the desert in record time and now boasts one of the finest selection of buildings in the world, but that’s not all this mind blowing city has to offer. The home of Jumeirah, Dubai plays host to one of the most impressive collection of hotels on the planet, each with service to match.

THE CHEDI ANDERMATT

THE CHEDI Andermatt The small mountain village of Andermatt sits at the heart of the Saint-Gotthard Massif and was historically the crossing point through Switzerland providing passage for travellers, traders and armies alike from north to south and east to west. Once the treacherous Saint-Gotthard Pass had been made accessible to stagecoaches in the early 1800’s, the village flourished into a successful spa town, however, as soon as the Saint-Gotthard railway tunnel was completed - which runs directly under the village connecting the towns of Göschenen and Airolo - the

village’s fortunes turned and success short-lived. In the late 1800’s, the Swiss Federal Army converted Andermatt into a garrison town building infrastructure across the village for the High Command for use in the event of war. This once again brought some fortune to the residents of Andermatt thanks to the additional trade the soldiers brought, however this too was to be short-lived as the army moved the majority of their outfit away from the town leaving just a training centre - which remains today. Now, Andermatt is once again going through a transformation with extensive development across the village - so much so that it is due to double in size in the coming years. Hotels, housing and a whole host of amenities are under way to rebuild the once thriving year-round tourist industry in Andermatt. At the forefront of this push for success is the stunning Chedi hotel and spa. Completed four years ago, the hotel is Andermatt’s shining star, bringing a luxurious five-star experience to the heart of this Swiss mountain village. Boasting an impressive forecourt, perfect for displaying large collections of fine cars there to enjoy the mountain roads, and an entrance lobby to rival the best in the world, there is no mistaking the calibre of this hotel. Vast wooden clad public spaces welcome you in to this meticulously clean world of alpine meets asian

TRAVEL design. Clean, sharp lines meet the natural colours and textures of wood to create an inviting and luxurious atmosphere supported by wood burning open fires and plush seating in abundance. This theme is a continuation of the hotel’s exterior which again blends crisp modern glasswork with a classic natural wooden alpine resort style perfectly suited to this historic destination that is prepared for the future. A skiing destination in its own right, Andermatt is not restricted to offering interest solely over the ski season, in fact, the hotel along with the upcoming developments in the village are setting their sights on year-round tourism with a whole host of events and activities offering a different take on your Swiss mountain holiday. First on the list is possibly the most obvious that you probably haven’t ever considered. The impressive slopes that many enjoy sliding down in style during the ski season transform through Spring to unveil an alpine oasis full of vibrant colour and equally stunning scenery setting the scene for an idyllic alpine hike to explore the incredible surroundings Andermatt boasts. You can enjoy a stroll on your own - just make

sure you take a map - or can opt for one of the hotel’s hosted walks with local experts who can not only show you some of the best spots to enjoy the landscape, but can provide you with some incredible knowledge on the local area and alpine plants that could potentially save your life should you find yourself in a precarious situation on the mountains. Lush green covers the mountains like a carpet with an array of bright, fresh colours breaking through from delicate alpine flowers and berries that double as a potential meal or even a medicinal option in certain cases however beware, some also have the potential to kill you should you pick the wrong one. This is where your local expert guide on your herbal hike really comes into their own. Endlessly knowledgeable, they will be able to answer any question you might have with regard to the local flora and fauna whilst taking you on an energetic and rewarding hike through this spectacular region. The warmer months not only provide the perfect chance to enjoy a different side to the mountains, they also afford the opportunity to experience something unique to the alps. The production of Alp

cheese occurs only in the summer months and is strictly restricted to being produced in the mountains, from milking to maturation, the whole process must be completed in the mountains to receive the Alp cheese designation. For those staying at The Chedi, the hotel offers the unique opportunity to visit an Alp cheese producer in the mountains to actually create your very own wheel of cheese that will, once matured, be delivered to you anywhere in the world giving you a small piece of the Swiss Alps to remember your trip for as long as it lasts before you eat it all that is. Andermatt is blessed with its location, boasting an array of geological wonders on its doorstep along with some historical manmade features of equal proportion such as the impressive memorial site in Schöllenen Gorge commemorating the 1799 campaign of the Russian general Alexander Suvorov and the ‘Devil’s Bridge’ named after the legendary story of the trials undertaken to cross

the bridge controlled by the devil himself. The now numerous bridges criss-cross the gorge allowing access for vehicles and walkers alike providing essential access to the village and beyond. The easiest way to travel however is by train. With a station at the heart of Andermatt, you can travel via public transport all the way from Zurich should you choose, with incredible views along the journey, from lakes to the mountains, you won’t want to miss a thing. What better way to soak up the incredible landscape than by enjoying the winding mountain passages at the same time. Thankfully, the hotel have the impressive Audi RS 5 Coupé and TT RS Coupé on hand, available to all hotel guests - licence permitting of course - to take to the road and experience the Swiss Alps from a whole new perspective. Available during the summer months of July and August, it is advised that you make your driving intentions known as soon as possible to avoid any disappointment, they are always in high demand. For a slightly slower pace, the hotel also invites you to embark on a unique adventure in a Morgan 4/4 over the breathtaking San Bernardino Pass, the Tremola - Switzerland’s longest historic monument - as well as the Furka and Gotthard Pass. Enjoyed at a much more leisurely pace, you complete the day with a delicious three-course dinner at The Restaurant. There’s plenty of opportunity to relax and unwind once you’ve had your adrenalin fill at The Chedi, with a plethora of spaces to soak up the apres ski atmosphere year round with either a warming cocktail or refreshing glass of wine and if you want the ultimate relaxation experience, head to the well appointed spa to indulge in a tranquil break on one of the many poolside beds and loungers

The latter of the three also boast space for up to 10 people - yes, 10 - perfect for a large family trip to the mountains. DUBAI Housing both the biggest building and shopping mall in the world, Dubai does things on a large scale. With its range of western entertainments but older values, the emirate has cemented itself as one of the tourist hotspots of the world, offering visitors a wealth of things to do and see. Boasting a sweltering climate most of the year, the best time to visit is between November and March. However, Brits are not put off by the rising temperatures and often visit later into spring and the early summer months to make the most of the sun, where temperatures can often be well over 40 degrees Celsius everyday between June and September, and the travel bargains that can be had. From the many shopping opportunities to the beaches and water sports, you will never be bored in Dubai. Must visits include the glittering 828-metre-tall Burj Khalifa; the Dubai Fountains which can be accessed through the Dubai Mall - the largest mall in the world; the Marina; City Walk Dubai; The Frame; and the Madinat Jumeriah, a contemporary reincarnation of a mythical

Arabian city. Offering everything from designer brands to trinket shops and a wealth of food and drink outlets including the Pai Thai restaurant which is accessed by boat through scenic waterways, the Madinat also boasts a great view of the seven-star Burj Al Arab hotel. Islam is an important aspect of daily life, even in westernised Dubai. When visiting the vast shopping malls and public areas, women should dress modestly with skirts to the knees or longer and nothing too tight or revealing. Taxis are cheap and plentiful so you won’t have a hard time getting around regardless of where you are staying. Dubai, built from the desert in a matter of decades has grown into one of the most popular destinations for holiday makers in the world and it’s easy to see why. The vast range of entertainment and activities along with one of the most broad ranging culinary offerings on the globe and a directory of luxury hotels plentiful enough to rival anywhere else, there is little reason to dismiss it as your next destination of choice.

JUMEIRAH BEACH HOTEL

Making a statement with its striking architecture - despite being the first hotel in Dubai - The Jumeirah Beach Hotel has recently undergone a full refurbishment bringing its interior style in line with the innovative, forward thinking city in which it resides. With a striking wave-like design, it’s one of Dubai’s most stunning and instantly recognisable structures that continues to be a favourite for locals, new and returning holiday makers alike. Located on one of the region’s most impressive beaches with views stretching for miles, the luxurious modern property is inspired by the water it overlooks, offering 599 sea-facing rooms and suites and 19 royal villas all with stunning views of the Burj Al Arab. Not only that, the hotel encompasses more than 10 restaurants and bars, extensive conference and banqueting facilities, a Kids Club, Talise™ Spa, and direct complimentary access to Wild Wadi Waterpark™ for all guests. The hotel renovations were completed in October last year, covering all rooms & suites and the re-imagining of several of its dining experiences meaning that whether you have been before or are new to the property there is a new experience waiting for all. The redesign of its magnificent arrival atrium is one of the finest aspects of the refurbishment, complete with blooming suspended flowers that truly are a work of art. You’ll find yourself gazing up the 100m high atrium, as the kinetic display of lights called ‘The Meadows’ designed by Dutch Studio, Studio Drift, react to guests moving beneath them, as if they were blooming in the sun. Bursting with natural light, the hotel continues to bring the outside in with supporting columns in the lobby now featuring

tiny glass beads that create a quartz effect by reflecting light in all directions. There are also custom designed dazzling glass patterns that cover the surrounding walls allowing you to feel like the weight of the world has been lifted and your holiday in the sun can finally begin. This sense of tranquility is only enhanced when you arrive at your sumptuous room. Each of the 599 guest rooms and suites have been renovated to encapsulate a sense of calm luxury where anything is possible even if all you do is relax. Once again, inspired by the natural colours of the sea with subtle warming tones of blues and beiges to reflect the gentle waves and warm sand, the rooms are generously sized with sweeping views. Stunning floor-to-ceiling glass windows offer magnificent direct sea views of the Arabian Gulf and Burj Al Arab. The perfectly positioned seating areas provide you a bird’s eye view of the fabulous changing colour of the Burj Al Arab in the evening as well as the picture-perfect sunset. All rooms have Hypnos beds to ensure a good nights sleep after an activity packed day and spacious bathrooms offer all the amenities you could want as well as soothing Elemis toiletries. Guests can choose to add on a selection of bath experiences and in-room fragrances such as jasmin essential oil for an Oriental night experience or lavender for a soothing nights’ sleep, as well as a pillow and flower menu should they wish.

Homeslice offers ten different pizzas a day, and balances classics such as the Margherita and the Salami, Rocket and Parmesan pizza which are also available by the slice, to eat in or to go, with more seasonally changing toppings including Pumpkin, Broccoli, Pecorino & Crispy Onions; Chorizo, Corn and Coriander; and their take on a Quattro Formaggi; Provisions’ Four Cheese, spicy Jalapeño Salsa & Rye Crumb - delicious! The simple yet efficient style to dining also translates over to the drinks list. Homeslice founder’s and brothers Mark and Alan Wogan and Ry Jessup - who started Homeslice in 2011 serving pizzas from a mobile wood-fired oven at various events, markets and festivals - have put together a fantastic drink offering which includes Homepour Wines - well priced natural wine from a Spanish vineyard; a thoughtful cocktail list; ethical sodas from Karma Cola; and Homebrew, their own beer made in partnership with Camden Brewery. Mark has also created Homeshots, shots that provide a happy ending - sip on or down in one Strawberry & Cream, Lemon Sherbet or Werther’s Original. Located on James Street, just a stone’s throw from Selfridges, the site is a welcome addition to the area. Influenced by the classic 1950’s London caff, diners can enjoy elegant mid-century touches and pastel-coloured Formica tables paired with solid hand-crafted walnut seating. The large, central pizza oven was hand designed for Homeslice by Valoriani and the restaurant is super cosy and welcoming making it the perfect location for catchups with friends or a casual date. For those looking forward to the warmer months, there will be outdoor seating for 20 when the weather changes for the better. Bocconcino Located in the heart of Mayfair on bustling Berkeley Street, Bocconcino serves up classic and modern Italian dishes in contemporary surrounds. Headed up by Executive Chef Marco Corsica, formerly of Daphne’s, Cecconi’s and Sartoria, Bocconcino opened in 2014 and showcases seasonal Italian ingredients recreating the authentic flavours of the vibrant country. Having grown up in a family of great cooks and trained as a chef in Naples, Marco has carefully crafted a varied menu of classic yet contemporary dishes that range from antipasti to primi, all the way through to secondi and sumptuous desserts. Highlights from the antipasti section include scallops served with a cauliflower puree and bottarga; Parma ham with deep fried cheese pastries; and fresh Buffalo mozzrella served with basil, pesto, and baby plum tomato. Moving on to primi piatti where homemade pasta and risotto steal the show. Think homemade tagliatelle with slow cooked veal ragu; Homemade ravioli with courgette and ricotta; and Linguine with Scottish lobster and cherry tomato.

There is also a fantastic array of pizza options and the Pizza Bocconcino with Stracchino, mozzarella, fresh tomatoes and Parma ham is not one to be missed. Fresh salads, ideal if you want something a little lighter, or numerous meat and fish options such as Tomahawk steak with broccoli and chips for two; Rack of lamb with mash potato and artichoke; and Tuna fillet with sweet peppers and black olives are all available. If anything, the large menu is so tempting you’ll struggle to settle on one, a true Italian feasting menu in every sense! To complete the ultimate Italian feast at Bocconcino - and believe us – you must make room! - Guests can indulge in traditional desserts including Tiramisu and Torta al Cioccolato. With an extensive wine list to match offering a great selection of Italian wines as you would expect, the beautiful setting of the restaurant makes for a wonderful atmosphere whatever the occasion. Rustic yet contemporary with light colours, exposed brick, wine displays and lavish lighting, the restaurant is charming as well as stylish maintaining an upmarket feel throughout that’s well fitting for its location and quality of food.

CHAMPAGNE

The Engine Behind The World’s Finest Wine: The Rise Of Women In Champagne In light of International Women’s Day on March 8, Francoise Peretti, Director of the Champagne Bureau, examines the female trailblazers that have shaped the success of this fabled wine.

What would you do if you couldn’t own a bank account? In the run up to International Women’s Day in the year 2019, it seems an implausible problem here in the UK. But this was an issue that women faced in 19th century France and the overarching reason that prevented them from owning or running a business. After all, without access to money, how can one have autonomy or, moreover, pay staff? At that time, if you were unmarried, you were legally your father’s ward and if you were married, you were reliant on your husband for financial support… A scary thought. In 1805, at the age of just 27, a young woman suddenly became a widow when her husband died from typhoid following the Champagne harvest. With his untimely death, she inherited his company, which was involved in banking, wool trading, and champagne production. Through the grief laden loophole of widowhood, she had an independent social status, which uniquely gave her the capacity to become CEO. From a well-connected and wealthy family herself (her father was the mayor of Reims appointed by Napoleon), in a groundbreaking move she defied male opposition to keep control of business. In the years that followed, under her direction the company streamlined to the focus solely on champagne and flourished from a small house into a global empire. Her name was Barbe-Nicole Clicquot. Otherwise

known as Veuve (‘widow’) Clicquot. Due to the lack of antibiotics and the two major World Wars that played out in North Eastern France, the loss of a husband was not uncommon. Some of the most famous champagne houses – Pommery, Bollinger and Veuve Fourny to name but a few – were built by widows. The sparkling reputation of champagne has indisputably been shaped by these strong women, who were trailblazers not only within their industry, but in business globally. The mystique and success that surrounded their distinctive status, even prompted many houses to add the word ‘veuve’ ahead of their name in an attempt to capture some of the magic. These women were some of the first female entrepreneurs in France and possibly even Europe. However, as is the way with being the ‘first’ in anything, they were very much the exception to the rule. There is an army of anonymous women that have contributed through their work in the vineyards and houses, but it is only now we are witnessing true representation across influential jobs across in the industry - from cellar masters to CEOs. There are now three organisations specifically dedicated solely for the support and promotion of women in the region and figures have been release that today, 60% of the people studying winemaking in Champagne are female. We can’t wait to see what the future holds.

Ferrari GTC4Lusso T

'T' is for Thoroughbred A select few might argue that the use of a turbocharger in a Ferrari somehow reduces it's authenticity and in some way transforms it into somthing other than a true Ferrari. However, these people couldn't be further from the truth. Cont. on page 64.

AUDI A6

Suave Sophistication Taking the spectacular A8 with its technological prowess and surprisingly sleek style and implementing it into the latest iteration of its smaller A6 counterpart can only mean good things for the executive saloon. The German marque have worked tirelessly over recent years to create a brand now renowned for their style and design, but it's much easier to get recognised with an R8 than it is a saloon, so what makes the new A6 so exciting? Whether you're in search of your next business executive or are looking for a family saloon that offers that little extra space you need or desire, then the A6 will be more than happy to accommodate. From the business perspective, you no longer have to worry yourself with that drab, clumsy and often cheap feeling interior that many cars aimed at the company car market have endured for so many years, and you don't need to worry about being left behind when it comes to technology either. This car is packed to the sharp roofline with technology, from safety features to driving aids and an intuitive interface that could likely take on Siri in the ring and come out on top. A simple voice gesture such as 'I'm hot' can set the wheels in motion for your car to autonomously

adjust the climate control settings to a more suitable temperature. Furthermore, the smart system is capable of learning and adapting to your needs, initiating certain system functions when you get in the car or suggesting alternatives to known routes if there is traffic. Executive saloon no longer cuts it as a reference to this car, it has gone far beyond the realms of a comfortable motorway cruiser and has become something else entirely. Yes, the comfort is there in abundance, but, this is also very much a drivers car - especially when opting for the 50 TDI Quattro version. Boasting a zero to sixty-two time of a swift 5.5 seconds and governed top speed of 155mph, you won't be left wanting much more from this 'executive saloon'. It seems to have the company car benefits sorted too, with Audi claiming a whopping 50.4 mpg combined fuel consumption figure and just 146 g/km COâ‚‚ emissions, making for a more than worthy company cruiser. This should not however be restricted to company use as it offers so much more for both driver and passengers to enjoy. The interior is a welcoming, sleek, modern space adorned with luxurious materials and a fine finish, while the exterior boasts even more of that incredible technology from the A8 such as the optional HD audi.co.uk

YOUR DRIVE Matrix LED headlights that deliver one of the clearest and most adaptable views on the road. Adjusting to road situations and other road users, these lights offer style, substance and safety all in one. Safety, as with most modern cars has become paramount, and few are better prepared to deliver in the department than Audi. Not only does the cars construction lend itself to providing a safe space for all, but the technology under the bonnet is so advanced that there will be few opportunities for the cars physical capabilities to be brought in to question. The A6 features an extensive array of assistance systems supported by the central driver assistance controller. This continuously calculates a detailed model of the environment from a fusion of sensor data which can include up to five radar sensors, five cameras, twelve ultrasonic sensors as well as a laser scanner depending on the options you select. What this means for you as a driver or passenger, is a car that is able to recognise and respond to situations that you might not even be aware of during the day or at night. Smart and stylish, this is an executive you not only won't mind being seen in, but will enjoy being in. Perfect for the daily commute and equally as comfortable as a weekend cruiser, this cars ability to adapt to any situation is what makes it such an exciting option in the market. Add the impressive quattro system and you have a year-round car that will take you anywhere in style and incredible comfort - unless you want to shift the drive select into dynamic and have some fun. Audi have brought a new age to the executive saloon market not least in the design department, and it is one that is very exciting

Pininfarina Ferrari 355 GTB F1

Arguably one of Ferrari’s most beautiful examples from the ‘modern’ era, the stunning F355, designed by iconic Italian coachbuilders Pininfarina is the ultimate new-age classic. The F355 Berlinetta began production in 1994 and hit the roads in ‘95, swiftly followed by the Spider and GTS (targa) versions. Initially, the car was solely available with a 6-speed manual transmission, however, in ‘97, the Berlinetta became the first-ever road car to be equipped with the innovative F1-style gearbox management system. Derived directly from Formula 1 - where it made its debut in 1989 winning the Brazilian Grand Prix - the electro-hydraulic system is operated by paddles behind the steering wheel using the F355’s conventional 6-speed manual gearbox. Now a mainstay in most performance cars, this new transmission guaranteed faster gear changes, with the additional advantage that

both of the driver’s hands could stay on the wheel at all times, improving the all-round driving experience. The 355’s name deviated from Ferrari’s usual formula - which incorporated the engine size followed by the number of cylinders as in its predecessor the 348 - by indicating the engine capacity followed by the number of valves per cylinder. This was to illustrate the engine developments delivered in the car, despite just a 0.1l increase in engine size, the new 5-valve cylinder head increased power dramatically over the outgoing model. This 1998 left-hand drive version is beautifully presented in the iconic Rosso ‘Ferrari Red’ coachwork with nero leather interior and is in fantastic order. Showing just 15k miles with a good service history, this is a car that is not to be missed. 1998 Ferrari 355 GTB F1 £POA

FERRARI GTC4LUSSO T

Turbocharged Country Cruiser Many will remember the spectacular F40 - arguably one of the best Ferrari’s ever made - from the late 80’s and those who don’t will certainly know of it. Why the interest? What many might not realise is that the F40 sported a 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged V8 and was the last model to receive personal approval from Enzo Ferrari. There can therefore surely be nothing more Ferrari than the approval of a turbocharged engine by the man behind the name? Fortunately, the necessity and interest in improving efficiency across the automotive industry has ensured Ferrari’s return to the realms of turbocharging. Starting with the launch of the California T four years ago - which of course caused gasps of disbelief amongst the naturally aspirated purists - the marque have gone on to develop a number of cars since. One such car to receive the induction boost is the GTC4Lusso T, successor to the impressive FF which brought with it the stunning shooting-brake design.

Taking many of its design cues from its predecessor, the GTC4Lusso T boasts a more aggressive aesthetic with sharper lines and enhanced aerodynamics. However, the biggest changes come in the powertrain and drive departments. Moving from the naturally aspirated 6.3-litre V12 engine found in the GTC4Lusso to a much more reserved 3.9-litre twin-turbocharged V8, the GTC4Lusso T also boasts a return to rear-wheel drive - something that the FF could never offer. Despite the removal of the four-wheel drive system, the ‘T’ still retains the four-wheel steering system found on its V12 counterpart and is still surprisingly capable in all weather conditions. There will always be those in search of the next V12 on offer, but with stricter regulations and a shift in market demand, it is likely we will be seeing more and more iterations of this impressive turbocharged option. ferrari.com

YOUR DRIVE

What the V8 option offers over the considerably larger V12 far outweighs any possible negatives you might be able to find. Despite the dramatic volume difference between the engines, the performance variations are not so vast. A reduction in power by 80 hp is counteracted by the impressive torque figures afforded by the twin-turbochargers. 760 Nm of torque is available from just 3,000 rpm as opposed to 697 Nm at almost 6,000 rpm in the 6.3-litre variant. But what does this mean for its on the road credentials? Well a sprint off the line would be far too close to call between the V8 and V12 options as the difference from zero to sixty-two is a matter of one tenth of a second, accelerating in 3.5 and 3.4 seconds respectively. Admittedly, the V12 has a slightly higher top speed - just 9 mph faster at 208 mph - but the sacrifices you make for those extra nine miles per hour just aren’t worth it. Considering the undeniable functionality of this car, you are far more likely to drive it as an everyday vehicle than any other car in the current - or even previous - Ferrari range. That being said, when you glance at the efficiency figures of the two cars, it doesn’t take long to realise what a massive difference the introduction of the V8 twin-turbocharged engine makes. The CO₂ emissions alone are enough, with an impressive 50 g/km reduction to 265 g/km while the consumption figure provides a benefit of almost four miles per gallon on a combined cycle with a figure of 22 mpg - something you would not expect a Ferrari to achieve and certainly not when you factor in the negligible performance differences. Introducing a turbocharged option into what was already the most user-friendly of all the Ferrari’s has created possibly the best all-round car the iconic Italian marque has ever produced. Never before have all of these elements been put together in the same place. Yes, there have been turbocharged Ferrari’s before and yes, the FF boasted the same four-person comfort that the GTC4Lusso T delivers and yes, there have been and are many other cars on offer from the brand that will out-perform this, but none - past or present - can boast such a comprehensive offering of all-round usability and performance.

FERRARI GTC4LUSSO T

Striking in appearance, the shooting-brake design is not just an aesthetics gimic dreamt up by the design team, there is a genuine consideration of function in its form. The sweeping roofline continues the athletic appearance necessary for the brand - a Ferrari estate is not and should never be on the table - but also manages to subtly accommodate for the spacious rear seats and boot which provide ample room for a weekend away with three of your most worthy friends. The incredibly low profile that the car possesses again lends itself to the renowned sportiness of the marque and creates the illusion of a 2+2 coupé, which this car is most certainly not. Six foot is not an issue for rear passengers in the GTC4Lusso T, it is more than equipped to handle such height thanks to the bucket seats which act in much the same way that you expect the seats in any sports car, recessed sufficiently to fit comfortably within the sleek profile of the car whilst maintaining an acceptable degree of space for passengers unlike most ‘2+2’ coupés which simply offer up a space for luggage and claim room for two more people. Everything about this car has been designed to preserve the Ferrari values but in such a way that it is also able to be a far more functional vehicle than you might expect. The interior is no exception, with a stunning cabin design focused on the driver. An intricate steering wheel design provides access to everything the driver might need whilst meandering

through the countryside with everything else in easy reach on the centre console. The intuitive infotainment system is able to adjust everything from the climate control to the car’s drive settings and with the introduction of a unique additional screen on the passenger side, there is now even more functionality that your passenger can enjoy. The slim secondary touchscreen is discretely set into the dash in front of the passenger seat and provides them with the option to adjust music settings, observe current performance figures - speed etc. - as well as add a stop off or point of interest to your journey on the sat nav as to not affect the main screen or detract attention of the driver whilst driving. This is a world first and something only Ferrari currently offers, giving you something a little extra to boast about in the pub. Despite the strong focus on performance, the GTC4Lusso T doesn’t compromise on comfort. Plush leather seats continue from front to rear while adjustable ride settings allow you to soften the experience for you and your passengers when cruising across country. That being said, comfort has also been considered when you are using the cars more energetic drive settings. Every passenger has the benefit of a bucket seat to ensure there is sufficient support when you show off just how good this car is at cornering regardless of the rear-wheel drive setup.

YOUR DRIVE

You will pay a premium for this car, it is a Ferrari after all, however you might be surprised by what you receive in exchange for that premium. Register your new car - or in fact any Ferrari you might own, new or old - for free and you will be covered by the With You roadside assistance service that will recover you anywhere in Europe and ensure you get home safely, covering expenses for hotels and travel should you require. Questions about the cost of maintenance will often be at the front of your mind, but you don’t need to worry where Ferrari is concerned. Their genuine maintenance programme provides 7 years of standard maintenance at no extra cost and with no mileage restrictions which means if you reach the service intervals sooner than the annual suggestion, you will still be covered. What’s more, your new car will come with a 4-year warranty as standard that can now be extended up to 15 years for main mechanical compnents including the engine, gearbox, PTU, suspension and steering with Power15 that can also be transferred to subsequent owners should you decide to sell before the end of the warranty. This not only provides full peace of mind, but ensures that you are in the best position should you wish to sell your vehicle in the future. This is a truly outstanding car that brings the worlds of comfort, functionality, efficiency and performance together in one stunning piece of engineering that is more than worthy of the name and badge.

Buying Before The Bounce with Jonathan Hewlett, Head of Savills London Residential Buyers in search of London’s rarest trophy homes are providing a striking counterpoint to the mood music of Brexit. In 2018 there was a surge in the number of sales worth more than £15 million - up 43 per cent on 2017. And boosted by this activity at the very top end of the market, overall sales of prime London homes worth more than £5 million totalled nearly £4 billion, up 10 per cent on the previous year. Clearly demand in central London has very different drivers from the capital’s broader, more domestic prime markets. The sums buyers are prepared to pay for the city’s finest addresses - both heritage and new - underline their ultimate and enduring appeal. The last few weeks of 2018 saw some very big ticket deals - not a flood of activity, granted, rather canny international interest taking advantage of what were perceived as great opportunities. Our researchers have looked at the numbers - prime central London values are now down 19.4 per cent from their peak in June 2014 and, even accounting for the increase in stamp duty which triggered the falls in the first place, this signals significant savings. Historically, that’s a cue for overseas buyers to come knocking. Add the depreciation of sterling to the mix and London looks even more appealing. We have seen a renewed appetite from US dollar buyers, primarily those with a real need for accommodation in London, and it’s not hard to see why. Back in the summer of 2014 a £5 million home would have cost

more than $9 million, including stamp duty. At the end of 2018, the price tag was just over $5.8 million. Even for a sterling buyer there’s now a saving of some £800,000 to be had. History tells us that when London bounces it can take us by surprise. We don’t expect that until Brexit is behind us, but assuming a deal is struck with the EU, we do expect to look back and reflect that early 2019 was pretty close to the bottom of the market. W1W 7LS

Here in our E14 office, we're not sure if we can remember another time when there were so many opportunities out there in our property market. The last 12 months have been one heck of a time working hard with sellers to put a smile on their face, and we've done this by continuously keeping on top of all the latest movements in the market. A key part of our approach is how we complement our unrivalled knowledge of local opportunities with a firm grasp of market movements. We do this by regularly looking at the various property-related statistics that are available to us. The most important source is the Land Registry, which records all home sales and tells us what's happening to sales rates and price levels.

The chart above illustrates a very good reason to be happy. Long-term house price growth in the area has been strong, with the average annual rate of growth since 2000 sitting at an admirable 15.2 per cent. The broad base of the market and the solid fundamentals underpinning it mean we expect this to continue in the medium and long term. On the whole, the thing we're noticing most is how much sanity there is in the market at the moment. Because mortgage lending is a lot more sensible since the credit crunch, price froth hasn't built up, which is good news because it lessens the chance of a crash. We've got so much more to say, so why don’t you pop into our office for more info? Spencer Fortag

This chart shows how the price of flats and houses in the local area have moved over the last ten years. Looking at the change in prices over the longer term avoids some of the volatility that would be seen if we were looking at changes in the short term.

The profile of tenure The mix of tenure of properties is a substantial yardstick of the attributes of homes in a local market. One of the best parts of the planning system in the UK is that social housing is heavily mixed in with the private stock, so we don't get large geographical divides between people as is the case in urban France.
