Secret Rivers

Now - 27 October | Museum of London Docklands The rivers of London, their use and abuse and the inspiration they have provided over the centuries is the focus of a major exhibition at the Museum of London Docklands. Secret Rivers draws from the archaeological collections of the Museum of London and recent excavations to uncover the forgotten secrets of London’s rivers, streams and brooks, revealing clues about how the rivers were used through millennia of human habitation. The exhibition, which runs until October, also features paintings and prints that record how these waterways have changed over the centuries and includes contemporary art that urges visitors to consider their relationship with the water that flows around us and beneath our feet. Stories of the Thames and other rivers still flowing through the city are uncovered, along with the histories of the ‘lost rivers’ now buried beneath the streets and incorporated into the city’s sewer system. The exhibition uses the Effra, Fleet, Neckinger, Tyburn, Walbrook and Westbourne to explore themes of industry, development, effluence, manipulation, activism and sacred association, as well as looking at restoration on the Lea and Wandle. Tom Ardill, Curator of Paintings, Prints and Drawings at the Museum of London, said: “London’s rivers have shaped the city and its people in so many surprising ways. The diverse range of art on display in the exhibition will reveal how important these rivers have been throughout our history, and highlight the traces they have left behind.” The museum is open daily 10am - 6pm and is free to all, and you can explore the Museum of London Docklands with collections online - home to 90,000 objects with more added regularly. museumoflondon.org.uk

Launch Limited-Edition Superocean

Breitling have launched their Superocean Heritage Ocean Conservancy Limited Edition watch in Bali with the support of its high-profile Surfers Squad members Kelly Slater, Sally Fitzgibbons, and Stephanie Gilmore. Working with the conservation group Ocean Conservancy, Breitling organised a beach cleanup to celebrate the launch of the chronograph, which is limited to 1000 pieces. 100 Breitling guests along with hundreds of volunteers from Bali and the surrounding region joined forces for the cleanup effort which resulted in hundreds of kilograms of rubbish and plastic being removed from the beach. Kelly Slater, arguably the most successful surfer of all time, said: “I always say - and I believe that I can speak on behalf of the entire Surfers Squad - that beaches are, in effect, our offices. What we have seen here and on beaches and in oceans around the world is shocking, and I would like to thank Breitling and Ocean Conservancy for their shared fight against plastic pollution. Everyone can contribute to a cleaner environment - for ourselves and for future generations.” The Superocean Heritage Ocean Conservancy Limited Edition is distinguished by a caseback engraved with the Ocean Conservancy logo

breitling.com

and the limited edition “1 OF 1000”. The chronograph, which is powered by a Breitling Caliber 13 mechanical movement, features an ultra-hard scratch and shock-resistant unidirectional rotating bezel with a luminescent central dot at 12 o’clock, a particularly useful feature for divers. This dot, as well as the minute and hour hands, are coated with Super-LumiNova® and emit a blue light instead of the standard green. This colour variation complements the design of the watch, whose silver-colored dial is enhanced by a blue “Superocean” inscription. There are also blue accents and a blue central second hand as well as tone-on-tone subdials with blue or nickel-plated accents. The 44-millimeter stainless-steel chronometer is presented with a pair of NATO straps made of ECONYL® yarn, an innovative material repurposed from nylon waste, one source of which is fishing nets from oceans around the world. The straps are extremely durable, and the ECONYL® yarn material can itself be recycled indefinitely. The Superocean Heritage Ocean Conservancy Limited Edition timepiece is part of one of watchmaking’s greatest legacies, but it is even more than that: it is a beautifully timed call to action, reminding each of us that we can all play an important role in efforts to maintain healthy oceans and clean beaches. A portion of the sales of the watch will be donated to Ocean Conservancy and its global fight against ocean pollution.

Ceramic Face For Fifty Fathoms Blancpain is reinterpreting its Fifty Fathoms, the iconic diver’s watch that has inspired the entire genre since its launch in 1953. The 2019 edition retains the sporty and distinguished character of its peers, to which it adds a touch of chic and high-tech with a red gold case and a ceramic dial. The Fifty Fathoms is one of Blancpain’s inescapable models. Its roots in history are such that the Manufacture makes it a point of honour to continue developing it in such a way as to satisfy every expectation of diving and water sports enthusiasts. Now, Blancpain has opted to introduce a stylish version by opting for a precious case in satin-brushed red gold. For the first time in the collection, the dial of this new product is attired in blue ceramic. Through this unique combination of materials and colours, Blancpain achieves a bold double alliance. Already used by Blancpain in the creation of bezels for its Bathyscaphe models, technical ceramics offer a multitude of advantages: Their hardness - six times greater than that of steel - endows them with exceptional qualities, including remarkable stability and longevity. Although particularly complex to produce and machine, this material has been chosen by Blancpain because of the chromatic depth is serves to achieve. The new Fifty Fathoms Automatic is thus adorned with a cobaltlike shimmer featuring a pleasing contrast between the sunburst dial centre and the matt chapter ring. The DNA

of the collection remains identifiable at first glance: numerals, hourmarkers and hands coated with luminescent material, a slightly curved scratchproof sapphire crystal and a ratcheted unidirectional rotating bezel recall the origins of this watch. Dictated by a long experience of diving, these decisive choices are the guarantee of perfect visibility in all circumstances. Featuring a 45 mm diameter case and water-resistant to 300 metres, the new Fifty Fathoms Automatic beats to the rhythm of the 1315 movement. Stemming from a lengthy quest for precision and performance, it has been specially designed for sports watches. Blancpain has equipped it in this instance with a very dense red gold oscillating weight ensuring high winding efficiency for an optimal fiveday power reserve when the watch is fully wound. This rotor is cut out as a nod to the history of the Fifty Fathoms, since this geometry made it more supple at the time in order to protect the movement from potential impacts. Resolutely technical with its ceramic dial, as well as luxurious with its red gold case and the meticulous finishing of its movement, the new Fifty Fathoms Automatique is teamed with a blue calf leather strap, an additional detail evoking the inseparable link between Blancpain and the splendours of the sea bed. blancpain.com

Seastrong Diver 300

P-51 MUSTANG Automatic Bottisham Limited Edition

Alpina continue their diving history with a new edition of the Seastrong Diver 300 which remains faithful to the distinctive design that has made the model so recognizable over the years: an oversized case with strong lines, luminous indexes and a unidirectional bezel. Directly inspired from the brand’s heritage, the new Seastrong Diver 300 is in the perfect continuity of Alpina’s last century timepieces, namely the 1960s Seastrong “10”. At the time, the model was already capable of reaching depths of 200m/660ft and built to resist extreme conditions. The Seastrong Diver 300 presents a brand new 44m titanium or bronze PVD coated case, with either a grey, black or navy blue 60-minute unidirectional bezel and a dark brown, grey or navy blue dial which highly contrasts with the large luminous indexes and hands. The triangle at 12 o’clock is a nod to the brand’s legendary logo. Finally, the date window is featured at 3 o’clock and the screw-in crown offers an added security to sustain the timepiece’s high water-resistance while diving. The watch is delivered on a vintage leather strap with an additional rubber strap. It will be hard to find better value for money for such an emblematic watch. The design of the Alpina Seastrong Diver 300 provides optimal diving-time readability and stands out thanks to its features and functional beauty, turning it into a beautiful and masculine piece to be worn in and out of the water. alpinawatches.com

The P-51 Mustang, built by North American Aviation (NAA), was arguably one of the greatest fighters of World War II. The aerodynamically fluid lines of the Mustang’s new laminar flow wing decreased drag at higher speeds, maximizing performance. By 1943, the Mustang had been equipped with the famed Rolls Royce Merlin engine which could also be found in the Supermarine Spitfires and the Hawker Hurricanes manufactured in Britain. In doing so, the resulting aircraft proved to be one of the most successful fighters to enter the war, serving in many different arenas of combat including Europe, the Mediterranean and the Pacific. The watch that carries the AVI-8 brand into the realm of the P-51 is a suitably superb watch that imbibes aesthetic cues from the lines, details and form of the Mustang. A 43 mm case features a curved crown guard with detailing that references the engine exhaust of the aircraft. The case has fine brush finishing on the bezel with articulated lugs that flow fluidly into the bulbous yet streamlined case shape. A slightly convexed scratch resistant sapphire lens tops the bezel, creating an altogether aerodynamic profile in shape and form. The dial takes its cues from the cockpit and outer insignia of the Mustang. A multi-layered dial offers up cutaway arabic markers at the 3, 6, 9 and 0 hours with baton markers in-between. The effect is a clearly marked, no-nonsense dial layout that speaks to immediate legibility. Each hour and minute marker, along with the sword shaped hands, are generously lathered with high grade Swiss lume for low light visibility and clarity while the genuine leather strap that hugs the wrist is custom designed and offers subtly stitched details to continue the overall aesthetic harmony of the watch. For even greater versatility, each watch comes with an additional nylon and canvas, Velcro-release cuff-like strap. This option provides a snug, ever more comfortable and durable fit, ensuring that the P-51 Mustang Automatic Bottisham Edition is no mere souvenir but a truly robust piece of aviation inspired watchmaking. Each watch is uniquely numbered as part of a limited edition of 1490 pieces. The P-51 Mustang Automatic Bottisham Edition is available via the AVI-8 website in an early release sign up to be followed by wider distribution across select retail partners worldwide. avi-8.co.uk

A n A mer i c a n C l as s i c Hamilton celebrates its Chronograph A from 1968, presenting a model that draws on the classic good looks of its ancestor. This is a piece Hamilton fans and lovers of vintage-look watches will want to get their hands on. This is the new Intra-Matic Automatic Chronograph. The new 40mm stainless steel case is slightly larger than the 36mm original - the first hint that this is a watch updated to reflect modern tastes. With an authentic late 60s look and feel, the case is the perfect housing for the exclusive H-31 automatic chronograph movement. With extended 60-hour power reserve, the H-31 delivers Swiss precision and includes a practical date function another update for this piece. The highlight is, of course, the original panda dial that was so popular in the 60s and 70s. Even the font and Hamilton logo across the dial are the historic version from 1968. The white dial with black chronograph counters is a touch of monochrome magic from Hamilton, a much-loved design element that is true to the American spirit of the 50-year-old original Chronograph A. As for the carbon-paper blue and off-white matt dial version, the matt finishing gives a unique ‘flat’ effect that is authentically vintage in look and feel as well as deliberately muted for such a striking overall piece. Versatile, classic and designed for those who appreciate classic American style, the new Intra-Matic Auto Chrono also benefits from a soft touch leather strap for added comfort and wearability. The Hamilton Intra-Matic Auto Chrono is the true embodiment of a modern American Classic, combining the Swiss precision and American spirit only Hamilton can offer. B U C H E R E R Longines has been known for producing exceptional timepieces since 1832. Continuing in this tradition, the company went back to the archives of their rich history to find inspiration for their latest creation - the Longines Master Collection Chronograph in stainless steel. This new timepiece combines a classically elegant look that is reminiscent of the vintage chronograph models with refined blue details. Longines’ latest addition to the Bucherer Blue Editions is limited to 500 pieces and is designed for true watchmaking aficionados. The Bucherer-exclusive Longines Master Collection chronograph in stainless steel features a radiant blue sunraybrushed dial encircled by a silver chapter ring, as well as Arabic numerals and a brown calfskin strap, which combine to create a distinctly vintage yet very modern and stylish feel. For Longines and Bucherer, this recent cooperation was a natural continuation of their internationally successful partnership of more than a decade. Patrick Graf, Chief Commercial Officer at Bucherer, remembers: “When the Bucherer Blue Editions first launched in 2016, Longines was one of the chosen partners and embraced the idea of creating an exclusive model for our extraordinary collection. The first Longines Bucherer Blue Editions model - a great combination of the right product, the right design and the right partners - was very well received by press and consumers alike and turned out to be quite a success.” Launched in 2005, the Longines Master Collection is the epitome of the brand’s watchmaking history, incorporating its watchmaking expertise - amassed over the years through combined research into exacting technology - and timeless elegance. “Bucherer and Longines have been working together on their shared passion for watchmaking for years. Our excellent collaboration led to the

development of the first Longines Bucherer Blue Editions three years ago. This success inspired us to work together with Bucherer on this second edition, which will delight lovers of fine timepieces”, states Charles Villoz, Longines Vice President Sales. The Longines Master Collection Chronograph Bucherer Blue Editions combines exclusive features such as a blue and silver sunray-brushed dial with a brown calfskin strap, and is limited to 500 pieces. This special colour combination, in addition to the exclusive inscription on the transparent case back and the limited edition, makes this automatic timepiece rather unique and appealing for watch enthusiasts who are fond of tradition and prefer a classically elegant, restrained style. It is also sure to appeal to limited-edition lovers who will appreciate the fact that this model pays tribute to another iconic collection of superb watches with refined blue elements.

Blue Editions The Oris Divers Sixty-Five chronograph with its timeless stainlesssteel case is an exclusive addition to the Bucherer Blue Editions collection. Manufactured specifically for Bucherer in deep blue, the dial and the aluminium bezel harmonise perfectly with the stainless-steel elements and the brown, vintage-look leather strap with blue details. With an Oris Divers Sixty-Five chronograph, you will look stylish at all times, both under water and on land. The special features of this model, which Oris created exclusively for the collection, is aimed at delighting a new customer group of individualists and watch enthusiasts looking for something a little out of the ordinary. For Oris, the cooperation in the context of Bucherer Blue Editions is a completely natural partnership, firstly because Bucherer and Oris are independent, traditional companies with shared values such as the pursuit of innovation and integrity, and secondly, Oris has been campaigning for ocean conservation together with leading organisations for many years and therefore associates the colour blue primarily with water, the source of all life. “We were also excited about the elegant versatility of the colour blue, which lends a very stylish touch to our iconic diver’s watch,” says Rolf Studer, Co-CEO of Oris, before continuing: “Bucherer is a key partner for us and we have a number of things in common as companies. We both chart our own course, follow our own philosophies consistently and above all focus on our customers’ wishes.”

The robust, masculine timepiece combines the retro look of the original diver’s watch from the 1960s with the modern watch technology of the 21st century in a suitably skilful way. To do this, Oris dived into the depths of the company’s history and - with this reinterpretation of the now legendary Divers Sixty-Five chronograph - is presenting the first version of the timepiece made completely of stainless steel and featuring an anticorrosive stainless-steel case. The vintage-inspired bubble-curved surface of the model is made of scratch-resistant sapphire glass that comes with anti-reflective coating on the inside to reduce glare and increase legibility under water. Further unique features of the special edition are the titanium-filled hands and the symmetrical, bicompax arrangement of the indexes. Thanks to the “light old radium” Super LumiNova® inlays, the display stands out distinctively from the deep-blue dial and is easy to read even in the dark. Produced exclusively for Bucherer, this dial combined with the aluminium bezel in elegant deep blue lend the timepiece an unmistakeable appearance. The 43mm case is beautifully designed and perfectly proportioned, giving the watch a contemporary feel and subtly transporting the retro design into the present day. A glance at the reverse of the Oris Divers Sixty-Five chronograph reveals further unique details: the case back is adorned with individual engravings inspired by the Bucherer Blue Editions partnership. Oris maintains its deliberately playful use of the colour blue right down to the finest details. The brown vintage leather strap features blue stitching for the first time, for example. As a result, it harmonises perfectly with the dark blue stainless-steel elements of the bezel and stylishly rounds off the overall impression created by this special edition watch.

FUSEE TOURBILLON Since the dawn of precision timekeeping, watchmakers have sought to produce timepieces that offer unfaltering performance through the use of “constant force”. Zenith reinterprets the fusee & chain constant force mechanism in a modernistic style in the new DEFY Fusee Tourbillon. Housing the new El Primero 4805 SK calibre, a manual-winding movement that follows the DEFY code of avantgarde movement architecture with an open three-dimensional impact, the DEFY Fusee Tourbillon is available in two distinct editions - Carbon and Platinum. The spoke design of the bridges is amplified by their bicolor finish, where the top satin-finished surface is given a black treatment, while its polished sides are a lighter grey rhodium tone. The layout of the bridges offers a balanced layout of the various functions and complications. On the top half of the movement,

you can admire the uniquely conceived fusee and chain constant force mechanism. The chain, which consists of 575 individually hand-assembled components, features a bold blued treatment: a first for a wristwatch fusee and chain system. On the opposite end at 6 o’clock, a tourbillon cage with an entirely new construction featuring an off-centered balance wheel makes a full rotation every 60 seconds. Like the chain, the tourbillon cage is embellished with a striking blue colour, reinforcing the visual effect of the DEFY Fusee Tourbillon’s unique moving parts. Positioned at the edge of the dial between 4 and 5 o’clock, a red-tipped hand indicates the power reserve, a handy feature when manually winding the DEFY Fusee Tourbillon with its 50-hour power reserve. While the first version features a light yet robust carbon case, crown and buckle head, the second version of the DEFY Fusee Tourbillon, limited to just 10 pieces, is crafted in platinum. The exposed movement provides a vibrant, voluminous view, where the mix of materials and tones add visual depth, from the anthracite base plate of the movement to the blued chain and tourbillon cage topped with a set of geometrical bridges in two tones. The strap is made of a black rubber core coated with black alligator leather. While each version will appeal to a different kind of forwardthinking watch aficionado, one thing is certain: the DEFY Fusee Tourbillon solidifies Zenith’s position as a leader in building the future of watchmaking.

LISA FRANKLIN

Rejuvenate by Endospheres Facial

by Lisa Franklin

Conveniently located in Sloane Street, Lisa Franklin Clinic Privé is a true haven hidden in the middle of one of London’s most exclusive, luxury shopping destinations; Kensington & Chelsea and nearby Knightsbridge. Flooded with natural daylight this private sanctuary provides treatments that combine traditional techniques and state-of-the art technology with some of the most scientifically advanced products; both from Lisa’s own exclusive range and other carefully curated brands. With over twenty years-experience in the skincare and make-up business, Lisa is very highly regarded, and she has a complete knowledge of the skin and how it behaves. Lisa’s passion is developing clean, healthy skin as a foundation for long term skin health without the use of harsh chemicals and dermal fillers. She believes in nurturing the skin and focuses on developing clean, healthy skin as a foundation for long term skin health. Her aim is to trigger the bodies more natural functions and enhance this with unique functional and active ingredients. Her exclusive range of Lisa Franklin advanced skincare products possess formulations containing precision delivery systems, bio actives and essential nutrients to provide performance-enhanced skincare solutions for all skin types. Specially designed for healthy ageing, it is completely non-invasive. Constantly looking for new, innovative treatments, Lisa has just introduced a new facial called Rejuvenate by Endospheres; a natural, clinically proven painless therapy which ensures visible results from the first session. Performed in conjunction with Lisa’s Pro Effect system, her own range of skincare that has been inspired by her clients’ skin complaints caused from the effects of city life - pollution, toxicity, stress and technology, the treatment delivers truly amazing facial rejuvenation without the need for surgery. The whole line is also vegan, cruelty free and sustainable. Treatment starts with an in-depth consultation discussing current regimes and any concerns you may have. A device called EVA (short for Endo Ablative Vibration) is then used to administer a complete treatment in three stages using three different barrelshaped handpieces which work in synergy. Each device has a specific function and all three work to enhance natural beauty and carry out complete cell and muscle regeneration and is completely safe and highly effective. Harnessing the power of micro vibrations which is already used in the medical field for patients in need of lymphatic drainage, the first stage in the process is S.A.M - Sensorised Ablative Microvibration. This focuses on deep cleaning and exfoliating the skin and creates a superficial peeling effect which

therapeutically ablates the skin’s surface and relaxes wrinkles. The second stage is FACE. Using the latest development in the use of compressive microvibration techniques, this treatment uses an applicator that features soft gel spheres which effectively stimulate the deeper layers of the skin causing improved circulation activating cellular metabolism whilst deeply nourishing the skin tissue and stimulating skin renewal Lastly, stage three, V.E.D. - Vibro Electro Delivery uses transdermal electroporation to facilitate the transmission of Lisa Franklin active ingredients deep into the tissue using modulated electric square-wave pulses which temporarily disrupt the cell membranes of the skin allowing the entry of the products into the deeper layers of the skin. It improves microcirculation and tissue oxygenation and acts on cellular toning and eliminates toxins. Due to the initial preparations achieved by S.A.M and FACE, up to ninety per cent of active ingredients are transmitted deep into the skin tissue thereby achieving exceptionally deep nourishment which acts to improve the tonicity and elasticity of the dermis and also the radiance, nutrition and hydration of the skin. A complete treatment solution for the face which produces instant and visible results, Rejuvenation by Endospheres therapy facilitates the remodelling of skin tissue and epidermis texture caused by external, everyday factors such as pollution, the sun, smoke and stress. It clearly smooths facial wrinkles, tones muscles especially around the eyelids and illuminates the complexion by giving it a more uniform and natural appearance. It allows the slowing down of the alteration of the muscles and tissue and even improves the cutaneous structure of the face, reshaping more problematic areas such as the lips and raising of the cheekbones. Clinically proven, Rejuvenate by Endospheres is the next generation in facial treatments. Harnessing the power of Endospheres Therapy’s EVA with Lisa Franklin active ingredients, they work together on the different skin layers to exfoliate, lift and define the contours of the face whilst nourishing the skin to provide immediate results even after just one treatment. There is no doubt that this, results driven, revolutionary treatment creates dramatically visible results and leaves you with a more youthful, radiant and luminous complexion which makes you feel fabulous and truly impressed at the result. Fine lines and wrinkles are smoothed away leaving the skin much tighter and facial contours are far more even-toned. The benefits of this treatment can be enjoyed for days after and further enhanced by regular treatments using products from the Lisa Franklin Pro Effect range which are also available at the salon.

The Hamilton Princess HOTEL & BEACH CLUB

BERMUDA Paradise congers up different thoughts and ideas for different people, however, there is no denying there are certain parts of our planet that are unequivocally worthy of the title. This is one. Resting precariously in the middle of the Atlantic, the islands of Bermuda experience some of mother nature’s worst, yet this is precisely the reason for their astounding beauty. Comprised of over 180 separate islands, the territory of Bermuda - often referred to in the singular - is, despite resting on a historic volcanic platform, formed as a result of the wind carving and depositing sediment including that from the Sahara. All of these processes working in tandem have created an island landscape unlike any other. The cause of countless shipwrecks including the one which allowed the island’s colonisation - and provider of extensive white, and pink sandy beaches, Bermuda is a protected haven of colour and life. Bermuda’s position places it perfectly in the sub-tropical zone providing an enjoyable seasonal change from hot summers to mild winters thanks to the Gulf Stream and low latitude. As a result, Bermuda has never experienced (on record) a frost, freeze or snowfall which of course means there are few times of the

year that you can’t visit to enjoy the many beaches. Just watch out for the odd hurricane during the season which may venture over to the islands. Although it must be noted that there is rarely any severe impact as they tend to largely die out before reaching this island oasis. The island’s proximity to the US shapes much of Bermuda’s trade and tourist industry despite being the largest British Overseas Territory and the oldest British Colony and it’s clear to see the influences of both as you explore. Classic British telephone boxes appear in lush green colouring while electrical sockets and fire hydrants receive the American treatment. The economy has seen similar adaptations, moving from the Bermudian pound in 1970 to the Bermudian dollar which is pegged at par with the US dollar - making trade with their biggest market considerably more straightforward. As such, Bermuda is a melting pot of cultural and geographical influences whilst being wholeheartedly Bermudian in the process. Subtle hints from the UK, US and Caribbean combine in the most unique and exciting way to create a truly amazing destination.

At its heart sits Hamilton, Bermuda’s capital and economic epicentre - despite being smaller than the previous historic capital St. George’s - which plays host to one of Bermuda’s finest hotels, the Hamilton Princess Hotel and Beach Club. Located just a short walk from the centre of Hamilton with its many shops, bars and restaurants to enjoy, the hotel is positioned perfectly to explore the whole of Bermuda. The Royal Naval Dockyard in one direction and the historic city of St. George’s in the other with plenty to explore along the way. Despite all of that, you might find it hard tearing yourself away from this luxurious spot. Undergoing a complete transformation over recent years, the hotel has not only added luxurious suites to the mix, but

also constructed a full marina, additional infinity pool and new restaurant with almost 360 degree views over the turquoise waters and resort. On arrival you are immediately welcomed by friendly doormen and the pastel pink exterior of the hotel adorned with lush green vegetation. And the theme continues as you pass through the vast hotel lobby to the central courtyard. Here you will find a tropical oasis at the heart of the hotel with access to a large proportion of the hotel’s offerings including the marina. From here you can sample some of Bermuda’s best activities such as jet ski tours, boat tours, fishing excursions as well as snorkelling expeditions and whale watching to name just a few. If you would rather stay on dry land though, you could always indulge in some of the hotel’s more relaxing options such as the onsite spa to help you unwind and slip straight in to the relaxed vibe of not just the hotel, but Bermuda on the whole. Treatments range from facials to massages and everything in between to be enjoyed at your leisure any time during the day. Once you’ve finished being pampered, simply head outside to one of the two beautiful blue pools and soak up some Bermudian rays or take a dip in the refreshing water. Art lover? Then this is the ideal destination. Boasting a mind-blowing collection spanning medium from canvas to sculpture, the Hamilton Princess Hotel has one of the finest collections available to view freely as you wander through the hotel. Internationally renowned pieces sit alongside local works in an eclectic mix of pieces that will excite and intrigue professionals

and novices alike. At every turn you will find something new and often unlike anything you will have seen before making this a great place to simply venture around and explore without having to leave the hotel. What’s more, the collection is constantly being added to giving you something else to find whenever you return. If

you are interested in art, you can delve deeper into the subject by heading to Masterworks which is located just a short drive from the hotel where you will find an equally impressive collection of pieces along with ever changing exhibitions of works spanning ages, individuals, locations and events meaning you can enjoy something a little different every time you visit. The hotel’s location is one of its biggest selling points - along with its obvious level of quality - being so close to the centre of Hamilton not only means you can walk just a few steps down the road to do a little shopping or indulge in some food and drink, but also means you don’t have to go too far to find the ferry port which opens up a whole world of new exploration options. Jump aboard and find yourself at the sister Fairmont Southampton in no time, enjoying the beautiful surroundings as you go. Here you can visit some of the local sites or enjoy a meal at one of the best restaurants on the island, The Waterlot Inn. Historical doesn’t quite cut it with this incredible restaurant, established in 1670, this waterside eatery has shaped Bermuda’s steakhouse experience for almost 350 years and there’s no sign that’s going to change any time soon. Try the house Caesar salad prepared table side, it will change how you expect your salads to arrive forever. Food and drink is at the heart of the Bermudian way of life and a big part of that is rum and fish. Another is a combination of the two, rum cake. Located at the Royal Naval Dockyard, the Bermuda Rum Cake Factory is home to finest selection of rum cakes you will ever see in your life, just make sure you don’t try too much of it if you’re riding or driving there! If you’re happy with simply enjoying the rum without the cake, then there’s only one option. Bermuda’s Swizzle Inn which has two locations on the island is home to the original Rum Swizzle, a drink sure to get you merry without too much trouble. Served in small, delicate glasses - to ensure you don’t drink too much too quickly - this fruity

concoction is a disguised drink with a serious punch and the reason for their slogan - Swizzle Inn, Swagger Out. It’s recommended you don’t have too many glasses if you hope to achieve anything else that day, and the fact that you have to venture away from the hotel to do it means that you will probably only indulge the once before returning to the luxury haven of the Hamilton Princess. There is an option to leave the hotel without really ‘leaving the hotel’ thanks to the stunning Princess Beach Club. Reached by a cool pink and white complimentary Jitney shuttle service which runs throughout the day - for hotel guests only - you can leave the marina-side hotel for a much sandier destination. Hidden in the peaceful Sinky Bay, a private cove on the stunning South Beach, this is the perfect place to enjoy island life. While away the day in the sun with cocktails on hand and a view to rival any. Set up on one of the sun loungers or opt for a secluded cabana to truly indulge. The perfect way to enjoy the sun whilst having the option to escape it, all while having the idyllic view of this beautiful cove. Whilst there, you can enjoy paddle-boarding, kayaking and snorkeling to build up an appetite before returning to the soft sandy beach for a beach side feast. Once you’ve had your fill, simply relax some more or jump on the next Jitney service and be back at the hotel in 20 minutes. Keeping in line with Bermuda’s keen interest in cuisine, the Hamilton Princess Hotel has ensured there are plenty of options for guests to enjoy and indulge in local and international flavours. A total of three unique destinations are available - along with in-

room and poolside dining - which includes the on-site ‘pub’ Crown & Anchor serving up breakfast, lunch and dinner. This reimagined traditional island lounge brings a bright, fresh interior whilst honouring the traditions of its past. Salads, soups and sandwiches sit alongside pub classics on this inviting casual menu with a drinks list that should keep you busy for some time. For a touch of tropical elegance and entirely different dining experience, head to 1609 Restaurant which sits proudly above the marina boasting stunning uninterrupted harbour views and a menu to match. Opt for the enormous three-cheese nachos to start with the option to add chicken, shrimp or lobster and the fish tacos for main course, an island favourite and executed perfectly in this destination restaurant. The open-side construction allows you to enjoy the warm Bermuda breeze as you dine with open views across the water. The cocktail list is worth a visit too with bar seating available throughout the day. If you’re staying over the weekend, there is only one place to dine, as Marcus’, the third and final dining destination, offers up a new Sunday Brunch. Taking heed of the global trend, this magnificent restaurant brings some of its a la carte flavours to an indulgent buffet brunch with the added option of bottomless drinks - which is a must considering the bargain price for unlimited Veuve Clicquot at just $40 more. Start with a cold buffet serving up endless juicy prawns, delicious crispy kale Caesar salad and a plethora of cold cuts, fish and cheese before heading over to the hot counter to indulge in some very dangerous dishes such as the chicken and waffles. Yes, that’s correct, fried chicken and waffles. A delicious combination with some of the finest flavoured fried

Getting There:

Getting Around: At just 22 miles end to end, Bermuda is not the biggest of places. However, with so much to see across the eight main islands, you will likely be in search of an alternative transport method to get you across this island paradise with ease. Bermuda’s regulations mean there is no chance of finding a car hire company on the island from whom to rent a vehicle during your stay, but there is an option for those more comfortable on four wheels. Current Vehicles - based at The Hamilton Princess and sister property Fairmont Southampton - offer the distinctively unique and fun all-electric Renault Twizy. Available for daily rental from both locations, you can get behind the wheel of this two-seater ‘car’ and explore Bermuda like never before. Gone are the days of being restricted to the precarious hire of mopeds as you concentrate on survival whilst venturing through Bermuda’s winding lanes. Now you can sit back and enjoy the view from you open-sided, scissor-doored, bluetooth enabled Twizy. What’s more, the island’s ev charging infrastructure relative to the UK’s is beyond impressive already. With points dotted across the island, you can enjoy some of Bermuda’s best sights whilst your Twizy recharges. What’s more, you’ll get a 50+ mile range out of a full charge meaning you could potentially explore from one end to the other on a single charge - depending on your driving. The Twizy really is the only way to travel around this paradise island. It’s simplistic design makes it easy for anyone to use and the in-line seating arrangement means it sits at just four feet wide, perfect for the narrow roads and ideal to navigate to almost any and every part of Bermuda during your adventure. It’s open nature also enables you to make the most of everything Bermuda has to offer. Soak up the sights as you drive and breath in that fresh Bermudian air, all in the knowledge that you’re even helping to keep that air clean. Visit the website or contact Current Vehicles directly for more information and booking, but don’t leave it too late as these are, as you can imagine, in very high demand! info@currentvehicles.com • currentvehicles.com

at The Churchill Bar and Terrace Sanderson creates summer paradise with Veuve Clicquot Rosé The Long Bar at Sanderson hotel has thrown open the doors to its Courtyard Garden to welcome guests into a tropical summertime oasis, in partnership with Veuve Clicquot Rosé. Launched Friday 17 May, Long Bar has come alive with an abundance of tropical flowers, banana leaves and palm plants climbing up the onyx bar and tumbling from the floral ceiling. Parrots and butterflies are perched amongst the foliage, softly lit by an atmospheric pink glow. The lobby’s art installation, The Worm, has also undergone a tropical transformation, framed by a floral living wall adorned with tropical flora and fauna and boasting its own 3-D effect butterfly vinyl. Stepping outside into Sanderson’s secluded Courtyard Garden, guests are greeted by the hotel’s famed swinging chair, decked for summer with flowers, ferns, and yellow butterflies. Yellow and black cushions and blankets provide a comfortable outdoor setting for guests to settle in and enjoy a chilled glass of Veuve Clicquot Rosé paired with a selection of tropical bar snacks, including Seared Tuna with wasabi mayo and caviar and Scallop Ceviche with papaya salsa and yuzu.

The Churchill Bar & Terrace invites guests to kick back in a Cuban haven with the launch of its ‘Casa de Cuba’. Located in Hyatt Regency London - The Churchill, the new seasonal spring/summer terrace is inspired by Sir Winston Churchill’s travels to Cuba which first took place in 1895 to observe the Cuban Independence War. This trip also marked Churchill’s first ever international adventure outside of Europe, which soon became the first of many. As an ode to Churchill’s love of adventure, The Churchill Bar has transformed its awardwinning terrace into a vibrant Cuban sanctuary where guests can explore a brand new cocktail menu led by Head Bartender Daniele Bresciani and his team, as well as Cuban food specialties including a classic Cubanito sandwich, fried Plantain and Huevo Habanero. New drink highlights include ‘Baptism of Fire’ which pays homage to Churchill’s first experience with the Cuban military as he came under gun fire for the first time. The cocktail uses Zacapa 23-year-old rum combined with a banana & chilli shrub, guava and lime juice, port, cedar essence and angostura bitters. While the ‘New Cuban’ is an interpretation of the ‘Old Cuban’ cocktail from New York, which is a twist on the much loved Mojito by adding champagne into the mix. This variation from the team captures the Cuban summer spirit, replacing mint for the subtlety of thyme, and combining it with a delicate apricot jam to add texture and a tropical flavour to create a sparkling refreshment. This is topped with Churchill’s favourite champagne, Pol Roger. Casa de Cuba at The Churchill Bar and Terrace, Hyatt Regency London, 30 Portman Square 020 7299 2035 | bar.hrlondon@hyatt.com

REVIEW

VIVI Restaurant and Bar

With glamorous, instagram ready interiors featuring a wealth of millennial pink and pretty gold accents, VIVI Restaurant and Bar is the latest must-visit in the capital. Created by dining team rhubarb, who are also the creative team behind Sky Garden, VIVI Restaurant and Bar has opened its doors at Centre Point, bringing sixties back with stunning interiors, creative cocktails and tempting all-day menus. Divided into four unique dining zones: The Dining Room, The Gallery, the Liquid Lounge and The Bar; The Dining Room in particular serves up everything from breakfast through to brunch, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner, as well as pre/post- theatre meals. Head Chef Arnaud Delannay has created a nostalgic British menu full of modernised classics. Highlights from the seasonal menu include twice baked cheddar Souffle; Lobster Thermidor; Chicken Kiev and mash; and the classic Duck à l’orange. Other menu stand-outs include Madras Monkfish; Berkshire Pork Chop; and Truffled Mushroom Vol Au Vent. Sides are plentiful with an array of salads, Truffle Mac and Cheese; Garlic Mushrooms; Jersey Royal Potatoes with Parsley and Minted Peas. Those with a sweet tooth will enjoy famed classics such as the Neapolitan Sundae; Rhubarb and Custard; Apple and Plum Crumble; and Rum Baba. A selection of Neal’s Yard Cheeses are also available.

Wash it all down with one of the many wines on offer from the likes of France, Italy and South Africa. Or, if a cocktail is what you fancy then VIVI is the right place to come to. The standout central bar serves up a wide range of innovative serves with cheeky names such as The Weeping Guitar; Cheeky Mocha; and ‘60s Pineapple Ale. While the food is there to be enjoyed, the real draw of VIVI is the spectacular interior. Designed by Gordon Young Architects Ltd, the carefully restored space captures every essence of the era that saw one of London’s tallest skyscrapers built. A modern colourway is paired with art deco dog tooth patterning, with polished wooden panelling offset by original listed 1960s floor tiles along The Gallery and the Liquid Lounge. Soft gold finishes, optical art and upholstery in tones of rich teal blue and delicate blush pink bring texture and a pop of colour to the space. Celebrating the playfulness of the time, a focal point is a statement chandelier suspended over The Dining Room. Designed and hand built by Vibeke Fonnesberg Schmidt specifically for the space, the plexiglass chandelier - adorned with brass fittings - mimics the popular 60s children’s construction toy, ‘PlayPlax’, and is reminiscent of 1960s Italian design, French Art Nouveau and German Bauhaus modernism. Ideal for drinks with friends, and romantic dinners and business meals alike, VIVI is the perfect location whatever time of the day.

REVIEW Just a stone’s throw away from Fenchurch Street Station in the City of London, ZA is a new initiative from PizzaExpress. With a brand new interior, the former PizzaExpress location offers up all-day fare including PizzaExpress pizza by the slice and freshly prepared salads. Covering breakfast, lunch and dinner, the new menu means that you can enjoy your favourite slice of pizza on the go or in store. Breakfast offerings include the freshly baked Luna Flat bread filled with your pick of ham, spinach or egg, and fresh Hand Roasted Union coffee. Whereas the all-day menu, which is great for lunch on the go or a more leisurely dinner features the handily packed ZA slices of pizza fresh from the oven. The concept takes PizzaExpress back to its roots, when founder of PizzaExpress, Peter Boizot, started out selling by the slice at his original Wardour Street restaurant in 1965. Slice highlights include the Za-gherita, American Hot, Padana, Pollo ad Astra, La Reine or the Vegan Giardiniera. Other new hot items include freshly made soups and Pizza Wraps, made with PizzaExpress’ signature dough recipe and filled with popular toppings from the American Hot, Padana and Pollo ad Astra. That famed dough recipe comes into play elsewhere with a range of Piadinas; served cold, similar to a sandwich, with various fillings such as Tuna Nicoise or Artichoke and Olive. Also from the fridge, salads, such as Caprese and Freekeh, are served in half and full portion sizes. It wouldn’t be PizzaExpress without the iconic Dough Balls, available as you know and love them and also in new cheese flavour and SUPER variety; wholemeal, white and spelt. Evening guests will be pleased to know that ZA also offers a wine menu as well as Peroni beer and soon to come cocktails. ZA, 5 Fenchurch Place, London EC3M 4AJ | za.life

Think Blanc de Blancs and Rosé Champagne for a Truly Sparkling Summer

Francoise Peretti, Director of the Champagne Bureau UK, provides her top tips for entertaining in style this summer… A popping cork is undeniably one of the sounds of summer; along with the mowing of grass, collard doves and tennis balls being thwacked across courts - it is synonymous with people celebrating being alive. As we race into June, with Ascot and Wimbledon in our sights, it’s almost impossible not to crack open a bottle of champagne and embrace that wonderful feeling that life is starting all over again. Apart from the fact that champagne is chilled to a cool 8-10°C - that by default makes it the ultimate warm-weather respite - a bottle of golden bubbles brings a fabulous sense of joie de vivre to

any dinner or party one may be hosting. This month I’d like to talk to you about summer entertaining with champagne, specifically which styles to serve and crucially, how to serve them in style. First up, Chardonnay-based champagne is the ideal summer style. The freshness and liveliness is much appreciated around the pool, or alfresco when temperatures soar. High Chardonnay content champagne and Blanc de Blancs (100% Chardonnay) are ideal partners to light summer food, from poached salmon to cold white meat platters; from glorious vegetarian salads to cold lobster, Scottish langoustines or prawns.

COLUMN strawberries, raspberries and cherries. If you’re really looking to ramp up the drama for a special occasion, or dinner party with a lot of guests, I’d recommend buying and serving champagne in large bottles such as magnums (equivalent to 2 X75cl bottles) or Jeroboams (equivalent to 4 bottles). This is sure to be memorable, put people in the party mood and doesn’t cost too much more than the equivalent in single bottles. Champagne service etiquette is worth knowing as it makes your life easier and will ensure you’re not caught off guard by rogue guests arriving - *shudder* - early. Chilling a bottle of champagne takes a good 3-4 hours in your fridge, or 30 minutes in a bucket using a mix of water, ice and salt. The water is essential for conducting the temperature, so look for equal quantities between ice and water and ensure the bottle is mostly submerged. Moving on to the actual serving - opening a bottle of champagne is easy, but can seem intimidating, especially if you’re opting for one of the larger bottles like I suggested earlier. Think 4 steps: take foil off, untwist wire cage, keep your thumb firmly on the cork and twist the bottle (not the cork) anti-clockwise. If you follow this, it’s pretty failsafe. Another thing to consider is glassware around which there are many myths. Firstly, never chill them in the fridge, as this can dull the sparkle of the wine. On shape, opt for tulip-shaped glasses rather than narrow flutes, to enable the wine to breathe and aromas to develop. No matter how beautiful, avoid saucer-shaped ‘coupes’ as they allow the bubbles to dissipate quickly and you may end up with a glass of flat champagne - not the idea considering it takes between 15 months to 10years+ to create champagne effervescence! So there you have it, my top tips for entertaining with champagne this summer. And finally, never forget: always keep a bottle of Champagne in the fridge for special occasions. Because sometimes, the special occasion is that you’ve got a bottle of Champagne in the fridge…

Second up, rosé champagne is absolutely having its moment across the board, with the UK being the second biggest market in the world following only the US. Considering our comparative size, that’s pretty impressive. In 2018, rosé accounted for 10% of all champagne sold in the UK - that’s a whopping 2,600,000 bottles. Whether you are seeking a perfectly pink ‘instagrammable moment’, or you are simply looking to enjoy some ‘bro-sé’ with the boys, it is not only fun but also a great style to pair with food - especially cheese. Try serving it to guests with British goat or a ewe’s cheese like Berkswell, Innes Log, Ticklemore, or nuttier Comté and Parmesan. While you’re there, why not dress the platter with generous mounds of seasonal British fruits – think 020 7244 1930 | info@champagne.co.uk | champagne.fr

Oblix at The Shard Having just celebrated its 6th birthday, award-winning Oblix was the first restaurant to open in The Shard back in Spring 2013 and continues to pair sky-high standards with stunning views. Divided into two parts - Oblix West and Oblix East, the latter being a trendy lounge bar serving innovative cocktails and bottomless brunches on the weekend. Both spaces are cleverly designed with elegant interior finishes, making the most of the iconic views across London. Oblix West is a contemporary yet relaxed restaurant boasting views from St. Pauls right across the West End. The large and varied menu focuses on seasonal dishes and have been created, in conjunction with group owner and innovative chef-restaurateur Rainer Becker, by executive chef Marcus Eaves. Marcus gained his first Michelin star aged just 27 at L’Autre Pied in Marylebone and showcases his culinary flair at Oblix West by using the very best of British and European produce across the menu. Cooking on the spit roast, charcoal grill and wood-fired ovens, the menu features a variety of ingredients from nearby Borough Market. The lively market boasts a regular supply of seasonal produce and Marcus and his team make the most of the local offerings. From heritage breed British dry-aged beef to sustainably

sourced seafood, there’s something for everyone. Menu highlights include the mouth-watering truffle flatbread with pancetta and ricotta; seared beef, parsley pesto, baby artichokes and parmesan; soft shell crab; bbq black cod and coriander salsa; bone in rib eye for two; wagyu tenderloin; and seafood linguini with chilli, garlic and lemon. There are plenty of fresh sides too with a market bowl salad; tenderstem broccoli with preserved lemon and chilli; and new potatoes with citrus dressing and soft herbs. Knowledgeable and attentive without overcrowding you, the team at Oblix are there at your disposal. Be sure to make the most of the 110-cover restaurant’s sommeliers during your visit. Acting as guides to intriguing wines from around the world, the Oblix wine station is stocked with a handpicked list of bottles, including a large selection of wines by the glass, giving diners the chance to taste different varieties and vintages and create their own bespoke pairing. It’s also a fantastic opportunity to discover small producers, special vintages and unknown grape varieties. After dinner, and a very decandent dessert - we recommend the pecan nut & chocolate bar, crunchy bourbon ice cream - head across to Oblix East for even more views of the capital. On Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, the space hosts DJs and live bands playing everything from disco and afro beats, to jazz. Perfect for an after-dinner drink before heading off into the night.

Launched in 1950, the original Interceptor was produced until 1957 with a total of 88 cars across it’s three guises - saloon, convertible and sedanca - boasting a 4.0-litre straight-six engine and four-speed transmission from the Austin Sheerline, the Interceptor was recorded in 1952 reaching 95 mph and achieving a zero to sixty mile per hour time of 17.8 seconds. This example is documented as being owned by Sir Benjamin

Britten - believed to be from new - with very low ownership since. Presented in its original colour of black coachwork with burgundy leather interior, it also features the optional overdrive transmission. Restored 10 years ago with photographs to show works completed with new leather, soft top, chrome detailing amongst others and an extensive service file to match. It drives very well and can easily be taken on European trips as a fantastic grand tourer and has recently completed a trip to Le Mans. This incredibly rare opportunity to own an elegant open top aluminium bodied tourer owned by one of the most iconic British figures of the 20th century is one not to be missed.

RANGER RAPTOR

ranger

R O T P

RA

Tearing across desert, sand dunes, and rough terrain at speed sounds like an activity reserved for specially designed and built vehicles that are usually out of the reach of the regular car buyer... not anymore. Ford’s new Ranger Raptor brings with it a hint of America’s incredible F150 Raptor DNA paired with the spirit of Southern California’s Baja Rally and Ford Performance’s expert know how. The result, well, the pictures should give you a good idea. Packed with parts and knowledge more often seen on aftermarket machines - that have been specifically built for some off-road weekend fun - this is not a pickup for the faint hearted.

Certainly not if you’re going to use it for what it was designed for anyway. The second you lay your eyes on it, you instantly know that the Ranger Raptor means business. Exaggerated, well, everything makes for more than an aggressive looking beast, it makes for a monster truck-esk production vehicle that will rival anything else on the road for presence. Yes, those tires and suspension are a standard piece of kit on this truck, as is the 2.3mm thick steel bash plate proudly placed at the front. And if they don’t give you a good idea of what this truck is about, then the three setting 4-wheel drive system and a total of six terrain mode options should help. ford.co.uk

YOUR DRIVE Including the one titled Baja. A driving mode in its own right, the inspirational destination gets a spot firmly cemented in this trucks DNA - tuning the vehicles responses for high speed off-road performance in all of the three drive train options available while disabling the Electronic Stability Control for full control. A selectable four-wheel drive system provides rear-wheel drive along with both 4x4 high and 4x4 low range configurations to ensure travel through and across any terrain with the added benefit of an 850mm wading depth for any oddly large puddles you might happen across. This trucks most apparent difference however is its size. Bigger in every sense, the Ranger Raptor not only sits longer and wider than it's less endowed counterparts, but also boasts an increased height thanks to a 51mm boost in ground clearance as a result of spectacular all-terrain BF Goodrich wrapped wheels supported by an incredible suspension setup. Watts link coil spring rear suspension and FOX Racing long travel shocks with position sensitive damping provide a 30% increase in travel allowing you to take on otherwise irresponsible humps and bumps at considerable speed. Pair this with a specially reinforced heavy-duty chassis and you begin to paint a picture that is common ground in the extreme world of off-road rallying, not something you would associate with a production vehicle. A three degree increase in both approach and departure angles simply adds a final touch of versatility.

ford.co.uk

RANGER RAPTOR Behind every good sports car and every good off-roader, is a power unit ready to live up to its name. The new Raptor succeeds in part here. Despite being smaller in stature - a modest 2.0-litre block - the new engine is more efficient whilst delivering more power thanks to its bi-turbo setup than it 3.2-litre sister unit. 210 bhp and 500 Nm of torque from the EcoBlue unit should be more than enough for you to enjoy an exciting weekend off-roading or pulling a trailer or two. However, due to its size and weight, it can leave you a little wanting on the road. A 0-60mph time of 10.5 seconds and top speed of 106mph are nothing to write home about when talking about a 'performance' vehicle. A shame considering its American cousin - which manages 0-60mph in just over 6 seconds - but slightly more understandable following recent and undoubted future changes in UK regulations. Needless to say, there could be more to live up to the Raptor name. The Ranger Raptor does have its smooth, efficient and

responsive 10-speed automatic transmission taken from the F150 Raptor meaning you shouldn't have too many issues with it whether you throw your Ranger through the air, water or otherwise. You won't find many, if any, other vehicles that you can simply walk into a dealership and buy that will be able to deliver this level of off-road experience. Everything on this Ranger has been adapted or out-rightly changed with a focus on delivering a car with not just off-road ability, but the ability to drive off-road at speed, and that is the key. You can of course find yourself any number of off-road 4x4 vehicles that are more than competent at combating most situations you throw at them, however, you attempt to do any of those things with any sort of speed and you will quickly find yourself requiring the help of someone else to get your car to the garage. With the Ranger Raptor, you make a conscious decision to choose a utility vehicle that sacrifices its commercial vehicle status

ford.co.uk

YOUR DRIVE as a result of a reduction to its payload capabilities thanks to that impressive suspension - meaning no tax breaks - and do so on the understanding that this is an almost ÂŁ50,000 truck. That is probably the biggest influencing factor over whether or not to buy one, because once you get behind the wheel and really get to grips with what it is capable of, money will be the only decider. This is, as you would imagine, a functional vehicle, but Ford have managed to build it in such a way that you can actually drive in comfort on your way to the desert, or mountain, or snowdrift. Once you make it inside with the help of the durable, rugged treadplates - perfectly in-keeping with this trucks whole appeal - you can enjoy all the luxuries you would expect from any car leaving the Ford factory. Premium leather and suede bolstered seats have been specially designed for this car to ensure comfort and security whatever the terrain and almost every piece of technology you could expect on a modern car has been packed in as standard

for you too. Parking assist, connectivity and a useful 'Breadcrumb' feature to help guide you home whilst exploring uncharted territory. There is little to dislike with the Ranger Raptor's interior and exterior styling and even less to question when talking about its offroad-ability. Everything has been designed and crafted to deliver a fast off-roader, it's just a shame about that engine. An extra few horsepower would have made all the difference and turned what is an excellent off-road truck and average on-road vehicle into an allround monster on and off road that wouldn't have any questions surrounding its commercial vehicle status or price, you would just buy one and drive everywhere, over everything, in any and every weather. Once again, the US may have proved it's bigger and better, but our - still sizeable - UK version should be more than sufficient to quench the thirst of most potential buyers.

Standing out from the crowd to make property personal with Liza-Jane Kelly, Director of Residential Regional Management, Savills London I joined Savills last year having started my property career in Ireland in the early Nineties against the backdrop of the Gulf crisis. It was all hands to the pump back then and as an 18-year-old I pitched in on reception, on viewings and at the weekends, working what felt like round the clock but knowing I was very lucky to have a job. Tough times, brilliant experience, and a great opportunity to develop and grow in my chosen profession. Five years later, I moved to London and to cut a long story short ended up being part of a management team that successfully grew a small estate agency firm from five city offices to 18. I mortgaged my flat and lived off a credit card for three years, investing everything into the business which we eventually sold in 2012. When we started out the market was buoyant but then came the credit crunch of 2008 and I learned at first hand the lessons of running a lean operation during a recession. It reinforced my belief in the value of great customer service and of standing

out from the crowd. Now more than ever in this digital world, it’s all too easy to hide behind a computer screen. But property is personal and human contact essential. So I suppose you could say I’ve picked up a thing or two about the market over the years and was delighted to be given the opportunity to bring my experience to Savills, where I’ve spent the last nine months or so expanding our prime core service across the capital. What I love is the positivity and ‘can do’ attitude I see every day and the freedom to work knowing I’m surrounded by support, enthusiasm and expertise not just from residential colleagues, but from the one-stop-shop of national and international property consultancy that is Savills. And, while that makes it a great place to work, what it really means is the service we can offer our clients comes with that same level of problem solving, free thinking and experience. That’s valuable whenever anyone wants to buy or sell their home, but especially useful at times of uncertainty.

Essex based developer wins national award Beating off stiff competition, a local developer scooped first place in a prestigious awards ceremony on 26 April at The Marriott Hotel Grosvenor Square, London. Higgins Homes was awarded Best Private Developer Of The Year 2019 at the First Time Buyer Readers’ Awards, one of the most acclaimed in the industry. The Awards are an annual celebration of some of the many lengths that are gone to in order to help aspirational buyers on to the housing ladder. From housebuilders and housing associations to legal companies, these prestigious awards ensure the best in the business are recognised and rewarded for their hard work. Higgins Homes is a multi-award winning housebuilder and are especially proud of this recognition from first-time buyers. Assessed by a panel of professional judges, the shortlisted entries were then shown on the First Time buyer Readers’ Award website for the public to cast the final vote. “The challenges that first-time buyers face are extremely important to Higgins Homes, which makes winning this award hugely humbling,” says Jeremy Marcus, Sales & Marketing Director at Higgins Homes. “We strive to provide creative solutions to ensure that the first-time buyer doesn’t have to make too many compromises.” The Best Private Developer Of The Year category focused not only on the design and quality of the properties built, but also on all aspects of the developer’s performance. The judges praised Higgins Homes’ approach to design and commended the architectural teams who ensured that each development maximised space and embraced innovation and new technology. With no standard house or apartment type, the judges were impressed with how Higgins Homes’ approach each development to complement and enhance its location. The judges commented that this design-led approach to building including open-plan layouts, large windows to create light-filled rooms, as well as generous storage and private outside space, set Higgins Homes apart

from other developers. They remarked how the open space is complemented with a specification that is designed to be beautiful, functional and generous. “We were delighted that the judges and the readers acknowledge our design-led approach and the commitment to ensure that each home was built with its future owners in mind,” adds Jeremy Marcus. “With a range of buying schemes including Help to Buy and Part Exchange, we are doing all we can to make the buying process as straight forward as possible.” This was the second award win of the night for Higgins Homes, who also took home an award for the Best Architectural Design for The Reserve in Waltham Cross. What a year it’s been for the E14 property market so far. The amount of positive sentiment I've been picking up from buyers and sellers who visit the branch every day confirms that this part of the country is better insulated from the cold spell being experienced in some other parts of the UK market. It didn’t take long before I started to see why people have been so positive. Data from the Land Registry shows that prices rose by 16.8 per cent over the last 3 years and now sit 146.5 per cent higher than they did in 2000. For context, that means that the average E14 home has increased by £18,100 per year over that period.

But does this mean that the market has peaked? Not Year by a long shot. In fact, I think that the E14 property market has a lot of steam left in it. The reason is simple; every market is underpinned by supply and demand. Here the supply is made up of a very high-quality housing stock, with a manageable amount of new build. The demand side, which is essentially all the lovely people who want to live here, is diverse, motivated and growing. So I have lots of reasons to be confident that upward pressure on prices will continue and our market will go from strength-to-strength. If you’re thinking about making your next move in this area, make sure you give yourself the inside track, and the best way to do that is to use the help of a local market expert. Spencer Fortag

We've used a stacked bar chart to show the relative proportion of flats and houses selling in the last nine months in our area. Due to the profile of the housing stock in the area, there's nothing too surprising here, but it's interesting to see how the different types of properties contribute to total sales levels.

Property types are a handy measure of the shape of the market in a local area. For example, areas with lots of flats tend to be urban in character because there is huge pressure on land. A large number of detached homes means that the area is suburban and not very densely populated.
