Cataract Implants Seeing In Three Dimensions
By Jacqueline D. Griffiths, MD New View Eye Center
Approximately 20.5 million Americans age 40 and older have cataracts. The opportunity for freedom from reading glasses and bifocals was not available in intraocular lens implants. There are currently two of these advanced lenses that have become popular. Clareon PanOptix & Vivity by Alcon. They are known as “multifocal lenses” meaning they allow quality vision at near distance and intermediate zones through a series of focusing rings. Our lives have become more complex and our vision is oftentimes tested throughout an average day of work. We have to read materials at close range, look at a computer in the intermediate range and perform tasks such as driving, requiring good distance vision. During the course of a day we have to constantly refocus our eyes in order to see multiple distances. Those of us who are over 40 have noticed that our reading vision has changed for the worse. Many of us require reading glasses because we no longer have the functional ability to focus on near objects like we did when we were younger. The ability to change focus rapidly and focus on near objects is called accommodation and this process declines with age. In addition to this, the natural lens within our eyes starts to become cloudy with age. What Is a Cataract? Cataracts are, in fact, the clouding of the eye’s clear lens, like a window that is “fogged” with steam. When the lens becomes cloudy, light rays can not pass through it easily and vision becomes blurry. Cataracts are not a growth or a film over the eye.

Cataracts start out small and have little effect on vision at first, but they continue to grow slowly. As the cataract grows, so does the impact on vision. The most common signs of cataract development are: • Painless blurring of vision • Sensitivity to light and glare • Double vision in one eye • Poor night vision • Fading or yellowing of colors • Frequent changes in glasses or contact lens prescriptions Although cataracts usually develop as part of the aging process (more than half of all Americans develop cataracts by age 80), they can also result from: • Eye injuries • Certain diseases, such as diabetes • Genetic inheritance • Certain medications • Frequent, unprotected exposure to UV-A and UV-B rays What Is the Lens? The lens is the part of the eye that helps focus light on the retina. The retina is the eye’s light-sensitive layer that sends visual signals to the brain. In a normal eye, light passes through the lens and gets focused on the retina. To help produce a sharp image, the lens must remain clear.
How Is a Cataract Treated? For an early cataract, vision may improve by using different eyeglasses, magnifying lenses, or stronger lighting. If these measures don’t help, surgery is the only effective treatment. This treatment involves removing the cloudy lens and replacing it with a substitute lens, also known as an implant. A cataract needs to be removed only when vision loss interferes with your everyday activities, such as driving, reading, or watching TV. You and your eye surgeons can make that decision together. How Is a Cataract Removed? Cataracts are removed with surgery, performed in an outpatient surgical center. In most cataract surgeries your native lens is replaced by an intraocular lens (IOL). The traditional method of replacing your native lens is with an IOL, aimed for good distance vision only. These are known as “monofocal lenses”. You would oftentimes still need reading glasses with monofocal lenses. One way to decrease your need for reading glasses would be to have one eye corrected for distance and one for near. This is called monovision. Depth perception can sometimes be affected by this option. That is why the new IOL technology is so exciting. Each of the approved IOLs has its advantages and disadvantages. Your eye surgeon will review the risks, benefits and alternatives of multifocal implants with you in order to choose the best lens for you. Cataract surgery is covered by most insurance plans, however, the newer IOL implants are generally not covered and require additional outof-pocket expenses besides the usual co-pay, co-insurance, or deductibles you would normally be responsible for. While this is unfortunate financially, the IOLs themselves are certainly worth the extra expenditures in appropriate patients. Your surgeon will determine if you are a good candidate for these new implants.

Saving Your Natural Teeth When Periodontal Regeneration Can Be an Alternative to Extraction
By Marc P. Stanard, DDS, PC When periodontal disease causes significant loss of the bone and tissues supporting a tooth, extraction may sometimes appear inevitable. However, advances in periodontal regenerative therapy have made it possible in selected cases to rebuild some of these supporting structures and preserve natural teeth that might otherwise be lost. Periodontitis is a chronic disease in which inflammation and the body’s
response to bacterial infection progressively damage the periodontal ligament and alveolar bone that anchor teeth in place. As this support is lost, periodontal pockets deepen and teeth may eventually become mobile. The amount and pattern of this destruction play an important role in determining whether a tooth can be successfully treated. What Is Periodontal Regeneration? Unlike treatments designed primarily to control infection and inflammation, regenerative periodontal procedures attempt to restore structures that have already been damaged by disease. Depending on the type of periodontal defect, treatment may involve bone grafting materials, barrier membranes used in guided tissue regeneration, or biologic materials that encourage the body’s natural healing processes. These techniques are designed to create an environment in
which new bone, periodontal ligament, and supporting tissues may develop. Not every area of periodontal bone loss can be predictably regenerated. Certain contained or vertical bone defects, for example, may respond more favorably to regenerative treatment than generalized horizontal bone loss. Careful examination and dental imaging are therefore essential when determining whether regeneration is appropriate. Can the Natural Tooth Be Saved? The decision to retain or extract a compromised tooth involves much more than determining how much bone has already been lost. A periodontist also considers tooth mobility, the shape and number of the roots, the location of the periodontal defect, the health of the remaining supporting tissues, bite forces, smoking, systemic health, and the patient’s ability to maintain good oral hygiene.
When these factors are favorable, periodontal therapy may help stabilize a tooth and extend its functional life. In other situations, the extent of disease or structural damage may make extraction and replacement the more predictable option. Successful regenerative treatment does not eliminate susceptibility to periodontal disease. The bacterial infection and inflammatory response that contributed to the original damage must remain controlled through meticulous home care and regular periodontal maintenance. Dental implants provide an important option when teeth cannot be maintained, but extraction should not automatically be considered the first solution for every compromised tooth. When appropriate, periodontal regeneration can offer an opportunity to preserve the natural dentition by rebuilding the foundation that supports it.

Your Health Magazine is on a mission. There are far too many people, insured or not, who do not go to the doctor when they should, and in millions of cases, don’t know who they should go to, or why. People are encouraged to buy a new house, car, cell phone or big screen TV, and those companies make themselves very visible and their products easily attainable. Information about, and from, local healthcare providers is not easy to find, and many times those services are difficult to access. Information and encouragement always lowers fear and trepidation about anything, and this is especially true in healthcare. While general information is available on web-sites, specific information from local providers is almost impossible for people to find. This is one of the key reasons chronic and episodic conditions are not cared for. It is our mission to: Make A Difference By Empowering and Encouraging People To Live Healthier By Going To the Doctor When They Should. There is a lot of evidence that the health professionals who participate in Your Health Magazine have helped many people over the years. We at Your Health Magazine salute you! G. Podiatry and Exercise
Protecting Your Feet For a Lifetime Of Movement
By Lubrina Bryant, DPM District Podiatry, PLLC Exercise is one of the best investments you can make in your health, improving cardiovascular fitness, strengthening muscles and bones, supporting weight management, and enhancing mental well-being. But every walk, run, jump, or workout begins with one essential foundation—your feet. Healthy feet allow you to stay active, while foot pain or injury can quickly derail even the most dedicated fitness routine. That’s why podiatry plays an important role in helping people of all ages exercise safely and comfortably. Your feet contain 26 bones, 33 joints, and more than 100 muscles, tendons, and ligaments that work together to support your body with every step. During activities like running or jumping, your feet may absorb forces equal to two to three times your body weight. Over time, repetitive stress, poor footwear, or biomechanical imbalances can lead to pain and injury if left untreated. Some of the most common exercise-related foot and ankle conditions include plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis, stress fractures, heel pain, ankle sprains, bunions, and tendon injuries. Athletes and recreational exercisers alike can also develop blisters, ingrown toenails, calluses, and overuse injuries that interfere with training and everyday activities. Fortunately, many of these problems are preventable. Choosing supportive footwear designed for your specific activity is one of the most important steps. Running shoes, walking shoes, court shoes, and hiking boots are each engineered differently to provide the proper support, cushioning, and stability. Shoes should fit well, provide adequate toe room, and be replaced regularly as they lose their shock-absorbing ability. Stretching before and after exercise is equally important. Tight calf muscles and Achilles tendons can place excessive stress on the feet, increasing the risk of plantar fasciitis and tendon injuries. Strengthening www.yourhealthmagazine.net
exercises for the feet and ankles can also improve balance, stability, and overall performance while reducing the likelihood of falls and sprains. Podiatrists also evaluate the way you walk and run. Abnormal foot mechanics, such as flat feet, high arches, or excessive pronation, can contribute to recurring pain not only in the feet but also in the ankles, knees, hips, and lower back. Custom orthotics or specialized shoe recommendations may help improve alignment and distribute pressure more evenly during activity.
It’s important not to ignore persistent foot pain. Discomfort that lasts more than a few days, swelling, numbness, bruising, or pain that worsens during exercise should be evaluated promptly. Continuing to exercise through pain can transform a minor problem into a more serious injury requiring extended recovery. People with diabetes or poor circulation should be especially cautious when exercising. Daily foot inspections, proper footwear, and routine podiatric care help reduce the risk of wounds, infections, and other
complications. Whether you’re training for a marathon, enjoying daily walks, playing pickleball, or simply staying active to improve your health, healthy feet are essential for maintaining an active lifestyle. Regular podiatric evaluations, proper footwear, and early treatment of foot problems can keep you moving comfortably and confidently. By caring for your feet today, you’ll build a stronger foundation for lifelong fitness, better mobility, and improved overall health.

Our feet are important in our everyday lives. The problem is that we tend to neglect them. When this becomes a habit, it can cause significant trouble. Ignoring foot problems can mean pain, limited mobility, and expensive doctor’s visits. Understanding Kidney Stones
Causes, Symptoms, and Treatment Options By Mara Holton, MD Anne Arundel Urology
Kidney stones are a common and painful condition that affect millions of people worldwide. They occur when certain substances in urine— such as calcium, oxalate, and uric acid—crystallize and stick together, forming hard deposits. These stones can range in size from a grain of sand to a golf ball, and depending on their size, they may pass on their own or require medical or surgical treatment.
What Are Kidney Stones? Kidney stones are solid pieces of material that form in the kidneys when the concentration of certain minerals in your urine becomes too high. The stones may stay in the kidney or travel through the urinary tract, which includes the ureters (the tubes that carry urine from the kidneys to the bladder), the bladder, and the urethra (the tube that carries urine out of the body). Types Of Kidney Stones There are several types of kidney stones, classified based on their
composition: 1. Calcium Stones: The most common type, typically made of calcium oxalate or calcium phosphate. Oxalate is a naturally occurring substance found in some foods. 2. Uric Acid Stones: More common in people who don’t drink enough fluids, have a high-protein diet, or have gout. 3. Struvite Stones: These can form after a urinary tract infection and grow quickly. 4. Cystine Stones: Rare, occurring in

Mara Holton, MD people with a hereditary disorder called cystinuria. Causes Of Kidney Stones Kidney stones form when your urine contains more crystal-forming substances than the fluid in your urine can dilute. Risk factors for developing kidney stones include: • Dehydration: Not drinking enough water can lead to concentrated urine, making it easier for stones to form. • Diet: A diet high in salt, protein, and sugar can increase your risk. Foods high in oxalates, such as spinach, nuts, and chocolate, can also contribute. • Family Or Personal History: If someone in your family has had kidney stones, you’re more likely to develop them. • Medical Conditions: Conditions like gout, hyperparathyroidism, and urinary tract infections can increase your risk. • Medications: Certain medications, such as diuretics, antacids, or medications for seizures, may increase the likelihood of stone formation. Symptoms Of Kidney Stones Symptoms of kidney stones may not be noticeable until the stone begins to move within the kidney or into the ureter. When this happens, symptoms can include: • Severe Pain: Often in the back or side, below the ribs. The pain may spread to the lower abdomen and groin. • Painful Urination: You may feel discomfort or a burning sensation when urinating. • Blood In the Urine: Your urine may appear pink, red, or brown. • Cloudy or Foul-Smelling Urine: This could indicate an infection. • Nausea and Vomiting: These symptoms often accompany the pain. • Frequent Urination: You may feel an urgent need to urinate more often than usual. • Fevers & Infection: In some cases, stones can be associated with bladder, kidney or even systemic infections such as sepsis. Protecting Your Feet During Outdoor Exercise In Summer By Mikel Daniels, DPM, MBA We Treat Feet Podiatry and ankles! Essential Strategies For Health, Comfort, and Performance Summer offers plenty of opportunities to get outside and stay active, but warmer weather creates unique challenges for your feet. Whether you’re running, hiking, power walking, or enjoying other outdoor activities, proper precautions can help prevent discomfort and injury. Why Foot Protection Matters In Summer Heat and perspiration create a warm, moist environment inside shoes, increasing the risk of blisters, athlete’s foot, fungal infections, and skin irritation. Hot pavement, sand, and pool decks can also cause burns when walking barefoot. Increased summer activity may contribute to plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinitis, stress fractures, and other overuse injuries. Footwear matters, too. Flip-flops and unsupportive sandals may be convenient, but extended wear can place additional strain on your feet and ankles. Strategies For Safe Summer Workouts Choose lightweight, breathable athletic shoes appropriate for your activity. Proper cushioning, arch support, stability, and fit are essential. Because feet can swell during hotweather exercise, make sure your toes have adequate room. Socks are equally important. Moisture-wicking materials such as Coolmax, polyester blends, or lightweight merino wool help pull perspiration away from the skin. Avoid cotton, which absorbs moisture and stays wet, increasing friction and the likelihood of blisters. If your socks become soaked during a long workout, change into a dry pair when possible. Summer terrain also requires attention. Trails, beaches, and uneven surfaces can increase the risk of ankle injuries. Wear footwear with appropriate traction and support, and avoid walking barefoot where sharp objects or hot surfaces may be present. www.yourhealthmagazine.net
Although temperatures are warmer, your muscles still need preparation. Begin with dynamic movements such as calf raises, ankle circles, walking lunges, or marching in place. Whenever possible, exercise during cooler morning or evening hours to reduce heat-related fatigue. Pay Attention To Your Feet Don’t ignore pain, burning, numbness, swelling, or persistent discomfort. After activity, wash and thoroughly dry your feet, especially between the toes. Check for redness,
blisters, cuts, or swelling. Always trim toenails straight across. Long or improperly trimmed nails can repeatedly strike the inside of athletic shoes, leading to bruising or ingrown toenails. Hydration is also essential. Dehydration and fatigue can affect your performance and alter how you walk or run, potentially increasing stress on your feet and ankles. People with diabetes, neuropathy, or circulatory conditions should
take extra precautions. Avoid walking barefoot, inspect your feet regularly, and promptly report wounds or unusual symptoms to your podiatrist. Final Thoughts Regular exercise benefits both physical and mental health. With supportive footwear, proper hydration, smart exercise habits, and routine foot checks, you can stay active, comfortable, and healthy throughout the summer. As always, consult your physician before beginning any new or extensive exercise routine.

Breaking Through the Weight Loss Plateau
By Dr. Tiffany Daniel Live To Day Wellness You’ve been eating better. You’re exercising regularly. The pounds were coming off, and then suddenly…nothing. Sound familiar? If so, don’t get discouraged. Hitting a weight loss plateau is a normal part of the journey, and it does not mean you have failed. In fact, it often means your body is adapting to the
healthy changes you have made. Our bodies are designed to survive. As you lose weight, your body requires fewer calories to function than it did before. If you continue eating and exercising exactly the same way, your progress may begin to slow. This is why it’s important to reassess your routine instead of giving up. The first place to look is your nutrition. Portion sizes have a way of gradually increasing without us realizing it. Healthy foods are still calories, so take a fresh look at your meals. Continue filling your plate with lean protein, colorful vegetables, whole grains, and healthy fats while limiting highly processed foods and sugary beverages. Next, evaluate your protein intake. Protein helps preserve muscle during weight loss and keeps you Please see “Weight Loss,” page 30

What is Temporomandibular Disorder (TMD)?
By Jeffrey L. Brown, DDS Sleep & TMJ Therapy
So what does it mean when a person says “I have TMJ”? Well, technically, it means that you have a temporomandibular joint. And technically, that’s all it means- you have a jaw joint. In reality, most people are
actually saying “I have TMD”- which more literally means they have TMJ disorder. TMD refers to the displacement or actual slipping of the articular disc off of the condyle. In English, this means that the little cushioning disc on top of your jaw bone has slipped off the bone and is now rubbing around in
that little socket just in front of your ear. That slipped disc can and will pinch nerves and blood vessels and this can wreak havoc with your entire body. The symptoms of TMD include head and neck pain, migraines, jaw clicking/popping/pain, facial tics or tremors, and various other body issues. There are many patients over the
We Are NOT Your Typical Dental Office We Can Help With: • Jaw Pain, • Migraines Clicking or • Craniofacial Popping Pain • Head, Neck and • Sleep Apnea Shoulder Pain • Orthodontics Dr. Jeffrey Brown has limited his practice to focus only on TMJ Disorders, Craniofacial Pain Management and Sleep Apnea. By fixing slipped discs in the jaw joints, Dr. Brown can significantly reduce the pain patients experience in the head/neck region and other symptoms associated with jaw joint problems. Sleep & TMJ Therapy may be able to improve the quality of life for you or a loved one – we encourage you to contact us with any questions or concerns.

“Dr. Brown and his staff are absolutely wonderful. I was diagnosed with Dystonia. I could not turn my head and had a ton of pain. My doctors offered no help and no advice besides Meds and Botox. Since having the appliance I have NO pain and I can turn my head. I would highly recommend them to anyone. I feel Dr. Brown and his staff really care about their patients and helping them to get better. They do not just numb the symptoms but fix the problem. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I feel like the old me again!” - D. Thomas “My daughter has been treated by Dr. Stack and Dr. Brown for the last 2 1/2 years, and we are very fortunate to have found them. Prior to that she was being treated by a neurologist at a Children’s hospital. She was on medications for tics and associated muscle pain, OCD/repetitive thoughts, sleeplessness and more (all possibly associated with Tourettes). Drs. Stack and Brown installed spacers to alleviate pressure on nerve bundles in the jaw, and subsequently braces to complete the process. Her symptoms have diminished significantly. She is off medication, her tics have all but disappeared, she can concentrate better in school, and she is once again cheerful and relaxed.” - Susan

Jeffrey L. Brown, DDS years who have presented with body tics (and this is sometimes a Tourette’s situation) and the appliances used can help mitigate their symptoms. There was actually a study done in Osaka at the university that confirmed symptoms of Tourette’s were actually reduced greatly by wearing a TMD appliance! The understanding is that the nerve in the jaw joint- most likely the auriculotemporal nerve- is being pinched and this can cause the tics of Tourette’s. By decompressing the TMJ joint disc, this can alleviate those tics and Osaka university has confirmed the efficacy of the dental appliance used for Tourette’s. The bottom line here is that when the little disc is slipped off the condyle bone in the jaw socket, it can really hurt the body badly. Our office has become quite efficient at identifying the damaged disc through the use of a detailed MRI that looks directly at the discs and the radiologist we use is able to produce a very detailed report that can be used to diagnose the problem. From there, a treatment plan that includes wearing various devices can be developed. You do not need to wear the device(s) forever. The good news is that after a year of treating the damaged joints, usually the patient feels so much better and we can then use orthodontic techniques to raise the teeth up to the right height to support the TM joints. It is quite a process and took years to develop, but nowadays we can use clear aligners in almost all cases and this makes the work so much easier for everyone. It is rare, but sometimes we need to have surgery done for the discs when they are beyond repair. Years ago this was a difficult procedure, but today it has become much easier for both the patient and the doctor. We even have a technique called ‘arthrocentisis’ in which the joints are flushed out and cleaned to remove debris and bony pieces that can cause pain. This procedure has shown good promise. There are other techniques in treating TMD and those can be reviewed in the next article. 301-805-6805

Looking Beyond the Smile Why Gum Health Matters
By Michael Rogers, DDS Fairlington Dental When most people think about their oral health, they think about their teeth. But healthy teeth depend on healthy gums. Your gums protect the tissues and bone that support your teeth, and inflammation in the gums can affect much more than your smile. Gum health deserves the same attention as the rest of your oral health. Keeping your gums healthy can help protect your teeth while also helping control inflammation. What Happens When Gums Become Unhealthy? Gum disease often starts quietly. Plaque and bacteria collect along the gumline, causing inflammation known as gingivitis. You may notice that your
gums bleed when you brush or floss or that they look red or swollen. Without treatment, inflammation can move deeper beneath the gumline. This can lead to periodontitis, which can damage the bone and tissues that hold your teeth in place. The challenge is that gum disease does not always hurt. Some people have significant inflammation without realizing anything is wrong. Signs Your Gums Need Attention Changes in your gums are worth paying attention to. Common signs of gum disease include: • Bleeding when brushing or flossing • Red, swollen, or tender gums • Persistent bad breath or a bad taste • Receding gums • Loose or shifting teeth • Changes in the way your teeth fit together Bleeding gums are not something you should simply accept as normal. They can be a sign that inflammation is already present.
Why Gum Health Matters Beyond Your Mouth Your mouth is connected to the rest of your body, and inflammation in the gums can affect more than your oral health. Periodontal disease has been associated with health conditions such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease. These connections do not mean that gum disease directly causes these conditions. However, they demonstrate how closely oral health and overall health can be connected, particularly for people managing other health concerns. That is why periodontal health should be considered part of the bigger picture when caring for your overall well-being. Keeping Your Gums Healthy Healthy gums start with consistent care. Brushing twice a day and cleaning between your teeth help control plaque, while regular professional cleanings remove buildup that can be difficult to reach at home. Regular periodontal evaluations
are just as important. Measuring gum pockets and monitoring changes over time can help identify problems before they become more difficult to manage. When treatment is needed, options may include scaling and root planing or laser periodontal therapy. Saliva testing may also provide information about the bacteria in your mouth and help your dental provider better understand your individual oral health. Making Periodontal Health a Priority Gum disease should not be viewed as an isolated problem. Your dental provider may consider your symptoms, inflammation, oral health, risk factors, and overall health when determining the appropriate approach to care. Healthy gums provide a strong foundation for healthy teeth and a healthy smile. Paying attention to changes, maintaining good daily oral hygiene, and scheduling regular dental evaluations can help protect your gums – and your oral health – for years to come.
Optimum Health Begins With Oral Health At Fairlington Dental, we understand the connection between a healthy smile and a healthy body. As a result, we look at the whole person to discover the reasons a patient may have gum disease or a bad bite. A number of studies link heart disease and other serious conditions to the presence of periodontal (gum) disease. This research makes it vital that we take a Complete Health approach to your dental care. Dr. Rogers will listen to you, conduct a careful assessment, and carefully explain your proposed customized wellness plan. He will then take the time to answer all of your questions. You become a partner in your oral health goals! Our team has mastered the techniques of gentle dentistry and is skilled at helping patients with any level of apprehension relax and grow comfortable with visiting the dentist. Anxiety and tension have a variety of sources, so it’s important for us to listen to your concerns as well as your goals and history. Then we address your anxieties and proceed with gentle treatment only when you’re ready. We deliver all of this in an office that is environmentally aware, while you enjoy a variety of spa-like amenities during your visit. One of our greatest joys is helping patients smile again, especially those who may not have seen a dentist in a while. You’ll be amazed at how the quality of life can change! We strive to create a partnership with you that starts the moment you walk through our door.

Chinese Acupuncture For Shoulder Pain
By Quansheng Lu, CMD, PhD, LAc Wholelife Chinese Medicine & Acupuncture Center The origins of Chinese acupuncture date back more than 3,000
years, becoming an integral aspect of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). This therapeutic practice involves the insertion of fine needles into specific points on the skin to promote healing. By targeting these points, acupuncture aims to restore the flow of energy along the body’s meridians, which, according to theory, becomes obstructed, leading to discomfort. Shoulder pain ranks among the

While less frequent, shoulder pain can also result from tumors, infections, or nerve-related issues. Does Acupuncture Alleviate Shoulder Pain? Research from June 2009, conducted at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, examined the efficacy of acupuncture in managing shoulder pain. In a single-blind randomized trial, adults experiencing shoulder pain for at least eight weeks due to osteoarthritis or rotator cuff tendonitis were assessed. Thirty-one participants were divided into three treatment groups: individualized acupuncture based on TCM principles, standardized acupuncture targeting typical shoulder pain points, and sham acupuncture without needle penetration. Following six weeks of treatment, improvements in the total Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI)

scores were observed across all groups. However, clinically significant changes were only evident in the first two groups. Consequently, acupuncture emerges as a potentially effective therapy for chronic shoulder pain. Why Does Acupuncture Sometimes Fail To Yield Results? The practice of traditional Chinese medicine, encompassing acupuncture and herbal remedies, is intricate and requires extensive training. Optimal treatment outcomes hinge on identifying the correct acupuncture point formula and precise point locations. Without this precision, acupuncture may not deliver desired results. Is Acupuncture Safe? Overall, acupuncture is considered a safe treatment option. Potential side effects include dizziness, localized bleeding, dermatitis, nerve injury, or increased pain, particularly in cases where practitioners lack adequate training. Therefore, the expertise of a welltrained and experienced acupuncturist is crucial for both efficacy and safety.
By Janet V. Johnson, MD Loving Care Pediatrics “First visit by first birthday.” This is the view of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. Pediatricians agree. The American Academy of Pediatrics suggests that children who are at risk of early childhood cavities visit a pediatric dentist by age one. National studies have shown that preschool-aged children are getting more cavities. More than one in four children in the United States has had at least one cavity by the age of one. Many kids get cavities as early as age two.
To prevent early childhood cavities, parents first have to find out their child’s risk of developing cavities. They also need to learn how to manage diet, hygiene and fluoride to prevent problems. But cavities aren’t all that parents need to learn about their child’s dental health. The age one dental visit lets parents discuss the following important facts. How to care for an infant’s or toddler’s mouth 1. Proper use of fluoride 2. Oral habits, including finger and thumb sucking 3. Ways to prevent accidents that could damage the face and teeth 4. Teething and milestones of development 5. The link between diet and oral health After this first visit, the pediatric dentist will suggest a schedule of follow-up visits. In the past, dentists typically called for visits every six months. However, this schedule may vary acPlease see “Dental Visit,” page 30

feeling satisfied longer. Maintaining muscle is important because muscle burns more calories than fat, even while your body is at rest. Now let’s talk about exercise. If you’ve been walking the same route every day for months, your body has likely become efficient at that activity. Try adding strength training two or three times each week, increasing the intensity of your walks, or incorporating intervals that alternate faster and slower paces. Small changes often produce big results. Just as important is recovery. Many people believe exercising more is always better, but the body also needs adequate sleep, hydration, and rest to repair itself. Chronic stress and lack of sleep can increase hormones that make weight loss more difficult while increasing cravings for unhealthy foods. Don’t overlook the importance
cording to each child’s needs and risks. As the child grows, the dental team can help you, the parent, learn how to prevent common oral problems. Before leaving the office, you should have a clear idea about 1. Your child’s development 2. Your responsibilities
of your mindset. Too often we allow the number on the scale to determine our success. Instead, celebrate the non-scale victories. Maybe your clothes fit better. Perhaps you have more energy, sleep more soundly, or can complete workouts that once seemed impossible. Those are victories worth celebrating. Finally, remember that weight loss is not a race. It is a lifestyle. Plateaus provide an opportunity to reflect, make adjustments, and recommit to your goals rather than abandon them. Stay focused. Stay patient. Trust the process. Success doesn’t come from being perfect every day. It comes from consistently making healthy choices, even when the scale refuses to move. Keep moving forward. Your body is changing, even when you can’t yet see it.
3. Follow-up care by the dentist 4. Your child’s likelihood of having problems with cavities or their bite You should have your questions answered. You also should know what you and the dentist can do together to make sure your child has excellent oral health.

Bird Mites
window frame, conceal themselves within the dense fibers of wall-towall carpeting, and settle directly into baseboards and nearby furniture, including sofas and recliner chairs, to stay close to their human targets. Despite executing standard professional exterminator protocols with no success, the family members discover that these resilient arachnids have adapted to their human presence, now feeding on them to survive without their natural hosts. The Hitchhiking Pattern: Surviving Multiple Relocations The infestation deepens, forcing multiple household moves and temporary hotel stays, across a threeyear timeline, yet the tiny mites travel unsuspectedly alongside the family members. This long-term survival directly exposes my primary field counter-finding, which is that these resilient bird mites are actively adapting to feed on human blood, allowing their populations to thrive completely independent of their original avian hosts. Even when physical specimens are carefully secured in-between two pieces of clear packing tape or placed inside clean glass vials as undeniable proof of this biological shift, medical practitioners operating under rigid institutional guidelines frequently dismiss the field observations and physical evidence entirely, defaulting to psychological misdiagnoses like deluwww.yourhealthmagazine.net

sional parasitosis, because despite this professional rejection, the collecting of evidence is what keeps one’s peace of mind and anchors your reality while living through the storm. The Automated Wall: How Technology Censors the Victim This alarming cycle highlights a massive systemic barrier inside our digital age, which is also known as the Fourth Industrial Revolution. While we are promised that artificial intelligence provides absolute data accessibility, the current infrastructure actively downvotes real, world case reports that challenge historical textbook dogmas. Modern online information filtering blocks patient voices through invisible parameters rather than overt censorship. Web search platforms and medical AI systems prioritize established data networks, automatically referencing multi, decade guidelines stating that bird mites, specifically species like Dermanyssus gallinaeor Ornithonyssus sylviarum, cannot survive without wild animal blood. Because large corporate entities rarely fund multi, year field studies on bird mite adaptations, these AI algorithms turn a blind eye to shifting environmental threats, leaving sufferers stranded in a digital vacuum where their real physical struggles are completely ignored by the system. Taking Control: Reclaiming
Your Data Autonomy This systemic filtering creates an environment of medical gaslighting that labels authentic field evidence as misinformation. When traditional networks choose to prioritize bureaucratic silence over physical evidence, families are forced to claim their independence, becoming dedicated primary researchers who track timelines and preserve evidence on their own terms. True credibility is not born from a corporate manual, it belongs to the observers who execute the exhausting field work, which is why sufferers must fight through a dense wilderness of information blockades. Finding answers in this environment is like a blind squirrel finding a nut, yet these dedicated people successfully break through the algorithmic noise to discover our independent biological tracking and non-toxic protocols, ultimately finding a trusted voice they can truly resonate with as they seek our professional coaching support. To help you navigate this difficult landscape, our extended real-world analysis provides your validation, showing the breakthrough findings built from our real-world data gathered from countless numbers of sufferers tracking this very threat, the specific scientific evidence documenting host adaptation, and the step-bystep methods required to establish your own verifiable records. You will
learn about the findings of the Eradizyme.com head researcher, exploring exactly how bird mites can live on human blood based on empirical evidence after the original host is gone. This is exactly where the rubber meets the road, because you must remain strong in your conviction, trust your own physical evidence, and refuse to give in to the institutional noise or the frustrating sting of professional dismissal. To review the full detailed analysis, map the exact mechanisms of information blocking, and access the complete multi-year tracking logs, view our core article, “The Silenced Patient: Algorithmic Censorship and Epistemic Injustice in Healthcare 4.0”, on the Eradizyme.com website, or contact our researcher directly at (888) 774-4046 from 9:00 am to 11:00 pm EST, 7 days a week, to discuss your environmental situation. Medical Information Disclaimer: The environmental tracking observations presented in this article are for educational and historical documentation purposes only, and they must never replace professional medical advice, clinical diagnosis, or prescriptive treatment. Because persistent skin irritations, sudden pinpricks, and physical red bites can resemble various dermatological conditions or separate health issues, you must always consult with a qualified physician to evaluate your medical options. Our empirical field findings focus strictly on non-toxic enzyme environmental habitat management, and readers are instructed to verify all physical product labels to confirm proper safety applications.

Life After 70
Embracing Purpose, Peace, and New Possibilities
By Toni Greene, Owner Happy Hour Yoga on Zoom! Reaching the age of 70 is not the end of life’s journey—it is the beginning of a season filled with wisdom, freedom, and opportunity. While
society often focuses on youth, those who have lived seven decades possess something far more valuable: experience, resilience, and the ability to inspire others. Life after 70 can become one of the richest chapters when it is lived with purpose, gratitude, and an open heart. Every person carries unique gifts that do not diminish with age. In fact,
many gifts become stronger over time. Compassion deepens, patience grows, and life lessons become treasures that can be shared with family, friends, and the community. Whether it is mentoring younger generations, volunteering, creating art, teaching, or simply offering a listening ear, these gifts have the power to change lives. There is no retirement from kindness,

wisdom, or love. Finding direction after 70 often means asking a different question. Instead of asking, “What do I have left to do?” ask, “How can I best use the gifts I have today?” Purpose does not depend on age. It grows from serving others, continuing to learn, and living each day intentionally. New hobbies, travel, writing, gardening, or starting a community group can all become meaningful paths forward. Every sunrise offers another opportunity to make a positive difference. Yoga is a beautiful practice for this stage of life. Gentle yoga improves flexibility, balance, strength, and posture while helping reduce stress and stiffness. More importantly, yoga reminds us to breathe deeply and move with awareness. It teaches us that every movement can become an expression of gratitude for the body that has carried us through life’s many seasons. Meditation complements yoga by nourishing the mind and spirit. Even a few minutes of quiet breathing each day can calm anxiety, improve focus, and create a sense of inner peace. Meditation encourages us to let go of worries about the past or future and to appreciate the present moment. In stillness, we often discover clarity, joy, and a deeper connection to ourselves and to something greater than ourselves. Life after 70 is also a time to recognize our blessings. Gratitude has the remarkable ability to transform ordinary days into extraordinary ones. Appreciating good health, meaningful relationships, cherished memories, and even small moments of beauty brings hope and contentment. A grateful heart sees abundance where others see limitation. Growing older is not about slowing down; it is about living more intentionally. It is a season to celebrate life’s blessings, share your gifts generously, care for your body through yoga, quiet your mind through meditation, and continue walking with purpose. Peace comes not from having a perfect life but from embracing each day with hope, love, and gratitude. At 70 and beyond, life still holds countless opportunities to grow, to serve, and to thrive. The best chapters may still be waiting to be written. 301-805-6805
Eating for a Productive Workday
How Nutrition Affects Energy, Focus, and Performance
Submitted by ScholarsHub.net
A productive day does not depend on motivation and time management alone. What we eat can influence energy, concentration, and mental performance throughout the day. For students and working professionals, understanding the relationship between nutrition and productivity can make healthy eating more than a wellness goal—it can become part of performing at your best. Fueling the Brain The brain requires a continu-
ous supply of energy to function. Carbohydrates are broken down into glucose, which serves as an important energy source for the brain and body. However, different foods affect blood sugar differently. Meals dominated by refined carbohydrates and added sugars may produce rapid changes in blood glucose, potentially contributing to fluctuations in energy and hunger. Combining complex carbohydrates with protein, fiber, and healthy fats generally provides a more balanced meal and can help maintain energy between meals.
For example, oatmeal with fruit and nuts or a whole-grain sandwich with lean protein and vegetables provides a mixture of nutrients rather than relying primarily on rapidly digested carbohydrates. Avoiding the Afternoon Slump A large lunch followed by hours at a desk can leave some people feeling sluggish. Instead of depending on another cup of coffee or a sugary snack, consider the composition of lunch. Meals containing vegetables or fruit, whole grains or other fiberrich carbohydrates, protein, and healthy fats can provide nutrients while supporting sustained energy. Portion size matters, too. Eating until comfortably satisfied rather than overly full may make it easier to remain alert afterward. Don’t Forget Hydration Even mild dehydration can affect how a person feels and functions. Headaches, fatigue, and difficulty concentrating may be related to inadequate fluid intake. Keeping water nearby during the work or school day is a simple way to make
hydration easier. Coffee and tea can fit into a healthy routine for many adults, but caffeine should not become a substitute for adequate sleep, food, or hydration. Plan For Busy Days One of the biggest barriers to nutritious eating is a lack of convenient, healthy options. When deadlines pile up, vending machines, fast food, and skipped meals can become the default. Preparing simple lunches and snacks in advance can help. Fruit, yogurt, nuts, vegetables, whole-grain crackers, and other portable foods can provide convenient alternatives when schedules become demanding. The Takeaway Nutrition is not simply about weight. Food provides the energy and nutrients the body and brain need to learn, solve problems, communicate, and work effectively. For students and professionals, making thoughtful food choices can support steady energy, concentration, and overall health – making nutrition another valuable tool for a productive day.
