Many people assume that tooth pain is “just a dental problem.” They delay treatment, hoping the discomfort will go away on its own. Others ignore small cracks in their teeth or continue living with old silver amalgam fillings for years without realizing the impact these issues may have on their overall health and wellbeing.
As a holistic and integrated dentist, I believe oral health is closely connected to the health of the entire body. The mouth is not isolated from the rest of the body. Chronic inflammation, infection, stress on the jaw, and damaged teeth can contribute to a variety of symptoms that extend far beyond the mouth.
A toothache is often the body’s warning signal that something deeper is happening. Infection, nerve inflammation, cracked teeth,

grinding, or leaking fillings may create ongoing stress within the immune system. When left untreated, dental infections can spread into surrounding tissues and, in some cases, affect sinus health, jaw joints, sleep quality, digestion, and even cardiovascular health.
One commonly overlooked issue is cracked teeth associated with aging silver amalgam fillings. Large amalgam fillings expand and contract over time with temperature

changes from hot and cold foods. This repeated stress may weaken the tooth structure and increase the risk of fractures and cracks. Many patients do not realize they have a cracked tooth until they begin experiencing sharp pain while chewing, temperature sensitivity, headaches, or unexplained facial discomfort.
Cracked teeth may also create hidden spaces where bacteria can accumulate, increasing inflammation and irritation around the tooth and gums. Chronic inflammation in the mouth has been linked in medical research to broader systemic health concerns, including inflammation throughout the body.
At Burke Dental, we believe great dentistry goes beyond healthy teeth — it’s about trust, comfort, and confidence in your care. Here’s why families across Burke, Fairfax, and Springfield, VA choose Dr. Farzin Ghanavati and his team for their dental needs:

In holistic and integrated dentistry, we focus not only on relieving pain but also on identifying the underlying cause and supporting long-term wellness. Modern dental materials and conservative restorative techniques can help strengthen damaged teeth while reducing unnecessary stress on the body. Replacing failing fillings, protecting cracked teeth early, and addressing bite imbalances can help prevent more serious complications in the future.
Many patients are surprised to learn that symptoms such as chronic headaches, jaw tension, neck pain, fatigue, poor sleep, and even difficulty concentrating may sometimes be connected to unresolved dental problems.
Pain should never be ignored. The earlier dental problems are diagnosed and treated, the more conservative and predictable the treatment can be. Listening to your body’s warning signs may not only save your tooth but may also protect your overall health.

From major league stadiums to small-town courts, America’s favorite pastimes make great memories for many. But for more than 42,000 athletes, those memories are ruined by eye injuries, the vast majority of which were preventable.
Injuries range from abrasions of the cornea and bruises of the eyelids to internal eye injuries, such as retinal detachments and internal bleeding. Many of these injuries lead to vision loss and permanent blindness.
The thousands of eye injuries each year aren’t only from basketball, baseball, football and hockey. Soccer, tennis, golf and water sports are also dangerous to the eyes. Each activity has its own specific protective eyewear, so when selecting eyewear make sure it is appropriate for your sport.
Today’s athletes can choose from various types of sturdy, lightweight and effective eyewear. When properly fitted, eyewear does not hinder performance and can prevent 90% of sports eye injuries.
So when participating in sports, be sure to:
• Select protective eyewear that is appropriate for the sport
• Be sure eyewear has polycarbonate lenses or shields
• Have eyewear properly fitted by an eye care professional Eye Safety For Children
Accidents resulting in eye injuries can happen to anyone. More than half of all eye injuries occur in people under the age of 25. Of the 100,000 eye injuries that occur annually, 40% occur during sports or recreational activities.
In the 5-14 age group, baseball is the number one cause of sports-related injuries. In the 15-24 age group, basketball is the most common cause of eye injuries, with injuries caused by contact with fingers and elbows. Perhaps the most startling statistic is that 90% of all eye injuries could be prevented.
It is important for parents to familiarize themselves with potentially dangerous situations at home and in school and to insist that their children use protective eyewear when participating in sports or other hazardous activities.
Eye Safety At Home and In the Yard
To provide the safest environment for your children, select games and toys that are appropriate for their age and responsibility level.
Provide adequate supervision and instruction when your children handle potentially dangerous items, such as pencils, scissors, forks and penknives. Be aware that even common household items such as paper clips, bungee cords, wire coat hangers, rubber bands and

fishhooks can cause serious eye injury. Avoid projectile toys such as darts, bows and arrows, and missile firing toys. Do not allow your children to play with non-powder rifles, pellet guns or BB guns. They are extremely dangerous and have been reclassified as firearms and removed from toy departments.
Keep all chemicals and sprays such as sink cleaners or oven cleaners, out of reach of small children. Do not allow children to ignite fireworks or stand near others who are doing so. All fireworks are potentially dangerous for children of all ages.
Do not allow children in the yard while a lawn mower is in use. Stones and debris thrown from moving blades can cause severe eye injuries.
Demonstrate the use of appropriate protective eyewear to children by always wearing protective eyewear yourself while using power tools, rotary mowers, line lawn trimmers, or while hammering. Children will learn by your example.
Whatever your game, whatever your age, you need to protect your eyes. See your eye care professional today for appropriate protective eyewear.
When an Injury Does Occur
It is always best to have an ophthalmologist examine the eyes as soon as possible when an injury does occur. The seriousness of an eye injury may not be immediately obvious.

Your Health Magazine is on a mission. There are far too many people, insured or not, who do not go to the doctor when they should, and in millions of cases, don’t know who they should go to, or why.
People are encouraged to buy a new house, car, cell phone or big screen TV, and those companies make themselves very visible and their products easily attainable.
Information about, and from, local healthcare providers is not easy to find, and many times those services are difficult to access.
Information and encouragement always lowers fear and trepidation about anything, and this is especially true in healthcare. While general information is available on web-sites, specific information from local providers is almost impossible for people to find. This is one of the key reasons chronic and episodic conditions are not cared for. It is our mission to:
Make A Difference By Empowering and Encouraging People To Live Healthier By Going To the Doctor When They Should.
There is a lot of evidence that the health professionals who participate in Your Health Magazine have helped many people over the years. We at Your Health Magazine salute you!

tooth. Gum disease is managed through deep cleaning procedures such as scaling and root planing, along with improved oral hygiene practices. In cases of severe damage, tooth extraction may be necessary, followed by restorative options like implants or bridges.
Pain is one of the most common reasons people seek dental care, yet it is also one of the most feared aspects of visiting the dentist. Dentistry has evolved significantly over the years, not only in treating oral diseases but also in managing and minimizing pain. Understanding the causes of dental pain and the methods used to address it can help patients feel more confident and proactive about their oral health.
Dental pain can arise from a variety of sources, most commonly tooth decay, gum disease, tooth fractures, or infections such as abscesses. Tooth decay occurs when bacteria break down the enamel, eventually reaching the sensitive inner layers of the tooth. This can lead to sharp or throbbing pain, especially when eating or drinking hot, cold, or sweet substances. Gum disease, or periodontal disease, may cause swelling, bleeding, and discomfort in the gums, sometimes progressing to pain in more advanced stages.
Another frequent cause of dental pain is sensitivity. This occurs when the protective enamel layer wears down or when gums recede, exposing the underlying dentin. As a result, everyday activities like brushing or consuming cold drinks can trigger discomfort. Additionally, impacted teeth – especially wisdom teeth – can create pressure and pain as they push against surrounding teeth or fail to emerge properly.
Modern dentistry places a strong emphasis on pain prevention and management. Dentists use a range of techniques to ensure that procedures are as comfortable as possible. Local anesthesia is the most common method, numbing the specific area being treated so patients do not feel pain during procedures such as fillings or extractions. For more complex or anxiety-inducing treatments, sedation options – including oral sedatives, nitrous oxide (laughing gas), or intravenous sedation – may be used to help patients relax.
Beyond clinical treatments, dentists also focus on addressing the root cause of pain. For example, cavities are treated with fillings, while more severe decay may require root canal therapy to remove infected tissue and preserve the
Prevention plays a critical role in reducing dental pain. Maintaining good oral hygiene – brushing twice daily, flossing regularly, and using fluoride toothpaste – helps prevent decay and gum disease. Regular dental checkups allow for early
detection of potential problems before they become painful. Diet also has an impact; limiting sugary foods and drinks can reduce the risk of cavities.
Psychological factors should not be overlooked when discussing pain in dentistry. Dental anxiety is common and can heighten the perception of pain. Open communication between patients and dental professionals is essential to address fears and create a more comfortable experience. Many dental practices now prioritize patient
comfort through calming environments and patient-centered care approaches. In conclusion, while dental pain is a common concern, advancements in dentistry have made it highly manageable and often preventable. By understanding the causes of oral discomfort and seeking timely care, individuals can maintain healthy teeth and gums while minimizing pain. Dentistry today is not just about treatment – it is about ensuring comfort, confidence, and long-term oral health.

As parents and caregivers, it can be distressing to see a child in pain –especially when it comes to something as uncomfortable as a toothache. Dental pain can interfere with eating, sleeping, and daily activities, affecting a child’s overall well-being. Understanding the causes, signs, and appropriate responses to toothaches can help ensure
children receive timely care and relief.
Understanding Toothaches In
Toothaches in children can result from a variety of issues, including cavities, tooth fractures, gum infections, or injuries to the mouth. While a toothache may sometimes seem minor, ignoring it can lead to more serious complications such as abscesses or infections that may spread. Prompt attention from a dental professional is important to protect both
oral health and overall health.
Signs Of a Toothache To Watch
Children may not always clearly communicate what they’re feeling, so it’s important to recognize the signs of dental discomfort. Common indicators include:
• Frequently touching or holding the face or mouth
• Avoiding food or drinks, especially hot or cold items

• Trouble sleeping or increased irritability
• Swelling in the cheek or jaw area
• Fever or headaches in more severe situations

At Elite Pediatric Dentistry, we make going to the dentist a joy – not a fear. From toddlers to teens, our kid-friendly, anxiety-free care helps every child feel safe, seen, and celebrated.
Led by Dr. April Toyer, a Board Certified Pediatric Dentist with a gift for connecting with kids (even the anxious ones!), we’re here to build lifelong confidence – one smile at a time.
If any of these symptoms appear, seeking dental care as soon as possible can help identify and treat the problem early.
What To Expect From Emergency
When a child experiences a toothache, dental professionals aim to provide prompt and compassionate care. The focus is on relieving pain while identifying and treating the underlying cause. Dentists often use gentle techniques designed specifically for children to help them feel calm and comfortable during treatment. Modern dental practices are equipped with advanced diagnostic tools, such as digital imaging, which allow for accurate and efficient evaluation. Treatment options vary depending on the issue and may include fillings for cavities, treatment of infections, or, in some cases, tooth extraction. Pain management is always a priority, ensuring the child’s experience is as stress-free as possible.
Although not all toothaches can be avoided, there are several steps that can significantly reduce the risk:
• Maintain good oral hygiene: Encourage regular brushing and flossing using proper techniques.
• Schedule routine dental visits: Regular check-ups help detect problems early before they become painful.
• Promote a balanced diet: Limiting sugary and acidic foods can help prevent tooth decay.
• Use protective gear: Mouthguards can help prevent dental injuries during sports or physical activities. Supporting Your Child’s Oral Health
A healthy smile plays an important role in a child’s confidence and overall health. Taking toothaches seriously and seeking timely care can prevent complications and reduce discomfort. Equally important is creating a positive attitude toward dental visits, helping children feel safe and supported.

CO2 skin resurfacing is a cosmetic laser procedure designed to improve the appearance and texture of the skin by reducing visible signs of aging, sun damage, acne scars, and uneven tone. The treatment uses concentrated carbon dioxide (CO2) laser energy to carefully remove damaged outer layers of skin while also stimulating collagen production deeper within the skin.
As the skin heals, new collagen helps create a smoother, firmer, and more refreshed appearance. Many people seek CO2 resurfacing to address concerns such as fine lines around the eyes and mouth, rough skin texture, acne scarring, sunspots, and wrinkles caused by years of sun exposure.
Unlike some lighter cosmetic treatments, CO2 resurfacing is considered a more intensive procedure because it targets deeper layers of the skin. During treatment, a provider passes the laser over specific areas of the face or body. The laser removes damaged skin cells while encouraging the body’s natural healing process. Depending on the treatment area and intensity, the procedure may take anywhere from 30 minutes to more than an hour.
Recovery time varies from person to person. Many patients experience redness, swelling, peeling, or sensitivity for several days after treatment. Proper aftercare is important and typically includes gentle skincare, avoiding sun exposure, and keeping the skin hydrated during healing. Because the skin is especially sensitive after resurfacing, sunscreen and sun protection play a critical role in recovery and long-term results.
CO2 laser resurfacing is not ideal for everyone. Factors such as skin tone, medical history, active skin conditions, and recent cosmetic procedures can affect whether the treatment is appropriate. People with darker skin tones may face a higher risk of pigmentation changes, making professional
evaluation especially important before treatment.
While results can be impressive, patients should understand that healing takes time and that outcomes vary. For some individuals, multiple sessions may be recommended to achieve the desired improvement. When performed by a qualified professional, CO2 resurfacing can be an effective option for skin rejuvenation and improving overall skin texture and appearance.

Ready for smoother, brighter, more youthfullooking skin—without surgery? At VASA Cosmetic, our advanced laser skin resurfacing treatments are designed to give your skin a true reset.
Using precise, medically guided laser technology, we gently remove damaged outer layers while stimulating collagen deep within the skin. The result? A smoother texture, more even tone, and a naturally radiant glow.

In the world of TMD (temporomandibular disorder), there are many ways to treat the problem, but it must always begin with a good diagnosis. First and foremost are an MRI and CBCT x-ray of the joints and surrounding areas. The MRI is a magnetic imaging device that looks directly at the discs in the jaw joints. This high-
tech machine looks inside the joints and produces soft tissue images to help with your diagnosis. The CBCT is the x-ray machine that uses low-dose radiation to look at the bones inside the skull, the cervical spine, the teeth, and the condyles. These tools are what we use to come up with a diagnosis and then a plan to help you get better.
In many cases, the ALF wire is a really great device to help in so many ways. It will help position the tongue

to the roof of the mouth, which helps with better nasal breathing. It also promotes better swallowing. With good tongue positioning and better swallowing, you will breathe better as time goes by. This is one reason the ALF is very helpful.
Another appliance called the Gelb is an orthotic device that makes sure the condyle (hard bone) does not bang into the soft tissue disc. This appliance is helpful for so many people as it

helps avoid the need for TMJ surgery in many cases. The idea is that you wear the Gelb for a year, maybe more, to give the discs a chance to get back into the proper position. In almost all cases, pain is reduced, and the person also sleeps better.
One of the most interesting bits of technology we have is the Fotona laser. This is a nonsurgical laser that penetrates deep into the tissue to reduce pain and inflammation. It stimulates the regeneration of damaged tissue. This device has been amazingly successful with our patients who need some degree of relief right away. In addition, the laser has a specific protocol that helps to reduce fat in the tongue, along with lifting the palate area to improve symptoms from sleep apnea. This, too, is a nonsurgical procedure and fairly easy to do in almost all cases.
Dr. Jeffrey Brown has limited his practice to focus only on TMJ Disorders, Craniofacial Pain Management and Sleep Apnea. By fixing slipped discs in the jaw joints, Dr. Brown can significantly reduce the pain patients experience in the head/neck region and other symptoms associated with jaw joint problems. Sleep & TMJ Therapy may be able to improve the quality of life for you or a loved one – we encourage you to contact us with any questions or concerns.
“Dr. Brown and his staff are absolutely wonderful. I was diagnosed with Dystonia. I could not turn my head and had a ton of pain. My doctors offered no help and no advice besides Meds and Botox. Since having the appliance I have NO pain and I can turn my head. I would highly recommend them to anyone. I feel Dr. Brown and his staff really care about their patients and helping them to get better. They do not just numb the symptoms but fix the problem. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I feel like the old me again!”
- D. Thomas
“My daughter has been treated by Dr. Stack and Dr. Brown for the last 2 1/2 years, and we are very fortunate to have found them. Prior to that she was being treated by a neurologist at a Children’s hospital. She was on medications for tics and associated muscle pain, OCD/repetitive thoughts, sleeplessness and more (all possibly associated with Tourettes). Drs. Stack and Brown installed spacers to alleviate pressure on nerve bundles in the jaw, and subsequently braces to complete the process. Her symptoms have diminished significantly. She is off medication, her tics have all but disappeared, she can concentrate better in school, and she is once again cheerful and relaxed.”
- Susan

Of course, it should always be mentioned that you can use things like Botox and other injectables to mitigate pain, however, our office prefers to fix the actual problem, not just mask it over. Other techniques like arthrocentesis are available. This involves flushing the joints to remove toxins. It does not fix anything, but it likely buys a little more time for those who are not ready to treat the problems.
In the world of TMD (temporomandibular treat the problem, but it must always foremost are an MRI and CBCT x-ray MRI is a magnetic imaging device that joints. This high-tech machine looks images to help with your diagnosis. low-dose radiation to look at the bones teeth, and the condyles. These tools diagnosis and then a plan to help you
Technology has greatly improved over the past decades. There are more and more modalities of treatment offered. The ALF and Gelb are the timehonored, traditional approaches. This appliance therapy has been around since before the 70s. The fix takes time to implement, whereas the injectables are a quick source of pain relief. Ultimately, the patient will decide the technology for their health!
In many cases, the ALF wire is a really will help position the tongue to the roof nasal breathing. It also promotes positioning and better swallowing, you is one reason the ALF is very helpful.

Inspīr Embassy Row redefines senior living in Washington, DC, blending timeless design with modern luxury in one of the city’s most distinguished neighborhoods. The community’s true distinction, however, comes from its approach to care.
While offering a full continuum of care, including assisted living and two distinct levels of memory care, the Inspīr brand recognizes that support is no longer all-or-nothing. More families are finding themselves in the in-between: seeking thoughtful guidance and proactive support without the immediacy of full clinical care.
Through close conversations with residents and their families, careful observation, and a constant pulse-check on industry trends, Inspīr leadership has intentionally designed programs that meet that moment.

Programs that bridge the gap between more traditional care models, while still allowing residents to seamlessly transition into more robust care if needs evolve over time.
Curated for individuals experiencing early memory changes, Inspīr Embassy Row’s new model, Aura, meets that in-between moment with nuance.
Aura provides structure and gentle support while preserving independence and quality of life. Designed for those with more subtle cognitive needs, the program delivers a deeply personalized, research-informed approach that adapts as residents’ abilities and preferences evolve.
Independence remains the priority. Aura empowers residents to remain firmly in control of their future while embracing new opportunities in a community ready to grow with them.

Endodontics is the dental specialty that deals with tissues and structures located inside the tooth. One of the most common endodontic treatments is root canal therapy, a procedure which effectively eases the pain associated with a bacterial infection deep within the pulp of the tooth. Of course, root canal treatment doesn’t just relieve pain – it also stops the infection by removing dead and dying tissue from the tooth’s pulp. Plus, it helps to save the tooth, which is in danger of being lost if left untreated.
What’s inside your teeth? Behind the tough, shiny enamel of the tooth’s visible crown lies the sturdy inner tissue called dentin. Dentin is also found behind the cementum that forms the outer layer of the tooth’s roots – in fact, it makes up the bulk of the tooth’s structure. Similar in many ways to bone tissue, dentin is composed of many tiny tubules, which can transmit sensations to nerve cells when it is stimulated.
At the core of the tooth, inside small, branching chambers called the root canals, we find the soft pulp tissue. This consists of nerves, connective tissues and blood vessels, which extend into the center of the tooth and exit through canals near the apex (tip) of the tooth’s roots. When problems (such as infection and inflammation) develop in the pulp tissue, your first indication of trouble may be tooth sensitivity – or intense pain. In time, as the nerves die, the pain may go away…but the problem won’t. In fact,

If you have an extremely active child you may have seen one or two falls in their day. Although it is true that active kids and teens are more prone to dental and other injuries, there are several precautions that can be taken to prevent or manage these
Infants should not run with a bottle, sippy cup or other objects in their mouth. Children should be discouraged from climbing or jumping from high surfaces such as a tabletop or bed in the home and definitely not left unattended.
Getting your baby or toddler to
eat can sometimes be a challenge. If food is forced into the mouth with a bottle or spoon it is possible to cause damage to the soft developing oral tissues in the mouth. Foods with pointy surfaces such as chips can also cause injury to these tissues if not chewed carefully.

April Toyer, DDS, FAAPD
For older children, mouth guards should be worn while participating in sports. These can be picked up at your local drug store or your dentist can make a custom fit mouth guard.

Kids should wear a helmet during active sports such as football, or high-speed activities such as skateboarding or bike riding.
Children and adults should be careful wearing socks without grips on hardwood floor as these surfaces can often be slippery and lack of traction can cause a possible injury.
Dizziness, vomiting, bleeding from the nose or ears, lapse of memory, disorientation, or signs of fatigue may be an indication that a concussion has occurred. Patients with significant head, neck or facial trauma should be immediately taken to the emergency room to be evaluated.
If your child has extensive bleeding to the lip, gums or cheek area use gauze or a paper towel to apply pressure until the bleeding stops. A cold compress or ice cubes can be placed on the affected area to reduce swelling and relieve pain in some cases.
If a tooth is fractured, check to see if blood is coming from the inside of the tooth. This may indicate nerve exposure and you will need to see your dentist as soon as possible. If a permanent tooth is completely knocked out it should be re-implanted within one hour.
If possible rinse off the tooth with clean water or milk and place it back into the socket. Make sure you only touch the crown (visible part) of the tooth and not the root. If you are unable to re-implant due to pain or blockage store the tooth in milk or cheeks and bring it to the dental office as soon as possible. Your local dentist should evaluate dental injury without significant head or neck trauma. Make sure your child has a dental home that facilitates easy evaluations during a potentially difficult and traumatic time for you and your child.

The sacroiliac joint (also known as the SI joint) is a strong weight bearing joint in the pelvis. There are two in total, one on each side of the pelvis. They connect the base of the spine (sacrum) to the iliac bones on either side of the pelvis. This is not a very mobile joint and its primary purpose is to absorb the stress on the lower back and spine by acting as a shock absorber.
SI joint pain is a challenging condition that affects 15-25% of patients with lower back pain.
Common symptoms of pain in the SI joint include low back pain, pelvis/ buttock pain, lower extremity pain, hip/groin pain, and problems sitting, sleeping, or walking.
Causes of SI joint pain include pregnancy, trauma resulting from injury or accident, arthritic conditions, and prior lower back surgery. SI joint degeneration may occur in up to 75% of the time in patients undergoing lumbar fusion at five years after surgery.
SI joint pain must be considered as a possibility in patients who continue to suffer from back, hip, groin, or leg pain even after back or hip/knee surgery. It is typically diagnosed with a physical exam and an injection in the joint to look for relief in symptoms.
Treatment of SI joint pain typically starts with conservative measures such as physical therapy, chiropractic manipulation, specific exercise programs, and sacroiliac belts. Additionally, oral medications may be

Pain is a common concern among older adults, and for seniors receiving care at home, managing it effectively is essential to maintaining quality of life. While aging often brings physical challenges, pain should not be seen as something that must simply be endured. With attentive caregiving and the right strategies, seniors can remain
comfortable and independent in their own homes.
Chronic pain in seniors is often linked to conditions such as arthritis, back problems, and nerve-related issues. These can lead to ongoing discomfort that affects mobility, sleep, and mood. In a home care setting, recognizing pain early is especially important, as untreated discomfort can reduce activity levels and increase the risk of falls or further health complications.
One challenge is that pain may not always be clearly expressed. Some seniors may minimize their discomfort, while others may have difficulty communicating it. Caregivers should watch for signs such as changes in behavior, reduced movement, or trouble sleeping. Regular communication helps ensure pain is identified and addressed promptly.

If you snore, wake up exhausted, or have been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea, you may think your only treatment options are CPAP therapy or surgery. While both can be effective, they often focus on manag-
ing symptoms rather than addressing the underlying cause. In many cases, sleep-disordered breathing is related to limited space in the mouth and airway.
The Vivos DNA appliance offers a different approach. This custom oral appliance is designed to support upper jaw development and create more room for the tongue and airway. The goal is to support healthier breathing, better sleep, and improved airway function over time.
What Is the Vivos DNA Appliance
The Vivos DNA appliance, or Daytime-Nighttime Appliance, is a removable device similar to an orthodontic retainer. It is custom made to fit your mouth and worn for a prescribed number of hours during the day and night.
Unlike traditional oral appliances

At Fairlington Dental, we understand the connection between a healthy smile and a healthy body. As a result, we look at the whole person to discover the reasons a patient may have gum disease or a bad bite. A number of studies link heart disease and other serious conditions to the presence of periodontal (gum) disease. This research makes it vital that we take a Complete Health approach to your dental care. Dr. Rogers will listen to you, conduct a careful assessment, and carefully explain your proposed customized wellness plan. He will then take the time to answer all of your questions. You become a partner in your oral health goals!
Our team has mastered the techniques of gentle dentistry and is skilled at helping patients with any level of apprehension relax and grow comfortable with visiting the dentist. Anxiety and tension have a variety of sources, so it’s important for us to listen to your concerns as well as your goals and history. Then we address your anxieties and proceed with gentle treatment only when you’re ready. We deliver all of this in an office that is environmentally aware, while you enjoy a variety of spa-like amenities during your visit. One of our greatest joys is helping patients smile again, especially those who may not have seen a dentist in a while. You’ll be amazed at how the quality of life can change! We strive to create a partnership with you that starts the moment you walk through our door.

Regardless of which treatments you are undergoing, it can always be helpful to understand your health condition before you start a selfconditioning program. If you are currently under treatment, the following information can act as an adjunct, or as a primary means, to help manage your back or neck condition. People often report that such techniques are very helpful in reducing pain.
Of course, the first step in coping with back pain or neck pain is always to get a comprehensive evaluation for a diagnosis by your chiropractor or medical doctor, as pain is often
a warning signal that something is wrong and needs attention.
Whatever your condition, there are a number of methods to help cope with the pain. All of these techniques make use of four types of skills, including deep muscle relaxation, distracting your attention away from pain signals, thinking about images or sounds that feel pleasant to you, and attaining detachment and distance.
Although no single stretch works for everyone, most people spend most of their days in the same positions doing the same or similar activities. Studies have shown that people who go through a proper stretching program just twice a week for eight weeks make significant gains in strength, flexibility, and endurance, which is an essential part of most back pain treatment programs.
Good nutrition can aid your healing process. Your diet should

include adequate protein as a source of the building blocks of soft tissue healing. Additionally, fresh fruit and vegetables supply the vitamins and trace elements necessary for effective healing. A vitamin supplement can also be very helpful.
Sleep is also important for the body to heal. One of the best ways to help you sleep soundly is to create physical weariness through active exercise.

For many unfortunate sufferers, low back and neck pain can be very debilitating. If left untreated, chronic back and neck conditions could result possibly making surgery the only treatment option. As with many physical conditions, the sooner the problem can be diagnosed and treated, the less time may be needed to treat and correct the problem. If you are having chronic back or neck problems, get yourself evaluated. Discuss the options for treatment with your chiropractor or medical doctor, and be pro-active with your health.

Implants will improve digestion because you will be able to chew better, stronger and safely. Choking is still a leading cause of death in the U.S.A. You will be able to eat, just like when you had teeth
In the long run dental implants are easier on your pocketbook. When you compare the day to day cost of dental implant treatment versus sometimes questionable root canals, replacing crowns, replacing bridges and performing periodontal treatment on questionable teeth, it is many times more cost efficient to use dental implants. With implants the buck usually stops there. You do have to take care of your investment with regular dental visits, brushing and flossing.
Implants are used to replace many parts of the human body and they are accepted because they are made of biocompatible materials, which mean friendly to the body.
Implants are good for your selfesteem and give you a major change in life style. Youngsters may worry about losing their teeth but adults should not. You can go out in public, eat a steak, bite into an apple, sing, and have a regular life. I have had patients tell me that they felt embarrassed because
their grandchildren laughed at their teeth or they avoided dating or the simple pleasure of kissing or seeking a job promotion because of their teeth or dentures. This can change – and for the better.
Implants are used to replace many parts of the human body and they are accepted because they are made of biocompatible materials, which mean friendly to the body. I have been placing and restoring dental implants
for 21 years and have rarely seen any implant related health problems. The problems, if any, are related to how the patient maintains the implants.
In summary, implants offer these major health advantages: they enable you to chew your food properly and have a healthy digestion and nutrition; they can even help you live longer; they prevent further bone and gum shrinkage; and implants also eliminate the psychological issues associated
with wearing dentures and partials. However, I will state this, the Mayo Clinic did a study some time ago and found that people without teeth, live on the average, 5 years less than those with teeth. Dental implants are also used to support remaining natural teeth and bridges and anchor dentures. These are some of the advantages of dental implants. So, can you imagine a life without dentures?
1. Have You Lost One or More of Your Teeth?
2. Are You Embarrassed by Your Smile or Missing Teeth?
3. Are You Tired of the Daily Hassles of Denture Wear?
4. Do You Have Bone Loss Where Teeth Were Pulled?
5. Do You Have Pain of Discomfort When Chewing?
Implants Replace Missing Teeth for Young and Old. Nearly Everyone Is a Good Candidate for Dental Implants AND There are Hardly Any Medical Problems and Prevent You from Having Dental Implant Treatments.

If you are missing teeth, dental implants could change your life. These small, biocompatible posts are inserted directly into the upper or lower jaw, and they can support a permanent crown, bridge, or denture. E. Richard Hughes, DDS is an expert on dental implants. He will make sure your implants are optimally placed and restored, and he can provide outstanding results efficiently and affordably.

DENTAL IMPLANT CANDIDACY
Determining whether a patient is a good candidate for dental implants is an important part of the treatment process. Several factors are evaluated, including oral health, bone density, gum condition, and overall medical history. Candidates should have healthy teeth
soften and relax into a more functional position. Furthermore, treatment with BabyLase technology offers additional benefits including the reduction of discomfort and inflammation, as well as stimulation of natural blood flow and the nervous system – all of which aid in comprehensive wholehealth healing and re-integration of the treated tissue.

and gums free from active infections, severe decay, or untreated gum disease. Healthy gums are essential because they support the implant and help ensure long-term success. Adequate jawbone density is also necessary since the implant relies on the bone for stability. Bone loss caused by missing teeth or periodontal disease may require procedures such as bone grafting to rebuild the area before implant placement. Medical conditions and lifestyle habits can also affect candidacy. Conditions such as uncontrolled diabetes or smoking may interfere with healing and increase the risk of implant complications. During the evaluation process, digital imaging and a full examination help determine the best treatment plan. In many cases, dental implants can successfully restore the appearance, function, and confidence of a healthy smile.

Modern digital scanning technology makes it easier than ever to explore potential smile improvements.
With a simple scan, patients can often see a visual representation of how small adjustments could affect their smile. This

helps remove uncertainty and allows patients to better understand what may be possible before making any decisions. Technology like this helps create a more comfortable, informed experience when exploring treatment options.

Malocclusion is the number one reason people seek orthodontic treatment. There are many different forms of malocclusion, such as:
• Crowding: Crowding can cause poor jaw alignment, impacted teeth, or teeth growing behind or in front of one another, resulting in poor biting relationships and undesirable appearance. Crowding only gets worse over time. Crowded teeth are harder to clean then straight teeth, which may lead to cavities and tooth decay.
• Overjet Or Protruding Upper Teeth: When the upper front teeth

• Deep Overbite: A deep overbite or deep bite occurs when the lower incisor (front) teeth bite too close or into the gum tissue behind the upper teeth. A deep bite can contribute to excessive wear of the incisor teeth, bone and gum tissue damage.
• Open Bite: An open bite results when the upper and lower incisor teeth do not touch when biting down. This open space causes all the chewing pressure to be placed on the back teeth. This excessive biting pressure and rubbing together of the back teeth makes chewing less efficient which can lead to digestive problems and significant tooth wear.
• Spacing: Spacing is too much room between the teeth. Spacing can occur if teeth are missing, small, or if the
dental arches are wide. The most common complaint from patients with excessive spacing is cosmetic. Closure of dental spacing not only improves the look of the front teeth but it also prevents “food traps” from developing between the back teeth.
• Crossbite: A crossbite exists when the upper teeth in the back are fitting on the inside of the lower teeth. This is often caused by the upper jaw being too narrow. Correction of this situation is important at a young age so that the upper jaw continues to grow properly. Expanders are usually used to correct this, and give excellent results.
• Underbite Or Lower Jaw Protrusion: An underbite exists when the top front teeth are hitting behind the bottom front teeth. Underbites are best treated at a young age so that the upper jaw continues to grow properly. Orthodontic treatment is a viable option to correct these malocclusions. If you think, you or your child has developed any of these bite problems, now is the time to start looking for orthodontists.

When it comes to your child’s dental development, early intervention can make a lifetime of difference. One of the most innovative tools used by airway-focused dentists and orthodontists is the ALF (Advanced Lightwire Functional) appliance – a gentle, growth-guidance appliance that helps the body achieve natural balance and healthy development.
The ALF is not an expander. Traditional expanders mechanically widen the palate, but the ALF works in harmony with the body’s own growth patterns. It is a growth-guidance appliance designed to facilitate natural development by gently assisting the tongue in moving the bones of the skull, allowing growth to occur the way nature intended.
The ALF acts almost like a “surrogate tongue,” allowing the brain to redirect resources for growth through functional swallowing, nasal breathing, and a nervous-system reset. Because it is so delicate and precise, the ALF requires meticulous training and expertise to use correctly – its effectiveness depends on the practitioner’s deep understanding of oral-facial development and the connection between posture, airway, and overall health.
The ALF philosophy views the mouth as part of the body’s larger postural and functional system. By supporting balanced growth, proper tongue position, and healthy airway development, this gentle form of growth guidance can positively influence a child’s overall well-being – from sleep and focus to confidence and comfort.
Children who breathe well, sleep well, and swallow properly often experience improvements not just in their dental health but in behavior, learning, and physical comfort as well.
Although orthodontic guidelines often suggest evaluation by age 7, many airway-focused providers em-
phasize that for certain growth and airway issues, that may already be too late.
Signs of improper jaw development can appear as early as infancy –even within the first few days of life. Babies and toddlers who show trouble latching, snoring, mouth breathing, restless sleep, difficulty eating solid foods, teeth grinding, frequent
ear infections, or speech issues may already be exhibiting early indicators that the jaws and airway are not developing correctly.
If you notice these signs, it’s important to consult a knowledgeable, airway-focused provider who can evaluate your child’s growth patterns and guide proper jaw and brain development. Early detection and pro-
active, collaborative intervention allow for gentler, holistic treatment and the best long-term outcomes.
Healthy Growth Creates Healthy Smiles – and Healthy Lives.
Ask your pediatric or airwayfocused dentist whether your child might benefit from early evaluation or growth-guidance therapy with the ALF approach.

physical therapists understand the many faces of pelvic pain and provide effective conservative treatments that provide relief for those suffering with pelvic pain.
Pelvic pain can present itself as pain with sexual intercourse, bladder and bowel pain, killer pain associated with menstrual periods, pelvic girdle, groin, vaginal, rectal and perineal pain.
There are multiple sources of pelvic pain. It can originate from the pelvic or abdominal organs, muscles, joints, fascia, spine, and hips.
Pelvic pain can lead to muscle spasms in the pelvic floor muscles.
and tight or the opposite can occur, the pelvic floor muscles can become weak. Both non-relaxing and weak pelvic floor muscles can be a major contributor of pelvic pain.
Here’s a list of the most common diagnoses associated with pelvic pain:
• Dyspareunia: This is pain associated with vaginal penetration during sexual intercourse. It often occurs after pregnancy at three months postpartum or it can be associated with endometriosis, menopause, and other conditions.
• Interstitial Cystitis: Also known as painful bladder syndrome, this is defined as chronic pelvic pain

(lasting greater than 6 months), pressure or discomfort perceived to be related to the urinary bladder and accompanied by at least one other urinary symptom such as increased urinary urge or frequency.
• Levator Ani Syndrome: When the levator ani deep muscles don’t relax, constant or frequent pain in the rectum or anus is experienced.
• Vulvodynia: This is pain or discomfort at the vulva lasting greater than three months that usually presents as burning pain.
• Pelvic Floor Dysfunction: The function of pelvic floor muscles is to support the pelvic organs, prevent incontinence, allow for ease of defecation and urination and they provide a sexual function. Pelvic floor dysfunction can cause constipation, painful sexual intercourse, pelvic organ prolapse, urinary frequency, chronic pelvic pain and both urinary and fecal incontinence.
• Endometriosis: This is a common condition that causes chronic pelvic and/or abdominal pain and very painful periods. One in 10 women suffer from this condition however most women see eight doctors over 10 years before getting diagnosed. This is a complex condition and the symptoms vary.
• Vaginismus: This is instantaneous and involuntary tightening of the pelvic floor muscles in anticipation of vaginal penetration causing the inability to participate in sexual intercourse.
A pelvic health physical therapist will provide a thorough subjective and objective evaluation and develop a treatment program specific to your problems and goals. Treatments may include one or more of the following:
• Manual therapy – internal and external techniques
• Visceral mobilization
• Therapeutic Exercises
• Neuro-muscular reeducation
• Specific functional training
• EMG biofeedback
• Electric stimulation
Many women and men with chronic pelvic floor problems have never been treated by a pelvic health physical therapist. Don’t suffer in silence – contact a provider who has experience treating these conditions and get the help you need.

Whether you enjoy walking, golfing, traveling, or participating in fitness classes, healthy feet are essential for maintaining an active lifestyle. Understanding the causes of foot pain –and how to manage it – can help you stay comfortable and on the move.
Foot pain is a common concern among active aging adults, and it can significantly impact mobility, balance, and overall quality of life.
As we age, the structures of the feet naturally change. The fat pads that cushion the soles may thin, ligaments can lose elasticity, and joints
often become stiffer due to years of use. These changes can lead to common conditions such as plantar fasciitis, arthritis, bunions, hammertoes, and tendonitis. In addition, long-term wear and tear, previous injuries, improper footwear, or underlying medical conditions like diabetes and poor circulation can contribute to ongoing discomfort.

and caring attention to all our patients, so make sure to pay us a visit if you need any help with foot problems, discomfort, diabetic foot problems or pain.
From the moment you step into our practice, you will be greeted by a friendly and welcoming staff who make sure your appointments are on time and well organized for your convenience. We truly care about your wellbeing, which is why we make sure to listen to you and take a full patient’s history before approaching any course of treatment or diagnostic. Our feet are what keeps us going steady through life, and any issue with them can bring about a lot of pain and discomfort. We ensure your recovery and recuperation is done smoothly!
of foot pain in active adults is plantar fasciitis, which involves inflammation of the thick band of tissue that runs along the bottom of the foot. This condition typically causes sharp heel pain, especially with the first steps in the morning or after periods of rest. Arthritis is another common issue, often leading to stiffness, swelling, and reduced flexibility in the foot and ankle joints. Structural changes such as flat feet or high arches can also affect how weight is distributed, increasing strain on certain areas of the foot.
Footwear plays a critical role in both the development and prevention of foot pain. Shoes that lack proper support, cushioning, or fit can worsen existing problems or create new ones. Active aging adults should choose shoes with strong arch support, adequate cushioning, and a wide toe box to reduce pressure on sensitive areas. Replacing worn-out shoes regularly is also important. In many cases, custom orthotics or high-quality overthe-counter inserts can help improve alignment, relieve pressure, and enhance overall comfort.
Maintaining foot strength and flexibility is equally important for preventing pain and injury. Simple daily exercises – such as stretching the calves and Achilles tendon, rolling the foot over a tennis ball, or picking up small objects with the toes – can improve circulation, increase flexibility, and reduce stiffness. Lowimpact activities like swimming, cycling, and yoga can also help keep joints mobile without placing excessive stress on the feet.
It’s important not to ignore persistent or worsening foot pain. Early evaluation by a podiatrist or healthcare provider can prevent minor issues from progressing into more serious conditions. Treatment options may include physical therapy, orthotics, anti-inflammatory medications, or, in some cases, minimally invasive procedures.

Proper foot care is especially critical for individuals with diabetes or circulation issues, as they may be at higher risk for complications such as infections or ulcers.
Foot pain doesn’t have to slow you down. With supportive footwear, regular exercise, and proactive care, active aging adults can continue to enjoy the activities they love – comfortably, safely, and confidently.

Managing pain at home typically involves a combination of approaches. Medications may be used but should be carefully monitored. Non-drug methods are also highly effective. Gentle physical activity, such as walking or stretching, can improve mobility and reduce stiffness. Physical therapy exercises may further support strength and joint health.
Comfort-focused strategies can make a meaningful difference. Supportive furniture, proper positioning, and the use of heat or cold therapy can help ease discomfort. Arranging the home so essential items are within easy reach can also reduce strain and prevent unnecessary movement.
Emotional well-being plays a key role in how pain is experienced. Feelings of isolation or anxiety can intensify discomfort. Encouraging social interaction
if left untreated, the end result may be tooth loss.
What could cause the pulp tissue to become diseased and lead to root canal problems? One potential source of infection is untreated tooth decay, which can allow bacteria from the tooth’s surface to work its way deep inside. A crack or fracture in a tooth could offer another pathway for microorganisms to infect the pulp.
Dental trauma – from a sports injury, for example – may also damage dentin or pulp, or expose it to infection. Extensive dental procedures
streamlined into one efficient appointment.
The process begins with digital scanning instead of traditional messy impression materials. Using a small handheld camera, the dentist captures highly detailed images of the tooth and surrounding area. Specialized software then creates a precise 3D model, allowing the dentist to design a custom crown that fits comfortably and blends naturally with the patient’s smile.
Once the design is complete, the crown is fabricated on-site using a computerized milling machine that carves the restoration from a strong ceramic block. In many cases, the crown can be created in less than an hour. After final adjustments and polishing, the crown is permanently bonded into place the very same day.
One of the biggest advantages of CEREC same-day crowns is conve-

and providing emotional support can improve both mood and pain tolerance. Simple relaxation techniques, such as deep breathing or listening to calming music, may also help.
Safety is another important factor. Preventing falls and injuries is critical, as these can worsen pain. Home modifications like removing tripping hazards, adding grab bars, and improving lighting can create a safer environment. Assistive devices, such as canes or walkers, can further support mobility.
In conclusion, pain management is a vital part of senior care at home. With a personalized approach that includes medical care, lifestyle adjustments, and emotional support, seniors can maintain comfort, safety, and independence while continuing to live in familiar surroundings.

(such as multiple fillings or restorations on the same tooth) may cause trouble; occasionally, even routine procedures like orthodontics may eventually lead to root canal problems.
The old gag line “I’d rather have a root canal” may still get a laugh — but root canal problems are no joke. It’s important to remember that root canal treatment doesn’t cause pain; it relieves pain. A typical root canal procedure is performed with local anesthetics, and doesn’t cause any more discomfort than having a filling.

nience. Patients save time by avoiding multiple appointments and do not have to deal with temporary crowns that may loosen or break. The digital technology also provides exceptional accuracy, helping ensure a comfortable fit and long-lasting restoration.
CEREC crowns are designed to look and feel like natural teeth. The ceramic materials used closely mimic the appearance of natural enamel, making them an excellent option for restoring both function and aesthetics.
Modern dental technology continues to improve the patient experience, and CEREC same-day crowns are an excellent example of how dentistry has become faster, more comfortable, and more efficient. For patients with damaged or weakened teeth, same-day crowns offer a durable, attractive solution that can restore confidence and oral health in just one visit.
used as well as therapeutic injections that may provide some patients with a temporary relief of pain.
Surgical intervention may be considered after non-surgical interventions have failed to provide a significant amount of patient symptom relief. Sacroiliac joint fusion provides stabilization of the joint and eliminates motion in the joint, typically providing long-term pain relief for patients.

that simply reposition the lower jaw during sleep, the DNA appliance is designed to encourage gradual development of the upper jaw and surrounding structures. As the palate broadens and the dental arches develop, there may be more room for the tongue and improved support for the airway during sleep.
Rather than focusing only on symptom management, this approach is intended to support healthier airway function by improving the structure of the mouth and jaws.

SI fusion. One procedure called, “Si Join” consists of three allograft (bone) implants placed at opposing angles to increase SI joint stability. The procedure is performed through three small incisions in the lower back, resulting in lower surgical trauma, reduced blood loss, shorter surgery times, faster recovery, and lower risk of injury to nerves.

the nasal cavity and plays an important role in the amount of space available for the tongue and airway. When the palate is narrow, it can contribute to mouth breathing, snoring, crowded teeth, and reduced airway volume.
The Vivos DNA appliance uses light, intermittent forces intended to encourage gradual adaptation over time. As treatment progresses, patients may experience:

preferences and individualized support, Aura staff are trained to thoughtfully monitor changes over time, documenting subtle shifts that may indicate a need for additional support. That doesn’t mean residents’ individuality is overlooked. Quite the opposite. Aura is designed to keep residents’ histories, interests, and routines central to daily life, from favorite outings and familiar meals to the experiences that continue to bring joy and comfort.
This kind of middle-tier support remains rare in senior living, despite growing demand. Many communities still require families to choose between “not enough” and “too much,” leaving residents either under-supported or prematurely placed into higher levels of care. It’s an outdated model, increasingly out of step with what is known about aging and brain health.
Inspīr’s Chief Clinical Officer, Tino Popescu, explains that “while the population of older adults experiencing mild cognitive impairment or early memory changes continues to grow, conversations around cognitive aging are still largely framed as binary.” Popescu, alongside Inspīr leadership,

hopes to alleviate that systemic mismatch through programs like Aura. And this is only the beginning.
These thoughtful, in-between care models will continue to evolve across Inspīr communities through ongoing observation, clinical oversight, and continued dialogue with residents and families.
“Aura is just one step in the right direction,” says Popescu. “Delivering just-right care is an evolving process, and we’re ready to develop better support for our residents and their families whenever we need to.”

A neck lift can be performed for men and women of varying ages who are often frustrated by changes of the appearance of their neck and jawline. Depending on your age, a neck lift can be a short one-hour procedure to remove fat or a 3-hour procedure to remove fat, visible neck bands, and excess skin.
Remove Excess Skin (Cervicoplasty)
Liposuction to Remove Excess Fat
Remove or Alter Neck Muscles (Platysmaplasty)
Liposuction can be performed alone or with surgical removal of the fat under the chin through a small incision under the chin.
In patients with vertical bands in the neck, a platysmaplasty can be performed to reduce the appearance of the bands.
Sometimes a chin implant is recommended to improve the overall contour and help with excess skin.
