MEMORANDUM To: Dr. Marcus Campbell, Superintendent From: Lauren Hamilton, Equity Analyst and Ganae Mcalpin-Toney, Director of Equity Subject: Transformation for Racial Equity: The Social Consciousness Series and District-Wide Work Date: Monday, June 12, 2023 In commitment to equity transformation, Evanston Township High School hosts an annual Social Consciousness Series. This school-wide series includes four affinity-based student summits, as well as a set of programming that centers the intersectional experiences of students with disabilities. The mission of the Social Consciousness Series is to provide space for students to strengthen connections amongst themselves, ETHS educators, and the greater Evanston community while inviting critical reflection to support healthy identity development. These events are organized in intergenerational partnership between students and educators. This report includes attendance data and highlights from each event in this year’s series. Also summarized in this report are some highlights from the ongoing adaptive work facilitated and supported by the Director of Equity, Equity Analyst, and Assistant/Superintendent Principal. This work aligns with district goals of providing an equitable and excellent learning environment to all students while increasing a sense of belonging. Its scope involves continued investment in staff and student affinity groups, feedback mechanisms, and antiracist professional development.
