CAN YOU RECOMMEND THE MOST SCENIC ROUTE TO GET TO MY DESTINATION?
We’re always advocates of taking the scenic route! With so much to see from the train windows on all our rail vacations, you’re in for a treat. If there’s a different route you could take for some extra special scenery, we’ll be excited to let you know!
CAN I TAKE A RAIL VACATION THAT YOU OFFER IN REVERSE?
Yes! We can offer a reverse option on any of our itineraries. If you are already planned to be in one destination and would like to visit cities on one of our packages in a different order or start/finish in a different location, please call us and speak with a Rail Expert.
CAN I UPGRADE TO FIRST-CLASS RAIL ON SOME OR EVEN ALL OF MY TRAIN JOURNEYS?
You certainly can. We know that many of our clients like to upgrade some or all of their train journeys to first-class. Upgrading will give you a larger seat, more legroom and even a meal and drinks on certain routes. To find out more, please speak with one of our Rail Experts who will tell you the advantages of first class on your specific route.
WHERE ARE YOUR HOTELS LOCATED?
Our hotels are centrally located within each city we offer. Most are within a short distance of local sights and/or your railway stations.
HOW MUCH LUGGAGE CAN I BRING?
In general, each passenger can take two items of luggage plus one personal item. There are no weight restrictions - just remember you’ll need to carry everything!
WHEN WILL I RECEIVE MY TRAVEL DOCUMENTS?
AM I ABLE TO TRAVEL ON MY CHOICE OF DATES?
There are no set departure dates with our vacations, with the exception of private train journeys such as the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express. Most trains will run every day, which means our vacations do too!
CAN I CHOOSE MY TRAIN TIMES?
Our packages don’t have set departure times, and if there is a train running when there are multiple trains a day, your Rail Expert will be able to talk you through the different departures. If there’s a particularly convenient time or a departure that will ensure you catch the best scenery, we’ll be sure to recommend it.
HOW LONG BEFORE THE TRAIN DEPARTS SHOULD I BE AT THE STATION?
With the exception of Eurostar, which has a 45-minute check-in time, there is no official checkin required for train journeys in Europe or North America. Of course, we always recommend arriving at the station in plenty of time.
After we receive full payment, travel documents will be sent to you approximately 21 days prior to your departure.
CAN I ADD ON ADDITIONAL SIGHTSEEING OR ADDITIONAL HOTEL NIGHTS?
Yes, you can add additional sightseeing activities and/or hotel nights to most existing rail vacation packages we offer. When you speak with a Rail Expert, request an explanation of the upgrade options to your vacation package as you wish. Additional charges may apply.

DAY 1: MILAN

Welcome to Milan! On arrival, check in at your hotel for an overnight stay. Famed for its sophisticated fashion, opulent architecture and trademark dishes of Lombardy and northern Italy, Milan has something to offer for every traveler. Be sure to visit the Gothic Duomo di Milano, the city’s crowning glory and a magnificent spectacle! Also pay a visit to the Santa Maria delle Grazie convent, home of ‘The Last Supper’, Leonardo da Vinci’s famous masterpiece. Stroll through the Brera district and enjoy the art galleries, boutique shopping opportunities, and exquisite dining.
After breakfast, take the short hop to Interlaken where you will use your Swiss Pass to board the historic railway line to Europe’s highest railway station, at 3,454 meters above sea level. The Jungfrau Mountain is sandwiched between the huge peaks of the Monch and Eiger Mountains, and the Jungfrau railway line runs the final 9km in a tunnel through these two mountains from where you can still enjoy the spectacular views through windows built into the mountainside. Once you reach the top, marvel in awe at the amazing view which on a clear day can be as far as the Black Forest of Germany and France. On your way back down the mountain, the route takes you through the village of Lauterbrunnen from where you get a good view of a gorgeous waterfall. Upon your return, enjoy your final evening in Interlaken.
DAY 2: MILAN TO ST. MORITZ After breakfast this morning, take the train from Milan to Tirano, then board the famed Bernina Line of the Bernina Express to St. Moritz. Enjoy beautiful valley and mountain views from the panoramic sightseeing cars on this epic route that runs over the Bernina Pass. Once to St. Moritz, check in at your hotel for a two-night stay and begin exploring this classic resort town with a distinct belle époque ambience. Here, you’ll also pick up your Engadin Card (May-Oct only) which includes free use of all local cable-cars and mountain railways throughout your stay.
DAY 3: ST. MORITZ Make use of your Engadin card today with a ride on the local funicular and cable-car to Piz Nair (MayOct only). This mountain peak rewards all visitors with some spectacular views of Graubünden and beyond. If you’d rather simply relax and enjoy the town, spend some time strolling around the gorgeous lake, or dining in one of the many restaurants, or grabbing high tea in the lobby at Badrutt’s Palace Hotel, visit the Kulm Country Club and Segantini Museum, shop along Via Serlas, or try your luck at the St Mortiz Casino.
DAY 4: ST. MORITZ TO ZERMATT Today, enjoy the full splendour of one of Switzerland’s most famous journeys, The Glacier Express. Early in the journey the train cruises over the impressive Landwasser Viaduct, which is a marvel of Swiss engineering from a bygone era. This train is otherwise known as the slowest express train in the world, and winds its way over numerous high passes and meanders past many small Swiss lakes and villages until pulling into Zermatt nearly 8 hours after departure.
DAY 5: ZERMATT Today, take an exciting ride on the Gornergrat cog railway, which climbs from 1,604 metres above sea level to 3,090 metres in just 33 minutes, and is a marvel of 19th century engineering. From the top, take in one of the most spectacular panoramas in all of Switzerland with the iconic outline of the Matterhorn as well as the surrounding peaks and glaciers all around you. You might be lucky enough to spot a Chamois or Marmot during your visit, and enjoy a stroll through the nature reserve and maybe even enjoy a fondue. Take the same route back down to Zermatt where you can enjoy the numerous small bars and restaurants on the car free roads of this beautiful village.

DAY 8: INTERLAKEN TO LUCERNE Take the scenic, short train ride from the Interlaken Ost Station to Lucerne. After getting settled, begin exploring all this stunning Central Switzerland city has to offer. The medieval Chapel Bridge is a great place to start as it is considered to be one of the oldest, covered wooden bridges in Europe. Lucerne is also full of picturesque town squares where you can relax, indulge in some Swiss delicacies, and soak in the Swiss culture.
DAY 9: LUCERNE Today, enjoy a trip to the top of the steepest cogwheel railway in the world. First enjoy a scenic hours’ steam cruise on Lake Lucerne to Alpnachstad where you then take the 30-minute ride which has an average gradient of 35%. At the top you’ll find the historic Pilatus Kulm Hotel and restaurant where you can enjoy refreshments or you can enjoy one of the numerous walking trails, but beware of the legendary dragon who has magical healing powers and lives in the mountain. After soaking up the wonderful views, make your way back down the mountain massif via the jaw dropping gondola and cable car to Kriens and a short bus ride to Lucerne.

There’s a gift shop and restaurant for lunch at the top, and between May and October you may even have the chance to take a stroll with a St Bernard dog, synonymous with the area. DAY 1: YOUR JOURNEY BEGINS IN ZURICH Arrive at Zurich Airport and take the included train to the city center. Check in to your hotel for a six-night stay and enjoy the remainder of the day at your leisure, perhaps strolling the lakeside promenade or exploring the Old Town.
DAY 2: ZURICH TOUR WITH LAKE CRUISE AND LINDT HOME OF CHOCOLATE Discover the highlights of Zurich today on a small group sightseeing tour. Enjoy a guided walk through the historic center, take a panoramic coach ride through the city, and relax on a scenic lake cruise. End your tour with a visit to the Lindt Home of Chocolate, where you’ll explore interactive exhibits—and taste a few samples too!
DAY 3: DAY TRIP TO LUCERNE AND MOUNT PILATUS Travel by train to picturesque Lucerne, nestled between mountains and lake. From here, enjoy the included journey up Mount Pilatus, via the world’s steepest cogwheel railway (operates mid-May to late November) or by cable car in winter. After time at the summit, descend and return to Zurich by rail.
DAY 4: DAY TRIP TO BERN BY TRAIN Take the train to Switzerland’s capital, Bern. Wander its medieval old town, admire the famous Zytglogge clock tower, and stroll the arcaded streets. Don’t miss the Bear Park or River Aare views before heading back to Zurich.
DAY 5: DAY TRIP TO RAPPERSWIL BY TRAIN Today, enjoy a relaxing visit to Rapperswil, known for its rose gardens and lakeside charm. Travel there by train, or if visiting in summer, opt for a scenic boat cruise across Lake Zurich (subject to seasonal availability). Return to Zurich for the evening.
DAY 6: DAY TRIP TO SCHAFFHAUSEN AND RHINE FALLS Board a train to Schaffhausen, a town of painted facades and rich history. From here, continue by short local train to Rhine Falls—the largest waterfall in Europe. Marvel at the cascading waters before returning to Zurich.

DAY 1: YOUR JOURNEY BEGINS IN INTERLAKEN Arrive in Zurich and take the included train to Interlaken. Travel through rolling countryside and along sparkling lakes before reaching your hotel in the heart of the Bernese Oberland. Check in for a six-night stay and enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure.
DAY 2: DAY TRIP TO MEIRINGEN Today, board a regional train east along Lake Brienz to the alpine village of Meiringen. Famous for its waterfalls, Sherlock Holmes heritage, and the invention of meringue, Meiringen is perfect for independent exploration. Spend as much time as you wish before returning to Interlaken. In the evening, take the short Harder Kulm furnicular to the top of the mountain for dinner with spectacular views across the valley.
DAY 3: DAY TRIP TO JUNGFRAUJOCH VIA LAUTERBRUNNEN AND EIGER EXPRESS Embark on an unforgettable journey to the “Top of Europe.” Travel by train to Lauterbrunnen and ascend through the mountain village Kleine Scheidegg to Jungfraujoch—Europe’s highest railway station. Enjoy time to explore the Ice Palace, observation decks, and glacier views. Descend via
the Eiger Express cable car to Grindelwald, and return to Interlaken by train.
DAY 4: SCENIC DAY TRIP TO LUCERNE AND MOUNT RIGI Take an early train to Lucerne along one of Switzerland’s most scenic rail routes, passing lakes and dramatic mountain backdrops. From Lucerne, enjoy a scenic cruise across Lake Lucerne to Vitznau, then board the cogwheel train up Mount Rigi. Spend free time at the summit, taking in panoramic views or walking easy trails. Descend to Arth-Goldau in the afternoon and return to Interlaken via Lucerne.
DAY 6: DAY TRIP TO WENGEN, MANNLICHEN, AND GRINDELWALD Travel to the charming village of Wengen and ride the Männlichen cable car up to a sweeping ridge with stunning views of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau. Explore short alpine trails at your leisure, then descend by gondola to Grindelwald. Enjoy some free time before returning to Interlaken by train.

DAY 5: DAY TRIP TO SCHILTHORN AND MÜRREN Today, travel to Lauterbrunnen and ascend into the mountains via rail and cable car to reach Mürren—a peaceful, car-free alpine village offering breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks. Continue your journey aboard the Schilthornbahn, the steepest cable car in the world, to reach the summit of Schilthorn. At the top, take in sweeping 360-degree views over the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau, and dine or relax at the revolving Piz Gloria restaurant. Enjoy time to explore at your own pace before descending through Mürren and returning to Interlaken.
