CAN YOU RECOMMEND THE MOST SCENIC ROUTE TO GET TO MY DESTINATION?
We’re always advocates of taking the scenic route! With so much to see from the train windows on all our rail holidays, you’re in for a treat. If there’s a different route you could take for some extra special scenery, we’ll be excited to let you know!
CAN I TAKE A RAIL HOLIDAY THAT YOU OFFER IN REVERSE?
Yes! We can offer a reverse option on any of our itineraries. If you are already planned to be in one destination and would like to visit cities on one of our packages in a different order or start/finish in a different location, please call us and speak with a Rail Expert.
CAN I UPGRADE TO FIRST-CLASS RAIL ON SOME OR EVEN ALL OF MY TRAIN JOURNEYS?
You certainly can. We know that many of our customers like to upgrade some or all of their train journeys to first-class. Upgrading will give you a larger seat, more legroom and even a meal and drinks on certain routes. To find out more, please speak with one of our Rail Experts who will tell you the advantages of first class on your specific route.
WHERE ARE YOUR HOTELS LOCATED?
Our hotels are centrally located within each city we offer. Most are within a short distance of local sights and/or your railway stations.
HOW MUCH LUGGAGE CAN I BRING?
In general, each passenger can take two items of luggage plus one personal item. There are no weight restrictions - just remember you’ll need to carry everything!
WHEN WILL I RECEIVE MY TRAVEL DOCUMENTS?
AM I ABLE TO TRAVEL ON MY CHOICE OF DATES?
There are no set departure dates with our holidays, with the exception of private train journeys such as the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express. Most trains will run every day, which means our holidays do too!
CAN I CHOOSE MY TRAIN TIMES?
Our packages don’t have set departure times, and if there is a train running when there are multiple trains a day, your Rail Expert will be able to talk you through the different departures. If there’s a particularly convenient time or a departure that will ensure you catch the best scenery, we’ll be sure to recommend it.
HOW LONG BEFORE THE TRAIN DEPARTS SHOULD I BE AT THE STATION?
With the exception of Eurostar, which has a 45-minute check-in time, there is no official checkin required for train journeys in Europe or North America. Of course, we always recommend arriving at the station in plenty of time.
After we receive full payment, travel documents will be sent to you approximately 21 days prior to your departure.
CAN I ADD ON ADDITIONAL SIGHTSEEING OR ADDITIONAL HOTEL NIGHTS?
Yes, you can add additional sightseeing activities and/or hotel nights to most existing rail holiday packages we offer. When you speak with a Rail Expert, request an explanation of the upgrade options to your holiday package as you wish. Additional charges may apply.

DAY 1: ARRIVE IN MALAGA Depart from the UK for your flight to Malaga, your gateway to Andalucia. On arrival in Malaga, check in at your hotel for an overnight stay. Malaga is a vibrant, culturally rich city blessed with a delightfully restored historic centre featuring a range of modern and traditional bars as well as a plethora of family owned and contemporary shops. Perhaps wander around the Alcazaba, an 11th century Moorish castle with ramparts overlooking the city, visit the Picasso Museum for works by the famous artist who was born here, or relax in the tranquil surroundings of La Conception Botanical and Historical Garden, also with stunning views over the city and the Mediterranean coast.
DAY 2: MALAGA TO GRANADA After breakfast at your hotel this morning, board the train for a scenic ride to Granada, which includes a transfer in the pretty city Andalucian city of Antequera. On arrival in Granada, check in at your hotel for a two-night stay. Located at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountains, the city of Granada and the surrounding Granada province is steeped in medieval history, and its fascinating Moorish architectural heritage draws thousands of visitors every year from around the world. Enjoy a meal of delicious tapas at a local bar, happen upon a spontaneous flamenco performance, or admire the street art that lines the narrow cobblestone boulevards.
DAY 3: GRANADA
Journey by train to Cordoba via Antequera today, and check in at your hotel for a two-night stay. A smaller city than its Andalucian neighbors of Seville and Granada, Cordoba makes up for its lack of size with history, charm and more than a few spectacular sights. Make your way to Cordoba Old Town, with its glorious Mezquita and in the evening, discover the Plaza de las Tendillas with its excellent bars and restaurants.
DAY 5: CORDOBA After breakfast this morning, enjoy an additional day touring Cordoba. Discover Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos, a site also called the Palace of the Christian Kings, built in the 14th century by Alfonso XI. Walk through the inside of the palace and see remarkable Arabian baths, Roman mosaics and a sarcophagus of marble from the 3rd century. Admire the Moorish and Christian architecture that line the alleyways around Juderia – the city’s Jewish quarter, dating back to the time of the Romans. Look out for important monuments dedicated to the most important sons of Cordoba: Roman philosopher Seneca, Arabian philosopher Averroes and Jewish philosopher Maimonides. From here, continue to El Zoco, a market where traditional artisans paint and flamenco dancers’ practice. This evening enjoy the ancient passions of Flamenco with a 2hr show included at Tablao Flamenco El Cardenal.
After an early breakfast, miss the crowds with an early access tour of the spectacular Royal Palace of Alcázar and the magnificent Seville Cathedral – home to many riches of Spanish Colonialism as well as the tomb of Christopher Columbus. Perhaps climb the steady slope to the top of La Giralda for an impressive view, or even atop the futurist Metropol Parasol for a unique photo opportunity. In the evening, perhaps enjoy a meal of tapas and sample other local specialties at one of the many pavement bars around the city.
DAY 8: SEVILLE TO MALAGA Return to Malaga by train today and enjoy a final night in the city. Perhaps visit some of the sights you missed at the beginning of the trip, or revisit some of your favorites.

After breakfast this morning, immerse yourself in Spain’s Moorish past with your included entrance to the Alhambra Palace and Generalife Gardens, the most popular attraction in the city and one of the most beloved monuments in all of Spain. With construction starting in the 11th century, and numerous additions and revisions over hundreds of years, the palace is now a painstakingly restored love letter to Moorish architecture.
Board the train from Cordoba to Seville today, and on arrival in Seville, check in at your hotel for a twonight stay. As the artistic, cultural, and financial capital of southern Spain, Seville is a historical masterpiece full of Islamic monuments, gardens and lively Flamenco festivals. Explorer the huge Plaza de España and Maria Luisa Park, San Cruz Quarter, and Triana, the birthplace of flamenco. Admire the city’s great architecture styles on display, from Islamic and Gothic to Rococo.

Fly from London to Barcelona. On arrival, check in at your hotel for a three-night stay. Settle in and get your bearings before heading out into the city to explore. Relax in the Parc Guell (Gaudi’s garden city), or visit the house that Gaudi built for himself, the Casa-Museu Gaudi. Down at the harbour, you can walk along the seafront to one of Barcelona’s sandy beaches for a relaxing afternoon.
After breakfast, get the most out of this amazing city on a small group tour. DAY 4: BARCELONA TO SEVILLE Enjoy breakfast at your hotel, then depart Barcelona on the high-speed AVE train to Seville. On arrival in Seville, check in at your hotel for a two-night stay. Take the train Paris, then change onto the direct train to Barcelona where you can check in at your hotel for a two-night stay. Once settled into your hotel perhaps take an evening stroll down the treelined Las Ramblas, for dinner.
This morning join a small group tour of the absolute highlights of Seville, including the impressive Plaza de España, San Telmo Palace, Royal Alcázar and huge Cathedral and see the tomb of Christopher Columbus. Enjoy a siesta in the afternoon, before an evening of tapas and Flamenco perhaps!
Enjoy a full day at leisure in Porto. Wander through the UNESCO World Heritage listed Old Town, enjoy your 1hr river cruise included at a time of your choosing, and don’t miss a tour of the Fundação de Serralves, a contemporary art gallery housed in a beautiful Art Deco building with lovely gardens. No visit to Porto would be complete without a tour around the Port Wine cellars. These are situated in Vila Nova de Gaia, across the river by bridge from Ribeira. You can make your own way around or pick up a guided tour.
DAY 2: BARCELONA Enjoy breakfast then embark on a tour of Gaudi’s 2 masterpiece’s: Casa Batlló and the spectacular Sagrada Familia. After, explore the atmospheric Gothic Quarter or why not visit the Picasso Museum to view a huge collection of the famous artist’s world.
DAY 3: BARCELONA TO MADRID Travel from Barcelona to Madrid on the high-speed AVE train and upon arrival, check in at your hotel for a two-night stay. Spend two days sightseeing in this energetic capital. Madrid has three world renowned art galleries, all within close walking distance of each other in the cities so called ‘Golden Triangle of Art’. The most famous of these is the Prado Museum offering one of the world’s finest collections of European works.
DAY 4: MADRID After breakfast explorer the city to its fullest with your Hop-on-Hop-off Pass. Why not head to the contemporary Museo Reina Sofía with its fascinating installations and impressive collection of works by Picasso and Dali. Alternatively, take a break in the Parque del Retiro or enjoy some retail therapy along the Gran Via.
DAY 5: SEVILLE
DAY 7: SEVILLE TO LISBON After breakfast, meet your private driver and enjoy a private car journey to Lisbon. Check in at your hotel for a two-night stay. Visit the city’s most iconic sights such as the impressive medieval castle of Sao Jorge, the National Museum of Contemporary Art and the Estrela Basilica, one of Lisbon’s most fascinating churches and the first to be dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

DAY 8: LISBON Portugal’s historic capital city is draped over seven hills overlooking the mouth of the River Tagus. As one of the oldest cities in the world it has a huge amount to explore from the narrow streets of the Barrio Alto to the majestic Praça do Comércio, the central square overlooking the wide river. DAY 2: LISBON Use your Lisbon Card to save both time and money while discovering the best attractions and experiences the city has to offer. Featuring free entry to more than 20 museums and attractions and unlimited public transport, it is the perfect way to get to know Lisbon. The Praca do Comercio is the unmissable heart of the city, and from here why not head to the Pradao dos Descobrimentos and impressive medieval Belem Tower. From here it is just a short stroll to the iconic Pastéis de Belem bakery for some delicious, traditional tarts, then perhaps pay a visit to the world heritage listed Jerónimos Monastery nearby.
DAY 3: SINTRA, CABO DA ROCA, CASCAIS & ESTORIL DAY TRIP Join a very small group tour today to Sintra – a village of UNESCO World Heritage. The former summer residence of the Portuguese Kings is home to the Pena Palace. Dating from the 16th century it is considered one of the world’s most beautiful castles. Following lunch, you will slowly return to Lisbon via the coast and following stops at Cabo da Roca – the most westerly point of Europe, the pretty fisherman village of Cascais and the beaches of Estoril. In the evening be sure to wander the historic Barrio Alto neighborhood for a great selection of local bars and restaurants for dinner, as well as some fantastic views of the city to match.
DAY 4: PORTO Travel by highspeed train to Porto and enjoy the wonderful scenery as the line follows the coastline. Famous for its delicious wine and cuisine, historic city centre, and friendly locals, this is one destination that does not disappoint. Once settled head out and start making use of your 2-day sightseeing pass.
DAY 5: PORTO Use your included hop-on, hop-off sightseeing tour to create your own itinerary and explore the city! Popular stops include Villa Nova de Gaia, Sé Catedral, Clérigos Church, Teleférico, and traditional wine cellars. In the evening perhaps feast of a Francesinha? The sauce-soaked meat sandwich is a local favorite!
DAY 6: THE DOURO RIVER Make your way down to the river this morning and enjoy breakfast onboard as your boat sets sail upstream along the picturesque Douro river. Sit back and enjoy the fantastic views as the river winds around beautifully steeped hills. Lunch is served on board to the sound of nearby crickets, and the boat navigates its way through several impressive dams before arriving in Pinhão, from where you will be transferred to your hotel in the heart of the Douro Valley. Dinner is included this evening.
DAY 7: THE DOURO VALLEY Enjoy breakfast at your hotel, then visit a nearby Quintas. Here, explore the spectacular gardens and vineyards before tasting some of the wines this land produces. You will be served a delicious lunch cooked the traditional way in iron pots and be treated to some wonderful local music. Following lunch, you are transferred to Pinhão station for your scenic train ride back to Porto but be sure to explore the small station before you leave as it is recognized as being Portugal’s most beautiful!
