WHAT INFORMATION DO YOU REQUIRE AT THE TIME OF BOOKING?

All passenger first and last names, and all dates of birth, are required at the time of booking. Certain train providers will require passport information.

CAN I CUSTOMISE MY TRIP?

Absolutely. We can add hotel nights to give you extra time to explore your destination, or add in additional destinations to help you discover new ones! We can also add transfers for ultimate ease and convenience and have an extensive range of sightseeing options so you can make the most of your trip. Just speak with our Rail Experts and we’ll start creating the perfect rail holiday for you.

CAN YOU RECOMMEND THE MOST SCENIC ROUTE TO GET TO MY DESTINATION?

We’re always advocates of taking the scenic route! With so much to see from the train windows on all our rail holidays, you’re in for a treat. If there’s a different route you could take for some extra special scenery, we’ll be excited to let you know!

CAN I TAKE A RAIL HOLIDAY THAT YOU OFFER IN REVERSE?

Yes! We can offer a reverse option on any of our itineraries. If you are already planned to be in one destination and would like to visit cities on one of our packages in a different order or start/finish in a different location, please call us and speak with a Rail Expert.

CAN I UPGRADE TO FIRST-CLASS RAIL ON SOME OR EVEN ALL OF MY TRAIN JOURNEYS?

You certainly can. We know that many of our clients like to upgrade some or all of their train journeys to first-class. Upgrading will give you a larger seat, more legroom and even a meal and drinks on certain routes. To find out more, please speak with one of our Rail Experts who will tell you the advantages of first class on your specific route.

WHERE ARE YOUR HOTELS LOCATED?

Our hotels are centrally located within each city we offer. Most are within a short distance of local sights and/or your railway stations.

HOW MUCH LUGGAGE CAN I BRING?

In general, each passenger can take two items of luggage plus one personal item. There are no weight restrictions - just remember you’ll need to carry everything!

WHEN WILL I RECEIVE MY TRAVEL DOCUMENTS?

After we receive full payment, travel documents will be sent to you approximately 21 days prior to your departure.

CAN I ADD ON ADDITIONAL SIGHTSEEING OR ADDITIONAL HOTEL NIGHTS?

Yes, you can add additional sightseeing activities and/or hotel nights to most existing rail holiday packages we offer. When you speak with a Rail Expert, request an explanation of the upgrade options to your holiday package as you wish. Additional charges may apply.

AM I ABLE TO TRAVEL ON MY CHOICE OF DATES?

There are no set departure dates with our holidays, with the exception of private train journeys such as the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express. Most trains will run every day, which means our holidays do too!

CAN I CHOOSE MY TRAIN TIMES?

Our packages don’t have set departure times, and if there is a train running when there are multiple trains a day, your Rail Expert will be able to talk you through the different departures. If there’s a particularly convenient time or a departure that will ensure you catch the best scenery, we’ll be sure to recommend it.

HOW LONG BEFORE THE TRAIN DEPARTS SHOULD I BE AT THE STATION?

With the exception of Eurostar, which has a 45-minute check-in time, there is no official checkin required for train journeys in Europe or North America. Of course, we always recommend arriving at the station in plenty of time.

Sorrento, the city of orange and lemon groves, is one of the most beautiful destinations in Europe. Many invaders have passed through the city over the generations - the Etruscans, the Greeks, the Romans and later the Normans. The peninsula has also been home to some of the great English poets such as Byron and Keats. Take a walk through the town to discover the lovely piazzas and sample a glass of Limoncello liqueur or some traditional Sorrentine cuisine at a local restaurant. Explore Via San Nicola and the numerous other pretty streets, lined with shops selling leather, handmade gifts, spices and traditional chinaware.

DAY 6: SORRENTO TO FLORENCE

Relax with a private driver to take you to Naples station, then travel to Florence on board Trenitalia. Spend the rest of your day discovering the birthplace of the Renaissance.

DAY 10: SIENA TO SESTRI LEVANTE

Travel onboard Trenitalia from Siena to Empoli, Empoli to Pisa, and Pisa to Sestri Levante. Immediately begin discovering this beautiful town on the Ligurian Coast on your own.

DAY 11: SESTRI LEVANTE

Explore the walkable old town with many elegant shops and terrific seafood restaurants. Relax on the large sandy beach at the Bay of Silence or follow the path leading from the old town to Punta Manara for amazing panoramic views of the shoreline from Levanto to Portofino.

DAY 12: SESTRI LEVANTE TO LAKE COMO

Visit Como via a train change in Milan. Como features ancient churches, historic monuments, beautiful gardens, and of course, delicious cuisine.

DAY 13: LAKE COMO

Today, experience the beauty of Lake Como from the water with an included two-hour boat tour. Glide past charming lakeside villages, elegant villas, and lush hillsides as you take in panoramic views of one of Italy’s most iconic destinations. Highlights along the way include historic estates, picturesque towns, and even a glimpse of George Clooney’s famed lakeside home. It’s a relaxing and scenic way to enjoy the splendor of the lake.

DAY 14: LAKE COMO

After breakfast this morning, continue to discover Como. Perhaps take the funicular railway up to Brunate for panoramic views or why not just sit at a lakeside bar and take in the striking scenery. You may also want to wander around the shops and boutiques or visit one of the many cultural monuments the city has to offer.

DAY 15: BERNINA EXPRESS

Travel from Como to Milan, Milan to Tirano, and then board the iconic red carriages of the Bernina Express to St. Moritz. The views from the train’s panoramic windows are absolutely stunning, and you’ll experience all the “Oohs” and “Aahs” you expected before boarding.

DAY 16: ST. MORITZ

Simply leave your luggage in a station locker and utilize your Swiss Flexi Pass to get around. See the famous clock tower and take a stroll through Old Town. From Bern, take a direct train to Zurich for a one-night stay.

At a time of your choosing head to Zurich Hbf for a direct train to Interlaken. Located in the heart of the Bernese Oberland and between 2 lakes, Interlaken is a great base for exploring the breathtaking surrounding mountains. Check-in for a 2-night stay, then perhaps enjoy fondue at one of Interlaken’s great local restaurants?

DAY 3: JUNGFRAU DAY TRIP

Climb to Europe’s highest altitude railway station on Jungfrau Mountain, at 11,332 feet high. It’s your choice on the day which route you take, but our suggestion is the scenic trainride up via Lauterbrunnen and Kliene Scheidegg, then on your way back down the mountain ride the spectacular Eiger Express gondola to Grindelwald, then train back to Interlaken. At the Jungfraujoch peak take in the breath-taking views of the Black Forest in Germany and the Vosges Mountains in France. Also enjoy the fascinating glacier and ice gallery at the top. After a spectacular day, return to the hotel for the second night of your stay in Interlaken.

DAY 4: INTERLAKEN TO ZERMATT

Hop on then train and enjoy the amazing scenery between Interlaken and Visp, then onto Zermatt which is your home for the next 2 nights.

DAY 5: GORNERGRAT DAY TRIP

Take a ride on the Gornergrat Cog Railway, which climbs from 5,262 feet above sea level to 10,135 feet in just 33 minutes and is a marvel of 19th Century engineering. From the top, enjoy one of the most spectacular panoramas in all of Switzerland, taking in the iconic outline of the Matterhorn as well as surrounding peaks and glaciers.

DAY 6: THE GLACIER EXPRESS

Enjoy the exhilarating experience of crossing Switzerland today, travelling the full length of the Glacier Express line. The train passes glistening blue lakes and quaint Swiss hamlets, as well as crossing numerous high passes and mountain peaks. Take pictures of the spectacular Landwasser Viaduct as the train rolls over. You will experience all the “Oohs” and “Aahs” you expected before boarding. On arrival in St. Moritz , make your way to your hotel and check-in for one night then enjoy your evening by the lake.

DAY 7: THE BERNINA EXPRESS

After breakfast, embark on one of the world’s most scenic train lines, the Bernina Express! You can expect a spectacular journey. The Bernina Express features awe-inspiring scenery changes so make sure your camera batteries are fully charged because you are guaranteed to capture some amazing shots from the comfort of the panoramic carriages of the train. On arrival in Tirano transfer onto the direct train to Milan for the night.

DAY 8: LAKE GARDA

Take the direct rail journey from Milan to Desenzano, and from here the short cab ride to beautiful Sirmione. Treat yourself to an indulgent day exploring the boutique shops and restaurants of Sirmione or enjoying city views from the nearby Torre di San Martino.

DAY 9: LAKE GARDA

Enjoy a relaxing day exploring the Roman ruins at Grotte di Catullo and Scaliger Castle, In the evening watch the sunset onboard your private boat with a glass of Prosecco, then return to the harbor at Sirmione for dinner.

DAY 10: LAKE GARDA TO LAKE COMO

From Desenzano take the train to Milan, then onto Como. Once checked in perhaps take the funicular railway up to Brunate for panoramic views or why not just sit at a lakeside bar and take in the striking scenery. You may also want to wander around the shops and boutiques or visit one of the many cultural monuments the city has to offer.

DAY 11: LAKE COMO

Today, experience the beauty of Lake Como from the water with an included two-hour boat tour. Glide past charming lakeside villages, elegant villas, and lush hillsides as you take in panoramic views of one of Italy’s most iconic destinations. Highlights along the way include historic estates, picturesque towns, and even a glimpse of George Clooney’s famed lakeside home. It’s a relaxing and scenic way to enjoy the splendor of the lake.

DAY 12: LAKE COMO TO LAKE MAGGIORE

Travel from Como via Milan to Stresa, where you can experience beautiful Lake Maggiore. Like other northern Italian lakes, Lake Maggiore is an idyllic spot that has attracted visitors since the beginning of the 18th century. Lakeside gardens bloom with a profusion of camellias, azaleas, and rhododendrons.

DAY 13: LAKE MAGGIORE

On the shores of the Borromean Gulf, Stresa is ideally situated as a base to explore the lake’s villages, islands and natural beauty. A regular ferry runs from the town around the lake, and the Isola Bella, the most well-known of the Borromean Islands, is only ten minutes away by boat. Stresa itself is a lovely little lakeside town with many markets and historical churches.

DAY 14: STRESA TO ROME

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel, then take the direct train to Rome and check into your hotel for a twonight stay, then set off to start exploring. Perhaps enjoy an ice-cold gelato by the bustling Trevi Fountain and simply watch Roman life go by. Visit the mesmerizing Pantheon or stroll over to the Vatican and admire the colossal St Peters Basilica. Let us know if you would like a tour inside, and perhaps visit the breathtaking Sistine Chapel.

DAY 15: ROME

After breakfast, enjoy your Imperial Rome tour including the Forum and Colosseum then why not visit the Spanish Steps or stroll through the wide-open spaces of the Villa Borghese. Spend your evenings sampling the delicious Italian cuisine of Rome. Stop for a traditional wood-oven pizza in one of the charming trattorias or enjoy beautiful homemade pasta and regional desserts such as ricotta cake, made with fresh ricotta cheese mixed with sugar, vanilla, and candied fruits.

DAY 1: ZURICH TO LUCERNE

After arriving into Zurich, you’ll take a direct train to Lucerne, known as the gateway to central Switzerland. This stunning town boasts delicious food, friendly locals, sunny plazas, waterfront promenades, and unforgettable countryside and mountain views. There’s a reason this city of lights wins over so many travellers’ hearts.

DAY 2: LUCERNE/MOUNT RIGI

Today take a 1hr cruise on Lake Lucerne to Vitznau, then the oldest mountain cog railway in Europe 1800m up to Rigi Kulm. The railway carriages haven’t changed much in 100yrs, and once at the top you get to enjoy some spectacular 360-degree views of as far afield as France and Germany on a clear day. There’s a gift shop and restaurant for lunch at the top, and between May and October you may even have the chance to take a stroll with a St Bernard dog, synonymous with the area. On your decent take another scenic cog railway to the town of Art-Goldau then a train back to Lucerne, or if you’re feeling adventurous hop off at Rigi Kaltbad and take the cable car to Weggis from where there is a 15-minute walk to the boat cruise back to Lucerne.

DAY 3: LUCERNE TO LUGANO

Embark on a scenic train ride from Lucerne to Lugano on the Gotthard Pass via a train change in Bellinzona. You’ll be treated to beautiful scenery along the way.

DAY 4: LUGANO

Spend today getting to know Lugano. Located in Switzerland right on the Italian border, this city offers all the loveliness of Switzerland with a Mediterranean flair. Why not use your Swiss Pass to take a cruise on Lake Lugano or catch a ride to the top of San Salvatore in the Lepontine Alps?

DAY 5: LUGANO TO MILAN

Travel by train to fashionable Milan. Spend the rest of the day discovering the city. Visit the Gothic Duomo di Milano cathedral in the heart of the city or the Santa Maria delle Grazie, a classically beautiful Renaissance church. Milan is also home to the Last Supper and the majestic La Scala Opera house.

DAY 6: MILAN TO VENICE

Catch a Trenitalia train directly to Venice. Set out to acquaint yourself with the classic Italian city. Stroll down the banks of the shimmering canals and discover the magnificent architecture that lines the cobbled streets and square. Come the evening, relax at an outdoor trattoria by the sparkling lagoon.

DAY 7: VENICE

Discover the city’s hidden gems and highlights on a walking tour, and take an iconic, relaxing gondola ride on your own. You will also have skip-the-line access to Doge’s Palace and St. Mark’s Basilica, two of the city’s most popular monuments.

DAY 8: VENICE TO ROME

DAY 1: ARRIVE IN ZURICH

DAY 1: YOUR JOURNEY BEGINS IN PARIS

This morning, board the Eurostar southbound, and upon arrival in Paris, your private transfer will take you to your hotel for a one-night stay. Settle into your comfortable accommodation before heading off on a skip-the-line tour to the very top of the Eiffel Tower, offering panoramic views of the city. Come evening, embark on a scenic cruise along the Seine, accompanied by a delicious dinner of local delicacies. As the sun sets, watch the city illuminate and the Eiffel Tower sparkle in the river’s reflection.

DAY 2: THE VENICE SIMPLON-ORIENTEXPRESS TO VENICE

Check out of your hotel this morning and your private transfer will take you to the train station. Board the gleaming blue and gold carriages of the Continental Wagons-Lits today, where your steward will show you to your compartment. After you have settled into your comfortable quarters, it will soon be time to dress for dinner. Visit the famous bar car for an Agatha Christie Bellini before moving on to one of the magnificent restaurant cars, where you will be served a delicious four-course meal. After dinner, return to the bar car, where the sound of a baby Grand Piano will serenade you throughout the evening. Retire to your compartment for the night, which will now have been transformed into a cozy bedroom by your steward.

DAY 3: ARRIVE IN VENICE

Breakfast is served in your compartment this morning as the journey continues through the Swiss Alps. Lunch will be served in one of the opulent restored restaurant cars before retiring to your compartment to watch the stunning scenery of the Italian Dolomites pass by. As the journey continues, afternoon tea will be served. The train will cross the Venetian Lagoon and then shortly arrive at Santa Lucia station, signalling the end of the journey and your arrival in the magical city of Venice. Check in at your hotel for a three-night stay.

DAY 4: VENICE

Begin exploring this romantic city full of history and culture. Enjoy a ride on a Gondola and admire the city’s architecture from the water. Marvel at the Basilica in the Piazza San Marco, including its iconic Clock Tower. In the evening, why not treat yourself to a delicious lunch or dinner at one of the cities many traditional trattorias, spending blissful hours indulging with local Prosecco by the sparkling canals.

DAY 5: VENICE

After breakfast spend a full day discovering the gems of Venice with a small group tour of the ancient Doges Palace, then the priceless treasure that is the Golden Basilica. In the afternoon take a guided stroll through Venice’s’ alleys, lanes and bridges with a local who can show you some of the secrets these narrow streets hold. In the evening feast on some seafood or perhaps watch the world go from the historic ‘Harrys Bar’; home of the Bellini.

DAY 6: BERNINA EXPRESS TO ST. MORITZ

It’s an early start from Venice to Milan and Tirano today, but the onwards connection onboard the world-famous Bernina Express is worth it. The famous red train will snake its way from the palm tree lined valley of Tirano and Poschiavo up through snow covered mountain peaks and over spectacular bridges and viaducts to St Moritz. Check in to your hotel here for a 2-night stay and then head out to begin exploring this beautiful city at your own pace.

DAY 7: ST. MORITZ

After breakfast, why not take a ride on the local funicular and cable-car to Piz Nair (May-Oct only). This mountain peak rewards all visitors with some spectacular views of Graubünden and beyond. If you’d rather simply relax and enjoy the town, spend some time strolling around the gorgeous lake or dining in one of the many restaurants.

DAY 8: DEPART ST. MORITZ

Check out of your hotel today and take the train from St. Moritz to Chur then on to Zurich for your flight back to the UK.
