World Cleanup Day
The Yousif & Aysha Almoayyed Foundation, in collaboration with Clean-Up Bahrain, organized a beach cleanup activity at Malkiya Beach on 21st September 2024 to mark World Cleanup Day. The event saw enthusiastic participation from over 50 volunteers from YKA, who dedicated their time and effort to making a significant environmental impact.
During the cleanup, volunteers collected a substantial amount of waste, including plastic, wood, and metal debris. In total, an impressive 1 ton of garbage was removed from the beach, contributing to a cleaner and safer environment.

A naturally aspirated 3.8-liter V6 engine option is also available, producing 316HP. The new Patrol includes a 9-speed automatic transmission, ensuring smooth and responsive gear changes. Her story is one of resilience, the pursuit of dreams, and a deep appreciation for personal and professional support systems that exist to help her succeed. In this heartwarming interview, we learn about Zainab’s journey, from realising her passion while working alongside her father and brothers to joining Y.K. Almoayyed & Sons as a trainee at the Nissan Service Department, where she’s breaking the barriers in a male-dominated field.
What attracted you to the automotive industry and to pursue a career as an automotive technician at Y.K. Almoayyed & Sons?
Growing up, I spent countless hours alongside my father and brothers in the mechanic shop, where watching my father dismantle and rebuild car engines inspired me. They always encouraged me to jump in and get my hands dirty, and it didn’t take long for me to develop a deep love for the work. This passion drove me to pursue a degree in Automotive Technology at university. As the only woman in my course, my professors were incredibly supportive, helping me to break into the industry. I joined Y.K. Almoayyed & Sons three months ago to work with a company that values my role as one of the first female technicians and supports my growth in this field.
What does being one of Bahrain's first female automotive technicians mean to you?
Support has been the cornerstone of both my personal and professional journey. Growing up, I worked alongside my father and brothers in the auto repair shop, always the only woman in the room. It wasn’t easy at first—there were moments when I doubted myself, feeling out of place in such a male-dominated environment. But as I got to know the other technicians and mechanics, I began to see my
own strength and realized I was capable of rising to the challenge. Since joining Y.K. Almoayyed & Sons, that support has never wavered, and it has empowered me every step of the way.
Have you faced any professional challenges while working in a largely male-dominated field like automotive repair?
This field requires a lot of physical strength, especially with the heavy lifting involved in moving engines, tyres, and other bulky vehicle parts. At first, this was a real challenge for me—I didn’t think I was strong enough to handle it. But that wasn’t going to hold me back. I changed my diet and lifestyle, increasing my appetite and focusing on building the strength I needed to manage the heavy equipment. Taking care of your body is essential, and it’s something I’ve learned to prioritize so that I can perform my best at work.
What motivates you to continue excelling in this field?
My passion for this field started when I was just a child, and it only grew stronger with every engine I took apart, examined, and put back together. That sense of curiosity continues to drive me today, pushing me to keep learning and improving. But more than that, it’s about fulfilling my father’s dream. He was the first to recognize my talent and chose to nurture it, rather than follow the norm. I want to honour his belief in me and make his dream a reality.

What has been a proud moment for you in your journey so far?
When dealerships in Bahrain visited our university to offer placement opportunities for technicians, it was a pivotal moment for me. Hearing one of my professors praise my abilities and highlight me as one of the smartest and brightest in the class, especially emphasizing my deep knowledge of automotive technology, gave me the confidence boost I needed. It made me believe that I was truly capable of excelling in this field.
What advice would you give to other young women in Bahrain who are interested in entering the automotive industry?
My advice is simple: follow your passion. Being a woman or entering a male-dominated field should never be a reason to hold back from pursuing the career you truly want. Women are constantly proving that no job is too difficult if they stay determined and don’t give up. Instead of focusing only on earning a paycheck, focus on developing your skills in a role you’re genuinely passionate about. That’s where real fulfilment comes from.
