4th Annual Inter-company Football Tournament

The fourth Almoayyed Inter-company Football Tournament took place at the Youth Empowerment Courts in Bu Quwah. Teams from Y. K. Almoayyed & Sons, Almoayyed Contracting Group, Almoayyed International Group, and National Concrete Company participated. Y. K. Almoayyed & Sons honoured three retiring employees. Peter Gonsalves, Senior Sales Manager at Infiniti/Nissan, was celebrated for his 32 years of service by Farouk Almoayyed, Chairman, and Mona Almoayyed, Managing Director of YKA. Abraham Oommen, Administrator at Nissan Spare Parts, and Thamer Alhaddad, Driver at Nissan Service, were also commended for their 28 and 19 years of service, respectively.

Interview Seeking New Challenges: Hussain Ahmed

Hussain Ahmed, began his journey with Y. K. Almoayyed & Sons as a service advisor, evolving into a licensed Heavy Vehicle Inspector in May 2021. With expertise garnered from his tenure, Hussain now spearheads the Heavy Vehicle Testing and Inspection Center (HVTIC) as the Centre in-Charge, leading a team of inspectors. The HVTIC is the first and only inspection centre for heavy vehicles in the private sector, presenting a unique opportunity for Bahraini youth. After undergoing intensive training in-house and extensive training at the General Directorate of Traffic (GDT), Hussain ensures seamless day-to-day operations at the HVTIC while liaising with the GDT. From taking on new challenges to approaching his role while keeping the customer in mind, get to know his story in this interview.

What motivated you to transition from the role of Service Advisor to taking on the challenge of becoming a Heavy Vehicle Inspector at Y. K. Almoayyed & Sons?

Taking on this new challenge was a significant step forward in my career. I sought to progress and embrace new opportunities, leading me to transition from a service advisor to an inspector. In this role, I utilize my keen attention to detail and precision skills to ensure the thorough inspection of heavy vehicles. It's fulfilling to contribute to the safety and efficiency of these vehicles through meticulous examination and assessment.

How did this transition impact your career growth and skill development?

In this field, there's a vast amount to absorb because inspecting heavy-duty vehicles differs greatly from smaller cars. Each vehicle I encounter presents unique challenges, whether it's a tanker, crane, or truck with varying axle configurations. There's no one-size-fits-all procedure; instead, I rely on my expertise and acute attention to detail to ensure thorough inspections. Learning is constant as I adapt to the nuances of each vehicle, making every inspection a dynamic and rewarding experience.

Tell us how you go about liaising with the General Directorate of Traffic.

As part of my job, I work closely with the General Directorate of Traffic, responsible for heavy vehicle inspections. When customers bring their trucks for inspection at the GDT site, if it fails, they have three months for a retest, otherwise they have to start over. If a truck fails, I contact the GDT to understand why and seek clarification. When dealing with truck weights, I consult the GDT for guidance on procedures. During inspections, I note reasons for failure as subsequent inspections may lack this information. My role requires understanding technicalities, for which I underwent a twomonth training at the GDT, becoming a certified inspector. This experience prepared me for overseeing operations smoothly.

Can you discuss a specific instance where you had to handle a challenging situation at the HVTIC?

How did you approach it and what was the outcome?

My team and I always put the customer first. For instance, a customer brought a fridge truck for inspection but lacked essential documents from the Ministry of Health. I advised him to get these documents before the inspection to avoid future issues. Despite his insistence on proceeding, I knew he wouldn't pass without the paperwork, leading to a repeat process in three months. To help him, I reached out to the GDT. They explained the legal requirements, and eventually, the customer got the necessary documents, and his vehicle passed the inspection smoothly.

How does Y. K. Almoayyed & Sons support you with learning and development opportunities?

Moving from a service advisor to a certified inspector was a big deal for me. At first, I was unsure and nervous about what it would involve. Learning all the technical details about trucks at the GDT was tough, but I stuck with it. Thanks to training courses and dealing with different customer issues every day, I grew a lot. My company really supports staff development, which helped me gain the skills to handle all kinds of people. I'm grateful for the chance to become a certified inspector and to lead a whole division. It's been quite a journey, and I'm thankful for the opportunity. 

To mark World Diabetes Day, Y. K. Almoayyed & Sons hosted a workshop in collaboration with King Hamad American Mission Hospital on the importance of the detection of kidney disease which was conducted by Dr. Shah. More than 60 people attended the workshop.

Yousif and Aysha Almoayyed Foundation Signs MoA with BAIDA

The Yousif & Aysha Almoayyed Foundation partnered with Bahrain Association for Intellectual Disability and Autism (BAIDA) to aid students with autism and intellectual disabilities. A porta cabin will be provided as an extra classroom, enabling BAIDA to accommodate more students from the waiting list. With rising autism and intellectual disability cases in Bahrain, the foundation plays a crucial role in supporting their education.

World Heart Day Awareness Campaign

YKA Employee Engagement team collaborated with Bahrain Specialist Hospital and King Hamad American Mission Hospital to organize a heart health awareness campaign, exploring heart health conditions and what it takes to avoid a stroke. It allowed employees to learn and improve their heart health and increase their personal well-being.

Reboot Institute Job Shadow

Students from Reboot Institute recently visited the Ford Showroom in Sitra, where they had the chance to meet with both IT heads and operations managers. This visit provided them with valuable insights into the inner workings of the division’s operations. Engaging with IT leaders offered them a firsthand look at the technological infrastructure that supports the facility, including systems and networks crucial for efficiency. Interacting with operations managers allowed the students to delve into the complexities of overseeing a large-scale operation.

Y. K. Almoayyed & Sons (YKA), UD Trucks' official distributor in Bahrain, wrapped up a 3-day Driver Training Program at its Sitra Heavy Equipment Service Centre. The event was attended by several team members from the parts division along with their family members.
