Swim Offers Hope & Funds to Fight Cancer

Swim Across America, the national nonprofit organization that makes waves to fight cancer through charity swims across the U.S., will host its annual Swim Across America – Nantucket Open Water Swim this Saturday, July 25, at Jetties Beach. This community charity swim welcomes swimmers of all ages and skill levels, from first-time open water swimmers to veteran athletes and master swimmers. Swim options including a fun Kids’ Splash, and quarter-mile, halfmile, 1-mile, 2×2-mile relay and 4-mile swim courses. For those unable to participate in person, a virtual SAA “My Way” option is also available. Proceeds benefit Nantucket Cottage Hospital, Palliative and Supportive Care of Nantucket and Mass General Brigham Cancer Institute. Each year, Swim Across America – Nantucket hosts more than 400 swimmers and volunteers, spectators and supporters, as well as Olympians from near and far, for the annual charity swim.

“Swim Across America – Nantucket is a powerful example of what happens when a community comes together with purpose,” said Jill Roethke, co-event director of Swim Across America – Nantucket. “Every swimmer, volunteer, donor, and supporter is helping ensure that cancer patients on Nantucket have access to outstanding care close to home, while also supporting groundbreaking cancer research.”

Since 2013, Swim Across America – Nantucket has raised more than $6.5 million for its beneficiaries. Last year’s swim raised a record $1 million, and this year’s goal is to match that milestone again.

For Jeff Schneider, a long-time supporter of Swim Across America-Nantucket and the “Why I Swim” guest speaker in 2024, the mission is deeply personal. Schneider and his wife first supported the Nantucket swim as volunteers and

Stage Partnership for Young Performers

The Nantucket Dreamland is expanding access to its summer youth theatre program through a new partnership with the Boys & Girls Club of Nantucket, helping more children participate in this season’s fully staged production of Disney’s Finding Nemo JR

Through the collaboration, fifteen Boys & Girls Club members are joining other young performers in The Dreamland’s summer production. The partnership includes scholarship support, transportation to and from the Boys & Girls Club during rehearsals, and additional access resources designed to remove common barriers to participation.

“Every child deserves the chance to discover what happens when they step into the spotlight, and this partnership makes that possible for so many of our members,” said Jamie Foster, CEO of the Nantucket Boys & Girls Club

The partnership reflects a shared commitment between The Dreamland and the Boys & Girls Club to create more opportunities for children to participate in meaningful arts experiences on Nantucket. By helping remove barriers such as program cost and transportation, the collaboration helps ensure that every Club member who signed up could take part.

“We are so excited to welcome new faces to the Dreamland stage this summer,” said Jordana Fleischut, Director of Arts and Education at The Nantucket Dreamland. “One of our biggest goals is to make sure every child feels engaged and involved from the moment they arrive at rehearsal. Whether they are on stage, learning choreography, working on character, or exploring what happens behind the scenes, each rehearsal is built to keep young performers active, included, and part of the creative process.”

A World of Ideas Brought to Nantucket

Each summer, the Nantucket Atheneum invites some of the country’s incisive thinkers, talented writers, and public figures to the island for an evening of conversation open to the public. This year the 2026 Geschke Series brings to the island speakers whose work spans political theory, artificial intelligence, public health, sociology, and foreign policy, continuing a tradition that has quietly become a highlight of summer on Nantucket.

Nantucket’s public library, the Atheneum has a long history of hosting notable speakers: during the nineteenth century, they welcomed figures including Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, Horace Greeley, Lucretia Mott, and Frederick Douglass.

That tradition faded over time, and by the early 2000s, the island had seen fewer prominent speakers hosted in library’s Great Hall. According to a 2007 interview with Atheneum Trustee Emerita Nan Geschke published in Yesterday's Island, Today's Nantucket, a handful of board members set out to change that. Facing the practical question of how to fund an ongoing lecture series, they applied to the National Endowment for the Humanities for a grant and were awarded one. It was a distinction few libraries could claim: “We were one of only two public libraries in the U.S. to receive a grant that year,” Nan Geschke explained.

The NEH award was a matching grant, meaning the Atheneum needed to raise additional funds to unlock it. “The goal was to build a total endowment of about $1.2 million to sustain the series for years to come.” The Geschke Foundation, established by Chuck and Nancy Geschke, stepped in as the largest donor to that matching effort, and the lecture series was named in their honor. Chuck Geschke, who co-founded Adobe Systems, and his wife served on the Atheneum’s board in the early 2000s and were longtime supporters of island nonprofits. Chuck passed away in 2021, but the series he helped fund carries on his and Nan’s legacy of supporting public access to ideas.

Since its launch in the summer of 2005, the Geschke Series has brought more than two decades’ worth of distinguished guests to Nantucket — an eclectic roster that has included Adobe co-founder Chuck Geschke and 3Com founder Bob Metcalfe, journalists Thomas Friedman, Lesley Stahl, Gwen Ifill, and Robin Wright, historian Doris Kearns Goodwin, presidential advisor David Gergen, General David Petraeus, and foreign policy expert Richard Haass, among many others. Along the way, the series has tackled climate change, technology, public health, journalism, and democracy, always with an eye toward the pressing questions of the moment.

This year’s series features five speakers drawn from academia, medicine, and public policy:

On July 6, political theorist and the James Bryant Conant University Professor at Harvard University Danielle Allen spoke to an engaged audience. Allen holds two PhDs, in Classics and in Government, and has earned a MacArthur Fellowship and the Library of Congress's Kluge Prize. She is the author of several influential books, including Our Declaration and Cuz, and has written as a longtime columnist for The Washington Post

This Monday, July 27, Dr. Randall Davis will speak about artifical intelligence: what it is, what it can do now, and its possible future. A Professor of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at MIT and a Research Director at the Computer Science & Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL), Dr. Davis brings decades of expertise in artificial intelligence to the stage.

This Wednesday, July 29, the talk by Dr. Jeremy Nobel will focus on creativity, connection, and health. A primary care physician, public health practitioner, and award-winning poet on the faculty of both Harvard Medical School and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, Dr. Nobel offers a perspective that bridges medicine and the humanities.

A Spectacular Night on the Beach

One of our island’s most anticipated summer traditions returns on Saturday, August 8, when Jetties Beach is transformed into an extraordinary waterfront concert venue for the 29th annual Boston Pops on Nantucket. Big Milestones to Celebrate on August 1

Certain birthdays are bigger milestones than others. When a kid hits double digits, for example. That tenth birthday party should have just a little more juice on the fastball, right? Same for the 65th birthday (I’ll tell you all about that one in a few months if, as they say, the creek don’t rise and the good Lord’s willin’).

On August 1 this year, I am hereby inviting everyone reading this to join the August Blues Fishing Tournament crew at the Cisco Brewery to help us celebrate the 30th birthday of August (Augie) Chotkowski. Augie is an amazing spirit. He lifts up everyone who meets him. He’s a good friend, brother, and son. And Augie is turning 30 on August 1. Augie has lived with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy for his entire life. This may have slowed him down a little, but not by much. Augie is still on the go in his motorized wheelchair. Here’s hoping that everyone will come say hello to Augie on August 1, the August Blues Cast Off party. The party will have a Hawaiian theme and should be epic!

Augie’s dad, Dr. Greg Chotkowski, put this tournament together with the help of his good friend Rick Ramos and a host of others. This ambitious effort has been hugely successful. The August Blues website (Augustbluesnantucket.com) says this: “In the spirit of unity and resilience, the August Blues tournament is more than a fishing competition—it's a collective effort in the fight against Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. “A hell of a thing to be told you have three to five years to live,” Jeff Schneider noted. “A two-year battle ensued. Surgery, radiation, and hormone therapy at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute has me three years along and in remission. Throwing the kitchen sink at it seems to have done the trick for now, and I enjoy every day with thanks for those that made it happen.”

“This is why I am so committed to doing whatever I can to keep the good work going, of which Swim Across America is so vital to supporting,” Schneider said. “My wife, children and six grandchildren, along with my friends, are grateful for the part Swim Across America played in keeping me around much longer than three to five years.”

Jeff also noted that the Swim Across America community gave him something essential during his cancer journey: hope.

“Throughout my battle with stage 4 prostate cancer I had hope,” Jeff said. “Hope got me through the worst of times. Hope helped me bear the surgery, radiation, and the nasty hormone therapy drug Zytiga I had to take for two years. The swimmers that swim for me and my fellow cancer patients and survivors, along with the whole Swim Across America organization, gave me then—and always will give me hope.”

Through its support of Nantucket Cottage Hospital, Swim Across America –Nantucket ensures that island cancer patients don’t face the burden of traveling to the mainland for care. Thanks to a collaboration with Mass General Brigham Cancer Institute, patients have access to academic-level oncology right in their own community, with visiting cancer specialists, and a board-certified advanced practice oncology registered nurse on-site to support patient care. Treatments are at the Swim Across America Infusion Center, where patients receive cancerdirected therapies and supportive care in their own private rooms, which are a warm, unhurried setting where the very best academic medicine meets the

Swim Across America – Nantucket also supports Palliative and Supportive Care of Nantucket, which provides direct care and services to adult patients and families coping with cancer, and continues to expand its holistic approach through wellness activities and innovative therapies. Care is provided by a team that includes a nurse practitioner, part-time RN-nurse specialist, palliative care counselor, program assistant, chaplain, and volunteers. Services are provided in any setting and are offered free of charge through donations and grants. PASCON also conducts a cancer support group open to the public and provides a welcoming space for patients and loved ones at any stage of the cancer journey twice a month. PASCON works directly with the Nantucket Cottage Hospital oncology staff to help meet patients’ needs, highlighting the importance of a collaborative, patient-centered approach.

At Mass General Brigham Cancer Institute, proceeds from Swim Across America – Nantucket support the research of Bryan Choi, MD, PhD, who specializes in surgical care for patients with benign and malignant brain tumors. Choi also leads a research laboratory focused on developing the next generation of cell therapies and clinical trials in neuro-oncology.

“The impact of this swim is felt in many ways,” said Jim Pignato, co-event director of Swim Across America – Nantucket. “It helps patients receive care here on the island, supports families during incredibly difficult moments and fuels research that can lead to better treatments for cancer patients everywhere. Jeff’s story is a powerful reminder that research matters, and that the money raised by Swim Across America truly can change lives.”

The summer youth production is designed to give young performers meaningful roles, individual attention, and the experience of being part of a fully staged musical. Nantucket audiences can expect a joyful production complete with sets, costumes, choreography, and technical elements, brought to life by children participating in Dreamland’s summer theater program.

In addition to performing on stage, participants also have the opportunity to take part in a technical theater track, learning about lighting, sound, props, and stage management. The program is structured so that children remain actively engaged throughout the rehearsal process, whether they are learning music, choreography, character work, or the backstage elements that bring a production to life.

One thing that I really love is that junior anglers can enter the tournament for free! A kid aged 17 and under is automatically eligible for a prize when they submit a fish. It’s that simple. Fish are scored by length. Anglers place their catch on a tape measure and capture a picture of it. That allows for the fish to be released. The picture is then uploaded to the August Blues tournament link and you’re eligible to win some great prizes.

There are some very fun events scheduled this year. Our beloved fishing guide and beach ambassador Tammy King will be hosting a ladies fishing fundraiser on August 18 (see website for details). If you know Tammy, you know this will be fantastic. And ladies, if you don’t know Tammy, well here’s your chance to meet her.

Another great family event is scheduled for August 22. This will be the Derby Day. This event will be a day of instruction, competition, demonstration, and prizes. There will be grills cooking burgers and dogs as well as sponsors showing off their fine products. This is an event for the whole family.

My favorite new prize for the 2026 tournament is called the John Robinson award (John from Maine). All of us beach regulars know John: he’s a wonderful person and a great fisher. John is donating a trophy for the junior angler who submits the longest beach-caught bluefish. Furthermore, this prize will also begin with a three-year look back to honor the beach juniors who submitted the biggest bluefish in the three previous August Blues tournaments. Rumor has it that the junior angler who lands the prize-winning beach blue this

year will leave the September 1 awards ceremony holding a brand-new rod and reel combo donated by Steve Tuna’s Fishing Adventures! Get out there and catch, kids!

Another very cool new competition for the 2026 tournament is the fundraising contest. Think of the way that folks running marathons collect support from their friends: this will be just like that. The setup is simple and allows friends to donate to PPMD very easily. There will be a prize awarded to the highest fundraiser. (If you’re unsure which angler to support, might I suggest your buddy, Stevie Tuna.)

I know that we are warned about coveting things, but I assure you that I covet the biggest beach bluefish prize. The winner of that prize will take home an autographed New England Patriots jersey signed by the Patriots world champion and Hall of Fame linebacker Tedy Bruschi! There will be late hours put in on the beach, spurred on by the thought of holding the #54 jersey signed by this great player, broadcaster, and fisher!

Year four for this tournament promises to be a great time for everyone involved, and all for a great cause. Registration is now open for anglers.

Volunteer verifiers then confirm that ID or suggest another bringing the observation to research grade. The Linda Loring Nature Foundation has a tutorial for how to use iNaturalist for the BioBlitz here at llnf.org/virtualprograms/v/how-to-use-inaturalistnantucket-bioblitz.

During this year’s BioBlitz, all iNaturalist observations from either island will be included in the Inter-Island Project as the rival islands compete for most observations and most species. Results will shed light on differences between the islands in species composition and seasonality. Anyone can participate, but we encourage you to join the iNaturalist project at inaturalist.org/projects making it easy to track results, receive guidelines, updates, and highlights.

Lead by the Linda Loring Nature Foundation on Nantucket and BiodiversityWorks’ Martha’s Vineyard Atlas of Life, the BioBlitz uses iNaturalist to record, catalog, and help identify all life on the islands. Throughout the 2-week period, event organizers will highlight fun biodiversity finds and species unique to each island. Free programs throughout the BioBlitz are available to guide participants in how to make and record observations while visiting some of our amazing island habitats. For Nantucket events, check out the Linda Loring Nature Foundation calendar for free guided programs in multiple habitats throughout the 2-week period. Colleague organizations are also join-

ing in the fun as we strive to squash the Vineyard Grapes.

Of course, we hope Nantucket will take the lead, but this event is about more than just competition. Looking at the data collectively, we’re hoping to be able to make comparisons about species, habitats, and timing (phenology). Our conservation partners at BiodiversityWorks have a lot more land area to cover (MV is nearly twice the size of Nantucket), but each island has unique species and/or habitats. Outside of the BioBlitz time period, BiodiversityWorks has been using iNaturalist to catalog all life on Martha’s Vineyard via their Atlas of Life project which boasts over 5,500 species. For Nantucket, there are over 3,800 species listed on iNaturalist for the entire island, but that includes species seen in other seasons as well.

Throughout the 2-week period of the Inter-Island BioBlitz, we will be posting interesting observations and updates from both islands. We expect some obvious differences like the number of mammal species on MV and the fact that birds like the Tufted Titmouse are common there, but a rarity on Nantucket. Nantucket may be geographically smaller, but we are mighty in our community effort to document species. In 2024, the biggest year for our local BioBlitz, the Nantucket event had 3,649 observations and documented 977 species in only two weeks! Some of my personal favorite finds from that year were baby barracuda found in the harbor, puffer fish, wolf’s milk slime mold, and the Ruddy Ducks here out of season. Even though I am a plant ecologist, I love the BioBlitz for all the new species I get to see and learn about. I can’t wait for the 2026 event to start and to share all the interesting and potentially new finds.

World of Ideas

The 2026 Geschke Series continues in August with a talk by Dr. Paul Starr on August 3. A professor of sociology and public affairs at Princeton University and co-founder of The American Prospect, Starr is known for his scholarship on the American health care system and the media. He will speak on how shared trust in science and medicine broke down.

As the World Churns is the title of a talk Dr. Richard Haass will present on August 24. During his career, Haass held senior government posts including Director of Policy Planning for the U.S. Department of State and senior director for Near East and South Asian affairs on the National Security Council. He has written or edited fourteen books on foreign policy, including his 2023 bestseller The Bill of Obligations: The Ten Habits of Good Citizens, and remains a frequent commentator on global affairs. Haass is a familiar face to Geschke audiences, having previously spoken in the series on international politics and global disarray.

This year the 2026 Geschke Series talks will be held in the Great Harbor Yacht Club rather than the Atheneum’s Great Hall, allowing the series to accommodate a growing audience. Tickets are available at NantucketAtheneum.org.

Nearly two decades after Nan and Chuck Geschke helped revive the Atheneum's tradition of bringing big thinkers to the island, the series named for them remains true to its original purpose: taking ideas seriously, in an unhurried setting, for a community that shows up summer after summer to listen. Whether the topic is artificial intelligence, democratic renewal, public health, or the shifting landscape of American foreign policy, the 2026 lineup continues that legacy — proof that a small island library can still convene some of the biggest conversations of the moment.

Nantucket Island is just about 14 miles by 3-1/2 miles, and there are miles of bike paths to nearly every area. This means that riding a bicycle is one of the best ways to get around our island. NORTH SHORE AND HARBOR BEACHES

40th Pole: Great for families and young children, but no lifeguards. On Nantucket Sound; warm water during July, August, and September inspired nickname “The Bathtub” for area nearby. Parking. Best access via 4WD vehicle.

Dionis: 3 miles from town by bike on the north side of Eel Point Rd. off Madaket Road. Look for the boulder marked “Dionis.” Sheltered by dunes, calm waters for swimming, safe for children; restrooms, & parking. Beachgoers can take NRTA shuttle bus to Eel Point Rd stop & walk.

Steps: Between Dionis and Jetties beaches; access from Cliff Road. No lifeguard, no facilities, very little parking. Gentle surf; sandbar. Many steep steps must be descended to get to the beach.

Jetties: Easy bike ride from town, or take the shuttle bus. Great beach for families. Lifeguards, changing rooms, playground, volleyball nets, restrooms, showers, public phones, restaurant and take-out food service. Concession and restrooms handicap accessible; boardwalk to the beach. Tennis. Windsurfing, sailboat, and kayak rentals. Shuttle service from town to Jetties Beach is available seasonally.

Brant Point: Easy walk or bike ride from town. No lifeguard. Strong current; experienced swimmers; beach drops off suddenly under the water. Scenic beach with Brant Point Lighthouse; nice to sit and watch the boats rounding the point. Here is where to go to wave goodbye to friends and family departing on the Steamship.

Children’s: Harbor Beach, an easy walk from town down So. Beach Street and off Harbor View Way. Flotation devices are not permitted within the guarded area. Ideal for small children; park, playground, and bandstand; lifeguard, restrooms, showers, food service, picnic tables. Food, playground, and rest room are all accessible. Activities sponsored by Park & Recreation Commission are often held at this beach during the summer.

Francis Street: Five-minute walk from Main Street. Calm harbor waters for swimming; no lifeguard. Jungle gym, kayak rentals, bathroom.

SOUTH SHORE - OCEAN BEACHES

Cisco Beach: Four-mile bike ride to end of Hummock Pond Road. Heavy surf; lifeguard. No facilities. Parking. Rip currents can be strong.

Ladies Beach: To access, turn left at the end of Bartlett Farm Road. No facilities; no lifeguard. Limited parking. Rip current can be strong; heavy surf.

Miacomet Beach: at the end of Miacomet Road. Some parking. Surf and rip currents can be strong on the ocean side. No facilities or food service. This beach is near Miacomet Pond, but the pond is currently closed due to harmful algae.

South Shore Beach: at the end of South Shore Rd. Limited parking; difficult to access beach, 4WD is advisable. No lifeguard; no facilities.

Surfside: Located at the end of Surfside Road, a three-mile ride on paved bike path or take the shuttles. Easy to park. Plenty of surf, wide beach is good for picnics, beach games, and surfcasting. Kite flying west of Surfside Beach is acceptable; for safety reasons, please do not fly kites east of Surfside toward the airport. Due to the number of people who frequent Surfside Beach during the day, it is inadvisable to fly kites during the peak beachgoing hours. Lifeguard, restrooms, showers, public phones, food service. Shuttle service from town to Surfside Beach is available seasonally.

Fisherman’s Beach: Located between Surfside Beach and Nobadeer. No parking; Beach access via steep wooden steps. Plenty of surf, wide beach is good for picnics, beach games, and surfcasting. No lifeguard; no facilities.

Nobadeer: Located near the airport. Limited parking; difficult to access beach. Plenty of surf, wide beach is good for picnics, beach games, and surfcasting. No lifeguard; no facilities.

Madequecham: Land Bank property at the end of Madequecham Valley Road; rough sand road. Parking. No facilities; no lifeguards. Rip current can be strong; heavy surf.

Tom Nevers (“Pebble Beach“): Surf can be heavy; very coarse sand. No lifeguard; no facilities. Good for fishing. Strong rip currents; heavy surf. Access to the beach can be difficult.

WESTERN SHORE - OCEAN BEACHES

Madaket: As far west as you can go, six-mile bike ride on scenic, paved bike path, or take the shuttle bus. Heavy surf, lifeguard, restrooms. Famous for its incredible sunsets.

EASTERN SHORE - OCEAN BEACHES

Siasconset: Regular shuttle bus service or seven-mile ride on paved bike path. Surf can be heavy; lifeguard. Food available in nearby village of ’Sconset. Low Beach: 4WD access. Surf can be heavy; no lifeguard.

BAY & POND BEACHES

Miacomet Pond: Fresh water pond, nantucket-ma.gov/hab for algae updates. Pocomo Beach: Great for kayaking and to learn to windsurf. Just west of the Head of the Harbor. Good for children. No lifeguards, no facilities.

Eel Point: Good for fishing and watching the sunset. No lifeguard; no facilities. Limited parking. Rip currents can be strong.

Coskata-Coatue and Great Point: at the end of Wauwinet Road, past The Wauwinet Inn. Coskata-Coatue Wildlife Refuge managed by Trustees of Reservations; beach sticker required for vehicles from Trustees of Reservations. Great for fishing and for seeing Great Point Lighthouse up close. Rolling dunes, bayberry, beach plum, heather, and beach grass. Salt marsh and maritime shrubland. The largest red cedar savanna and woodland in New England. Gray and harbor seals. Public restrooms available at the lighthouse Memorial Day-Columbus Day. Sections of the refuge are sometimes closed to protect nesting shorebirds. Dogs permitted only from Sept. 16 thru March 31 and must be leashed at all times. Sesachacha Pond: off Polpis Road. Great for families; warm water; no facilities; no lifeguard. Parking. Near the Audubon Sesachacha Heathlands and Wildlife Sanctuary. Currently closed for swimming due to harmful algae blooms.

BEACH SAFETY

•Learn to swim. If you can’t swim an overhead stroke for at least 15 minutes you should not be in the ocean. •Never swim alone. Always swim with a buddy, and swim near a lifeguard whenever possible. •Stay out of the “surf zone” where the waves break at the shoreline. Waves are at their greatest force here, and even a small wave can lift you up and throw you headfirst into the sand. •Never run from the beach into the water and dive headfirst into the waves. Sandbars that cannot be seen from the surface may be present and/or the water may be too shallow. •Don’t jump or dive into the water from a pier or rock jetty. From a pier or jetty, water appears much deeper than it really is. What looks like 10 or 20 feet of water may only be 2 to 3 feet deep. Diving in could be fatal. The same applies for jumping headfirst into the ocean or a wave from a surfboard – don’t do it! It’s not a risk worth taking. •If you are body surfing or boogie boarding, always keep your arms out in front of you to protect your head and neck. •A rip current will pull you away from the shore, but it will not pull you under. If you’re caught in a rip current, do not swim toward the shore! Instead, swim parallel to the shore, until you’re out of the rip current. Then, swim in to shore. •Never drink alcohol or use drugs at the beach. It clouds your ability to make wise decisions, and that could be fatal! •Take direction from lifeguards at all times.

Make sure you don’t miss the fishing while you’re here on Nantucket! The HERBERT T sport fishing boat will take you to where the blues are biting. Captain Fred Tonkin is an experienced fisherman and will provide you with all the equipment for up to six people to fish at one time. He takes four 2-1/2-hour trips a day: 7 am, 10 am, 1 pm and 4 pm, and the fishing starts just 15 minutes from the dock. The HERBERT T is fully licensed and insured and is fully equipped electronically. While you’re on Nantucket, do as the islanders do - catch some blues! $150 per person (minimum of 2 people). Private charters are also available for $650 - up to 6 persons.

A Spectacular Night on the Beach

The concert begins at 7 pm, with gates opening at 4:30 pm, giving attendees time to settle in on the beach with family and friends before the music begins. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets, beach chairs, and picnic dinners as they enjoy one of the island’s most picturesque settings. The event’s relaxed atmosphere has long made it a favorite tradition for generations of Nantucket families and seasonal visitors.

All tickets must be scanned by security staff at the entrance gate. You may show your confirmation code on your smartphone or bring a printout of your confirmation email that shows your code. All ticket levels are non-refundable and there is no rain date for this event.

Food and drinks are not available for purchase at the event. As you pack your picnic, remember: all alcoholic beverages are prohibited; no glass bottles are allowed; beach umbrellas including canopies and shade structures are forbidden. Security staff will perform contactless bag checks at the entrance gate.

Also: leave all pets other than certified service animals at home. Drones and flying devices are prohibited as are all firearms, explosives, and weapons of any kind (including pocketknives, pepper spray, fireworks, etc.).

The parking lot at Jetties Beach is not open during the concert, and nearby parking is extremely limited. On Saturday, August 8, North Beach Street will be open to motor traffic for concert drop-offs only (at intersection of North Beach Street and Bathing Beach Road). Hulbert Avenue, Bathing Beach Road and the dirt portion of Charles Street will be closed to traffic on Saturday, August 8. Free bike parking is available near entrance at Bathing Beach Road, but bicycles are not permitted inside the concert area.

Handicap accessible shuttle service is available to accommodate General Admission guests who need wheelchair accessibility and special assistance. Two companions can ride the shuttle service with the elderly or disabled guest. Transportation on the shuttle must be pre-arranged by calling the Nantucket Cottage Hospital Development Office at 508-825-8250 .
