This year, the Nantucket Island School of Design and the Arts (NISDA) will host its beloved Sandcastle and Sandsculpture Contest in July rather than August. Held at Jetties Beach, this tradition has been drawing islanders and visitors together since 1975.

It was a gathering of friends for a beach picnic and to build a sandcastle that NISDA Director Kathy Kelm and her husband Larry Cronin organized in the early 1970s that sparked the idea for this island tradition. They had such fun that they did it again the next summer, and the next, and then they decided to offer the idea to everyone.

The very first contest set the tone for all the fun that followed. As one longtime organizer recalls, the reaction that first year was pure “excitement and joy,” and it’s

A Decade of Honoring Design, History, & Island Style

This Monday through Thursday, July 13 to 16, the Nantucket Historical Association (NHA) celebrates a milestone as Nantucket by Design marks its 10th anniversary with four days of inspiring conversations, exclusive gatherings, and world-class design programming. This annual fundraiser has become one of the nation’s premier summer design events while providing critical support for the NHA’s mission to preserve and share the island’s remarkable history.

Launched in 2016, Nantucket by Design was introduced under the leadership of its inaugural event chair, Maureen Fennessy Bousa, as a new way to celebrate the island’s unique architectural and decorative arts heritage while raising funds for the Nantucket Historical Association. The event has evolved from an ambitious regional gathering into an internationally recognized destination for interior designers, architects, landscape designers, collectors, artisans, and design enthusiasts. Previous chairs, including Phoebe Tudor, Kelly Williams, Stacey Bewkes, Olivia Charney, and current co-chairs Marla Mullen and Bill Richards, have continued to expand the event’s reach and prestige.

This year’s theme, Etched in Time: Signature Design Stories, explores the enduring influence of interiors, architecture, landscape design, and the decorative arts. Just as scrimshaw once carried the engraved signatures of sailors’ lives and journeys, today’s designers etch their own mark through craftsmanship, innovation, and artistry. Presented in dialogue with the Nantucket Historical Association and the traveling exhibition, The Wider World and Scrimshaw, this program highlights design as both a personal statement and a cultural legacy — a signature etched in time.

One of Nantucket by Design’s defining characteristics is its ability to attract many of the industry’s most influential voices. This year’s roster includes internationally recognized designers, architects, editors, entrepreneurs, landscape designers, authors, and tastemakers whose work has shaped luxury residential design across the country.

Among the 2026 luminaries are Aerin Lauder, Alexa Hampton, Bunny Williams, Corey Damen Jenkins, David Netto, Fernando Wong, Marshall Watson, Margot Shaw, Sarah Wetenhall, Nell Diamond, Wayne Maness, Josh Young, Jennifer Mabley, Austin Handler, Tori Mellott, Jo Saltz, Tom Kligerman, Doug Wright, Tim Adams, Julie Murphy, Tiffany LeBlanc, and Michael Luft Weissberg.

The week opens on Monday, July 13, with a timely discussion titled Beyond the Buzz: How Design Businesses Are Actually Using Technology, featuring Julie Murphy, Michael Luft Weissberg, and Tiffany LeBlanc, moderated by Dustin Hayes. The panel will examine how artificial intelligence is reshaping the design profession while preserving creativity and craftsmanship.

Later that morning, Sarah Wetenhall, owner and CEO of The Colony Hotel and The Hedges Inn, will join acclaimed AD100 designer David Netto for a conversation about preserving history while reimagining celebrated hospitality properties.

From 1:30 to 3:30 pm on Monday, Eleish van Breems Home at 14 Easy Street is hosting special Design Week events with Mary Lacoursiere, NHA’s Artistic Director of Heritage Craft. Stop by for Nantucket Basket Weaving and Sailor’s Valentines. This event will also be held Wednesday, July 15 from 1:30 to 3:30 pm.

A Designer Home Tour will be offered on Monday afternoon, featuring three rarely seen and uniquely historic homes on different streets in downtown Nantucket.

Ticket holders will close their first day by gathering for a festive opening night party and dinner.

On Tuesday, July 14, internationally acclaimed landscape designer Fernando Wong will discuss his vision for restoring the historic gardens at the NHA’s Hadwen House on upper Main Street. Later in the morning, one of the event’s most anticipated sessions pairs celebrated designers Corey Damen Jenkins and

I Won, You Won, We All Won

Wow, it feels so great to win a fishing tournament. What tournament did I win, you ask? Well, not to brag, but I won the Spring Sea Run Opener tournament. In fact, I’ve won it every year that I’ve fished it. And so did every other participant. This tournament has done an amazing job of getting the local beach fishing community involved in supporting a wide variety of Nantucket charities and scholarship funds. Thus, we all win. Big time!

For twelve years now, Rafael Osona has organized and managed the Spring Sea Run Opener. It’s been a labor of love for Rafael. It’s a very dialed-in event now but Rafael still has to invest a lot of time and effort to maintain the level of success that the Opener has achieved. From searching for sponsors to updating the leader board, Rafael selflessly keeps this machine rolling. We’re all grateful. The tournament is a blast. The team division is competitive. And the annual awards ceremony gathering is one of my favorite events of the year.

“I find great joy in organizing this event to help local charities and provide an arena for those that like to fish in a fun and competitive way,” said Osona. “But the ones that really make a difference in this whole thing are the ones that donate and participate year after year. Every year, we give out thousands of dollars in gear, gift cards, and other island services. Our sponsors happily donate these things time and time again. Everyone that has signed up has a hand in these fundraising efforts and that’s an amazing thing!

“In terms of fishing, this was probably the toughest year we’ve ever had for the tournament, but the participants were unwavering in their efforts. The closing party and awards ceremony this year was by far my favorite one ever. It felt more like a community, a family, than any year prior. I hope to expand this family in the years to come. So if you haven’t been a part of this tournament yet, come join us!”

As a plant ecologist I usually write about the flora and fauna of Nantucket by land. However, I happen to be married to a fisherman. Sometimes I see or hear about something, and it makes me want to learn more. This past weekend, while on a fishing charter, my husband’s client had an unexpected surprise when reeling in a striped bass. Something “big” suddenly tugged on the line. What seemed like a decent-sized bass at first turned into a heavy haul pulling out line demonstrative of something much larger. Just then, maybe 20 feet from the stern of the boat, an 8-foot shark leapt into the air, striper in its jaws. One half of the striper did eventually make it into the boat, but the talk of the crew that day was all about the “giant” shark that trailed them and even came close enough for some great videos. The shark, it turns out, was a porbeagle. Apparently, at least four other boats had similar porbeagle encounters that weekend as humans and sharks “battled” for the available stripers. A common, but exciting sight when fishing offshore.

This encounter got me thinking a lot about porbeagle. To the untrained eye (like me) I would have yelled “great white!” Porbeagle sharks (Lamna nasus) do resemble their great white cousins, but they have a whole different ecology all to themselves. First off, porbeagle sharks are the only shark species that inhabit Massachusetts waters year-round, thriving in the cold, nutrient-rich coastal zones. They are our year-rounders! Great whites get all the attention, but they are more like Nantucket seasonal visitors: the great whites migrate to our summer waters following food (seals) and temperature. The porbeagle don’t target marine mammals like the larger sharks do. They tend to go for other, smaller fish; squid, bony fishes, and even smaller sharks. And, in case you’re wondering, because of its fish-diet, porbeagle shark attacks on humans are extremely rare. Porbeagle are also occasionally called “Fako” because they are sometimes mistaken for mako sharks – aka “Fake Mako.” The porbeagle is a species of mackerel shark distributed widely in the cold and temperate marine waters of the North Atlantic. Gray above and white below, the porbeagle has a very stout midsection that tapers towards the long, pointed snout and the narrow base of the tail. They grow up to about 8 feet on average (12 feet max).

One cool trait is the porbeagle’s ability to thermoregulate. Like other members of the mackerel shark family, the porbeagle has the ability to maintain its body temperature above ambient water temperature by as much at 10 degrees. This is an unusual trait among fishes, possessed by only a few other fast-swimming fish, like tunas. This ability is an important adaptation to the cold waters that the porbeagle prefers and allows them to be a very fast-swimming predator. In addition to being fast, the porbeagle is highly active. It can be solitary or found in groups. They are also one of the few species known to perform seemingly playful behavior. They have been observed in groups of up to 20 individuals tossing about floating objects, including driftwood and seaweed. They seem to engage in such activity for no apparent reason other than to kill time! The fishermen I asked hadn’t seen any of the playful behavior. They mostly talked about porbeagles being either cool to fish for or annoying. In the past, when population abundances were higher, porbeagles were often considered a nuisance because

easy to see why. “Sandcastles are synonymous with summer and the beach, and, at the core of it all, Nantucket is a family-fun focused place!” Many island artists embraced the idea, and it grew from there. That simple formula of sun, sand, and togetherness is one of the reasons the event has endured for more than fifty years.

One of the things that sets the Sandcastle and Sandsculpture Contest apart from a typical beach day is its staying power across generations. Numerous families return year after year, and they take it seriously, in the best possible way. For many, it is more than just an outing: it’s a family tradition they look forward to all year. Some re-live the joy of summer during cold winter months by planning and designing the sand sculpture they will construct.

The Sandcastle and Sandsculpture Contest welcomes multigenerational teams of all kinds. Parents build alongside their children, cousins and neighbors team up, and grandparents happily dig in, too. A family group can be any multigenerational combination, and the Family category remains the most popular of the day.

Because this is a family-friendly amateur event, the sculptures are less about polish and more about heart. And that heart really shows. Over the years, some designs have become fan favorites: mermaids, dragons, sharks, jeeps, sailor's valentines, ice cream cones, Sconset cottages, whales, and, of course, classic castles. While new superheroes tend to pop up every few years, the themes during this day at Jetties Beach have stayed largely timeless.

Since that first contest in 1975, the event has grown in scope while keeping its original spirit intact. Today, beautiful fancy ribbons are awarded to winners in each category, and every single participant goes home with a ribbon of their own. The contest is open to the public and co-sponsored and promoted by the Nantucket Chamber of Commerce, which has helped make it a well-known and well-attended island tradition.

Spectators are just as essential to the day as the builders themselves. Their energy fuels the event, and the People’s Choice Award gives the crowd a direct hand in celebrating their favorite creations. Day-trippers, summer residents, and yearround families all come out in droves to watch, to cheer, and to immerse themselves

A visitor sees a beautiful island.

The people working here see a calendar. They know which rental still has to be turned over before Saturday afternoon. Which porch must be rebuilt before three generations gather for the summer. Which irrigation system needs one more repair before the first dry stretch. Which air conditioner has one more season left in it—if it’s lucky.

Spring on Nantucket isn’t really a season. It’s choreography.

The painter waits for the carpenter. The carpenter waits for the electrician. The electrician waits for the plasterer. The landscaper waits for everyone else before planting the flowers that make the finished property look effortless.

If one trade falls behind, they all do.

Working on Nantucket has taught me that some of the island’s most important work happens where no one ever looks.

Visitors admire the porch, the flower beds, and the freshly painted trim. The people doing the work spend their days behind walls, beneath floors, inside attics, and along winding garden paths, making sure everything functions exactly as it should.

When everything works, nobody notices. That’s exactly the point.

Somewhere this morning, a plumber is repairing a leak beneath a two-hundred-year-old house before a family returns from the beach. Somewhere

else, a carpenter is easing a restored window sash through a narrow shell path without brushing the hydrangeas beside it. Nearby, a housekeeper is making the bed another family will fall asleep in tonight, never knowing her name but remembering how welcoming the room felt when they arrived. An HVAC technician is finding a way to bring modern comfort into a historic home without disturbing the craftsmanship that gives it its soul.

Working here demands more than skill. It demands patience.

On the mainland, forgetting a box of fasteners might cost half an hour. On Nantucket, it might mean tomorrow’s freight boat. Historic neighborhoods leave little room for staging materials. Every sheet of plywood, every pane of glass, every appliance, every bag of mortar, and every shrub may have to be carried by hand through narrow gates, over uneven cobblestones, and around gardens that already look as though they’ve always been there.

Then, almost overnight, July arrives.

Construction trailers quietly disappear. Gardens are in bloom. Restaurant patios fill with conversation. The porches are painted, the beds are made, and families settle into homes that somehow feel as though they’ve been waiting just for them. Everything looks effortless because thousands of people spent months making it that way.

Even then, the work never really stops.

The emergency plumbing call still comes in. Another rental turns over. Another lawn is cut before sunrise. Another cook begins preparing dinner hours before the first reservation arrives.

Another bartender slices another case of limes. Somewhere, someone quietly repairs the screen door a child accidentally walked through that afternoon.

One of the things I’ve always admired about Nantucket is that so many of the people building summer are living it in small pieces themselves. The carpenter heads to an evening restaurant shift. The landscaper helps in a kitchen. Teachers pick up seasonal work. College students fill whatever jobs need doing. Friends lend one another tools. Someone waits an extra five minutes at the ferry because another contractor is racing to make the boat, and people wave as they pass each other for the third time that day.

For many of us, this isn’t simply where we work. It’s home.

People often say Nantucket is beautiful because of its beaches, its history, or its architecture.

They’re right.

But I think one of its greatest beauties is something quieter. It is the community that spends months creating a season which, if they’ve done their jobs well, appears to have arrived effortlessly.

Tomorrow morning another freight boat will ease into the harbor. Another contractor will unlock a jobsite. Another gardener will kneel in the dirt. Another housekeeper will make a bed. Another cook will begin preparing dinner hours before the first reservation arrives. Most visitors will never know their names.

They aren’t looking for recognition, only the satisfaction of seeing the island ready once again. Maybe that’s the real magic of summer on Nantucket.

It isn’t waiting at the end of a shell path.

It isn’t on the ferry ride over.

It’s built.

Quietly.

Patiently.

Wednesday and Thursday highlights include a panel discussion by Wayne Maness, Nell Diamond, Josh Young, and Aerin Lauder; Flowering Outdoors: Gardens & Parties featuring Margot Shaw with an introduction by Bunny Williams; and Brushes & Blueprints: Interpreting Historic Nantucket, featuring Tom Kligerman, Doug Wright, and Tim Adams, moderated by Stacey Bewkes.

In addition, a special event celebrating design will be hosted by The Hostetler Gallery all day on Wednesday, July 15. And from 1 to 3 pm that day, eittem Founder and Creative Director Erin Saluti will meet design aficionados and show her new palette of Nantucket pastel bags at 42 Centre Street.

Nantucket by Design 2026 concludes with a popular Design Luncheon featuring Cordelia de Castellane, Artistic Director of Dior Maison and Baby Dior, and celebrated interior designer Tom Scheerer for an intimate conversation exploring the people, places, and influences that have shaped their distinctive creative worlds. Guided by Veranda Editor-in-Chief Steele Marcoux, the discussion will offer a rare look at the ideas, aesthetics, and experiences behind two of today’s most influential design voices

You’ve got to love a tournament that really doesn’t take itself too seriously. The tournament begins when someone lands the first sea-run striped bass. A sea-run striper will have sea lice on its body. That differentiates it from a holdover striper from a pond. The tournament will then run for thirty days after that first catch. Participants can earn a total of three points. One point is awarded for catching a sea-run striper. Another point is awarded if that striper is bigger than 28 inches (the legal minimum for a keeper-sized striped bass). And finally, the third point is awarded if the angler lands a bluefish during the contest period.

The points get each participant an equal number of chances to win a variety of cool prizes. I won a great fishing multi-tool this year! Fishing plugs, apparel, and gear make every participant a winner. It’s such crazy fun!

Twenty-nine anglers submitted catches during the tournament period that ran from May 15, when Homer Ray IV caught the first sea-run striper. Only two anglers managed to obtain the full three points during the 30-day window. Yeah, bluefish sure are hard to find from the shore again this year. Yikes!

The team contest involves the cumulative total of the biggest striper caught by each member of the three-person squad. My team, the Irredeemable Irrelevants, finished an irrelevant sixth place in the 2026 tournament. The team Terrible Husbands and Timmy won the team event with a great score of 114.75. That means that the average size of their striped bass submission was an amazing 38.25 inches! The second-place team, Chainsaw Island, had a very respectable score of 111.5.

Barynn Boucher had herself a great tournament. She won the award for smallest striper caught at 20 inches. Her name was pulled for a beautiful new fishing rod. And she got to fish with her dad, Paul Boucher. Barynn messaged me the following: “I would like to let Tuna know that I am blessed to be a part of this fishing community and to have the family I do. I am very proud and feel accomplished in winning my award. Even though it was a slow start of the fishing season, just being on the beach and having a line in the water is all worth it. Hav-

Paul, Barynn’s dad, won the biggest prize of the Spring Sea Run Opener. He was selected to have the honor of determining where the bulk of the tournament’s proceeds would be donated. Paul selected Autism Speaks – Nantucket to receive $3,000 from the Spring Sea Run Opener.

“I was extremely honored when Raf contacted me. This wasn’t my best spring of fishing, and I had some pretty quiet nights in the dark on the beach. But a bad day of fishing beats a good day of work anytime!”

Paul said of his choice of Autism Speaks – Nantucket, “When it came to the charity, Autism Speaks jumped out at me.” Paul added that his family knows the challenges of autism. You certainly made a great choice, Paul! Thank you!

Chuck Duce got to select the scholarship portion of the funds. He chose the Jamie Topham Scholarship Fund to receive $1,000 from the Sea Run Opener. Wow. Yeah, Chuck, that’s a very fine selection.

Oh yeah, there were some other cool awards. Matt Roberts held on to win the biggest striper of the tournament with his 39.75 inch monster. The amazing Sawyer Holland took home a bunch of loot for catching both the first bluefish as well as the first junior division striper. Sawyer is a force to be reconned with!

Our Nantucket fishing community is amazing. The results of this tournament for the past 12 years have been positive and uplifting. So yeah, I’m the big winner. Along with every other participant. Can’t wait for the August Blues tournament!

Dionis: 3 miles from town by bike on the north side of Eel Point Rd off Madaket Road. Look for the boulder marked “Dionis.” Sheltered by dunes, calm waters for swimming, safe for children; restrooms, & parking. Beachgoers can take NRTA shuttle bus to Eel Point Rd stop & walk.

Steps: Between Dionis and Jetties beaches; access from Cliff Road. No lifeguard, no facilities, very little parking. Gentle surf; sandbar. Many steep steps must be descended to get to the beach.

Jetties: Easy bike ride from town, or take the shuttle bus. Great beach for families. Lifeguards, changing rooms, playground, volleyball nets, restrooms, showers, public phones, restaurant and take-out food service. Concession and restrooms handicap accessible; boardwalk to the beach. Brant Point: Easy walk or bike ride from town. No lifeguard. Strong current; experienced swimmers; beach drops off suddenly under the water. Scenic beach with Brant Point Lighthouse; nice to sit and watch the boats rounding the point. Here is where to go to wave goodbye to friends and family departing on the Steamship.

Children’s: Harbor Beach, an easy walk from town down So. Beach Street and off Harbor View Way. Flotation devices are not permitted within the guarded area. Ideal for small children; park, playground, and bandstand; lifeguard, restrooms, showers, food service, picnic tables. Food, playground, and rest room are all accessible. Activities sponsored by Park & Recreation Commission are often held at this beach during the summer.

Francis Street: Five-minute walk from Main Street. Calm harbor waters for swimming; no lifeguard. Jungle gym, kayak rentals, bathroom.

SOUTH SHORE - OCEAN BEACHES

Cisco Beach: Four-mile bike ride to end of Hummock Pond Road. Heavy surf; lifeguard. No facilities. Parking. Rip currents can be strong.

Ladies Beach: To access, turn left at the end of Bartlett Farm Road. No facilities; no lifeguard. Limited parking. Rip current can be strong; heavy surf.

Miacomet Beach: at the end of Miacomet Road. Some parking. Surf and rip currents can be strong on the ocean side. No facilities or food service. This beach is near Miacomet Pond, but the pond is currently closed due to harmful algae.

South Shore Beach: at the end of South Shore Rd. Limited parking; difficult to access beach, 4WD is advisable. No lifeguard; no facilities.

Surfside: Located at the end of Surfside Road, a three-mile ride on paved bike path or take the shuttles. Easy to park. Plenty of surf, wide beach is good for picnics, beach games, and surfcasting. Kite flying west of Surfside Beach is acceptable; for safety reasons, please do not fly kites east of Surfside toward the airport. Due to the number of people who frequent Surfside Beach during the day, it is inadvisable to fly kites during the peak beachgoing hours. Lifeguard, restrooms, showers, public phones, food service. Shuttle service from town to Surfside Beach is available seasonally.

Fisherman’s Beach: Located between Surfside Beach and Nobadeer. No parking; Beach access via steep wooden steps. Plenty of surf, wide beach is good for picnics, beach games, and surfcasting. No lifeguard; no facilities.

Nobadeer: Located near the airport. Limited parking; difficult to access beach. Plenty of surf, wide beach is good for picnics, beach games, and surfcasting. No lifeguard; no facilities.

Madequecham: Land Bank property at the end of Madequecham Valley Road; rough sand road. Parking. No facilities; no lifeguards. Rip current can be strong; heavy surf.

Tom Nevers (“Pebble Beach“): Surf can be heavy; very coarse sand. No lifeguard; no facilities. Good for fishing. Strong rip currents; heavy surf. Access to the beach can be difficult.

WESTERN SHORE - OCEAN BEACHES

Madaket: As far west as you can go, six-mile bike ride on scenic, paved bike path, or take the shuttle bus. Heavy surf, lifeguard, restrooms. Famous for its incredible sunsets.

EASTERN SHORE - OCEAN BEACHES

Siasconset: Regular shuttle bus service or seven-mile ride on paved bike path. Surf can be heavy; lifeguard. Food available in nearby village of ’Sconset. Low Beach: 4WD access. Surf can be heavy; no lifeguard.

BAY & POND BEACHES

Miacomet Pond: This fresh water pond is currently closed due to harmful algae. Pocomo Beach: Great for kayaking and to learn to windsurf. Just west of the Head of the Harbor. Good for children. No lifeguards, no facilities.

Eel Point: Good for fishing and watching the sunset. No lifeguard; no facilities. Limited parking. Rip currents can be strong.

Coskata-Coatue and Great Point: at the end of Wauwinet Road, past The Wauwinet Inn. Coskata-Coatue Wildlife Refuge managed by Trustees of Reservations; beach sticker required for vehicles from Trustees of Reservations. Great for fishing and for seeing Great Point Lighthouse up close. Rolling dunes, bayberry, beach plum, heather, and beach grass. Salt marsh and maritime shrubland. The largest red cedar savanna and woodland in New England. Gray and harbor seals. Public restrooms available at the lighthouse Memorial Day-Columbus Day. Sections of the refuge are sometimes closed to protect nesting shorebirds. Dogs permitted only from Sept. 16 thru March 31 and must be leashed at all times. Sesachacha Pond: off Polpis Road. Great for families; warm water; no facilities; no lifeguard. Parking. Near the Audubon Sesachacha Heathlands and Wildlife Sanctuary.

BEACH SAFETY

•Learn to swim. If you can’t swim an overhead stroke for at least 15 minutes you should not be in the ocean. •Never swim alone. Always swim with a buddy, and swim near a lifeguard whenever possible. •Stay out of the “surf zone” where the waves break at the shoreline. Waves are at their greatest force here, and even a small wave can lift you up and throw you headfirst into the sand. •Never run from the beach into the water and dive headfirst into the waves. Sandbars that cannot be seen from the surface may be present and/or the water may be too shallow. •Don’t jump or dive into the water from a pier or rock jetty. From a pier or jetty, water appears much deeper than it really is. What looks like 10 or 20 feet of water may only be 2 to 3 feet deep. Diving in could be fatal. The same applies for jumping headfirst into the ocean or a wave from a surfboard – don’t do it! It’s not a risk worth taking. •If you are body surfing or boogie boarding, always keep your arms out in front of you to protect your head and neck. •A rip current will pull you away from the shore, but it will not pull you under. If you’re caught in a rip current, do not swim toward the shore! Instead, swim parallel to the shore, until you’re out of the rip current. Then, swim in to shore. •Never drink alcohol or use drugs at the beach. It clouds your ability to make wise decisions, and that could be fatal! •Take direction from lifeguards at all times.

Make sure you don’t miss the fishing while you’re here on Nantucket! The HERBERT T sport fishing boat will take you to where the blues are biting. Captain Fred Tonkin is an experienced fisherman and will provide you with all the equipment for up to six people to fish at one time. He takes four 2-1/2-hour trips a day: 7 am, 10 am, 1 pm and 4 pm, and the fishing starts just 15 minutes from the dock. The HERBERT T is fully licensed and insured and is fully equipped electronically. While you’re on Nantucket, do as the islanders do - catch some blues! $150 per person (minimum of 2 people). Conversation with a First Lady

Tickets are still available, but are going fast, for a special edition of Dreamland Conversations with former First Lady Dr. Jill Biden. On Saturday, July 18 at 11am, she will have an intimate on-stage conversation with Tim Ehrenberg of Tim Talks Books about her White House experiences.

This conversation marks the release of her new memoir, View from the East Wing. She will reflect on four years marked by the COVID-19 pandemic, the shadow of January 6th, and her tireless advocacy for women’s health, military families, and education. A New York Times bestselling author and the first First Lady to hold an outside job during her husband’s presidency, she offers a candid, personal account of pivotal moments in American life, told by someone who lived it from the inside.

Immediately following the talk, a separately ticketed VIP wine reception will be held in the Harborview Room and Deck offering a meet-and-greet opportunity with Dr. Biden.

Tickets for the conversation in the Main Theatre are $84 and included a signed copy of her book. Tickets for the VIP reception are $143. Both tickets are available at nantucketdreamland.org, while they last.
