Last September, Rae announced that she would be streaming less frequently to live a more balanced life. A streamer of over eight years, clocking in long hours everyday on Twitch and Youtube, Rae’s was supported by her fans. The same month, Rae attended her first New York Fashion Week wearing a sheer cut-out dress from Mugler. Just a day before, she appeared in the billboards of Times Square as the new face of British fitness apparel brand Gymshark.
“That is another thing that I have been very excited about recently in life is focusing on fashion,” Rae says. “I’ve been trying to up my style. Going to Fashion Week was surreal because it really opened my eyes to how cool pieces can look. It was a great experience, and I’ve never done anything like that before. Just meeting new people and seeing all these different styles. It was

Insights on 900 female gamers across US, China and Germany reveals the alarming degree of gender-based discrimination females face when gaming. The experiences range from being called names, to mansplaining, sexist jibes like “go, make a sandwich” to the more dangerous rape threats. As a result, the survey finds, 59% of women switch off their voice chat, or (55%) use either nongendered or male profiles to mask their real identities.

“Is that a female?” another asks. “I want to (beep) (beep) (beep), baby.”
“ Nine out of 10 times people online tell me to be in the kitchen,” said Jasmine Jada, a 23-year-old full time streamer from Leeds, UK in a 2021 BBC interview.
In Jada’s experience the worst games for misogynistic, homophobic and racial slurs are shooter games like Call of Duty, Counter-Strike and Valorant. There are nearly 494 million female gamers in Asia, that’s 38% of the esports community in the region, witnessing twice a year-on-year surge in growth rate (14.8%) than the overall population (7.8%).
Yet, the sexual and sexist abuse which popular gamers like Sunpi and Jada experience on daily basis are in no way limited to geography or unique in nature.
TOXIC ENVIRONMENTS
“I’ve [seen] on TikTok how females have to switch their microphones off but to deep dive into this world is shocking. I’m not a gamer, but gaming is meant to be therapeutic and an escape from reality; it’s unsettling to know that even in that realm women have to hide their identities,” adds Smith. The male
gamers involved were “aware” of the issue, the team tells us, but having such toxicity spewed at them left the “visibly upset by the end of it”. Shane Geffen, executive creative director at Hero, adds layers of behavioural hatred extends beyond the female gender.
“The more we went into the gaming world, the overwhelming evidence we found that it was a toxic environment for female, trans, and nonbinary players—a issue that was largely going unchecked and ignored.”
BUILDING AN INCLUSIVE COMMUNITY
Creating an inclusive gaming community requires clear actions and a shared effort to make women feel welcome. One of the first steps is promoting positive representation in games. By including diverse female characters and stories that connect with women, developers can create relatable and empowering experiences. If that sounds familiar, it’s probably because that notion captures the Buffy the Vampire Slayer essence. Lollipop Chainsaw has sold upwards of a million copies to date and in doing so, solidified itself as a cult classic to many. I’ve got fond of it when it came out, much to the chagrin of my ex. It was a weekend filled with bliss, allowing their lead
to play the game myself. controller in hand, diving back into the vibrant, chaotic world of Lollipop Chainsaw. I still remember watching playthroughs of it when I was younger, captivated by Juliet Starling‘s punk-cheerleader style and the game’s ridiculous, over-the-top horror comedy.

In Lollipop Chainsaw, you play as Juliet, a nubile cheerleader in a skimpy cheer leading outfit cutting zombies up with a giant chainsaw, oh and you carry around the disembodied head of your boyfriend. There are six levels in this game, spanning high school, to a farm, to an arcade.

The highlights of the game are the boss battles, which are all musically themed. One boss is a viking metal-head in a flying viking ship. The farm level features a hippy playing a sitar. The final boss is literally a giant and strong Elvis monster.

There isn’t much time spent examining how such a seemingly preventable event
might be possible; Detroit is primarily focused on androids’ experiences during the process of their awakening, and their shock when looking at humanity with eyes unclouded for the first time. Ultimately, it’s up to you to decide how they react in the face of all the adversity, with each choice leading to different consequences that reflect the complexity of their struggle for identity and freedom.

ADVENTURE
The Final Season is the most focused arc in the series since its debut, with the adopted mother/son dynamic between Clem and A.J. creating some of the most harrowing choices I’ve made in a Telltale game. On a global level, it also offers new perspectives about the walkers, attempting and occasionally succeeding in showing us that there’s more to them than primal noises and a lust for human flesh.
They were human once before the outbreak, so does Clem and A.J.’s reflexive response of killing every walker they see need to be changed, too? The Final Season points at the old habits breaking as new ways to live in this world arise and hope trickles in. The weight of your choices serves as a reminder that even in a world overrun by a world of danger.
