Catch-Up Quick: It’s Friday!

arangka, Marikina, City — Catch-Up Friday is being put into action by Barangka National High school for the first time on Friday February 2, 2024 Under the DEAR program introduced by DepEd this January 12. The students and teachers showed positive feedbacks on the Drop Everything And Read (DEAR) program from the past January 12, and 19. but the teachers keep the Catchup Friday plans as a surprise to the students for the upcoming Friday February 2. The DEAR program and Catch-up Fridays main objective is to help students improve their reading comprehension, reinforce learning, and overall enhance the students academic performance. Fur-
thermore Catch-up Fridays shall not be graded since its main purpose is to help the student improve basic reading and writing skills. Due to the Philippines having one of the lowest scores among the 81 countries in the recent Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) with the a score of 120 points, lower than the average scores in reading, the DepEd decided to release the first memorandum of 2024 that introduces Catch-up Fridays. Fridays all throughout the year is specified to be Catchup Fridays which is said to be implementing National Reading Program (NRP) that allocates reading intervention and enhancement activities, and promotes the rest of the day for values, health and peace education for the students.

the contestants from BNHS bagged multiple awards. Led by their advisers, Ms. Krista S. Ramos, Ms. Sharmaine M. Tamayo, and Mr. Sherneil Ben A. Lianza, the BNHSians did not fail to bring home major awards from the three different categories: Stemtokperiment, Poster Making and Siyensikula.
