All-City Bands Conductors Jesús Cortés-Sanchez is a 2018 and 2019 alumnus of the five-year Integrated Bachelor’s/ Master’s program at UConn’s Neag School of Education, where he focused on music education. Throughout his time at UConn, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music, Bachelor of Science in Education, and a Master's in Curriculum and Instruction. A summertime teaching artist at Yale School of Music’s Morse Summer Music Academy, Cortés-Sanchez also performed on two tracks of the album American Dreamers (Voices of Hope, Music of Freedom), which this past year won three Grammy Awards. In the spring of 2019, he also served as a featured speaker at the UConn Neag School of Education Undergraduate Commencement ceremony. He currently teaches elementary instrumental music in West Hartford Public Schools. He teaches 4th and 5th grade band as well as 4th and 5th grade strings. Ashley Hale was a Morse Postgraduate Fellow (2018—19) for the Music in Schools Initiative at the Yale School of Music, and was actively involved in the program since her first year at Yale. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Oberlin College and Conservatory of Music, and most recently graduated from the Yale School of Music with her Master’s. Hale plays all kinds of music, and even double-majored in both Classical and Jazz at Oberlin. She has studied with some of the greats, including Roy Poper, Allan Dean, Eddie Henderson, and Sean Jones. Hale has 8 years of teaching experience and is also on the faculty at the Neighborhood Music School, where she teaches trumpet students from beginning to advanced players and looks forward to continuing her teaching career.
José Lara holds an M.S. in Music Education from the University of Bridgeport and earned a B.A. in Music with a concentration in World Traditions from Southern Connecticut State University. He has been a music educator and ensemble director for over 12 years in the New Haven Public Schools and is currently the instrumental music teacher for John S. Martinez Sea and Sky STEM Magnet School. Mr. Lara has worked closely with Morse Summer Music Academy, the All-City Honors Ensembles, and has been a guest artist and ensemble coach at the Neighborhood Music School Summer Jazz Intensive as well as an active instructor for the NMS Jazz department. He has performed both locally and internationally with ensembles from a variety of genres including classical, jazz, Latin jazz, salsa, merengue, funk, and rhythm and blues.

Rubén Rodríguez is a native of Colombia and has studied music at the Conservatoire National Supérieur Musique et Danse de Lyon, Conservatoire National de Region de Paris, and the Yale School of Music. For more than 20 years, he has been performing (in chamber groups, concert bands, and symphonic orchestras; as a soloist and recording artist), teaching, coaching, conducting ensembles, and promoting music as a tool of social change in South America, Europe, and the United States. He has created and coordinated several artistic projects in underprivileged communities bringing music into the lives of thousands of children. Currently, he is the Director of the Music in Schools Initiative of the Yale School of Music, which partners with New Haven Public Schools to support music educators as they develop broader and more robust programs in their schools. Music in Schools Initiative is serving around 650 New Haven Public School students each year, most of them on a weekly basis, through the In-School Mentorship program, All-City Ensembles, Workshops, the Yale/New Haven Solo Showcase, and the Morse Summer Music Academy. Myles Ross is the band and chorus director at Worthington Hooker School in New Haven. He teaches band, chorus, and general music for grades 5–8 as well as the jazz band and select choir at the school. He is also the musical director for their annual school musical. Growing up, he participated in band since the 4th grade through high school, and went on to study music education at Central Connecticut State University. As a classically trained pianist, he enjoys practicing the piano regularly, accompanying and directing his choirs, and learning new pieces. In his free time, he enjoys reading, learning new languages, singing with the Moniuszko Choir of Hartford, and practicing a wide variety of instruments. Aidan Zimmermann maintains a diverse career as a chamber musician, orchestral performer, and music educator. He has been awarded the Henry and Lucy Moses Fellowship to study tuba performance at the Yale School of Music. Before coming to Yale, Aidan completed an Advanced Performance Studies certificate from Bard College Conservatory of Music in New York and received his Bachelor of Music degree with a minor in Music Business from the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami where he graduated with honors. Having been raised in a fostering music community, Aidan aspires to bring a fiery passion and excellence to his teaching. During his time at the Frost School of Music, Zimmermann held an assistantship with the Shalala Music Reach Program. His duties included teach private lessons and group lessons to students in Miami Dade county and South Miami schools, as well as conducting after school ensembles at Mays Conservatory. During his summers, Aidan has worked with nationally recognized marching band programs in Texas, Florida, and New York. His private lesson students have advanced in regional and district honor band competitions as well as state solo and ensembles. This February, Aidan Zimmermann will attend the Sphinx Connect 2020 Convention in Detroit, MI, as a recipient of the Bank of America Fellowship in education and performance. Sphinx Connect empowers and celebrates diverse leadership in the evolving world of classical music.
