All-City Honors Ensembles Conductors Jaminda Blackmon has been teaching music for ten years. A graduate from Bridgewater State Collee, she is the general music teacher at Wexler Grant Community School where she also teaches choir and is the director of the school’s theatre program. When not teaching, she can be found singing soprano with the Heritage Chorale of New Haven, and with the Messiah Baptist Church’s Mass and MC-YA Choirs. Nick Drabik is the band director at Mauro Sheridan Interdistrict Magnet School in New Haven, CT, where he teaches 4th–8th grade band and strings. Mr. Drabik is enjoying his third year directing the All-City Honors Intermediate Band as well as directing bands at both Spring and Winter festivals. At the end of the day he loves to go home to his beautiful 10-month-old, Olivia, his wife, cat, and dog. Ashley Hale is the Morse Postgraduate Fellow for the Music in Schools Initiative at the Yale School of Music, and was actively involved in the program since her first year at Yale. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Oberlin College and Conservatory of Music, and most recently graduated from the Yale School of Music with her Master’s. Hale plays all kinds of music, and even double-majored in both Classical and Jazz at Oberlin. She has studied with some of the greats, including Roy Poper, Allan Dean, Eddie Henderson, and Sean Jones. Hale has 8 years of teaching experience and is also on the faculty at the Neighborhood Music School, where she teaches trumpet students from beginning to advanced players and looks forward to continuing her teaching career. Jose Lara holds an M.S. in Music Education from the University of Bridgeport and earned a B.A. in Music with a concentration in World Traditions from Southern Connecticut State University. He has been a music educator and ensemble director for over 12 years in the New Haven Public Schools and is currently the instrumental music teacher for John S. Martinez Sea and Sky STEM Magnet School. Mr. Lara has worked closely with Morse Summer Music Academy, the All-City Honors ensembles, and has been a guest artist and ensemble coach at the Neighborhood Music School Summer Jazz Intensive as well as an active instructor for the NMS Jazz department. He has performed both locally and internationally with ensembles from a variety of genres including classical, jazz, Latin jazz, salsa, merengue, funk, and rhythm and blues. Myles Ross is the band and chorus director at Worthington Hooker School in New Haven. He teaches band, chorus, and general music for grades 5–8 as well as the jazz band and select choir at the school. He is also the musical director for their annual school musical. Growing up, he participated in band since the 4th grade through high school, and went on to study music education at Central Connecticut State University. As a classically trained pianist, he enjoys practicing the piano regularly, accompanying and directing his choirs, and learning new pieces. In his free time, he enjoys reading, learning new languages, singing with the Moniuszko Choir of Hartford, and practicing a wide variety of instruments.
