football club notes seniors
A Grade: Mount Burr on their home ground was never going to be an easy task. We knew they were going to come out firing because their season was on the line. Credit to our boys we stood strong and matched there heat with us leading the first break by 3 goals. In the second half seen us come out even stronger with us hi ng the contest and winning the ball out of the middle with the likes of Sam Waring and Will Chay se ng the tone and providing us with lots of shots on goals with a major goal kicker being Jed Telfer with 7 straight on the day. Overall was a good day out with a 4 quarter effort giving us the 80 point win at the end of the day
B Grade: What a day for the Acky boys with li le brother Jordy stepping up to fill in the B grade playing alongside older brothers Tyson and Cam, he done a ripping job with a few good tackles and kicking a nice li le goal from the pocket, boys were excited to have the skipper back from A grade du es also, we got off to a great start and finished off very strongly Tom Bell was best on with a bag of 9 goals, Raysa and Sully gave us first use out of the middle along with Jimmy Telford who used the ball brilliant every me he got it in his hands. Sid Reeves rounded out the best with a good hit out in the ruck. We look forward to a week off and get stuck into some work to prep ourselves for finals.
Senior Colts: Last round saw us come up against a quality side in Mt Burr. The boys sadly started off really slow and let them get the early jump. A er half me the footy began to be be er but the Burr were just too good. Only a couple games le now so hopefully we can finish the year off strong and play some team footy Best were 1st best Denton’s SportsPower award went to Huddy Nowak. 2nd best the stumpy award went to Jordy Acky. 3rd best the Gino's Pizza award went to Eli Sims. 4th best the Ladies
Commi ee award went to Riley Haines. 5th best the Pete Walter's award went to Oskar Howell.
Junior Colts: Another pleasant day for footy took us to Mt Burr to take on a undermanned Mossies. Well done to our boys who stepped up and played for the Burr to make it an even 18 on the field, those that played definitely tried their hardest. It was a comfortable win but it was pleasing to see the boys really share the ball around and gave some players opportuni es that don't normally get them, especially up forward where a few boys managed to get their first goals for the year. Tommy Atkinson started down back and then finished off in the middle, he was clean and direct whenever he touched it and used the ball well. Paddy Fitzgerald con nued some good form, this me in the middle of the ground where he played hard and got plenty of the footy, and did the same down back later on where he a acked the ball well. Leni Clifford provided a good focal point up forward before playing the second half for Mt Burr, where he con nued to try his best and got some good touches. Similarly, Alex Sutherland was good up forward where he doesn't normally play, ge ng a couple goals before he also tried his hardest for Mt Burr in second half. Sam Lang got his chance up forward and bagged a goal while also presen ng well and ge ng some good touches. The bye has allowed us to freshen up before Robe and the run into finals.
Under 11: Last round we played at the Burr. It was a great day for it, the sun was out. The Burr boys brought plenty of contest to the footy. It was good skills all day with plenty of kicks hi ng the target, shepherds, tackles and goals. Best players were Tyler Duff (Sportspower), Parker Wells (Toy Kingdom), Colton Redman (Hatherleigh ladies commi ee), Arthur Wakelin (Sco Redman), Lincoln Sharp (HFC football).
ROBE ROOSTERS
football
Junior Colts: A really pleasing 4 quarter effort by every player. The boys played with great spirit, worked hard at every contest, and applied pressure when they didn't have the ball; and just kept compe ng. It was a real team effort, sharing the ball around, and taking pride in their delivery to teammates. Now for Hatherleigh, the same performance is an absolute must! I reckon our recent form is good enough to give them a real reality check. The outcome will clearly determine our future. It would be fantas c to finish the minor round with a win. Be brave boys and take every challenge on. Don't take a backward step. Enjoy being compe ve and doing your best.
B Grade: Was an interes ng day in Robe with fog coming in and out all day. As per other weeks, the reserves game seemed to get the best part of the weather for the day. Mt Burr came out strong and had us on the back foot. Took us 10 minutes of the first quarter to get full control of the game. Tom Kurray showed great composure out the centre to help se le the team down. Crossy and Bram ba led hard all day pu ng their head over the ball. Lachie Hentscke walked away with 10 goals and the skip (Sam Huebner) looked dangerous down forward kicking 5. Sam Thomson’s first game in the reserves showed excellent presence at centre half forward, boo ng 4 goals to his name. The back 6 where solid all day and nothing went past them for the last 3 quarters. Every week it’s ge ng harder to pick best on players, they are really playing
team football. This week we travel to Hatherleigh for first and second ba le. All I can promise, it will be an exci ng game to watch. See you all there. Go Roosters!
NANGWARRY SAINTS
Was a sunny day in Glencoe last Saturday, perfect football condi ons. The Junior Colts kicked off with a solid performance and got the points. Senior Colts was a very physical game and showed just how close the compe on is heading into finals. Our A Grade boys were compe ve all game and gave the crowd a game to remember. It is really good to see Taz and his boys play a great game of footy, one we can all be proud of
Thank you to all who a ended the Red, Black & White Ball last Saturday night. It is always nice to see everyone get dressed up and let their hair down. Tonight we host our annual auc on night so s ck around for tea and support the club.
Under 11: This game saw us hit the road to Glencoe. It was a beau ful morning and the kid's ball handling skills were put to the test and they were able to show us that all their hard work at trainings has paid off As we approach the last games of the season it's great to be able to see how the kid's skills and development have come a long way.
Junior Colts: Interes ng start at Glencoe last week. We took a half a game to get our game going and it was quite an even tussle. We definitely squandered a few easy opportuni es early. Once we did get our game going we looked really good - switching the ball to the fat side and ge ng some good penetra on inside 50 set up some really good goals. One thing I loved coaching last week were that there were no passengers - everyone did their bit, which was great. Some of our decision making and ball movement really was first class for an under 14's side and our kids should be really proud with how we've played 4 quarters.
Senior Colts: We played a tough and ght game against top team Glencoe with both teams struggling to break free for the first 3 quarters. Unfortunately our injuries that have been piling up lately finally took a toll and Glencoe were able to pull away in the last quarter. A really solid effort but it also showed that we s ll have some things to work on in our last couple of games. Some standouts for the game were Alex
B Grade: Was very happy with our efforts on Saturday. I thought that we played very well and definitely showed a lot of improvement from when we first played Glencoe. Credit to our lads we went in undermanned again and had to get under 17s to help us out but the way we played over the game was very pleasing to see and enjoyable to watch. Glencoe got the be er of us towards the end of the game but we never gave up and showed a lot of heart. Hopefully we can get a win this week for our last home game for the year
A Grade: Can easily get used to playing in perfect condi ons as again the sun shone upon us at Glencoe. Glencoe oval has been a bogey for us in previous years and one we wanted to rec fy. A few changes to our side from the previous week due to injury we were s ll confident going into the game due to our good form. Both teams started the game well and an entertaining standard of game was on from the outset. The ball transi oned both ways all quarter with Glencoe holding onto a 1 goal lead at the first break. We started the second quarter slowly before regaining our composure and playing the football we know we can produce and going into the hal ime break with some good form being only 2 goals down. The score line remained the same for the remainder of the game with both sides enjoying patches of good momentum without either side being able to get a stranglehold on the game. The hard work that we started back in December is really paying off. Our structures and team cohesiveness is really coming together. A testament to the group for their hard work and persistence. Goal kickers for the day were Jack Pudney 4, Elwood Geary 2, Andy Hyland, Calais Borman and Archer Virtanen 1 each. Best players - 1. George McWaters, 2. Jack Pudney, 3. Joel Virtanen, 4. Sco e Brooksby, 5. Lennox Lewis, 6. Josh Weedon. This week we look forward to taking on Kongorong on our home deck on what will be our last home game of the season. See you all there.
Lynch, Cooper Harris and Toby Grigg.

Perfect condi ons in Kongorong as we hosted Kalangadoo last week.
Under 11: Sunny condi ons last week, how good is it to see blue skies a er the last couple of wet games. Last week saw us take on Kalangadoo at home. The boys were all pumped up and ready to play a er a week off. Our backline got a real workout but we showed how strong we can be in defence and were able to turnover a lot of play as the boys showed up some pre y impressive tackling skills. Harry C, Cooper, Ted and Archie worked hard all game with tackling and turning over the ball with good support from the other boys to clear it out of the goal area. Brodie put his height to good use and was able to get a touch on the ball mul ple mes to prevent what would have been some definite goals. Was great to see the boys u lising the whole field and playing the ball on the wings to spread out play rather than clu ering the centre. Looking forward to Nangwarry this weekend. Awards went to Harry Collins (Intersport voucher), Cooper Jenkins (presidents award), Ted Ellis (coaches award), Archie Gillin (club award), Toby Telford (Brant family award) and Brodie Stephens (Donut King award). Congratula ons to all the boys, you played so well against tough compe on - great team effort.
Junior Colts: Cracking day for footy at Kongorong and a good game was played against Kalangadoo for our junior colts. The kid's did their best in defence. Trying to move the footy forward by maintaining possession is ge ng be er. With just two games of footy to go, the year has gone so fast, and it's great to see the kid's improving and enjoying playing footy. Awards went to Noah von Stanke-Dowie (Lucas Family Award), Angus Maidment (Spot On Fishing), Koby Galloway (Aussie Disposals), Connor Gordon (Janeway Plumbing), Havana Beard (Club Voucher) and Lola Geddes (Paradise Pizza).
Senior Colts: We took on the undermanned Kalangadoo team with the understanding that for us to become a consistent performing group we would need to treat this game like any other. We began the match well and played our brand of football for the first half of the match, execu ng at stoppage and playing front half football. At the main break we rotated our players who had volunteered to help out our opposi on and the challenge was put to our group to maintain the standard of football they had played in the first half. Unfortunately, complacency set in and our group were
o en second to the ball or wai ng for someone else to win the contest for them and we played out a goalless third quarter. Our output in the contest picked up marginally in the last and we benefited on the scoreboard from some passages of overlap movement. We will con nue this week in our pursuit to bridge the gap between our best and our worst and make good football a habit and not a choice. Value awards went to Jobe Janeway (MT Wheels), Jai Hillstone (Ma hew’s Petroleum), Luke Allen (Mick Mullan Plumbing), Blake Telford (DA’Leni Meats), Logan Cordy (Coaches Award) and Bam Kent (Badenochs Deli).
B Grade: Hard fought game and again we have some great posi ves to take out of it. Interes ng age demographics again for the team. We were either over 35 or under 19, with only a couple in between that age group. This is not conducive to being able to win lots of games but we are building a great team culture and earning respect from opponents, which is really pleasing. Big thanks to Tommy Ellis, Pete Gordon and Heath McShane for helping us out. Michael Waters, Paul Ellis, Cohen Janeway, Harrison Elletson, Alex Forman and Shaun Beard got our awards. As always thanks to award sponsors Collins Court Butchers, The Commercial Hotel, BCF, Mitre 10, Pick Ave Deli and the Club.
A Grade: We came out with a different vibe last week which transferred onto the field and rolled into us having a great start to the game. For the first 2 quarters Ethan Norman and young Jobe Janeway gave the onballers first use. Jobe con nued well in the ruck all day and to his credit did a great job. Sjaakie, Will Vickery and Shaun Madden did an awesome job down back holding down the fort while Lukey Mac and Tommy Hunter provided a target up forward. Brodie von Stanke-Dowie worked relessly up and down the ground. Unfortunately the boys let the 3rd quarter slip but to their credit come back in the last and didn't allow Kalangadoo an easy way out. On to Nangwarry this week, which will be good to see how we compete. Awards went to Sjaakie Duivenvoorde (Commercial Hotel), Jobe Janeway (Collins Court Butchers), Tyrone Rayner (BCF), Will Vickery (Club Tea), Corben O’Dea (Pick Ave Deli) and Ethan Norman (Club Tea).
Ladies Day is coming up so be sure
grab your cket! We will also have the Port Mac locals “Saltair” playing on the 24th (bay game) as well so be sure to s ck around! Go Hawks!
PORT MACDONNELL DEMONS
A Grade: Pt MacDonnell 12.15 def Tantanoola 10.4. We may have had a foggy start in the Bay, but Tantanoola was bathed in sunshine and the oval in peak condi on, so you couldn't get a be er day for footy. Right from the start we had plenty of the ball but could not quite make it hurt on the scoreboard kicking 1.7 in the 1st quarter alone. Tant, to their credit, con nued with the pressure and by half me the game there was only a 2-point margin and could go either way. Our third quarter saw us take control of the game with our presence in front of goals more accurate from every angle. The warmth of the day slowed us a li le toward the end, but a consistent effort put the win in our hands. Will Macdonald and Tim Sullivan (1st & 2nd) gave us superior strength and height right across the ground and were a consistent force throughout the game. Chris an Howle and Colby Munro (3rd & 4th) mopped up along the flanks, taking the ball forward at every opportunity. Kyall McClean and Riley Morgan (5th & 6th) round out the BP list with their determined efforts from the backlines and through the midfield. Goal kickers included Chris an Howle 4, Tim Sullivan 3, and Jake Schleter, Alex Ridding, Je A ard, Ned Wilke and Will MacDonald with 1 each. Thanks again to the Senior Colts Harry Carroll, Koby Stratman and Wil Cameron for their courageous efforts. Next is Glencoe and our last home game before the end of the season, and we can take nothing for granted… the finals are but a couple of weeks away… so train hard to play hard! Go Demons!
B Grade: Pt MacDonnell 13.9 def Tantanoola 11.5. Well! Here
we are… another sunny Saturday (no rain in sight, again... sigh!) and nearly another season over and done! Where did that me go? Some of us will think great, my Saturdays are my own again. I'm not going to be limping/hur ng on a Sunday… this will be my last year! However you feel about it, the party has to end some me but I wonder what the shape of footy will be like next year in the “Family League”. With a mix of old and new kids on the block, the game shaped up to be a close one and with the help of the boy band (Snr Colts) Archie New, Connor Richards, Je Lewis and Kur s Lasle , we headed in the right (One) direc on and had enough legs le in us to come away with a win. Crooner Baz “Frankie” O'Dine (BOG) did it 'his way' through the packs and created play wherever he went while “Backstreet Boy” Brodie Dixon (2nd) kept the beat going along the flanks, pushing the ball forward at every opportunity. Archie “Harry Styles” New and Joel (Yesterdays Hero JPY circa '75) Newton-Anderson came in at 3rd and 4th respec vely with their individual style and up tempo play while Adam Kuhl (5th) and Connor Richards (6th) showed how “NSYNC” they were, clearing the midfield and picking up the turnovers with ease. It was a reasonable “5 Seconds of Summer” on the scoreboard with Simon “Buble” Merre and Bradley “Braithwaite” Neale kicking 3 each, Archie New with 2, and Ben “ZZ Top” McGregor, Brodie Dixon, Connor Richards and Mason “Barnesy” Brown with 1 apiece. The beat goes on and so will the B grade! It's Glencoe next in front of a home crowd and like the Hunters and Collectors “we will search for that Holy Grail!” Go Demons!

With the end of the season quickly approaching we had our second to last home game of the season against Nangwarry coming away with three wins for the day. Thank you Min, for taking happy snaps of the fellas. Also thank you to the junior players and parents who were on the tea roster Saturday night.
We would love to see everyone there suppor ng us down at the bay. Best was Bailey who played with heart all day, Jed using his speed and skills, Kaleb rebounding in defence and rucking, Tighe Hurley shu ng down a prominent opposi on, Tyrone excellent in the ruck and Declan ght down back.
senior colts
junior colts
Junior Colts: Coming up against an older and more experienced Nangwarry we were keen to challenge them. The first quarter being an even tussle, both teams having plenty of it with young Lachy ge ng us on the board early. In the second we con nued to push Nangwarry, trailling by only 2 points. Nangwarry picked up their work rate in the second half kicking six goals to our one in the second half. We move onto Port Mac this week keen to compete again. Best was Jack playing some great footy, Ryley D always improving, Hamish who also kicked three and young Jasmine and Alejandro rounded out the best.
Senior Colts: Huge game on the line with our boys coming up against an opposi on who bet them in the first round and keen to flip the result. The first term was hot and contested with a few tussles here and there. We slo ed a couple of goals before le ng Nangwarry score one late. Second term Nangwarry bought the heat and we held onto them and slo ed some great goals to keep the lead. The third term was another ght tussle with both teams not giving an inch before Brodie kicked a nice goal, well set up by team play. We lost a player in the last, but it made us somewhat improve kicking three and running away with the win. It was a very high standard of junior footy, great for our league. This week we take on Port Mac in another huge game.
Reserves: Once again, we took the field with almost a full team of senior footballers with a few more to come in. We are keen to see what we can achieve. The first half we had a heap of the ball but couldn't put them to bed. In the second half we pilled on 10 goals and won by 80 points with Dane slo ng another seven goals having a great year playing deep forward. Best was Trent who's ge ng be er with age, Dane, captain Jason having a great year, James in defence and Tom running on ball.
Seniors: A game we were confident in doing our job and playing for each other. Credit to Nangwarry who are con nually improving and adding some youth every me we play. For a day that skills should have shone through there were moments that we lacked cohesiveness, but importantly we trudged on to get the win. Nangwarry came at us in the third and we got away from them in the last with some good efforts up forward winning by 20 points. Clear best on ground was Ma using his precise field kicking and great set of hands marking plenty in defence. Captain Dylan con nually proves why he's a strong leader of our club. Patrick always pu ng his body on the line and snagged a couple. Sam repelling out of defence and snagging a ripper goal, Boyd playing well and a shout out to our Murphy Mascot for the day, li le Jakey. Great to see him giving Reece a few coaching ps.

football club notes
Junior Colts: The boys pressure last week was terrific. They pushed to every contest and tackled well. The best thing the boys did was their desire to put their head over the ball. Best players were Archer for his best game of the season and Noah as well. Reed was dominant again and Jackson had a career best straight lining the ball and running hard around the ground. Looking forward to our last home game this week.
Senior Colts: The senior colts boys were able to put together 4 good quarters of football last week against Robe. Missing a couple of players saw a few of the other boys step up to play some of their best football for the year. This week we come up against the Tant boys who will be determined to knock off their school mates.
B Grade: Foggy condi ons greeted us at Robe for what was bound to be a tough game for our depleted side. We came out in the first 5 minutes with real intensity and purpose and managed to get the first goal on the board. Unfortunately it was to be our only goal of the game as Robe were way to strong for us for the remainder of the match. Credit to the boys though as they never gave up. Best players were Ed & Harry who con nue their strong form, Lachie had a good game and showed us glimpses of the pace he talks about but we had never seen before, Liam Whi y got over his jet lag to compete well and Myles, Saxon (playing his first game in a while for the club) and Harvey, all had their moments.
again to Cocky and the
Brant boys for helping us out on the day.
A Grade: In tough tricky condi ons and thick fog I thought both teams put on a great show. It was a highly contested game with both sides winning their fair share the footy. It was a bit of an arm wrestle for majority of the game with Robe edging us out late. I thought that our pressure was the best it’s been for a fair while which allowed us to win the footy back. Our endeavour and grit to stay in the contest was pleasing to see. We missed a few easy shots on goal and we had a few unlucky bouncers that didn’t go our way, but I guess that’s footy. Disappointed to lose the game but overall was happy with our performance. We will keep ripping in the next couple of weeks to finish off the season strong.
TANTANOOLA TIGERS
Tonight's Mouse Cup is a certainty to be a blast with table ckets selling out weeks ago and only standing ckets le . Thank you to everyone who has organised the night. Junior Colts: Last week we played the Bay at home in what was a big game for our young side, the first half was superb from the young Tigers showing plenty of fight and giving it to the Port Mac team. Unfortunately the third quarter wasn't as good opening up the door for the opposi on to sneak a few goals it building on their lead heading into the last we again fought back hard but in end the gap was just a bit too big for the boys, great game all round.
Senior Colts: As we headed home to play a well-rounded Port Mac team the boys knew it was going to be a challenge. We started slow in the first half rarely winning it out of the middle and when we did their backline mopped everything up. A er a few posi onal changes and a bit of a rev up the second half was much be er with the boys adding pressure and showing they wanted to be there which was good to see but at the end of the day Port Mac came out and showed us their class, who will be a strong team come finals me. Goal kicker was Braydn Hateley and best players where Braydn Hateley, Eli Bowman, Sam Simmons, Jayden Hunter, Zak Linnell and Brayden Rowe.
Reserves: Last week we hosted the
Bay at Tant in the B grade with another perfect day for footy Struggling for numbers we were lucky to have big Floppy Varcoe out of re rement and he slo ed 7 goals and had a BOG performance, which le us all wondering why he re red at all. Also thanks to Spog who filled in and played a solid game at half back. We had three senior colts play a second game, Kaden Bell played a ripper on the forward flank and Jackson Grant and Chance Mitchell swapping off the bench into a back pocket. The boys had a slow start le ng Pt Mac kick 5 goals in the first quarter by the boys staged a comeback and we nearly got there but just fell short by a couple of goals. Best players were Jimmy “Floppy” Varcoe, Nick “belly bu on lint” Cory, Kaden “the weed” Bell, Marky “old fossil” Bell and Ma y “the ghost” Nelson.
A Grade: Last week we played Port Mac at home. The weather turned it on and we looked forward to a challenge and redeeming ourselves from a very below average performance the previous week. The first half we controlled most of the play with very good ball movement and hi ng our targets unfortunately didn't quite hit the scoreboard to get a good lead and allowed Port Mac to stay in the contest at half me. The 3rd quarter all of Port Mac’s best players stood up and put together 15 dominant minutes leaving us flat footed and a bit off the mark. But the last quarter we bounced back winning the quarter and being very dominant all around the ground. Even though we went down the performance was much different to the previous and the boys walked off the ground with a great game of footy and having plenty of opportuni es to get a win against a top 3 team. Best players Troy Ha , Jordy Ha , Ethan Bowman, Brayden Hateley and James MacDonald.
