The time has come!...The most wonderful and chilling time of the year; Halloween! Now, if you find ourself with nothing to on a cold dark night—you’ll definitely want to resort to one of my top 5 favorite Halloween movies.
1 - HALLOWEEN
H
alloween is one of my picks for many reasons. Not only do we get to see young Jamie Lee Curtis in her heyday but Michael Myers is one of the all-time best fictional serial killers of all times. The flick begins on Halloween night if 1963, At six years old, Michael stabs his 15 year old sister to death. The child is then institutionalized. 15 years later, on the same night, Michael breaks out and returns home to unleash his pure evil upon his hometown.
2 - SCREAM
N
ext up on my slasher list is Scream. All of you know the all-too familiar ghost face! This flick is directed by one of my favorite directors: Wes Craven. The storyline follows Sidney, a high school student who seemingly is the object of Ghostface’s attacks! Scream is unique because it openly made fun of the horror movie cliches and was one the the first films to do so.
3 - BEETLEJUICE
B
eetlejuice is my third pick for this list. Directed by Tim Burton, you can expect nothing but the extraordinary. For those of you who have not watched this classic film, the story circles around Adam and Barbara. Adam and Barbara are a seemingly normal couple, except for the fact that they are d ead . In desperate times, we call for desperate measures. The couple calls upon Beetlejuice to help scare out the new family who inhabits their home.
4 - TRICK ‘R TREAT
A
newbie but goodie for my top 5 favorite Halloween movies is Trick ‘r Treat. This flick takes every Halloween myth and tale that you can remember and brings it to life interwoven between five different stories on the night of Halloween. Full of the demonic and supernatural, this movie has it all!
5 - FRIGHT NIGHT
L
ast for my October picks is Fright Night. What’s Halloween without vampires?! A boy next door, thinks his neighbor’s strange behavior means that he is a vampire. No one believes the boy, not even the TV host of the show Fright Night. He willingly helps the boy for the money, but later realizes there are bigger issues at hand.

I
was Born In Belaurus when it was still part of the Soviet Union. Like many new republics since its dissolution we grew up surrounded by relics of Oppressive communism and a structure that asked its people to conform to an ideology that expected obedience and submission surrounded by grey colours and little in the way of Variety. I struggled for most of my Teenage youth trying to find unique, bright designs that exemplified freedom of expression. Being passionate about fashion I could never be satisfied with such a limited choice and I was always customizing my outfits and bringing my own ideas to life. The idea of creating a brand appeared when I moved to Australia. Inspired by the endless Australian summer and relaxing lifestyle. I wanted to add a touch of European elegance and chic to sporty Australian designs. By receiving great feedback and compliments from my friends and even critics I finally decided to find a niche for myself and bring my unique style to the market
Influenced by European luxury lifestyle. I created the brand LA Koi swimwear made for sophisticated and confident woman, who care about quality and style. LaKoi Swimwear is defined by exquisite detail and the collection is tailored in Australia using fine quality Italian fabrics. The idea for the brand name came from Chinese culture. A legend of the Dragon Gate in which a Koi fish swam upstream, through waterfalls and other obstacles to reach the top of the mountain. The legend says that when the koi finally reached the top, it became a dragon, one of the most auspicious creatures in Chinese culture. The legend is very appealing to my own life experience. being challenged and overcoming obstacles trying to make my way out of a still restrictive country and to leave my friends and family behind to start a better life where I could express my creativity. Like The Koi Fish, a daunting journey but rewarding none the less.

LIFE IS STRANGE

A
chill in the air, the turning of leaves, and the return of the Pumpkin Spice latte offer no doubt that fall is upon us. For many adolescents, the arrival of fall brings a fresh start, an opportunity to reinvent themselves and rectify the mistakes of the past year. Regardless of popularity, sports, and test scores, it’s safe to say that anyone would take the opportunity to change some aspect of their high school experience. What if your teenage self were given the ability to rewind time? Square Enix gave players that very opportunity in last year’s point-and-click mystery thriller, which seems to be making a revival this season. ife is Strange places players in the shoes of Blackwell L Academy senior Max Caulfield. Awkward, yet trendy and talented, Max spontaneously discovers she has the ability to rewind time while daydreaming in her photography class. She uses her newfound powers to stop a classmate from getting shot, only to discover that the victim was a long-lost friend named Chloe. With Chloe by her side, Max uses her powers to uncover the truth behind the disappearance of popular girl Rachel Amber, and to thwart the twisted, underground society known as the Vortex Club. Imagine the characters of Juno in the setting of T win Peaks, and Ellen Page finds the remote from Click. Throughout the game, players are presented with a series of choices and subsequent consequences that ultimately determine the outcome of the plot. But is L ife is Strange worth a trip down memory lane to the high school days? Beautiful design work, complex characters, and an ingenious game mechanic could have made Life is Strange an instant classic, but poor dialogue and voice acting hold the game back. Despite neither the game’s writer, Jean-Luc Cano, nor the game’s developing team having come from Life is Strange the Pacific Northwest, the setting of perfectly captures the aesthetic of coastal Oregon. Painted with autumn colors and a warm, small town charm, Arcadia Bay inspires nostalgia for childhood vacations to Seaside or Cannon Beach. The character
design is of the typical Square Enix template, taking definitive gender features and bringing them to the foreground. Having the majority of the plot take place at a prestigious art school, the students are designed with notable detail in their style of dress. Each character, whether student or adult, wears distinct clothing that matches their personality. Headlining the game is a sweet, jean-clad, shoulder bag toting, short-haired brunette with a thing for cute deer shirts. Acting as the game’s protagonist, emotional center, and the audience’s vehicle for choice, Max offers more than girl-next-door charm. Her compassion for other characters, especially in her relationship with Chloe, drive some of the game’s most gripping moments. Max comes to terms with some of life’s harshest realities, and her relatable nature carries her gracefully through her character arc. Considering that Square Enix was the only publisher not insistent that the main character of L ife is Strange be male, Max is one of the most admirable female characters to be developed in a game. Mr. Jefferson, Blackwell Academy’s charismatic photography teacher and personal mentor to Max, has an intriguing depth with a few secrets of his own. All of the characters are put through dark situations as the mystery unfolds, drawing in the audience with their compassion and growth. On its own, Life is Strange could have been produced into a quirky, teenage sci-fi drama with a badass female cast. Choosing to write the story as a point-and-click game with an interactive rewind mechanic is what helped L ife is Strange grow over time as a sleeper hit. ix based the structure of Developers at Square En Life is Strange on the rewind mechanic, which had already been tested inthe publisher’s previous release, Remember Me. Giving players control of the game’s plot by way of choice and manipulation of time makes up for a lack of skill-based gameplay. Scattered throughout the game are puzzles to challenge the player’s memory and timing, which can become tedious - and in my

It takes an episode or two to get into the game’s rhythm. Skilled gameplay comes from paying close attention to the game’s cues, remembering key details about characters and events, and knowing exactly when to jump back. Because rewinding time and makingchoices are the only real gameplay in L ife is Strange, the game relies on the plot and characters to engage the audience’s empathy and hold their attention until the end. Unfortunately, what the game lacks in dialogue and voice acting hinders the ingenious concept from making a realistic connection. There is a particular balance to be struck when writing the dialogue of a teenager. Dated, overused phrases and high school cliches will only make the character seem like an eye-roll inducing product of the times. Unfortunately, Life is Strange was a pretty bad offender. Dialogue such as “go fuck your selfie”, and “I just vaped some dank OG bud” sounds more like a middle aged aunt trying to sound “hip” than entertaining banter. Poor writing of dialogue and even worse voice acting threaten to spoil the plot’s emotional drama. It is notable that Life is Strange, despite taking place in Oregon, was not originally made in English. The voiceovers are dubbed, which is also typical for a Square Enix game. High school media will always range between edgy, timeless and thought provoking (a la Breakfast Club), to dated, cliche and insufferable (looking at you, H igh School Musical). Life is Strange falls around the middle of this range, at least making an attempt to portray its high school characters like real, troubled young people. Considering that Life is Strange is targeted to high school and young adult audiences, there was plenty of backlash online concerning the game’s poor dialogue. A unique, well written story and beautiful design have given Life is Strange a bit of a resurgence this fall. Max serves as a strong female lead to an overall compelling story, but the poor dialogue and worse delivery of lines has kept the game at the proverbial kids table. Of course, all review is subjective. Pick up the first episode for free on Steam, and take a nostalgic journey to Arcadia Bay.
