ANNE-LISE FINK, DDS, IOTA ’94 Supreme Editor
We lost a valuable member of our fraternity this past year, Dr. Tom Bonomo (Beta ’61).
Tom Bonomo represented the essence of Xi Psi Phi Fraternity by expressing his devotion and love for our fraternity with his enthusiasm and by supporting and mentoring students in the field of dentistry.

November 10, 1935 – January 2, 2025
My favorite memory of Tom was during my first Supreme meeting of the Xi Psi Phi Dental Fraternity that I attended in Memphis, Tennessee. He was infused with so much enthusiasm and enjoyed the opportunity of meeting so many new and up-incoming dentists. He offered support, guidance and mentorship to so many dental students, his impact was a legacy I will never forget. That evening all of us went to the infamous Beale street. Tom was full of energy and sat with us youngins at all the
various clubs enjoying the music and entertainment. He was an inspiration for all of us and will be sorely missed by all his brothers and sisters at Xi Psi Phi. Love you Tom and my heartfelt condolences to Lorrie and family.

Dr. Thomas Joseph Bonomo was not only a devoted XiPsiPhi Dental Fraternity member but also a loving husband, father, and dedicated dentist. His parents, Margaret and Salvatore, were immigrants from Italy who valued education. He attended Xavier High School in Manhattan and the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA, where he graduated in 1957. He graduated from the New York University College of Dentistry in 1961. He had a thriving practice in East Northport, NY, for 45 years. Tom mentored young dentists his entire career. Tom was an active member of the Xi Psi Phi international dental fraternity, and served as national president from 1998-2000. In addition, he was an editor of the Suffolk County Dental Society magazine and was also a former president of the Suffolk County Dental Society.
Tom and his wife of 65 years, Marion “Lorrie” Bonomo, raised a family of five children in Northport, NY. Over the decades, that family of five children grew to include 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Tom and Lorrie treasured family time, especially when the entire family gathered at the Jersey Shore for a week. Tom was a Brooklyn Dodgers fan, who adopted the New York Mets when the Dodgers left New York. He was a jazz aficionado and collected wines in his basement cellar. But more than that, he was a devoted husband, beloved dad, and grandfather, Nonno, and of course, a much loved member of Xi Psi Phi Fraternity.
Our condolences to Lorrie and the entire family.

Kinnari Shah (Iota chapter)
My name is Kinnari Shah, and I am a fourth-year dental student at UCSF. I was born and raised in Cupertino, CA, and graduated from Monta Vista High School in 2016. I earned my undergraduate degree in Molecular & Cellular Biology from UC Berkeley, where I laid the foundation for my passion for science, education, and community engagement.
At UC Berkeley, I actively pursued opportunities outside the classroom that deepened my academic interests and broadened my perspective— ranging from tutoring and mentorship to leadership and research. As a Graduate Student Instructor for Biochemistry and Human Physiology, I led weekly discussion sections for over 60 students, an experience that deepened my enthusiasm for teaching and mentorship. My interest in scientific research led me to a toxicology project examining the connection between talc exposure and ovarian cancer; I presented this work at the Society of Toxicology Conference and published an abstract in The Toxicologist. Later, I joined UCSF’s Gross Lab, where I further explored molecular biology by cloning, purifying, and crystallizing mRNA demethylases to better understand their structure and function. I graduated from UC Berkeley with High Distinction in General Scholarship and earned a place on the Dean’s Honors List every semester.

At UCSF School of Dentistry, I continued to build on my interests through a wide range of academic, research, and leadership experiences. I collaborated with Xi Psi Phi alumnus Dr. Christopher Lin and other mentors on a research project examining factors that influence loupe purchasing decisions and satisfaction among first- and second-year dental students. Our findings led to the enhancement of UCSF’s Annual Loupes Selection Workshop for incoming classes from 2022 to 2024. I presented this work at UCSF Research & Clinical Excellence Day, the ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition, and several other conferences. Beyond research, I held leadership roles in various organizations, including Perio Club, ADEA, California Public Health Association–North (CPHA-N), Children’s Night Clinic, and Community Dental Clinic (CDC), while serving as the Class of 2025 Secretary throughout all four years. As a 2024–2025 Albert Schweitzer Fellow, I partnered with the nonprofit Support for Families of Children with Disabilities to create a community-based project that empowers families and improves oral health outcomes for individuals with special needs.
Following graduation, I found myself increasingly drawn to dentistry—not only for its integration of science, education, and hands-on care, but also for the profound, lasting impact it can have on patients’ lives. My older brother, who has Autism, has been my greatest inspiration in this journey. As his primary support system growing up, I helped him navigate daily routines, communication challenges, and oral hygiene. Witnessing firsthand the obstacles he faced—particularly within dental care—opened my eyes to the disparities experienced by vulnerable populations. This deeply personal experience fueled my passion for prevention, education, and surgical care, ultimately guiding me toward periodontics, a specialty where I could build long-term relationships and meaningfully improve health outcomes. To further explore the field, I spent my gap year working full-time as a dental assistant for periodontist Dr. John Shen, an experience that not only affirmed my interest but also strengthened my commitment to pursuing periodontics as a career.
In addition to my academic and clinical involvement, I was an active member of the Xi Psi Phi fraternity. As Rush Chair during the 2022–2023 academic year, I organized events such as Sloshball, Board Game Night, and the annual Costume Party—managing everything from promotions to event logistics to strengthen community engagement. I also had the privilege of joining Xi Psi Phi alumni Dr. Yabu and Dr. Arita on a mission trip to San Quintin, Mexico, through the Mother Lode Chapter. There, I provided essential dental care—including exams, cleanings, fillings, extractions, and oral hygiene education—to over 50 patients in underserved communities.
Outside of dentistry, I find balance through creative and physical pursuits like bouldering, baking, singing with the UCSF a cappella team, and discovering new coffee shops around the city.
This June 2024, I will graduate from UCSF School of Dentistry and begin a periodontics residency at the University of Connecticut. I look forward to advancing my clinical and surgical skills while continuing to prioritize patient-centered, comprehensive care. As an aspiring periodontist, I am committed to making a meaningful impact on my patients’ health, well-being, and quality of life through tailored, compassionate treatment.

Abdulrahman Ahmed (Beta chapter)
Growing up in Old Bridge, New Jersey, as the eldest of six siblings, I learned early what it meant to take responsibility. While facing academic challenges in high school, I made a commitment to work harder and build a future I could be proud of. That decision set me on a path of growth, discipline, and perseverance, ultimately leading me to where I am today.
Community service has always been central to my life. In high school, I actively contributed to my local mosque, participating in soup kitchens, clothing drives, and fundraisers for those in need. These experiences instilled in me a deep sense of service and advocacy, which has guided my journey in healthcare.

research, I identified gaps in current studies and proposed directions for future research. Service continues to be integral to who I am. As a volunteer with Islam by Touch, I helped raise awareness and funds for resources for the blind Muslim community, including supporting the creation of the first-ever English braille translation of the Quran. I also participated in MuckFest 5K, training a patient with Multiple Sclerosis to run alongside me and raising funds for MS research. These experiences have deepened my belief in the power of service to make a tangible difference.
At Rutgers University, I majored in Exercise Science, discovering a passion for health and rehabilitation. I also became involved in the Muslim Student Association and served on the executive board of the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF) for two years. In this role, I helped lead initiatives providing free medical care for children in need across the Middle East, strengthening my commitment to patient advocacy. I also represented PCRF on the Muslim Public Relations Council (MPRC), working to ensure the voices of over 6,000 Muslim students at Rutgers were heard.
Now, as a dental student at NYU College of Dentistry, I continue to embrace leadership and service. As Vice President of NYU’s ASDA Chapter, I engage students in organized dentistry. In my previous role as Conference Chair, I coordinated national and regional trips, managing logistics to ensure everything ran smoothly. I’ve also served as Social Chair for District 2 ASDA, organizing events that build community among students from all NY dental schools. I’m proud to be a student scholar of the NYU Dentistry Student Leadership Institute (DDSLI) and to have served as the Group Practice Liaison for the Fauchard Society.
My passion for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery has been shaped by both my academic and research experiences. I’m honored to have received Honors in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology Diagnostics, a distinction earned by only eight students in my class (of 375). I also authored a case report on Calcifying Epithelial Odontogenic Tumor (CEOT), where I explored diagnostic and treatment approaches and its genetic implications. Through this
In addition to my academic and volunteer work, I enjoy hobbies such as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, weightlifting, hiking, playing sports like soccer and basketball, reading, and exploring different coffee shops. These activities help me unwind and maintain a healthy balance alongside my responsibilities.
As I prepare for the CBSE and work toward securing a residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, I look forward to contributing to the field through both clinical practice and research, always striving to improve patients’ lives.
Receiving the Reynold L. and Vivian Foutz Scholarship Award is a tremendous honor, and I’m deeply grateful for this recognition. It serves as a reminder of the journey I’ve been on; the challenges, growth, and promises I’ve made to myself. I look forward to continuing my education and giving back to the community. Thank you once again, for the generosity of this scholarship!

Since Cayman resurrected Beta Chapter in Spring 2023, the fraternity has grown exponentially, becoming a dominant presence within the NYU College of Dentistry. We kicked off the year with exciting social events and welcomed a vibrant new class of pledges. With this year’s induction ceremony, our total membership has surpassed 100 students and faculty members — all within less than two years. From a postpandemic standstill, Beta Chapter has risen to become one of the most influential organizations at the college.
President Cayman and VicePresident Peter were honored with an invitation to this year’s Supreme Chapter meeting in Toronto. Their visit included a tour of the city, outstanding food, and a warm welcome from the Omicron Chapter at their house. The Supreme Chapter recognized Cayman’s exceptional leadership with the President of the Year Award for his instrumental role in reviving Beta Chapter and growing it into one of the largest chapters nationwide. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Supreme Chapter for this honor and their generous hospitality. Special thanks as well to the

Omicron Chapter for embracing us with open arms.
This year also saw many other notable achievements. Abdulrahman Ahmed received the prestigious Reynold & Vivian Foutz Scholarship and will serve as our new Social Chair for the coming academic year. In addition, Beta Chapter hosted our own awards ceremony to recognize students and faculty for their dedication and contributions to the fraternity. After two impactful years as President, Cayman has graduated from NYU, leaving Beta Chapter in

the capable hands of a new leadership team. At the helm is our newly elected President Olivia Croce, now entering her third year of dental school. With a proven track record of leadership and a deep passion for our fraternity, Olivia is poised to build on Beta Chapter’s momentum and take us to even greater heights. Her vision, dedication, and energy will ensure that our chapter continues to thrive—2025 is just the beginning! ◾

The ZIP Omicron Chapter at the University of Toronto Faculty of Dentistry has had a vibrant and successful start to the 2025–2026 academic year, marked by strong membership growth, high engagement, and memorable chapter events. Our chapter proudly welcomed over 50 new members this year, reflecting both the continued interest in ZIP and a strong turnout for initiation. The size and enthusiasm of this incoming class highlight a chapter that is continuing to thrive.
This year’s social calendar featured several well-attended gatherings that strengthened both brotherhood and alumni connections. Our Halloween social was a standout success, bringing members together in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. In addition, we hosted a Q&A event with alumni (including Dr. Cyril Tahtadjian our Province Chair) offering valuable insight into professional life after dental school and built intergenerational connections within ZIP.
Our flagship event of the term was the ZIP Formal, held just last week, which welcomed approximately 270 attendees. The event was an outstanding evening and a testament to the dedication and coordination of our executive team, as well as the strong sense of camaraderie within the chapter.
Academically, the chapter remains focused on supporting members throughout the rigors of dental school through peer mentorship, shared resources, and ongoing encouragement.
Looking ahead, ZIP Omicron is excited for the remainder of the year,

Beta Mu Editor - Class of 2026
The Fall semester was a busy one for the ZIPs at SIU School of Dental Medicine. We started off with preparing for RUSH to bring in new members! Our theme this year was “Greetings from Planet ZIPs.” It was outer space themed, and definitely was out of this world! People were dressed as aliens and astronauts! Our

Meeting at the Fraternity House
sponsor of our frat even gave us SUPER permanent tattoos (not really they came off that night!). We played lawn games and ate hot dogs and hamburgers. Overall the night was filled with laughter, great music, and crazy dancing. In the end, we got 14 new members. Our

frat was so happy to grow our family even more!
To raise money for our frat, we hosted a BINGO night at a local pub called Third Chute. We did raffles and gave out gift cards for small businesses located in Alton. So many members and non-members showed up and supported our frat. We have been doing these BINGO nights for a few years, and they bring in the money! Currently, that bar is no longer open, so we are in search of a new venue because BINGO is definitely a fan favorite at our school.
Then, we had a social hour at a local bar called Flock to connect with our new members as well as grow our established relationships with our long-time brothers and sisters! It was a great evening after school and definitely created some memories for us all. We had good drinks and even better company.
The ZIPs love giving back to the community, so our philanthropy chairs organized a canned food drive at a local bar. It was truly a success, and we got so many cans to give back to the community. This event is something we will definitely continue on with in future years.
A lot of members in our fraternity like to golf in their free time. So we hosted our annual ZIPs Open at Cloverleaf Golf Course. We had a lot of groups show up for this event and enjoy the open air. Golf balls were flying and people were putting. Overall, it was a very fun event that cultivated more memories with our ZIPs members.
In a few weeks, the ZIPs will be hosting elections to induct new officers! We are very excited to hand off the torches to the members that will take our spots. Undoubtedly, our successors will do great things for our frat. Our members take pride in the bonds we make and the memories we share. This coming year for our frat will be great and we are so excited to see the future of ZIPs! ◾

Estate Planning
Giving Back to Xi Psi Phi Foundation
our will is the easiest, most effective way to ensure that your family, friends and the Xi Psi Phi Foundation are supported as you intend. Sample bequest language is “I give, devise and bequeath (written amount, percentage of estate or description of property) to the Xi Psi Phi Foundation, a not-for-profit corporation with principal offices located at 160 S. Bellwood Drive, Suite Z, East Alton, Illinois, 62024, to be used for the purposes designated by the Directors of the Foundation.”
Supporting the Xi Psi Phi Foundation with a portion of your estate does not always require a will. Here are some other options for you to consider:
Life Insurance: Name the Xi Psi Phi Foundation as owner and beneficiary of a policy you no longer need, or a policy written for the purpose of a charitable gift. The gift will take place outside of probate, the often time-consuming and costly process of determining the validity of a will and administering the estate.
Retirement Plan: Give the Xi Psi Phi Foundation a portion or all of your IRA, 401(k), Keough or other retirement plan fund from your estate. These types of assts, when used a charitable gifts, avoid income and estate taxes; all that is required is signing the right form, and no probate is involved.
Payable-upon-Death Account: Leave checking accounts, savings accounts, saving bonds and other deposit certificates to the Xi Psi Phi Foundation. The gift can be easily accomplished by simply filling out the appropriate form; the asset will be transferred at your death.
Your attorney, tax professional or financial advisor can provide details about other ways to support the Xi Psi Phi Foundation outside of your will. Your thoughtful planning leaves a legacy to inspire the future members of Xi Psi Phi. Please contact Keith Dickey, Secretary-Treasurer, Xi Psi Phi Foundation, XIPHIPHI@hotmail.com, if you have already made plans to include Xi Psi Phi Foundation in your estate planning.
