Founded in 1957 by the Xaverian Brothers, Xaverian has become one of the nation’s leading Catholic educational institutions and the largest Xaverian Brothers Sponsored School in the United States. Located on a scenic waterfront campus in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, with views of lower Manhattan, Xaverian serves more than 1,700 students in grades 6 through 12.

Having increased enrollment nearly 70% over the past 10 years, Xaverian has emerged as one of the strongest Catholic school enrollment success stories nationwide. As part of its strategic vision for the future, Xaverian is currently undertaking an ambitious $26M campus expansion initiative that reflects both the vitality of the institution and the generosity of its community of alumni, families, and benefactors. The expansion will create new classrooms, modern STEM and innovation spaces, collaborative student commons areas, expanded dining and gathering spaces, and enhanced facilities for faculty and student support. THE POSITION
Xaverian seeks a visionary Catholic leader to build on the strong legacy of our retiring President, whose 17 years of steady and transformative leadership have further shaped the institution’s success. The successful candidate will serve as Chief Executive Officer, advancing the school’s mission of academic excellence and forming servant leaders grounded in the faith, tradition, and charism of the Xaverian Brothers. This leader will oversee the institution’s strategic direction, financial sustainability, and mission-centered culture while fostering a diverse and innovative learning environment.
Major priorities and responsibilities for the next President include, but are not limited to:
Mission Leadership: Serve as the primary steward and visible spiritual leader of the school’s Catholic and Xaverian identity by understanding, embodying, and actively animating the mission, charism, and values of the Xaverian Brothers. Preserve and enhance the unique culture of Xaverian.
Governance: Demonstrate a clear understanding of and respect for the President-Principal model including empowerment of the Principal to lead the academic program and oversee the day-to-day educational life of the school. Cultivate a strong, collaborative partnership with the Board of Trustees grounded in a deep appreciation for the Board’s fiduciary, strategic, and mission-driven responsibilities, ensuring transparent communication, shared leadership, and effective institutional governance.
Strategic Planning: Collaborate closely with the Board of Trustees to develop, communicate, and implement a mission-driven strategic vision that advances the long-term sustainability and growth of the school. Lead institutional planning efforts that build upon the school’s recent momentum and success while aligning all strategic
priorities with the Catholic and Xaverian mission, enrollment growth, financial strength, academic innovation, facilities development, and the evolving needs of students and families.
Administration & Finance: Provide visionary and effective executive leadership for key school operations, including finance, human resources, facilities, risk management, technology, and institutional policies. Foster a culture of accountability, professionalism, collaboration, and stewardship by ensuring the responsible management of the school’s resources, supporting and developing faculty and staff, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, demonstrating knowledge of best practices of school administration and school safety protocols and maintaining a safe, welcoming, and mission-aligned environment for students and families.
Development & Marketing: In collaboration with advancement, admissions, and communications leadership, serve as the school’s chief ambassador by advancing strategic fundraising, donor cultivation, enrollment growth, and community engagement efforts that strengthen the school’s mission, visibility, and long-term sustainability. Manage external community affairs (e.g., the Diocese, state/city government agencies).
Academic Excellence: Working closely with the Principal, ensure high-quality curriculum, particularly in the evolving environment of artificial intelligence, supporting both middle and high school programs.
ATTRIBUTES OF THE NEXT PRESIDENT
The new President will be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing who is faithful to the traditions and teachings of the Church and committed to the mission of a Xaverian Brothers Sponsored School. The President will demonstrate integrity beyond reproach and maintain a visible, engaged presence within the school community, exhibiting genuine care for all aspects of school life. The successful candidate will be welcoming, trustworthy, compassionate, and empathetic while strongly supporting the school’s inclusive mission. The President will possess dynamic and faith-filled leadership suited to a diverse community, a deep commitment to Catholic education and spiritual formation, and exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
In addition, it is preferred that candidates possess the following:
Proven experience as a school administrator, executive, or equivalent non-profit leadership (3-5+ years preferred).
Business and financial acumen, a sense of stewardship, and skills that include risk management, financial management, and complex facility management.
Experience in major donor cultivation and solicitation.
Collaborative experience working with a governing board.
Advanced degree in education or administration is highly desirable.

Xaverian is governed by a dedicated Board of Trustees under the sponsorship of the Xaverian Brothers. In addition to a rigorous curriculum featuring 33 college-credit-bearing courses and six Pre-Professional Pathways, Xaverian offers exceptional opportunities beyond the classroom, including the largest athletic program in New York City and a world-renowned Music Program featuring more than 28 performing ensembles. The Ryken Program is a New York State-approved special education program for secondary students with learning disabilities who have the intellectual ability to succeed in a rigorous college-preparatory curriculum but whose academic performance is affected by documented disabilities, such as reading, writing, math, language, or attention disorders. Its mission is to challenge and support students so they can achieve at their full academic potential, become lifelong learners, and successfully pursue college.
The Genesis Program is dedicated to providing an engaging and challenging Catholic middle school program for academically talented girls and boys. The program is designed to develop and nurture high-level critical thinking skills and is committed to the development of the middle school student through academic excellence, extracurricular involvement, and Christian service to neighbor and community.
As a Xaverian Brothers Sponsored School, the Campus Ministry Program is centered in Christ and strives to create the time and space necessary for reflection, prayer, sharing of faith, and sacramental celebration. Xaverian provides different retreat experiences for the spiritual needs of their students. There are retreat experiences given to every student at least once a year, with optional retreats, that include Kairos and the Global Immersion Program, for students who wish to further explore their faith.
The College Counseling Program supports students from freshman year through the college admissions process, helping them meet deadlines, explore colleges, register for tests, and complete applications. Working closely with each student, they prepare them for success in high school and lay the foundation for their higher education goals.
Parents are actively involved throughout the four-year process through regular meetings and updates on financial aid, graduation requirements, and college planning.

LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITY SUMMARY
The successful candidate will be a strategic and mission-driven leader deeply committed to Catholic education and the values of a Xaverian Brothers Sponsored School. The President will be an effective and diplomatic communicator, capable of building strong relationships across a diverse range of stakeholders and constituencies. The successful candidate will appreciate and honor the rich history, culture, and charism of the Xaverian community and will confidently articulate and promote that story within the highly competitive educational and philanthropic environment of Brooklyn, New York City, and the broader metropolitan area. In all actions and decisions, the President will faithfully advance the mission and vision of the institution. This is a full-time, year-round position with a highly competitive salary and benefits package.
