TRIUMPH HIGH STUDENTS LEND A HAND AT COMEA SHELTER

Last week, a group of student council members from Triumph High School rolled up their sleeves and stepped into service at the local COMEA Shelter. The visit began with a guided tour of the shelter, where students learned about the vital role COMEA plays in providing emergency housing and support services to individuals experiencing homelessness in Cheyenne. Staff members explained how the facility operates day-to-day, offering insight into the challenges and triumphs of running such a critical resource.

After the tour, the students got to work— rearranging furniture, cleaning common areas, and helping organize supplies. Their energy and enthusiasm were evident as they tackled each task with purpose and teamwork.

“It was eye-opening,” junior Kyler Wilkins shared. “We didn’t realize how much goes into keeping the shelter running smoothly. It felt good to be part of something that helps people.”

The experience left a lasting impression on the group, who plan on continuing to support the shelter throughout the school year. Plans are already in motion for future volunteer days and potential donation drives.

Triumph High’s student council is proving that leadership isn’t just about meetings and planning—it’s about showing up, pitching in, and making a difference where it counts.

The Cheyenne Municipal Building Closure

The Cheyenne Municipal Building is closed until further notice. All City services remain available to the public and the main City phone line remains open at 307-637-2000. City staff and departments are available by phone and email at their regular numbers. The Clerk’s Office and Human Resources are at the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens, 710 South Lions Park Drive. The Mayor’s Office, City Attorney, the Building Safety Division, Planning and Development Department, MPO, Downtown Development Authority and City Engineer are located at 2020 Carey Avenue. Offices that offer in-person services and their locations are listed at the top of the City’s website at www.cheyennecity. org. City Council will offer in-person attendance at committee meetings, work sessions and full meetings of the Governing Body. All City Council meetings remain at their regular times but will be held in the Laramie County School District #1 Board Room at Storey Gym. Meetings streamed to the City’s Facebook and YouTube may be interrupted.

Dia de los Muertos Celebrations

Cheyenne Botanical Gardens, Laramie County Library and Wyoming State Museum plus many other organizations are observing Dia de los Muertos with hundreds of flowers and a wide variety of programs. Celebrations run October 31-November 1 during their open hours of 10:00am-5:00pm, Friday and Saturday. Food, treats, flowers and take home kids’ activities will be available, most are free of charge. The Laramie County Library, 2100 Pioneer Avenue, will be having events on November 1 starting with Ofrenda de Danza at 9:30am10:00am, a musical performance by Mariachi Las Dahlias, 10:30am-12:00pm, plus themed crafts and exhibits and a StoryWalk. The Wyoming State Museum has Family Day, Saturday, November 1, 10:00am-2:00pm. The Cheyenne Street Railway Trolley will run between event locations from 10:00am-3:00pm. Surveillance video shows two unknown subjects on the utility provider’s property, gathering reels of copper wire and leaving out of camera view. It appears they broke into a gated yard and took over $1,500 worth of items.
