Recently, Cheyenne South High School, among other schools, raised money for Make A Wish. But what is Make A Wish? It is a program that grants wishes to children (2.5-18 years old) who have been diagnosed with critical illnesses. These illnesses are commonly cancer, mood/kidney conditions, neurological, and genetic conditions. Unfortunately, roughly 27,000 children are diagnosed with a qualifying condition each year, that’s only in the U.S.
Why is this important? Make A Wish provides children with critical illnesses with a feeling of hope, joy, and normalcy. Not only does it support the child, it supports the whole family by helping them find emotional relief, create long-lasting memories, and bringing joy to parents and siblings who are also affected by the stress of the illnesses. What most people don’t know: the majority of children supported by Make A Wish go on to live a long life. Kaleb, a young boy from Cheyenne, was granted his wish to go to Disney World. Kaleb loved everything an 11-year-old boy does, including football. He especially loves the Wyoming Cowboys Football team. At his wish reveal, UW football players, and their coach, surrounded Kaleb and celebrated with
him. After Kaleb’s wish was granted, he continues to live a stable life. Kaleb’s wish was granted in the state of Wyoming, and many followed after him. This school year, South High has completed multiple activities in support of Make A Wish. The crowd favorite was the Soak-A-Senior event where students got to see their favorite senior get a cup, gallon, or 5-gallon bucket of water poured on them. Other events like Tyson’s Got Talent, partnerships for delicious dinners at Culver’s or shiny, clean cars at Breeze-Thru Car Wash, and other activities that raised money to help change children’s lives. South High School has been an active fundraiser for about 14 years, as of early 2026.

Crime Stoppers Silent Witness
Assistance Identifying Theft Suspect
Cheyenne Police Detectives are seeking information about a felony theft that occurred at VFW Post 1881 located at 2816 East 7th Street. A white cargo trailer containing military memorabilia was stolen from the property. The trailer held medals, including Purple Hearts and a Medal of Honor, plaques, flags, uniforms and other personal items belonging to veterans.
Surveillance footage shows a gold passenger vehicle arrived at the location, backed up to the trailer and towed it away. If you have any information about this theft or recognize the vehicle, please contact Detective Hedum at 307-633-6643.

LCCC Spring Concerts
A pair of spring concerts at Laramie County Community College will showcase award-winning concert works, recognizable film music and jazz standards. The LCCC Chamber Orchestra and Wind Ensemble will perform their “And the Winner Is...” concert at 3:00pm on Sunday, May 3. The Chamber Orchestra will perform recognizable works and award-winning scores while the Wind Ensemble will perform selections from composers who won major honors and also wrote for band. The “Spring Jazz Showcase” is set for 7:00pm Monday, May 6 and will feature a mix of big band energy, jazz standards and featured performers. Both concerts will be in the Surbrugg/Prentice Auditorium, located at 1400 East College Drive and are free and open to the public.
Laramie County DUI Victim Impact Panel
Laramie County DUI Victim Impact Panel will be held May 18. All panels are held at LCCC in the Center for Conferences, Room 130, 1400 East College Drive, start time is 6:30pm sharp (doors will lock at 6:30pm). Please arrive at 6:00pm-6:15pm for check in. Free Stop the Bleed Classes
Sunday Rewind
Cheyenne Regional Medical Center is offering two free Stop the Bleed classes to help community members gain lifesaving skills and make Laramie County safer. Participants will learn why hemorrhage control is critical and will be trained in three techniques to help prevent life-threatening blood loss. May 20, 6:00pm at Pine Bluffs Town Hall, 215 Main Street, will be the first class. The second class will be May 21, 5:30pm-6:30pm at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center, 214 East 23rd Street, in meeting rooms C and D. The Office of Youth Alternatives Foster Grandparent Program is looking for tutor/mentors that are 55 years and older in Laramie, Platte and Goshen counties to work with children who need extra support in a supervised classroom setting for 2026 summer school. Foster Grandparents make a difference in the lives of children in the community and earn an average of $300 per month in a non-taxable stipend. Some qualifications apply. Seasonal Closure
The City of Cheyenne closed the southern portion of Kiwanis Community Park, located off East Pershing Boulevard on April 1 for seasonal wildlife protection. The southern section will reopen to the public on July 15. The closed area contains a large pond which provides valuable habitat for many species of wildlife and is especially important to many species of waterfowl. Spring through early summer is a critical time of year for these species as they are nesting and raising their young. The northern portion of the site will remain open to the public from sunrise to sunset and is accessible from the park’s main parking lot. Pets must be kept on leash and pet waste picked up and disposed of. Visitors are also asked to pack out all trash and to make sure they and their pets do not harass the wildlife or nearby livestock.
