Laramie County School District 1 announced the winners of this year’s Educational Support Person of the Year (ESPY) awards. Bridget Whiteman, a paraeducator at Dildine Elementary, received the Student Support award and Lucas Finch, the assistive technology facilitator for the Special Services Department, received the District Support award.

The winners, along with 43 other LCSD1 staff members, were nominated by their fellow staff, students, or other community members for displaying a level of professionalism and dedication worthy of this award. The ESPY award has two divisions: the Student Support award is given to a staff member who works with students as their primary duty, while the District Support award is

SCRABBLE ™ has plenty of words that originate in Scotland. Scotland is famous for its HEATHS , or SHRUBLAND and BRUSHLAND habitat. HEATHLAND features low growing woody vegetation, and is similar to MOORLAND , but in a warmer and drier climate. The FAUNA of the regions is diverse.

Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation Banquet

Cheyenne Audubon invites the public for a free talk by Vicki Herren, “Armchair birding in Southern Peru.” The talk will be Tuesday, April 21, 6:00pm in the Trout Room at the Wyoming Game and Fish Department headquarters, 5400 Bishop Boulevard. Bird the Amazon lowlands at Manu National Park and the Andes mountains to Abra Malaga Pass at 14,100 feet without even leaving your chair. Seasonal Closure

The City of Cheyenne closed the southern portion of Kiwanis Community Park, located off East Pershing Boulevard on April 1 for seasonal wildlife protection. The southern section will reopen to the public on July 15. The closed area contains a large pond which provides valuable habitat for many species of wildlife and is especially important to many species of waterfowl. Spring through early summer is a critical time of year for these species as they are nesting and raising their young. The northern portion of the site will remain open to the public from sunrise to sunset and is accessible from the park’s main parking lot. Pets must be kept on leash and pet waste picked up and disposed of. Visitors are also asked to pack out all trash and to make sure they and their pets do not harass the wildlife or nearby livestock.

Mark Russ of Hartville will present “Immigration to the United States and to Sunrise” at 6:00pm on April 23 at the Hartville Town Hall, 136 Main Street in Hartville. The program is sponsored by Sunrise Historic and Prehistoric Preservation Society (SHAPPS) and is free to the public.
