The ICDC is an international scale competition for DECA members who qualiďŹ ed through their state competition. DECA is a business and marketing club who prepare students for various career ďŹ elds, including Sports and Entertainment Marketing, Public Relations, Business Law and Ethics, and Restaurant Management. The students either presented projects and startup ideas to judges or solved a case study and took an exam over their topic. However, they did get to enjoy the city by going to a baseball game, Disneyland and Universal Studios. In DECA, the top twenty placers in each event move onto the ďŹ nals. After the ďŹ nals, at the awards ceremony, the top ten are recognized with the top three speciďŹ cally mentioned. More than 250 students from across the country competed in each event. Luke Macy, individually, and Camden Schmidt and Gabby Dodgson, as a team, made it to the ďŹ nals and a top ten ďŹ nish in their respective events.

Honors Straight From Congress

Recognizing outstanding Wyoming students has never been this easy. Senators John Barraso and Mike Enzi recently had the honor of praising and recognizing 147 Wyoming high school and college students at the annual Wyoming Congressional Awards luncheon held at Little America on April 23. According to congressionalaward.org, â€œThe Congressional Award is the United States Congressâ€™ award for young Americans. The program is open to all youth ages 14 to 23 and is non-partisan, voluntary, and non-competitive.â€? Senator Barrasso praised and encouraged the students for their accomplishments. Senator Enzi told them that they are the future and advised them to use Barrassoâ€™s spirit to bring their education and ideas back to Wyoming in the future. According to the website, â€œParticipants earn Bronze, Silver, and Gold Congressional Award CertiďŹ cates and Bronze, Silver, and Gold Congressional Award Medals. Each level involves setting goals in four program areas: Voluntary Public Service, Personal Development, Physical Fitness, and Expedition/Exploration. Earning The Congressional Award is a fun and interesting way to get more

involved in something you already enjoy or something youâ€™d like to try for the ďŹ rst time.â€? The gold award is given to students that have completed 400 volunteer hours, 200 personal development hours, 200 physical ďŹ tness hours, and a self-planned expedition lasting four nights and ďŹ ve days, all within a minimum of 24 months. With this award comes a free trip to Washington D.C. where the recipients receive their award from Congress and have the opportunity to shake hands with the president. The most prestigious level comes with a $2,000 scholarship and is the highest award given to students by Congress. Silver and bronze medals are given to participants that have reached a fewer amount of hours and a shorter expedition completed in a shorter amount of time. This year, California will be the only state to have more gold recipients sent to Washington than Wyoming. Enzi excitedly explained that this is remarkable considering Wyoming is considerably smaller than California. The East High recipients took up about a third of the total recipients at the Wyoming ceremony this year, showing just how easy it is to give back through volunteering and to better yourself through all of the other areas.
