Welcome Back to School! School began the second week of August for all children and families. It was a great week! Some children, of course took a little time to get adjusted but for the most part it was a happy start for children and families. • Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) The July 2024 Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) there was no claim submitted to the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) for reimbursement. In July all Head Start & Early Head Start Centers were closed to children for their summer vacations. • CACFP Application: Updates to the current year’s TDA’s application for each center has been updated and Gregg HS has been submitted and approved. All updates will roll over to the new application year and submitted for approval in September. The new fiscal year for the CACFP programs begins October 1. The Parent Handbook for the 2024-2025 school year has been distributed electronically. Hard copies can be reviewed at the centers on the Parent Boards. Request for Proposals (RFP) are being generated for the following services: Medical & Dental Services, Paper Goods, Janitorial & Kitchen Supplies and Perishable & Non-Perishable Goods.

GCCSA/ECE Monthly Check-In – The Child Development Manager and the Assistant Director met with the ECE SHINE representative this month to discuss teacher needs and the Teacher Success Rubric implementation. The Child Development team continues to work with our SHINE partner in the roll out plans for the Teacher Success Rubric. A tool that will help teachers self-assess to improve their teaching skills. The Child Development Manager is working with the Human Resource Department to recruit qualified applicants for interviews for the two Child Development Specialists’ open positions. Child Development participated in curriculum training for Raul Yzaguirre entitled ‘Teaching Strategies”. Child Development Specialists provided support to the teaching teams. They also provided guidance, support, and encouragement to educators pursuing advancing their careers and contributing to their profession. Head Start Week 1 of August focused on children transitioning to pre-kindergarten, classroom routines, expectations and procedures.
