WORTHING THEATRES AND MUSEUM

The razor-sharp new comedy
The Wardrobe Ensemble ‘Party Season’

Worthing Museum REOPENED!

We are getting ready to open the doors and welcome you back. We look forward to the sound of people laughing, talking and engaging after a year of drills, dust and general upheaval.

Counting down to the reopening of your museum on 28th March we are excited to reveal the changes made; those through necessity imposed by the new heating system, but mostly those that maximised the opportunity we had to update the displays, enhancing the visitor experience with a modern, accessible space and exhibits.

We remain committed to maximising the use of the collections to tell the stories of Worthing and the Sussex region in the wider global landscape. Bringing the Collection to life for more people while remaining relevant for our loyal visitors and younger audiences.

We remain a vital trusted space that provides context to our region’s treasures, to entertain, engage, and educate, connecting people and our communities with each other and their history.

This is just the beginning of the journey. We will continue to engage with our communities, shaping your museum to keep it relevant and celebrating its position, value and importance to you, our local residents.

Local legends brought to life in an exhibition by Figment Arts

Another Sussex

Richmond Room, Assembly Hall

Learning disabled, autistic and neurodivergent artists from the Figment Arts Studio have been working along the south coast to explore the rich and varied folklore of the area.

The exhibition contains original works made by the studio group members and large scale collaborative paintings which represent the combined brush strokes of over 600 people who took part in our workshops.

Come and share your superstitions, browse our popup folklore library and immerse yourselves in artwork inspired by the mythological and magical creatures of our local area.

Open to public from Sat 28 Mar last day Sat 20 June

OPEN26

OPEN26 marks the reopening of Worthing Museum with a free, much-loved community exhibition celebrating local artists, communities and the Sussex environment.

Supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, this year’s OPEN focuses on Sustainability, reflecting the museum’s major transformation during its yearlong closure.

Artists were invited to submit work for this special exhibition, which is part of our programme of reopening events.

Open to public from Sat 28 Mar last day Sat 5 Sep

The museum’s Archaeology galleries have been reimagined during our closure over the last year.

A proportion of our artefacts, many of which were in storage for years, will be on display for the first time, as well as old favourites like the Highdown Goblet. Our chronological narrative has evolved, and we’re particularly excited to welcome our visitors to the new Medieval Gallery, showcasing the story of the Worthing area up to the early modern period. We have also acquired a number of important new artefacts from the area, including one of only two Roman-era wagon axles from Britain, and a beautiful Roman coin hoard from Lyminster. New lighting and colourschemes complete the transformation of these galleries, ensuring our important Archaeological Collections are fit for the future.
