Johnsonville musician Chris Lam Sam is not one to let the grass grow under his feet. An 18-year reunion of the Wellington Carnival Street Band has led to an unlikely reformation. Formed in 1997 by current band leader, Jacqueline Nordon, who is a music teacher at Mana College

and some friends for a gig in Waikanae. They started with three regular players and expanded to 15 by the mid-2000s. The band was active at festivals, protests, Te Papa, and the Lord of the Rings red carpet movie premiere as well as busking on Wellington streets until 2004. Continued on page 2.
The Wellington Carnival Street Band was formed in ’97 and played around the region for many years. A gig highlight included the LOTR red carpet premiere.
