WRT prepared both a campus master plan and landscape master plan for the University. The landscape master plan concept extends the park-like character of Tower Lawn to the campus edges, beckoning visitors and knitting together the campus with a consistent landscape image. The planting concept emphasizes the botanical diversity and drought tolerance of the campus landscape.
In 2013, WRT completed an update of the original landscape master plan giving further definition to landscape zone palettes and also addressing the important issue of shifting tree species palette due to climate change. The updated landscape master plan also revamped the entire recommended plant list in response to the campus’ use of reclaimed water as the primary source of irrigation water. WRT subsequently completed the Arts Building Courtyard and Sweeney Hall Plaza implementation projects.
