Spooky season in Baldwin Park! T

BRIE BERNSTEL MULTIMEDIA & COMMUNITY COORDINATOR

here’s no shortage of things happening in Baldwin Park this October! As cooler evenings and spooky season settle into the neighborhood, the community calendar is packed with plenty of reasons to get out and enjoy everything Baldwin Park has to offer. From neighborhood nights out and community decorating contests to themed run club nights and seasonal celebrations, October brings neighbors, local businesses and families together all month long. Whether you’re looking to get festive, get active or simply spend an evening out in the neighborhood, there’s something happening around every corner. Things are getting spooky in Baldwin Park with the return of Baldwin Park After Dark — the neighborhood’s annual Halloween decorating contest — from Oct. 1 - 27! Each October, residents transform their homes into festive displays filled with glowing pumpkins, creepy creatures, haunting decorations and plenty of Halloween spirit. Neighbors are encouraged to go all out for a chance to be named one of the top three best decorated homes, with each winner taking home a $100 gift card. Get those pumpkins ready! Baldwin Park is coming together for another National Night Out Oct. 6 at Corrine Commons, 1913 Meeting Place! More than just a neighborhood block party, National Night Out is an opportunity to strengthen the partnership between residents and the Orlando Police Department while promoting a safer, more connected community. This year’s celebration will feature a live performance by the Glenridge Middle School band, group dancing with Coach Taylor, complimentary face painting, Kona Ice and more. Orlando Police Department also

BALDWIN PARK LIVING | OCTOBER 2026

will join the festivities with giveaways and resources for residents. Mark your calendar, bring the family and your neighbors, and join us for an evening of community, connection and fun! Calling all little ghosts, goblins and superheroes! The annual Mini Monster Bash returns Oct. 24 to Corrine Commons for a Halloween celebration created especially for Baldwin Park’s youngest residents. Sponsored by the Baldwin Park Residential Owners Association, this family-friendly event will feature a DJ keeping the party going, complimentary games, face painting, balloon artists and plenty of festive Halloween fun. Kids are encouraged to come dressed in their favorite costumes and get ready for an afternoon of tricks, treats and spooky-season memories with their neighbors! Spooky season meets run club at Tactical Brewing’s annual Zombie Run Oct. 29! This community favorite puts a Halloween twist on your typical run, combining zombie costumes, a little friendly competition and, of course, beer. Participants are encouraged to dress up as zombies and hit the course for a capture-the-flag-style run, where every flag you make it back with earns you a free beer. Whether you’re running for the challenge, the brews or just an excuse to dress like the undead,

it’s always a fun-filled night in Baldwin Park. Head to Tactical Brewing’s social media accounts for full event details and get ready to run for your life! Halloween night is one of the most anticipated traditions of the year in Baldwin Park, and it’s easy to see why the neighborhood has earned recognition as a top destination for trick-or-treating. On Oct. 31, the entire community gets into the Halloween spirit, with residents decorating their homes, families filling the sidewalks and local businesses joining in on the fun. Trick-or-treating typically gets underway around 5:30 p.m. and continues until about 7:30 p.m., creating two lively hours of costumes, candy and neighborhood fun. With homes and businesses participating throughout the community, Baldwin Park comes alive on Halloween night and offers families a festive way to celebrate right in their own neighborhood. From spooky homes and costumed runners to neighborhood gatherings and trick-or-treating, October is one of the most exciting times of the year to be in Baldwin Park. These events are about more than celebrating the season, they’re an opportunity to get outside, meet your neighbors, support local businesses and enjoy the strong sense of community that makes Baldwin Park such a special place to call home. So, grab your costumes, mark your calendars and get ready for a month packed with fall fun. We can’t wait to see you out and about around the neighborhood this October!

etting your nails done is so much fun, because it combines instant creative self-expression with tactile pampering and total control over your look. The physical touches — such as hand massages and sitting in a dedicated chair — reduce stress, while showing off a fresh set gives you continuous micro-bursts of joy and confidence every time you look down at your hands. Baldwin Nails & Spa has been a flagship Baldwin Park retail establishment since 2008. The longstanding fixture of the Baldwin

Park community specializes in manicures and pedicures, with a core mission centered on dedicated service and personalized care with every visit. Hands-on owners Sandy and Sony Huynh are deeply involved in every aspect of Baldwin Nails & Spa’s inspiring success story. “Businesses thrive when they feel welcomed and supported by the community, and we are so very fortunate to have been embraced so enthusiastically by the residents and fellow small business owners of Baldwin Park,” Sandy Huynh says. Regular self-pampering actively reduces stress hormones such as cortisol, boosts mood-enhancing neurotransmitters such as serotonin, and lowers physical tension. Taking consistent time out for personal care — whether through at-home routines or professional services — prevents burnout, improves skin, hair and nail health,

and supports a more resilient, positive mindset. “Aside from the brand-new nails, there is a real sensory pleasure and positive mood improvement attached to time spent in the salon,” Sandy Huynh says. Baldwin Park Nails & Spa is not just for the ladies, either. Men are heading to nail salons in record numbers, representing a major shift in the men’s grooming industry. About 25% of men in North America now get regular professional manicures or pedicures, focusing on basic hygiene such as nail-clipping, cuticle care and buffing—often called a “sports manicure” — to ensure clean, healthy hands and nails. Others embrace bold nail art and polish as a popular form of self-expression and style. “We take immense pride in cleanliness at Baldwin Nails & Spa,” Sony Huynh says. “It is a direct reflection of our professionalism and a core pillar of client trust. From daily deep cleans to strict sanitation protocols, we go the extra steps to maintain an immaculate space that ensures a welcoming, safe and premium service.” Mom-and-daughter nail salon dates are a major trend and offer the perfect opportunity for shared pampering and conversation. Baldwin Nails & Spa offers specialized kids’ menus, matching color sets and dedicated time for quality, uninterrupted bonding. More dads

The physical contact and pampering in a salon, along with a bit of casual conversation, stimulate the release of feel-good hormones like oxytocin and dopamine. “We take immense professional and personal satisfaction that our clients have a great nail salon experience and leave feeling pampered and confident with their new look,” Sandy Huynh says. “We love hearing our clients report back that they are asked, ‘Wow! Whether you are browsing inspiration on social media or experimenting with wild colors, it’s a fun, low-stakes way to play with fashion trends and signal your individual aesthetic. Routine manicure and pedicure services at Baldwin Nails & Spa help keep nail beds healthy and prevent infections. “Nail-styling is a highly visible and versatile form of personal expression,” Sandy Huynh says. “We want to achieve a manicure and pedicure style that can help you curate a look that feels completely, authentically you.” A trip to Baldwin Nails & Spa serves as a mini-escape. acrifice is an unwritten rule of being a first responder. First responders field calls of all types — some routine and ordinary, and others that are devastating and life-altering. Orlando Fire Station 6, “In the Air or on the Ground,” has proudly served the Baldwin Park community since 1979. Lt. Travis Reynolds is a 19-year veteran of the Orlando Fire Department. He was inspired to join the OFD for the opportunity to excel in a physically and mentally engaging profession centered on public service. In his years of service with the Orlando Fire

12

Department he has been rewarded with thrilling camaraderie, forged tight-knit, lifelong friendships and built a fulfilling career. “I’ve been a firefighter-paramedic for more than 20 years,” Reynolds says. “I was drawn to this profession because it combines public service, teamwork and the opportunity to make a difference during some of the most critical moments in a person’s life. I’ve always been motivated by helping others, and this career has allowed me to serve my community in a meaningful way every day.” Many first responders draw spiritual protection and courage from the Bible, with Scriptures offering comfort, strength and

BALDWIN PARK LIVING | OCTOBER 2026

wisdom during high-stress crises. Verses such as Isaiah 41:10, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you” are frequently cited as promises of divine shielding and endurance for emergency workers facing dangers. “I draw deep, personal inspiration from Isaiah 6:8 — ‘Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?’ And I said, ‘Here am I. Send me!’’” Reynolds says. The original Orlando Fire Station 6 was located on Robinson Street inside the Orlando Exec-

utive Airport. On Nov. 18, 2025, the new Fire Station 6 opened on 3900 Showalter Aviation St., in a more centralized location to give first responders better access to key areas in the station’s first due including Baldwin Park, the Milk District, East Colonial and the Orlando Executive Airport. This prime location ensures rapid response times during emergencies, enhancing the overall safety and well-being of residents. “What I enjoy most is being able to help people when they need it most,” Reynolds says. “Whether it’s a medical emergency, a fire or a community outreach event, every day presents an opportunity to make a positive impact. As a paramedic, I have the added responsibility of providing advanced medical care in the field. As a department, our goals are centered on delivering excellent emergency service, maintaining a high level of training and preparedness, and building strong relationships who the community we serve.” The new state-of-the-art, 15,913-square-foot, four-bay fire

his community. The OFD also keeps him on his toes — no two shifts are the same, allowing for continuous critical-thinking and problem-solving. “Baldwin Park residents might be surprised to learn that the majority of our calls are medical emergencies rather than fires,” Verbal says. “We regularly respond to cardiac events, falls, breathing difficulties, vehicle accidents, and other urgent medical situations. Recently, we responded to an OB/GYN in progress incident. We had a successful delivery of a newborn baby. Medical care was provided for both the newborn and mother en route to the hospital.” There are many ways to express your gratitude to a firefighter — a simple “thank you” can mean a lot to a first responder. Baldwin Park residents can show appreciation by supporting local first responder organizations such as UCF RESTORES, the 2nd Alarm Project, the Orlando Professional Firefighters (IAFF Local 1365) or the Orlando Firefighters Benevolent Association. Donating to or volunteering with the Orlando Fire Department

or Orlando Police Department is another great way to give thanks. “One of the best ways the Baldwin Park community can support first responders is by being prepared,” Verbal says. “Have working smoke detectors, know basic emergency information for your household family members and learn CPR if possible.” The U.S. Fire Administration recognizes National First Responders Day on Oct. 28. You can help raise awareness by utilizing personal social media to spread the word about National First Responders Day using #NationalFirstRespondersDay. Throughout the month, Orlando and Central Florida are host to numerous events to honor first responders. Participate and show your support. “Many firefighters are involved in charitable activities, youth mentoring and community-outreach programs,” Verbal says. “We always appreciate opportunities to meet Baldwin Park residents. Just stop by Fire Station 6 to meet us or request a tour. And we won’t turn down baked goods!”

station was constructed with first responder health and safety in mind with amenities to best achieve that purpose, including a decontamination room, floor lighting and individual bunk rooms. The new station has delivered immediate, wide-reaching benefits across multiple operational areas. “Our greatest impact is providing a sense of safety and reliability,” Reynolds says. “People know that when they call 911, someone will respond quickly and professionally. What makes me most proud is seeing our crew come together under challenging circumstances and knowing that our actions can genuinely improve outcomes for individuals and families during difficult times.” Firefighters and first responders sacrifice their physical safety, mental peace and personal time to protect their communities. They regularly trade holidays, family milestones and sleep for unpredictable shifts. Lt. Ron Verbal is a 28-year veteran of the Orlando Fire Department. The following information is a glimpse of the ROA’s general updates for the month. A copy of the official June 23, 2026, Regular Meeting minutes can be obtained on the Community Network, BaldwinParkNetwork.com. n The board heard from the association’s insurance agent and discussed what to expect for premiums in 2027. Mr. Masi recommended the association budget flat, as although he anticipates a 10% increase in the liability lines, the anticipated savings in the property lines should keep premiums the same as in 2026. He advised the association always can consider a buffer as we have not been through hurricane season. n The board approved Mr. Dan Dixson’s appointment to the ARC.

HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS Summer in Florida is here and brings with it longer days, heat, humidity and, of course, the beginning of hurricane season, which runs through Nov. 30. While the prospect of a storm impacting our area can be somewhat disconcerting, preparation can help lessen those fears. Preparing in advance for hurricane season can determine not only how safely and comfortably you ride out the storm but also how easy it is to handle the days and weeks after the storm has passed. The Baldwin Park Residential Owners Association, Commercial Owners Association and Joint Committee are responsible for the property owned by each association, including certain parks, facility centers, parking lots and landscaping. All residents should prepare for hurricane season by creating a family plan and disaster supply kit, securing personal property and having a place to go in the event of an evacuation. A plan should answer the following questions. How will I receive emergency alerts and warnings? What is my shelter plan? What is my evacuation route? What is my family/ household communication plan? Maintenance Tips. If you live in a townhome, you have probably received the information below in the past, but it is great information to keep handy in case one of these situations happens to you. n Dryer not drying? Clean the vent to prevent lint buildup and a possible fire hazard. n Use the correct wattage light bulbs for exterior lighting fixtures. Plastic fixtures can melt. Check the tag posted inside the fixture or contact the manufacturer for the proper wattage. n Weather-strip around your doors and windows to help lower utility bills, prevent water intrusion, and prevent unwanted pests from entering your home. n See black lines running down your garage door? Adjust the garage door tensioner heads. n Need a copy of the Master Insurance Policy for your townhome? Please email Liz Rouleau, TSAC Administrative Assistant, at TSACAdminAssistant@ baldwinparkpoa.com with your request. All association buildings that have been repainted have used AllGuard, a specialized coating with a 10-year warranty for use on stucco surfaces. Do not pick, poke, rip, tear or penetrate the protective seal. Doing so can damage the surface. If you pressure-wash, do not use a pressure higher than 1,500 psi. Simple Green is the only approved cleaning product. Avoid spraying any chemicals directly onto the building due to a possible chemical reaction with the product.

n ARC. An architectural review is required for all exterior, and some interior, changes, including roof replacement, painting, signs and landscaping changes. Even if the project is a like-for-like project, the COA will need an application to review and approve. For the city to approve permits, the Commercial Owners Association must sign off on the project. All corresponding applications can be located on the Baldwin Park Network under Commercial Owners Association and Commercial Architectural Review Committee. For questions and application submission please feel free to email Erin at egilreath@ baldwinparkpoa.com. n Towing. All nine parking lots in the Village Center are privately owned by the Commercial Association. The owners have adopted rules and regulations for these

parking lots. Any vehicle not following the rules is subject to towing at the owner’s expense. This includes out-of-date tags/stickers; inoperable vehicles; double parking; and abandoned vehicles. The parking lots are for residents and guests of the apartments and employees and customers of the commercial businesses. n Trash Talk. The dumpsters in the commercial lots are for use of commercial tenants and apartment residents. Apartment residents are encouraged to throw their trash all the way down the chute on the side. When the door is closed, it will compact. Commercial tenants are not to use the trash chute for discarding trash. Rather, they are to go inside the enclosure and throw directly in the dumpster. Apartment residents are welcome to do this as well if the chute is blocked. Please do not leave trash bags in front of or around the dumpster; this attracts bugs and rodents. If the

dumpster is not working, go to one of the other parking lot dumpsters and contact the office. n Bulk Pick-up. The dumpsters in the commercial lots are meant for trash bags and small items only. For all large items, please use OUC bulk pick-up. Stuffing these items in the dumpster or leaving them causes multiple issues, including dumpster break down and rodents. Visit orlando.gov/Trash-Recycling for more information and to schedule future pick-ups. n Baldwin Park Solutions.
