Retrospect
After such a turbulent few years, many of us are left wondering what could have been, if not for these unfortunate circumstances. As we now try to pick up from where we left of and create something new, we look to the past for inspiration. It’s always dificult to know if we’re doing the right thing, but the best way to tell is to judge by the aftermath.
In keeping with this theme, this Year’s Edition of the Whispering Pine focuses on retrospection, and the importance of learning from our past. And there’s no better way to do that than relive it.
“The mark of a good action is that it appears inevitable in retrospect.”
- R. L. Stevenson

I appreciate all the things that you have done said and done for me. ABaljeet: You’re the Veronica to my Matt. I cannot overstate how lucky I am to have a roommate that can objectify me in the uniquely special ways you do. You are the centrepiece of my best memories & I’ll miss every second of our time together, my melanin challenged compatriot. Thank you for your endless love, support, humour, & money. I love you. Dyum dyum: Though you are tiny, your vibes are jusht the wow. I feel like I’ve known you for over a month. I cannot describe how much you’ve come to mean to me. Thank you for existing, that was very cool of you. I will see you on the beach, or in the plane you buy for me. I am not buying you a house, but we can get rich together. Chopda: I’ve never dreamt anyone quite like you could exist, & I’m so lucky to be wrong. Thank you for everything, your patience, your smile, your time. Woodstock was missing a piece before you decided to solve that for me, I’m so lucky to have you. Thank you. Mahk: Hey sexy. If I was as talented as you, I’d walk around like I was 6 feet tall. Fortunately, you are also that. This ain’t any goodbye, I’ll see you at a family reunion. Aman: You can call me crazy, & this is probably self-flattery, but I’ve always seen us as parallel versions of each other, ambivalent states of being. The way you apply yourself to everything & refuse to quit until you’re satisfied with your mastery baffles me. You inspiration. Junho: You’re so cool bro. I’m so happy we got to room together and less happy we shared a bed that often. Stay in touch, stop touching me. Ark: My guy. Rishikesh, Football, Physics, and Math couldn’t have been anything that they were without you. I can’t wait for everything you do. Winterline gang: bro I love y’all for everything and not one second of WS would’ve been the same without you legends, y’all mean the world to me. Y’all are my boys, from study buddies to teammates. You guys are the reasons I am who I am, for better or for worse. Daksh: My cute baby, I love you. From being a study buddy to my support system, I’m so lucky to know we’re in each other’s corners. Shoulda moved to my room tho. Bajo: You are a bully. Thank you for helping me become one. Aryaman: I know you’ll keep everything perfect, and I can’t wait for you to call me about everything you’ve created. You’ve helped me make so much with time we’ve had together, slow down sometimes my guy, we know you’ll do great things. Ashish: CAPTAIN! You legend, you’re the nicest, smartest guy, and it’s a privilege to know you. Stay in touch please. The world is yours and if there’s anyone that deserves it, it’s you.
The Football Team: Being captain was the experience of a lifetime. You guys taught me more than I ever could’ve hoped for. Every memory, every minute of practice and every meal together made me come to appreciate and admire you guys more. Like we’ve all said on every bus ride. Man, I love this team. I still relive those unforgettable moments, and I’ve never been more honoured, privileged, and proud to be line-up on a field before. Thank you for every second. I’d give anything to do it all again. The NASA Team: You guys are incredible. The sheer amount of willpower, skills, and energy brought to a room when you all come together is unimaginable. Thank you for everything you managed to pull off and the unforgettable days together. I will always be the champion of 4:00 am CC basketball. Good luck for everything coming your way and the incredible things I know y’all will go on to do. Let me know if I can ever help. To Asia and beyond. Ms. T: I would unequivocally let you medicate me through anything. Let me know if you need help putting these twerps in their places, though I’m sure you have it on lock. Mr. Ansari: Thank you for defining my life at Woodstock, you made the mountainside more special than I ever thought it could have been. My Dorm Parents: Thank you for the life you gave me, Woodstock felt more like my main home than anything else, and the love brought to every day gave me the kindest, most meaningful support. Nothing would be possible without you. Ms. Nicole, Ms. Basu, Ms. Aanchal, Ms. Joona, Mr. Roy, Mr. Bernard: Everything I have come to be capable of in all measures of holistic growth have been a direct result of your help, time, and energy. Thank you so much for everything. Everyone else: This entire community has shaped me in unimaginable ways, I hope I managed to make the impacts I was so supported in doing.
Mum & Dad: Thank you so much for everything you’ve given me over the years. Not just the material things, but all the opportunities, love, and support. I wouldn’t have been able to make it without you guys. Remy: Don’t forget, you have to sign up for football, badminton, AP courses, learn karate, 3 instruments, and everything else that I wasn’t able to do. All jokes aside, make the most of the time you have, it goes by a lot faster than you realise. Oscar: Congratulations on graduating film school!! I hope that you’ve had a great year, and that things finally worked out well. Arjun: My longest running roomie and friend. It’s been such an amazing year and a half with you, I can’t believe it’s nearly over. Thank you so much for all your guidance, support, and kurkure. I can’t wait to get free tickets to space, or at least a long explanation on the aerodynamics of it. You better keep in touch. Junho: My weirdest and most controversial friend by far. From trying to convince me that slavery makes sense, to making your girlfriend misogynistic, there’s a lot that you’re capable of. It’s been great to be able to get close to you in the past few months, and I know you’ll go on to account for a person who does great things. Mark: You’re so kind hearted, smart, sweet, a very talented musician, and overall a good person. I’m so glad that you were my first DP roommate, you made it just that much better. Anna: The person who made assemblies bearable and my free periods so much more interesting, thank you. I still don’t get how you had that many free periods, but you made up for it with all the coffee you bought me. Asha: You are in some messed up way, my oldest friend by years. Although we’ve been kind of on and off, you have always been there to support me when I needed it. Those late night talks after mediocre school events were always interesting. Let me know when you get into Cambridge, I’d love to visit. Samiya, Faith, & Selma: I don’t know what I would’ve done without you last semester. You made my life so much more interesting, fun, and I’ve learned so much from you guys. Samiya you taught me how to read people, Faith you’ve shown me how easy cross country is, and Selma you’re amazing simply for putting up with all my America questions. Niko and Husain: Nikolas it’s been a blessing to get to know such an absolute physical and mental unit. Your incredible strength, kindness, and mind will take you so far in life. Husain you’re one of a kind, and it’s been so interesting getting to know you. I can’t wait to work together at Summer School. Anaahat: You’ve always been there for me, to keep me accountable, make sure I stay sane, and to torture me with no mercy. I’m going to miss absolutely destroying you at every single sport known to man, and your unique conversation style. Ms Aastha: I’ve loved working with you for the past 3 years, and even though it hasn’t always been easy it has definitely been rewarding. Thank you for all your guidance and endless support, I don’t think we’d have a yearbook without you. Ms Nicole, Ms Aradhana, & Mr Farnham: All of you have had a profound impact on my life at school, and thank you so much for not making me hate my favourite subjects. You’ve been such incredible teachers and people, and I feel so lucky to have been taught by you. YB Team: Thanks to all the designers who made this yearbook possible, and good luck in the future!

Dad, Mom & Dhir : Thank you for sending me to Woodstock for the greatest learning experience of my life. I will never forget your foresight and will forever be grateful. Dhir, don’t lose sight of where we have to reach. Long way to go. Nysa : Thank you for being the absolute best roommate I could’ve asked for. I’ve known no one to be more stubborn, or more caring. I was most myself with you, and you always made me feel like things would be all right. Thank you for crying and laughing with me. You star, I love you. Arjun : Ahrun, thank you for being a constant. It has been an honor to see you evolve into the individual you are today. You’re stuck with me for life, loser. To private jets and making a bucket load of money. Aditi : I hope I’ll get a chance to be your date again, soon enough. There’s no one I’ll miss more. Football team : The team is never one player. Although it pains me to say goodbye, I’d like to thank you for being my family at Woodstock. I love you guys. Keep up the dedication and passion, and no one can beat us. (Him Jyoti is never counted when I make statements like these) Eighth graders, step up and put in the effort. You are our game changers. Ninth grade, ask for help when you need it. Tenth grade, continue being the backbone of the team. Eleventh grade, imbibe leadership in the team. I’m proud of all of you. Keep me updated on it all. And whoever beats Rinzing's stairs' record, lunch is on me. Devyani, Jasleen and Diya : Thank you bhai. You’ve made me a better human. I wouldn't be President if not for you. Jasleen, please stick in there and fight the odds. Diya, I'm sorry for all the times I wasn't there. I know and trust you'll make all of us proud. Devyani, I love you man. Have a warm bread jam for me someday in senior year. Priyanshi : Trust yourself. Fight, and fight hard. I’m always a call away. Mr B : Thank you for everything. I’ll always remember you, and how you called football soccer. Miss Aastha : Thank you. I learnt the most about marketing, myself and life sitting in your office. Thank you for trusting me. Miss Priya : Thank you for setting me up for senior year. I owe a lot to you. Miss Sarah and Mr Prateek : Miss Sarah, I tell everyone this, but you are true favourite. Thank you for making everything so much easier. Thank you for always being there for the class, Mr Prateek. I will never forget the two of you. Miss Prarthana : Thank you for becoming my family away from home, and taking care of me. Vidisha : I love you tiny human. We are the true gym boys. Mishika : I’m going to leave it at SUIIIIIII. You'll do great. Liliana : Don't doubt yourself. You deserve the world. Kyra : You inspired me to get a science degree. I love you, and wouldn’t be the same without you. Mark : Markus, keep at it man. So excited to see where you go. Jayant : It was an unexpected pleasure to work with you. Probably the most capable person I’ve seen. Aaram se chal le, I know you can take over the world. Sumaira : I’ve learnt a lot from you, and how you stand up for others. Thank you for making Arjun bearable. Gursi: Thank you bhai, this can't be goodbye. Keya & Kimaya : Thank you for being the best seniors. Future StuCo : Forget about the power. Start working for the school. Valorem : Best of luck! Keep a few couches open, I’ll see you guys around. Woodstock : Thank you for trusting me to be President, I hope I was able to do it justice. If there's one thing I want to leave behind, I got an 8/110 in Math, but it worked out. High school, you've been a beauty. We'll be fine, or maybe not. Here's to hoping we all figure it out. Good night bois. I'll miss you.
Nysa
Mom, Dad- I cannot express how grateful I am for everything you have done for me. Thank you for teaching me responsibility and shaping me into the person I am today. I wouldn't be the person I am without you both. Even if I don't say much, I love you both and will miss you. Thank you for always being there for me and having my back. You guys are fantastic. Dyumna- Bachelors of Science, I love you man. There is no better roommate than you. You've been there for me and my rock since the day we met. You were always there for me when I needed something. Thank you for making my high school worth it. You've seen me at my worst and stood by my side at my best. We have memories that are unrivalled. I can't wait to see you launch your own business. Even if you're a thousand miles away, I'm not going to stop bugging you. Nothing I can say will ever be enough to express my gratitude to you because you truly have the biggest heart. Ria- Ria, I have no words that can express you. Whenever I wanted help, whenever I was sick, whenever I lost my things (which would be found in the dustbin) you were there beside me. Our inner jokes, the code names, everything I will rejoice and miss, you waking me up and then irritating you that I still have two minutes. BTW those two minutes are life. I am blessed to have a friend like you. I know that if you wouldn't be there, I would have missed almost or every day of school. Thank you for always being there when nobody else was. I love you so much that words can never express the actual depth of my feelings. Navya- Navya, it's been a journey with you and that journey will never end. Whenever you want to talk about something, I will be just a call away from you. Don't think twice before you call. I know I will miss you a little too much even if I say I won't. Enjoy school as much as you can. You won't understand right now but trust me you will. I also never thought that I would be saying this. You are the greatest gift one could have asked for, and I am so glad that you are my sister. No matter how far apart our lives, I’ll always find a way to return to you. No one in my life, no matter what, can ever truly replace you. Sisters by chance, friends by choice. Yuvika- Yuvi, I cannot believe that two years have passed by so quickly. It feels like I have known you for a really long time. Gonna miss you so much. Will party together in Canda. Songa- Songaaaa, I will miss you. I will miss how you are always sad and sleepy and then be awake for food and again go back to sleep. I will keep teaching you more hindi and punjabi songs. Just shift to India. Anyways you are more than ninety percent indian. Jihoon- Jihoon, I will miss the walks with you and how you used to keep running behind your physics teacher and cry even if you had like a 35 predicted. You are just another topper kid. Will miss you and those basketball sessions. Dite- Dite my basketball buddy. I know you did not win from me in one on one but yes you have always pushed me to my limit. Wellll I will definitely miss playing bb with you and thrashing you to it. Shiv- Shivvvvv. OMG i know those hindi classes would not be bearable without you. BTW, Just to confirm, I am NOT Bengali. So yeah.Keep in touch. Sumaira- Sumi, these two years with you have been amazing. I would never want anyone except you by my side as a captain. We have just killed it together. Thank you so much for giving me this memorable 2 years of my life. Rushita- rushiiii, Loved the times we walked up to school together and will miss how i used to irritate you so much everyday. Basketball Team- Guysss remember, I will MISS YOU ALL SO MUCH and I AM VERY PROUD OF YOU ALL. I loved the times in Kodi and other matches and how we all just slept in the squash court during Win Mumby. I would have not asked for a better team. Definitely I will miss you all the most. Miss Kalpana- Miss Kalpana, thank you for supporting me through thick and thin. I would not be in love with maths if it wasn't for you. You just made it so interesting. I know that whenever I have a problem ever again later in life, You will be there beside me. Thank you so much for helping me through everything. I will miss you and Umika. Mr Tilak & Mr Kenton- Coaches, you both have shaped me who I have become. Before joining Woodstock, I was not sure and was not confident in my game but after you coached me for a few months, I am now more confident in doing what I do. Basketball is my life and would not leave it even when I am in college and I am so obliged to have the two of you coaching me for the past few months. Sakshi and Kritvi- You both are the best juniors. I am very proud of you both. COntinue what you both are doing. Sakshi, continue with your English. Be confident in yourself. Don't think twice. If you want anything just call me. Kritvi, you enjoy the UK and have a new start. Fit in and make a change in your new school also.

Advisor Photos...
... & Messages
I have had two advisor groups in this class of 2023 since grade 9 and have had the present group since grade 10. Co-advisors have also changed though I have had the privilege to remain with this group for the three years leading to their graduation. Yes, the pandemic and the lockdown have been integral to our experiences as an advisor group when much of our face time and interaction took place online. We have been back on campus since last Spring and have been able to meet together in person, not just for advisor group and homeroom but also for advisor nights and class nights.
The student in my group who has been at Woodstock the longest is Tanvi Garg who joined in 2016 in grade 6. Two of the students joining in grade 8 in 2018 are Nakshatra Bajaj and Jihoon Kim. Yuvika Vohra has been at Woodstock for four years since grade 9. Ahaan Agrawal has been here since grade 10 and the remaining students, Arpita Kohli, Oneeka Jesuraja, Prisha Agrawal and Dite Apang joined us in grade 11.
It has always been fascinating to observe students grow from being children into the maturity of young adults. During distance learning there were challenges meeting online, with screen-shy students with either having their camera off or with just the forehead visible. Not mentioning names, there was one student whom I would not have recognized in person from our online meetings.
This advisor group is special and one that I will cherish even as I come close to the end of my own long tenure at Woodstock. Needless to say, each person is unique with strengths and potential for contribution and leadership in life. This group has seen members involved in community service, creative writing, business enterprise and serving on the academic honesty council. You know who you are if you are reading this message. Tanvi, Nakshatra, Jihoon, Yuvika, Ahaan, Dite, Oneeka, Arpita and Prisha, you all have been a privilege to be with until your graduation. Wishing you all the best for your future and hoping to see you again.
Sayonara!
Mr. Ravi Arthur
It has been a privilege getting to know you ten wonderful human beings. The ‘oldies’ I’ve watched growing up since 9th grade for whom Woodstock has been more than just a school. Those who came later and who left their mark each in their own unique way, boisterous or quiet, all profoundly signifcant. The punctual and the habitually late. Basketball players, MMA fghters, airplane pilots, artists, scientists, entrepreneurs. The road has been bumpy at times but I hope you have learned the right lessons along the paths you have trod so far. This is the miracle of life, full of hope and possibility, growth and learning. Each of your lives is so precious, so full of potential. I wish you all the best. Take the path of integrity and empathy and you will do well in life.

To Aarav, Ashmit, Dyumna, Keso, Rhea and Shreya,
It has been an extraordinary few years since I have been your advisor. From the Grade 9 retreat to the unexpected, but then normalized Zoom sessions, to trying to get back to “regular” school, it has been one crazy ride. The fact that we had so many from our group leave us only made it harder to keep everything together.
I realise that high school did not end up like you all had imagined it, but you made the best of it in the end. Even though right now Senior year may seem like a long string of deadlines, believe me, that will be the last thing you think about in a few years.
I really hope your time at Woodstock will have made you appreciative of the friends you have, the family that you will now have for the rest of your life, the connections you have and will make by being a student from this school.
It has not been easy, and it has not been smooth sailing throughout, but honestly, high school never is, even in the best of circumstances.
I really hope you will stay in touch with each other and me. Just remember, you all have a home in Woodstock or wherever we are in the world (not right after Grad though). You all did not let life cow you down these past few years and I hope that your time here will launch you to great things.
Prateek Santaram
Our group was the right mix of studiousness and laziness, from super excited ones to quiet listeners, from STUCO leaders to sports team captains and from chatterboxes to bunkies.
It has only been a year that I have been with you in this role but it has been a matter of joy to have known some of you from the time you joined Woodstock as a Grade 5 student. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time with you guys in various roles - as a parent of your classmate, PSHE teacher, Activity Week Staff chaperone and now, as an Advisor and a Homeroom head.
I will fondly remember our advisor meetings flled with your open communications - Preksha’s sudden insights, Rhea’s intense bio revisions, Shivom’s video evidence of ‘arrival’, Jayant’s sudden disappearance, Daniella’s smile as an answer to all problems, Tsering’s every morning message to clarify the advisor meetings, Ronit’s basketball stories and our own Zenith’s promise to get a massage chair for future advisees.
It has been my privilege to spend time with an amazing group who always made me feel proud and I must concede that I never once had to step into the shoes of a strict teacher thanks to your exemplary behaviour as Seniors.
Finally, as you prepare to start the next chapter of your life, refect on your journey. Be proud of your achievements, and celebrate your successes but don’t forget to bring a smile to your neighbour by spreading positivity, kindness and humility.
My prayer for you all is,
“ Let go of your problems.
And let God handle them.
Let go of your hurt
And let God heal you.
Let go of your fear
And let God sustain you
Let go of all your worries
And let God bless you”
Always remember to be Good Human Beings. … Love you all
Ms. Binu
Congratulations and goodbye to my advises of the class of 2023. Without question, the best thing about Woodstock is the students, and the best thing about Woodstock students is the class of 2023, and the best thing about the class of 2023 is Mr. Farnham’s and Mr. Manoj’s advisory. It’s just a fact, you can’t argue with facts.
Thank you Swayam, Shivratan, Isha, Chaitanya, Naavya and Aadi. Swayam, I will never forget your online learning stories about life, the universe and everything. Our Darling Sanu,
Pretty, witty, and pretty witty is what comes to mind when we describe you. Crazy and drives us crazy – that too!
Moody,
Moody, cranky, fussy all at once to go. Giggly, bubbly, chirpy is your alter ego.
You love challenges – just that u throw them at us A challenge to wake you in the mornings, to eat without a fuss!
And that Instagram! We call it a bane of our existence. You say it's the source of your sustenance!
Why are you so different from us? We loved books, hard work and a ride on a bus.
Where is the issue we wonder when our DNAs are a perfect match?

Your cheeky reply, DNA - Designed to Not Adhere –that's the catch!
You are certainly not the daughter of our expectations.
You are much more and beyond imagination!!
Much love, Mum, Dad & Naish

Dear Ashmit
“PRIDE” is what your name means and that's exactly what you are
Being your parent has never been easy for us You introduced a whole new world of amazement each day during your early childhood and it s no less even today Each year has opened a new page of experience where you raised the benchmark of parenting
“Thanks for this roller coaster ride ”
We are reliving your childhood while penning this down
We left no stone unturned to make you eat and sleep Taking you on a drive to make you sleep and rickshaw ride to make you eat in a day
Sometimes on a swing in a park under hot sun and staff cycles too And ya how can we forget the Volini cap which used to be my spoon for you in those days
Ahhh thinking of all this is giving us goosebumps even today You also played incorrectly like other toddlers but less with toys, more with utensils and shaving kits Hot wheels and gillette were your favorite pastimes and not to forget my patience was what you played with the most
Never seen a little chap so inquisitive and curious about all small details
One moment we would take to thank you that yes we have cracked it and top of our game and next moment you were ready with a new challenge for me Hold on Ashmit and read it wise as now every step of yours will be a matter of your choice and we trust that we have prepared you for all the storms which life may give you
We know you are very head strong Although you listen to everyone but follow your own instinct maybe that’s why you are here today
“WOODSTOCK” was never in our list but you were destined this way
Sky has always been your limit That's why we can't thank you enough because we explored a whole new world during this expedition
Ashmit always
# Follow your courageous heart
# Believe in yourself
# Value your Purpose and work hard to achieve your goal
Never forget Gratitude and forgiveness are the best medicines for life
WISHING YOU A SCINTILLATING COURSE OF LIFE
Love and blessing always, Maa & Papa
We were grateful when you were born to us
We named you Swayam Pramit, one who attains enlightenment by himself . It was a wish and a hope. When you sailed through every hurdle, preterm birth, flat feet, shortsighted ness, Speech issues, bullying we cheered on the sidelines
You make ‘Jabberwocky’ sound perfectly reasonable, you make your friends leave their laptop screens to listen to your stories, you make the audience sit up when you enter the stage, you make our eyes fill with tears of joy when we listen to your narratives
You light up our world and one day the world will be lit up with your words. We are loving every moment of watching you grow and we will be celebrating every step you take . Like it says in an old song

Love you Caspar, Dad, Mum, Remy and Oscar
Dear Caspar,
I know whatever you put your mind to you will achieve. That is a fact. Even though you are graduating I still can’t move on from you being my younger brother. Yet that’s changed now, and it has for some time. We’re brothers and I will always look out for you, no matter where you are. I hope you’ve made the most of your 12th year and you’ve squeezed every single bit of joy from it. I love you Caspar, thank you for keeping me in check sometimes and bringing a more logical and mature side to the things I do. Also just know that our great Monopoly rivalry will live on. It’s not over yet.
Love, Oscar
We are so excited that YOU, our beloved wonderful daughter, is entering in a new phase of life i.e going to University.

You are brave, you are intelligent, you are smart, you are pretty and you are confdent. You must know that God has gifted you with these virtues and you need to learn to believe in yourself more and more….
The best part of you is that you have your own original personality. At this young age you have your own thoughts, opinions, knowledge of many subjects. Being an avid reader has shaped that original person that you are… We are already seeing you how you are taking decisions by weighing alternatives and choosing to do the right thing. Please continue to make wise choices.
Always remember that you are more capable than you know. Lean on yourself and remind yourself that you can accomplish anything that you want.
