Descriptions of each Activity are provided in the following pages. Some Activities are regarded as adventure-based. Being involved may have some higher elements of risk and the possibility of injury, both of a minor and serious nature. It is important that both students and parents are aware of this fact. Second Service - Regenerate & Rebuild Y9-11

Ms Cleine & Mr Colcott

At Woodleigh, respect is something we practice, not just discuss. Second Service invites students to work with materials that have already lived a full life. Furniture worn smooth by hands, pianos that once carried sound through rooms. Rather than discarding these objects, students carefully disassemble them, learning how they were made and what they have endured. Each component is treated with intention. Timber, wire, felt, keys and hardware are not scraps, but materials with a story. Students then reimagine these elements, transforming them into jewellery and sculptural works that carry traces of their past while taking on new meaning. This is not about breaking things apart. It is about understanding them, honouring their service, and extending their life in a different form. Through this process, students engage with sustainability in a tangible way, recognising that materials are not disposable they are simply waiting for their next purpose.
