Chamber C.A.R.E.S. Committees Partners with Children’s Books on Wheels
In
November, the Chamber’s C.A.R.E.S. Committee sought donations for new and gently used eyeglasses for children and adults.
Children’s Books on Wheels was so thankful for all the donations. They were able to assist families with the selection of a pair of glasses to help them see more clearly.
Readers for Readers was a fun project and the committee enjoyed making a difference. If you have the heart for giving back and want to work with a variety of nonprofit organizations, we encourage you to join us for the next C.A.R.E.S. Committee Meeting. The committee meets the first Wednesday of each month at 3:00 p.m. at The Chamber offices.

Volunteers Challenge Students to Expand Possibilities
F
or the 34th year, Education for Tomorrow Alliance’s, Conroe ISD, and area private schools are partnering with business and community volunteers for SCI://TECH. SCI://TECH offers K-12 students the opportunity for handson learning through 13 science, technology, engineering, and math events and activities with events kicking off on January 19. Volunteers bring the 2024 theme, STEM: Expanding the Possible, to life. A highlight of SCI://TECH includes the Chevron Phillips Chemical Senior High Science Fair and the Entergy Junior High Science Fair scheduled for Thursday, January 25 at the Lone Star Convention Center. More than 1,200 students are registered to participate with a life science, physical science, or engineering project. Volunteers play a key role serving as judges for 7:45 am, 9:30 am, and 2:00 pm shifts. Each judge receives a category with a list of projects and has conversations with students about what they researched

and their findings. Science fair judging does not require a background in science, but rather a willingness to engage students. In addition, volunteers can engage through the Huntsman Elementary Science Festival scheduled for Saturday, February 10. Elementary students conduct STEM activities for their peers to explore. How do magnets work? What makes bubbles float? The family-friendly science festival is free and open to the public from 10 am to 4 pm at The Woodlands College Park High School campus. EfTA Program Director Corinne Coulter offered, “Volunteers are a critical part of SCI://TECH. They challenge students to think next step and solve real world problems as students explore STEM concepts. There are many ways volunteers can get involved to help shape these future innovators!” With the support of educators, businesses, and community volunteers, SCI://TECH programming engages nearly 5,000 students each year.
