EfTA Wraps Distinguished Speakers Series This month, Education for Tomorrow Alliance wrapped a year of virtual speaker sessions targeted to high school students. Career-focused sessions were designed to give insights into a variety of career paths and provided the opportunity for students to ask questions. Student surveys showed that students learned about the importance of ongoing education, flexibility, and hard work. “I learned that you can't wait for somebody to hand you opportunities. You need to work hard and focus on your goals to achieve dreams,” shared one high school student. More than 700 students participated in the sessions during the 2021-22 school year thanks to EfTA’s career program sponsors.
EDUCATION FOR TOMORROW ALLIANCE is a nonprofit organization dedicated to cultivating education and community partnerships that advance student success. embers of The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce enjoyed a festive Business After Hours on the lawn at The Palm in Woodforest by Johnson Development.
This master planned community is just northwest of The Woodlands with first-rate amenities and homes to suit the needs of residents in all stages of life. 55+ Multi-Family Complex Coming to Woodforest Construction has started on The Lofts at Pine Market, highend age-restricted apartment homes. Offering an estimated 70,000 square feet, the 7-acre center to the east of Pine Market Avenue and Sundown Stroll Drive will be split into four buildings. Buildings 1 and 2 comprise 55,000 square feet for retail and The Lofts at Pine Market. The other two buildings will be dedicated to retail with more than 8,000 square feet each. The entire third phase is expected to be complete in the fourth quarter of 2022. Realty 1 has completed the first two phases of Pine Market in Woodforest’s commercial corridor for tenants such as Harvest Market, Luv Coffee, Adventure Kids Playcare, Woof Gang Bakery & Grooming, Tacos 2 Go and Premier Martial Arts. In all, 25 retailers have opened in Pine Market. Also open in Woodforest is Woodforest National Bank and Sterling Ridge Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, the first tenant in a planned 100,000-squarefoot office and medical complex. The Insperity Invitational Monster Putt was set up for all attendees. The guest that made the putt or hit the ball closest he Insperity Invitational collaborated with The Woodlands Area Chamber of to the hole won a Honorary Observe Commerce’s Young Professionals Network and Interfaith Young Professionals for Spot. This got them a pass for themself their annual networking social the week of the Insperity Invitational’s tournament at the Alfa Romeo expo adjacent from The Woodlands Country Club Tournament Course. and their guest to walk inside the ropes with a group of PGA TOUR Champions players during an official tournament round at the Insperity Invitational that same weekend. This year’s winner was Robyn Coyne, Client Attraction Representative and Young Professionals Network member, with Weygandt Law.

Attendees were encouraged to bring a door prize from their company or organization. The door prize raffle began at 7:00PM. The event was held on their Fan Experience Area near the main concession adjacent to the 18th fairway. A beer and wine bar, as well as snacks, were provided with high top tables scattered throughout the area. 8

Our first two speakers discussed water in the county/community. SPEAKER #1: Mike Turco, General Manager with HarrisGalveston Subsidence District, discussed preventing subsidence in the Houston region through planning and permitting, research, and water conservation. SPEAKER #2: Alan Black, Deputy Director of Engineering & Construction with the Harris County Flood Control District, discussed flood damage reduction projects that work, with appropriate regard for community and natural
values. Black briefly went over flood reduction strategies, bond programs, and drainage plans.
Our last speaker discussed the MISD Bond election.
SPEAKER #3: Dr. Heath Morrison, Superintendent of Montgomery ISD, discussed the process and planning MISD takes to form a community bond task force as well as bond proposals, bond propositions, and key election dates. KEY ELECTION DATE: • Deadline to Register to Vote: Thursday, April 7, 2022. • Early Voting: April 25 - May 3, 2022 • Election Day: Saturday, May 7, 2022 SPEAKER #4: Dr. Tim Harkrider, Superintendent of Willis ISD, was not able to make the meeting but Willis ISD also has a bond election. UPDATES: Water Education Series We will be having water campaign PSAs for four weeks starting in May. The campaign will take place on all Chamber Platforms and in our weekly Member Memo. As one of our Legislative Priorities, water is such a complex discussion. This is an opportunity to educate our general membership and community on the issue. The education series will lead into a virtual Water Forum. State of Water Forum (Virtual) State of Water Forum is TBD. The event will be a “LIVE” broadcast on all social media channels. C.A.R.E.S. Committee We Salute You in 2022 Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon
T
he C.A.R.E.S. Committee truly raised the bar at this year’s Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon honoring the Chamber’s nonprofit charity organizations. Incorporating this year’s theme “We Salute You,” they transformed the ballroom at the Crowne Plaza into a very patriotic atmosphere. Guests enjoyed a scrolling presentation onstage showcasing the many activities and events accomplished by our charity organizations in the community, demonstrating their impact. Judge Jimmie C. Edwards, III, JSMC RET., with the Montgomery County Veterans Memorial Commission was the featured speaker. Jessica Munselle with 5Point Credit Union, served as this year’s C.A.R.E.S. team leader and Corinne Coulter, Education for Tomorrow Alliance served as co-team leader. Both leaders, along with their team, worked tirelessly to make this year’s luncheon special for those individuals who give so graciously of their time and talents to make our community such an outstanding place to live and work.
