ere at the Chamber, we take great pride in being a resource and voice for all members– from arranging candidate forums to provide our members insight on decisions that affect our community to hosting events such as our very own annual Economic Outlook Conference to discuss the future of our economy. The Woodlands Chamber is privileged and proud to play a role in advocating for a successful business environment. In January, we hosted a meet and greet with Congressman Dan Crenshaw where our members were able to ask questions regarding important issues. Something similar we’ll be hosting, and ahead of the March 1st Primary Election, will be a candidate forum where members are open to meet and ask questions to potential candidates representing the Texas House of Representatives District 15. This forum will be held on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 from 4 PM – 6 PM at the Chamber’s office.
The Chamber will also be hosting its 36th Annual Economic Outlook Conference on Friday, February 11, 2022. This is a great opportunity to learn about economic updates, forecasts, and growth. Business Professionals Help Build the Workforce through Internships Each summer, Education for Tomorrow Alliance, partners with area businesses to offer local students career exploration opportunities. The Student Internship Program (SIP) provides short-term internships to more than 120 rising 12th grade students each summer. Students learn about the daily experiences of one profession that interests them. Host companies offer career mentoring that helps shape students’ career progression. EfTA is seeking partners to host student interns either virtually or in person for Summer 2022. In-person sessions will take place for two consecutive weeks in June or July, while virtual sessions will consist of three or more online sessions where students learn about a field and work on a project to gain understanding about the industry and skills required. “My mentor is definitely one of the biggest reasons why I decided to pursue law as my
future career. Since there are no lawyers in my family, I really appreciated his advice and mentorship. Even to this day, we occasionally keep up with each other!” shared Pearlyn, a 2018 SIP intern and current University of Texas at Austin student.

We are working to complete the right of way acquisitions to begin the construction process. I-45 N North Houston Highway Improvement Project (NHHIP) The NHHIP can be a transformative project to alleviate congestion, enhance safety, expand transit options, and address flood mitigation and disaster evacuation needs. While the project is on hold, improvements are challenging to make within the existing Record of Decision and Final Environmental Impact Statement. Updated Major Thoroughfare Plan (Woodtrace Boulevard to FM 2978) Transpiration project is underway for Precinct 2 Commissioner Charlie Riley to connect Woodtrace Boulevard to FM 2978 that will be solely funded by the West Magnolia Parkway Improvement District. This thoroughfare will not connect to FM 2978 at Woodlands Parkway, the intersection was developed from Texas 249 to the intersection Mansions Way. I-45N PEL Study-TXDOT The PEL process represents an approach to transportation decision-making that considers environmental, community and economic goals early in the planning stage and carries them through project development, design, and construction.
WATER SJRA TRA- Long Term Water Supply Planning • Heather Ramsey-Cook presented a sponsor resolution to the BAC team September’s meeting and will be represent to the board of directors on October 29th for approval. The goal of the resolution approval is to support developing and securing future water supply in partnership with various entities as well as a significant, long-term investment of time and money by current and future water customers.
