Profile of Success
Currently, there are 99 wish kids from The Woodlands and surrounding communities on a wish journey. One kid who recently had her wish granted is Kylie Good, a Concordia High School senior whose wish experience included a shopping trip to Macy’s, a photoshoot with the Page Parkes modeling agency, and a six-page spread in Monette Smith’s ReviewIt magazine! At an exclusive event hosted by Truluck’s, Kylie’s issue of ReviewIt was revealed—with Kylie on the cover! “The Make-A-Wish experience has meant more than words can explain,” Kylie said. “Not only did it bring joy in a time of trouble, it changed the way I felt within myself, bringing me more confidence in daily life.” World Wish Month is an especially reflective time for Make-AWish, and we invite you to join us in making “30 Days of Magic” happen for these local kids. There is almost no limit to the way that you can make a tangible, lasting impact in a wish kid’s life. Volunteers are key to the wish journey, from the initial meeting with the family to planning and granting the wish. Volunteers are also needed to offer in-kind services for wishes, work at local Make-A-Wish events, or fundraise for the organization. Since Make-A-Wish does not receive funding from any government source, we rely on individual and corporate donors to grant wishes; every dollar raised helps grant wishes in the region— your contribution stays in your community!
Make-A-Wish Texas Gulf Coast and Louisiana is excited to celebrate World Wish Month this April, as we highlight the hundreds of local kids battling critical illnesses that the organization serves each year. Make-A-Wish creates lifechanging wishes for these children because a wish is an integral part of their treatment journey. Despite the misconception that the organization only provides a “last wish” for terminally ill children, the overwhelming majority of wish kids live into adulthood, often beating their illness completely. orest Park The Woodlands Cemetery and Funeral Home – Dignity Memorial hosted the Chamber’s February Business After Hours. The event provided members with the opportunity to learn more about the services provided to help families deal with one of the most difficult and emotional transitions in life.

The event will be sending participants on a Scavenger Hunt through Conroe learning more about the services Angel Reach provides at each pit stop. The event will end at B52 Brewery where prizes will be awarded. Angel Reach works with adolescents that have aged out of foster care and get on the road to independence. Getting the Job through Career Connections “What are your strengths? What are your weaknesses? Where do you see yourself in five years?” This spring, community volunteers will help teach area students how to answer common interview questions through EfTA’s Career Connections program. Monthly sessions at Caney Creek and Grand Oaks High Schools continue to offer career panels where students gain exposure to a variety of fields. They learn from the real-life successes and mistakes of professionals. Upcoming sessions will give students the chance to practice what they have learned during mock interviews. “Mock interviews give students the opportunity to learn by doing. They learn that even if they are uncomfortable, preparation goes a long way when it’s time to highlight their skills to a potential employer,” according to EfTA President Monica Bomkamp Enia. LMC Class of 2022 Education Session The LMC Class of 2022 recently had their Education Session. The session, sponsored by Better Bookkeepers, Brighton Academy and McKesson, gave class members a look into the various aspects of education in our community. The session was hosted by Conroe ISD at both Clark Intermediate (named after LMC gradate Katherine Clark ’07) and Grand Oaks High School. LMC Board Member Sarah Blakelock ’16 served as the Session Director. The class heard from six school district superintendents, as well as representatives in higher education, private schools, and the partnership Conroe ISD has with juvenile detention. The class toured both Clark Intermediate and Grand Oaks High School. They also learned more about mental health services, school safety, public school funding, school communications, and K-18 school options.
Leadership Montgomery County (LMC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, dedicated to developing and enhancing current and future leaders of Montgomery County. The mission of LMC is to prepare emerging and existing leaders to understand local issues, grow their leadership skills and connect with others to better serve Montgomery County. The Conroe/Lake Conroe Chamber of Commerce, The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Magnolia Parkway Chamber of Commerce, the Greater East Montgomery County Chamber, the Montgomery County Hispanic Chamber, and the Montgomery Area Chamber are all partner chambers in the LMC program.
