A MESSAGE FROM AARON COX

Small businesses are the heartbeat of any thriving community—and here in The Woodlands area, they are essential to who we are and where we are going.

Every day, small business owners take risks, invest their resources, and pour their passion into building something meaningful. In doing so, they don’t just create companies—they create jobs, fuel economic growth and open doors of opportunity for countless individuals and families. From the first hire to the hundredth customer, their impact ripples far beyond small buildings and storefronts.

Small businesses are also engines of innovation. Their agility and creativity allow them to respond quickly to changing needs, introduce new ideas and challenge the status quo. Whether it is a local startup bringing fresh solutions to market or a family-owned business evolving across generations, these enterprises continually push our community forward.

Perhaps, most importantly, small businesses define the character and identity of our region. They are the places where neighbors gather, where relationships are built and where the unique spirit of our community comes to life. They give our community its distinct personality. A personality rooted in vision, resilience, entrepreneurship and a shared commitment to excellence.

At The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce, we are proud to champion these businesses and the vital role they play. Their investment in our community is more than financial—it is deeply personal. And it is this commitment that ensures our region remains a place of opportunity, innovation, and enduring success.

As we celebrate small businesses, we also recognize that their success is our collective success. By supporting them, we strengthen the very foundation of our community—today and for generations to come.

CREW Lunch & Learn Recap: | Working Genius Workshop

CREW

(Connecting Rising Executives of The Woodlands), a program designed for young professionals ages 21–39, continues to build momentum through meaningful opportunities for connection, growth, and leadership development. With plans to host one event per month, including professional development workshops, socials, service projects, leadership coffees, and team-building activities, CREW is creating intentional spaces for the next generation of leaders to engage and grow.

In March, CREW members gathered for an engaging and interactive Lunch & Learn focused on the Working Genius framework. The session was facilitated by Christin Cherry, Owner of entreProcess and CREW Co-Team Lead, who guided attendees through a deeper understanding of how individuals can better identify and leverage their natural strengths in the workplace.

The workshop introduced participants to the six types of working genius and provided practical insight into how these strengths show up in day-to-day work, collaboration, and leadership. Through thoughtful

discussion and real-world examples, attendees explored how recognizing their own working styles—as well as those of their colleagues—can lead to more effective communication, increased productivity, and stronger team dynamics.

The session was well attended, with a full room of rising professionals eager to invest in their personal and professional growth. Christin’s expertise and engaging facilitation created an environment that encouraged reflection, participation, and meaningful takeaways.

Thank you to Christin Cherry for leading such a valuable session, and to our CREW ambassadors for their continued support in making these events possible. Special thanks to Evan Berlin for sponsoring the event on behalf of the CREW ambassadors.

PROFILE OF SUCCESS

The Revitalization of Grogan’s Mill Village Center

Collaboration, innovation, and community impact came together in a powerful way through our recent project, the revitalization of Grogan’s Mill Village Center with our respected client and partner, Howard Hughes. This award recognizes not just the successful completion of a project, but the strength of a partnership built on trust, shared vision, and a commitment to excellence.

From the beginning, our teams aligned around a common goal: to deliver a solution that was not only functional, but meaningful. One that would create lasting value for The Woodlands community. Through close coordination, transparent communication, and a solutionsdriven mindset, we were able to transform ideas into action and challenges into opportunities.

What sets this project apart is the level of integration and teamwork demonstrated at every stage. By combining our expertise with

Howard Hughes’s insight and leadership, we developed an approach that was both strategic and highly adaptable. This allowed us to stay responsive throughout the process, ensuring that every decision supported Grogan’s Mill Village Center long-term success.

The result is a project that reflects purpose. It stands as a testament to what can be achieved when working together with intention and integrity. Beyond the immediate deliverables, this collaboration has helped strengthen relationships, elevate standards, and create a model for future partnerships.

We are especially proud that our work contributes to the continued growth and vitality of The Woodlands community. Projects like this play an important role in shaping the future, supporting local development, fostering innovation, and enhancing the overall quality of life for those who live, work, and play here.

Receiving this recognition is an honor, and it reinforces our belief that great outcomes are driven by great partnerships. We are grateful to Howard Hughes for their trust and collaboration, and to our team members whose dedication and expertise made this achievement possible. Together, we look forward to building on this success and continuing to deliver impactful work that serves our clients and our community.

There is a unique energy that takes over when business leaders step away from their desks and into the community. This March, The Woodlands Area Chamber’s C.A.R.E.S. Committee felt that spark firsthand as we dedicated our time to two incredible organizations that form the backbone of Montgomery County.

We kicked things off on the field, volunteering with the Kiwanis Club of The Woodlands during the Special Olympics. The Kiwanis Club is a global service organization dedicated to improving the world, one child and one community at a time. Seeing the pure joy and determination of these athletes reminded us all that “community” isn’t just a location, it’s how we show up for one another.

Back at the Chamber, our mission shifted toward essential needs. We held a donation drive for Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County, an organization that empowers families through affordable housing and strength-based stability. Thanks to your generosity, we collected a massive supply of water and Gatorade to keep their construction crews and volunteers hydrated as they build homes and hope in our neighborhood.

Serving these nonprofits isn’t just an item on our “to-do” list; it is the heartbeat of why we do business here. Want to be part of the impact?

We invite all Chamber members to join the C.A.R.E.S. Committee for our next service project. We meet the first Wednesday of every month at 3:00 PM at The Chamber office, all members are welcome and we will save a seat at the table for you.

Let’s keep serving, The Woodlands!

Congratulations to Bill Warner Named | Diplomat of the Month

Bill Warner has been named The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce Diplomat of the Month for March 2026, marking his second recognition this year for continued, high-impact volunteer service.

Following his January award, Bill maintained his role as a key mentor to our members, demonstrating his unwavering dedication to the Chamber’s mission while educating members about all the Chamber has to offer and helping members utilize the resources available.

Be sure to thank Bill Warner when you see him at the next Chamber event or committee meeting.

Congratulations,Bill!

Rolling Toward Success | A Salute to Team Jelly Roll

Itis time to give a massive shout-out to Team Jelly Roll for being named our March Diplomat Team of the Month! This powerhouse trio has been on a literal roll lately, and the Chamber is seeing the impact of their hard work across the board.

Led by the indefatigable Ashley Reina of Blue Skies Bookkeeping and supported by the dedicated David Dewhurst of Prosperity Living, Angela Schimmels of Image 360 Signs & Graphics and Kristina Red of Capital One Café, this team has redefined what it means to be community ambassadors.

What makes Team Jelly Roll stand out is their holistic approach to our membership. They haven’t just been busy welcoming new faces; they’ve been working tirelessly behind the scenes to reach out to our long-standing partners. Whether it’s helping a fresh startup navigate their first few months or ensuring a renewing member fully understands the evolving benefits available to them, Ashley, David, and Kristina are always there to bridge the gap.

Their mission is simple but vital: ensuring every member knows how to tap into the Chamber’s vast resources to fuel their own success. From explaining membership benefits to facilitating the right connections, they are the “secret sauce” that helps our members thrive.

Team Jelly Roll, thank you for your energy, your outreach, and your unwavering dedication to the growth of this Chamber. We are incredibly lucky to have you on the front lines!

Next time you see Ashley, David, or Kristina at a Business Connection event, be sure to give them a high-five and a big thank you for all they do.

WIN | Brings The Woodlands into Houston’s Innovation Week with H-Town Roundup Event

The Woodlands Innovation Network (WIN), in partnership with Houston Exponential, recently hosted its H-Town Roundup event as part of a week-long series of innovation and technology events taking place across Greater Houston. Thank you to Fidium for sponsoring the event and supporting innovation in our region.

Hosted at the Kevin Brady Community Center, the evening featured a strong lineup of programming designed to showcase emerging ideas and real-world applications of innovation. The Innovation Spotlights included presentations from Mars Materials, Alpha Schools, and ANDE Rapid DNA, each offering a glimpse into how their work is addressing challenges and creating new opportunities across industries.

The program also featured a presentation from Houston Methodist, where Chief Nursing Officer Nathan Way shared insights on innovation in healthcare and how new approaches and technologies are enhancing patient care and operational effectiveness.

A highlight of the evening was the Energy Venture Panel, which brought together leaders from across the energy innovation and investment landscape, including Halliburton Labs, Baker Hughes, Greenbacker Investment Capital, and Venture Builder. Panelists discussed how capital, corporate partnerships, and venture platforms are accelerating innovation in the energy sector, while also offering perspective on where opportunities exist for startups and emerging technologies.

The event concluded with a networking mixer, giving attendees the opportunity to connect directly with speakers and fellow innovators, exchange ideas, and explore potential collaborations.

H-Town Roundup reflects WIN’s ongoing commitment to strengthening connectivity and building a more collaborative innovation ecosystem in The Woodlands area. By aligning with regional partners and bringing together diverse voices, WIN continues to create opportunities that support innovationdriven growth both locally and across Greater Houston.

Mastering the Art of Local Marketing Tools and Tactics for Small Business

In a world of endless digital noise, small businesses have a unique advantage— proximity. Local marketing isn’t just a strategy; it’s a relationship-building tool that connects your brand to the people right outside your door. For small businesses, mastering local marketing means standing out, driving foot traffic and building loyalty within your own community.

That is especially true in a close-knit community like The Woodlands, where supporting local businesses is a shared priority. Residents here embrace a “local first” mindset, creating a strong foundation for small business success. Here are a few ways you can tap into that community spirit.

“You don’t need a massive budget to make a big local impact. Show up, engage authentically, and let your community become your biggest advocate.”

Start with Your Digital Front Door

A strong online presence is the foundation of effective local marketing. Begin by claiming and optimizing your Google Business Profile. This free listing helps your business appear in local search results and Google Maps. Make sure your hours, location, phone number and website are accurate. Add high-quality photos, respond to reviews and update your posts regularly to keep your listing fresh.

Next, audit your website and social media profiles. Are they mobile-friendly? Do they clearly communicate what you offer and where you’re located? Include keywords like “The Woodlands,” “local,” or “near me” — and consider optimizing for voice search, since more customers are now asking their phones and smart speakers to find businesses nearby.

Short-form video content on platforms like Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn is also increasingly effective for reaching audiences — a quick behind-the-scenes clip or a “meet the team” reel can do more than a static post.

Show Up For the Community Visibility builds trust. Participating in community organizations, community events and the Chamber can put your brand in front of new audiences. Set up a booth at events, take a leadership role or volunteer for organizations.

Sponsorships are also valuable marketing tools. Whether you support a local school, nonprofit or the Chamber, these partnerships demonstrate your commitment to the community.

Leverage Local Partnerships

Collaboration can amplify your reach without increasing your budget. Consider crosspromotions with complementary businesses – like a salon partnering with a boutique, or a bakery teaming up with a coffee shop. You can co-host events, bundle products or feature one another in newsletters and social posts.

Also, tap into referral marketing. Offering incentives for customers or other businesses to refer you is a cost-effective way to grow your customer base while fostering goodwill.

Tailor Your Message for Local Audiences

Local marketing works best when it feels personal. Highlight your ties to the community in your messaging – whether it's sourcing products locally, giving back through volunteer work or sharing customer success stories. Don’t be afraid to show the faces behind the business. People love doing business with people they know.

Use hyperlocal content on your social media – tag local landmarks, spotlight other local businesses, celebrate community wins or share fun facts about your neighborhood. Content that resonates with your community is more likely to be shared, extending your reach organically.

Consider using AI-powered tools to help schedule posts, draft captions, or identify trending local topics. They can save time while keeping content consistent and fresh.

Track What’s Working

Local marketing is most effective when you know which efforts are paying off. Use free tools like Google Analytics and your Google Business Profile Insights to see how customers find you. Track which social posts get the most engagement. Ask new customers how they heard about you. Small, consistent improvements based on real data will outperform guesswork over timesuccess stories. LOCAL MARKETING CHECKLIST

Quick ways to boost your visibility immediately

Claim & optimize your Google Business Profile

Partner with a nearby business for a giveaway or event

Join or sponsor a community event

Ask loyal customers for reviews & referrals

Highlight your local roots in your branding

Use geotags and local hashtags online Refresh your storefront with signage or displays

Use Smart, Low-Cost Digital Advertising

Targeted local ads on Google and social platforms let you reach customers within a specific radius of your business — often for just a few dollars a day. Geo-targeted campaigns can promote time-sensitive offers, events or seasonal services with precision. Even a modest monthly ad budget can meaningfully increase foot traffic when ads are well-targeted and paired with a strong offer.

As a long-standing Member-Partner, Shenandoah doesn’t just support the Chamber, it treats the business community like family.

They say good things come in small packages, and Shenandoah is the perfect example. Breakfast Connections | Had Members Green with Envy

Members and guests packed Mia’s Table for the March Breakfast Connections. The theme What do you offer your customers that makes your competition “green” with envy, had members eager to share what they do to keep loyal customers satisfied. Our spotlight sponsor was Project Beacon Texas.

Project Beacon addresses a critical and growing gap in services for adults with autism and other neurodiverse needs in Montgomery County and the surrounding region. At the center of this work is the Pathways Program, more than a day program, it is the operational backbone that enables all other services to function effectively. As the primary point of entry and daily engagement, Pathways provides the structure, consistency, and individualized support necessary to drive measurable outcomes for the individuals they serve.

Sustained in Pathways is essential to organizational stability and long-term scalability. A strong foundation allows Project Beacon to maintain high-quality, evidence-based programming while

positioning the organization for strategic growth. Future initiatives, including residential development, depend on the reliability and continuity that Pathways delivers every day.

The market need is both significant and urgent. In Montgomery County alone, more than 53,000 adults are diagnosed with autism, with 19% living with a caregiver over the age of 60. This demographic shift presents increasing demand for sustainable, communitybased solutions. Without appropriate services, many individuals face social isolation, regression, and reliance on costly institutional care, placing additional strain on families and public resources.

Project Beacon is uniquely positioned to meet this need. It is the only adult program in the area staffed entirely by certified professionals, including Board Certified Behavior Analysts and Registered Behavioral Technicians, ensuring a high standard of care and accountability. Its Beacon Access Center operates a specialized developmental model designed to support long-

term independence, skill-building, and community integration.

Looking ahead, Project Beacon is advancing plans for a residential community that expands housing and supports options for autistic adults at varying levels of independence. Designed as a scalable, long-term solution, this model provides continuity of care while addressing a broad and growing market need.

For the business community, supporting Project Beacon is an investment in workforce inclusion, community infrastructure, and longterm economic sustainability. They invite you to tour the Beacon Access Center and see firsthand how strategic investment is driving meaningful outcomes. To learn more, visit ProjectBeaconTX.org.

The Chamber’s Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon was a meaningful celebration of the nonprofit organizations, leaders and volunteers who make such an extraordinary difference in The Woodlands area. With this year’s “Mahalo for All You Do” theme, the event brought the community together to recognize the heart of service that strengthens our region every day. The luncheon was a joyful and sincere expression of gratitude for the organizations whose compassion, commitment and impact help make The Woodlands area such a special place to live, work and serve.

Keynote speaker Damon West delivered a powerful narrative that left a lasting impression. His message to be the coffee bean in boiling water — positively changing people and environments in the middle of difficult circumstance — was especially fitting in a room filled with nonprofit leaders and volunteers whose daily work transforms lives. The luncheon served as both a well-deserved recognition of service and an encouraging reminder of the profound impact one person or organization can have on a community.
