this April’s Breakfast Connections, held at Mia’s Table, The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce proved that the best way to move forward is often to look back. With approximately 90 professionals in attendance, the morning was more than a networking session; it was a masterclass in humility and growth.

This month’s theme “What foolish things did you do early in your career that you learned from?” turned standard elevator pitches into genuine moments of connection. Members shared “rookie mistakes,” transforming personal blunders into valuable cautionary tales. This transparency built the authentic rapport that serves as the hallmark of our business community, reminding us that every expert was once a beginner. Lisa Thomas of Crestcom highlighted a common leadership trap: the belief that being a great leader means having all the answers. he Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce recently held its April Business After Hours event, and the atmosphere could not have been more fitting for a gathering centered on growth and relationship building. Hosted by Waste Connections, Inc. at the Black Walnut Cafe, the evening was graced with perfect spring weather that allowed guests to spill out onto the patio, making full use of the restaurant’s beautiful outdoor space.

CREW | Leadership Coffee Recap

REW(Connecting Rising Executives of The Woodlands), hosted a Leadership Coffee featuring Ann Wolford, President of The Wolford Group, and Keaton McDaniel, Financial Advisor at Edward Jones MDM Wealth, both past chairmen of The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce. The event, moderated by Josie Lewis, Director of Sales for Visit The Woodlands, brought together young professionals from across The Woodlands area for an honest discussion on leadership, mentorship, confidence, and professional growth. Throughout the conversation, attendees heard practical advice on stepping into leadership opportunities, building meaningful relationships, and embracing growth even before feeling fully prepared. Speakers emphasized the importance of mentorship, learning how to delegate, managing conflict with trust and authenticity, and understanding that effective leaders do not always have all the answers. One of the strongest themes of the morning was that vulnerability and humility can make leaders more approachable, relatable, and impactful. WIN | May Recap

he Woodlands Innovation Network (WIN), recently led a delegation of 18 business and community leaders to visit Tesla for a special behind-the-scenes tour of the company’s Gigafactory in Austin, Texas. The group had the opportunity to experience first-hand the scale, technology, automation, advanced manufacturing and robotics driving one of the world’s most innovative companies.

Spanning more than 2,500 acres with over 10 million square feet of manufacturing space, the facility serves as the primary production hub for the Cybertruck and Model Y. Attendees also learned about Tesla’s future plans surrounding the mass production of the Optimus humanoid robot, with long-term goals to produce millions annually. A special thank you to Jason Walker and the Tesla team for coordinating such a memorable experience for the group. Visits like this continue to strengthen connections between innovators, business leaders and emerging technologies while helping build momentum for the growing innovation ecosystem in The Woodlands area and across Greater Houston.

The Houston Advanced Research Center recently welcomed The Woodlands Innovation Network (WIN) for an engaging presentation and behind-the-scenes tour led by Carlos Gamarra and Ryan Bare. The visit gave attendees an inside look at HARC’s groundbreaking work in sustainability, resilience, energy, water, and air quality, while also showcasing how innovation can be integrated directly into the built environment. A major focus of the visit centered on the innovative design and performance of HARC’s award-winning headquarters — a LEED Platinum and Net Zero Energy certified facility designed to serve as a real-world “Living Lab” for sustainable development. WIN attendees learned about the building’s advanced geothermal heating and cooling system, rooftop solar array, high-performance building envelope, and natural stormwater management systems that support both efficiency and environmental stewardship. HARC’s headquarters is recognized as one of the most energy-efficient office buildings in the country and the first commercial building in Texas to achieve Net Zero Energy certification. Conversations and experiences like these continue to spark ideas, strengthen connections, and build momentum for the growing innovation ecosystem in The Woodlands area and across Greater Houston. WIN has also been invited to visit SpaceX and will begin coordinating a future delegation trip as the organization continues creating opportunities for local leaders to engage with some of the world’s most innovative companies.

first glance, the green ribbons worn by TWACC Diplomat Team may simply identify the friendly faces greeting guests at ribbon cuttings, networking events and luncheons. But being a Diplomat is about far more than attending events — it is about serving as a connector, ambassador and advocate for the Chamber community. Diplomats play an important role in helping members feel welcomed, engaged and connected. From introducing first-time attendees to fellow members, to helping businesses navigate the Chamber calendar and opportunities available through membership, Diplomats work behind the scenes to ensure relationships continue to grow long after an event ends. We serve as the bridge between new members and established business leaders, helping create meaningful introductions that can lead to partnerships, referrals and collaborations. For many of us, those connections become deeply personal as well. Some of my closest friendships have come through serving on the Diplomat Team and volunteering alongside fellow Chamber members over the years.

The role also requires a genuine commitment to supporting the mission of the Chamber and the economic vitality of our community. Diplomats champion local businesses, encourage involvement and help recruit new organizations into the Chamber family.
