ADVANCING INNOVATION in The Woodlands Area
Innovation in The Woodlands Area continues to gain momentum, driven by collaboration, leadership and a growing commitment to building meaningful connections across the region and beyond. At the center of that effort is The Woodlands Innovation Network (WIN), an initiative of The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with Houston Exponential. WIN is focused on strengthening connectivity and building a more robust innovation ecosystem in The Woodlands area.
WIN brings together entrepreneurs, corporate innovators, investors, business leaders and educators who are shaping the future of innovation. Through strategic programming and partnerships, the network is creating new opportunities for engagement while elevating the role of The Woodlands area in a rapidly evolving economy.
Since its launch, WIN has hosted a variety of programs that reflect the many dimensions of innovation. Events have included:
• Expert-led pitch workshops that help founders refine their messaging and prepare for investor opportunities.
• Speaker sessions featuring leaders of key innovation organizations, incubators, hackathons and investment networks such as the Houston Angel Network - offering valuable insight into how ideas move from concept to commercialization.
• Hosting panels and connection opportunities in The Woodlands as part of H-Town Roundup week, a celebration of the region’s innovation community featuring panels, workshops and founder-focused programming
WIN has also prioritized connection. Social events, like happy hours and receptions, have brought together professionals in the innovation sector from across industries in a more informal settingcreating space for relationship-building that often leads to future collaboration.
WIN’s programming continues to expand in both scope and impact like working with Tesla to coordinate a visit to its Gigafactory, offering local leaders a firsthand look at innovation at scale and advanced manufacturing in action.
In addition to local and regional engagement, WIN is playing a role on a broader stage. The Chamber has partnered with the Energy Drone and Robotics Coalition, which will host a global summit in The Woodlands this summer, bringing international attention and industry leaders to the region. Chamber President and CEO Aaron Cox has spoken at the conference and WIN secures an exclusive discounted ticket price for Chamber members to expand access for the local innovation and business communities.
Further strengthening this global connection, Chamber President and CEO Aaron Cox was invited to speak on behalf of WIN to the European Innovation Council at the Ion innovation hub, highlighting The Woodlands Area’s growing presence within the international innovation conversation.
These efforts reflect a larger opportunity. With a strong business community, access to talent and close proximity to Houston’s innovation infrastructure, The Woodlands is uniquely positioned to foster a thriving, connected innovation ecosystem of its own—one that supports entrepreneurs, attracts investment and creates long-term economic impact.
WIN is helping turn that vision into reality by building the relationships, awareness and opportunities that allow innovation to take root locally and scale outward.
The Woodlands Innovation Network isn’t just participating in innovation, it’s building a connected ecosystem designed to lead, grow and shape what comes next.

PROFILE OF SUCCESS
A School Where Students Are Truly Known
Personalized learning is transforming how many families think about education. At Fusion Academy The Woodlands, students in 5th grade through high school experience a fully accredited private school built around one simple idea. When students are truly known and supported, they can thrive.
Families across The Woodlands area are increasingly seeking educational environments that recognize each student’s individual strengths, challenges, and goals.
Fusion Academy’s signature one-to-one learning model pairs each student with a dedicated teacher for every class. This individualized approach allows teachers to tailor instruction to each student’s learning style, pace, and goals. For many students, this environment becomes a turning point in their academic journey. Students who may have struggled in traditional classrooms often rediscover confidence, engagement, and a renewed sense of possibility.
This one-to-one approach allows teachers to truly understand how each student learns best and create an environment where students feel both challenged and supported.
At Fusion Academy The Woodlands, education goes beyond academics. The campus culture is intentionally designed to support the whole student.
Teachers build strong relationships with students, helping them develop not only academic skills but also resilience, independence, and confidence. When students feel understood and supported, they are more willing to take risks, ask questions, and grow.
Fusion Academy offers a variety of pathways for families, including full-time enrollment, for-credit classes, tutoring, mentoring, and post-secondary planning support. In addition to its in-person campus experience, Fusion Academy also offers virtual learning as well as hybrid options that combine both in-person and virtual instruction. This flexibility allows families to create an educational plan that truly fits their student’s needs, schedule, and learning style.
Collaboration is also a key part of the school’s approach. Fusion Academy works closely with therapists, counselors, educational consultants, and other professionals throughout The Woodlands community to ensure students receive thoughtful and coordinated support. These relationships help families navigate academic challenges while ensuring students have access to the resources they need to succeed. These partnerships allow Fusion Academy to serve as both an educational resource and a trusted support partner for families throughout The Woodlands area.
At the Woodlands campus, Director of Admissions Dusty Paez works closely with families and community professionals to help students find the educational path that best supports their goals. Through strong relationships with educators, mental health professionals, and community partners, she helps connect families with solutions that allow students to regain confidence and rediscover a love of learning.

Breakfast Connections | Defined the Love of Customer Care
For members of The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce, the February Breakfast Connections served as a poignant reminder that business excellence isn’t just about the “what,” but the “why.” Gathering under the theme, “What do you love about taking care of your customers,” local professionals shared stories of impact that transcend standard transactions.
Leading this conversation was spotlight sponsor Angela Schimmels of Keller Williams Realty The Woodlands & Magnolia.
Angela brings a refreshing blend of heart and hustle. As a seasoned business owner, she understands the gravity of a real estate investment. She doesn’t just place a sign in the yard; she deploys high-level marketing strategy and sharp negotiation skills to ensure her clients win. However, her true “secret sauce” is her deep-rooted community-first philosophy.
Having lived and worked in The Woodlands and Magnolia for years, Angela’s local intuition is unmatched. She views her clients as neighbors, and that care extends to every member of the household, including the four-legged ones. A passionate advocate for the idea that “every dog deserves a backyard,” Angela prioritizes finding homes where pets and people alike can thrive.

Business After Hours |
Bridging the Gap: Law Enforcement and Local Business Connect
InFebruary, Constable Ryan Gable and the Montgomery County Precinct 3 Constable’s Office hosted The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce for its monthly Business After Hours. This gathering served as more than just a networking social; it was a powerful demonstration of the “community-based policing” philosophy that has defined Constable Gable’s tenure since 2012.
By opening his office doors to local professionals, Constable Gable reinforced the vital link between public safety and economic prosperity. During the event, Constable Gable and his staff engaged directly with leaders to share local crime statistics and discuss resources that help maintain a secure environment for business growth.
This proactive approach to communication helps dispel misconceptions and fosters the trust necessary for a thriving community. When law enforcement and business leaders meet “after hours” to share ideas and concerns, it ensures that The Woodlands remains a premier destination for families and companies alike.
The February event was a testament to the collaborative spirit of South Montgomery County. As Constable Gable noted, having an open-door policy is essential to protecting the community he is honored to serve.

Chamber Members Help Shape the Future Workforce
This summer, Education for Tomorrow Alliance (EfTA) is partnering with businesses across the Houston area to prepare the next generation of talent through its Student Internship Program (SIP). The program places rising 12th-grade students in two-week, full-time internships during June or July, giving them a realworld glimpse into careers ranging from engineering to theater production.
EfTA expects to connect more than 200 students with meaningful, handson experiences in fields that align with their interests. For many students, these internships provide a critical first look at the professional world, helping them build transferrable skills like communication, problem-solving, and workplace readiness.
For employers, hosting an intern is more than a short-term commitment. It is an opportunity to invest in the future workforce. By opening their doors, businesses can introduce students to their industry, mentor emerging talent, and play a direct role in shaping tomorrow’s professionals.
EfTA is currently seeking companies willing to host one or more students for Summer 2026. Opportunities are available across a wide range of industries, including business, engineering, healthcare, and nonprofit, with a particular need for STEM-focused placements. Internship can take place during any two-week period during the summer and employers can add additional requirements, if needed. To learn more or to become a host, visit the Student Internship Program mentor page at efta-us.org.
Education for Tomorrow Alliance is a nonprofit organization focused on cultivating education and community partnerships that advance student success. With innovative programs centered on career development, leadership, and STEM preparation, EfTA serves as a connection for business leaders to access and strengthen education.

Leveraging Small Business Month
The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce was pleased to host Jan-National Small Business Month in May is a time to celebrate the vital role small businesses play in our economy and in the strength of our community. It is also an opportunity for small businesses to leverage Small Business Month to create momentum for future growth and remind the community that local businesses are essential to a strong local economy and a vibrant quality of life.
Now is the time to plan your strategy, starting with identifying what you want to accomplish. Do you want to raise brand visibility, boost online engagement, strengthen customer relationships or introduce a new product or service? A clear objective will make it easier to shape promotions, content and outreach that feel intentional rather than last-minute.
Within Small Business Month, Small Business Week (May 3 through May 9) and Small Business Day (May 10) are strong hooks for content and promotions. They can focus your content creation messaging and make promotions more manageable.
That could include a limited-time Small Business Week or Small Business Day bundle, bounce-back offer for a future purchase, gift-
with-purchase or a referral incentive. Servicebased businesses can offer a complimentary consultation, audit or add-on.
Businesses can also use Small Business Week to run a daily themed campaign such as team spotlights, founder stories or customer appreciation features. This kind of daily structure helps create consistent messaging while giving audiences a fresh reason to pay attention throughout the week.
On Small Business Day, share your story, thank customers for supporting local and invite followers to take a simple action such as making a purchase, leaving a review, sharing a post or tagging a favorite small business.
Businesses might even turn Small Business Day into a customer appreciation event by inviting guests to stop by for an open house, free coffee or a small gift. It is a simple but effective way to say thank you while creating an opportunity to connect and share your story.” This kind of engagement builds goodwill and visibility that that can benefit a business long after May ends.
Small Business Month is also a great time to strengthen connections in the community. Participate in a Chamber event, partner with a nonprofit or join forces with neighboring businesses for a shared promotion. These efforts help position a business as engaged, visible and invested in the success of the broader community.
The businesses that gain the most from Small Business Month are the ones that treat it as a strategic opportunity. With thoughtful planning, consistent storytelling and a community-minded approach, May can become much more than a celebration. It can become a launch point for stronger brand awareness, deeper customer loyalty and new opportunities for growth.
