Happy New Year to our Chamber Members and our team! Those of you who are familiar with The Chamber know that our new fiscal year starts on September 1st. This year will be filled with new opportunities as we continue to provide ways to ensure your Pathway to Opportunities. We would like to welcome our new Chairman of The Board Ms. Julie Ambler, Head of School at The Woodlands Christian Academy and Vice Chair Mr. Jim Carman, President of The Houston Region Howard Hughes Corporation. We are also welcoming seven new members to our board and are bidding adieu and saying thank you to our 2020 – 2021 Chairman of The Board Ms. Linda Nelson and to seven board members whose terms have come to an end after three years of service to The Chamber. We will be starting our new year with a focus on advocacy. On September 15th, we will be hosting our second 4 O’clock Speaker Series on Incorporation Education. It is our goal to educate our members and the community on the topic of Incorporation prior to early voting which starts in October and election day on November 2nd. This month, we will also be providing FAQ’s regarding the effects of being Incorporated on The Woodlands, as well as hosting a series of Between The Trees episodes to ensure ample education and knowledge is provided. This September, we will also be hosting our Annual Meeting and Awards Luncheon, being held on September 17th. This luncheon will recognize members that will be celebrating 20– 40-year anniversaries, Board Members, Team Leaders, Diplomat of the Year, Community Citizen of the Year, Chamber Volunteer 2

of the Year, Top Influencer Under 40, Chairman’s Award and a special Legacy Award Recipient. This fall, we will be teeing up our events with our Annual Putt, Pass & Chip Golf Tournament scheduled to be held on November 1st, 2021. In addition, our teams are also hard at work planning our 2022 events such as Taste of The Town and the Economic Outlook Conference. New to the Chamber’s activities this year is The Woodlands Area Business Summit. The Business Summit will provide access to leading edge corporate resources which enables competitive and productive functioning, while maintaining a healthy business culture for all employees. In addition to hearing from keynote speakers, registrants are offered various topical tracks over the span of four breakout sessions. Attendance is available both virtually and in-person. I encourage you to partner with The Chamber as we walk with you along the pathway to success for your business. There are many different volunteering opportunities at The Chamber on committees including advocacy, connecting, education, events and more. We encourage you to take advantage of these resources. JULIE H. AMBLER 2021-22 CHAIRMAN Head of School, The Woodlands Christian Academy Julie H. Ambler has been the Head of School at The Woodlands Christian Academy since 2006. Under her direction, Woodlands Christian is becoming a national leader in Christ-centered college preparatory education serving students in grades Pre-K through 12th grade. Previously, she served on the school’s Executive Board for four years. Mrs. Ambler currently serves as Chairman of the Board for Summit Ministries, located in Manitou Springs, Colorado, Past Chairman of the Board and current board member for Leadership Montgomery County (LMC), Vice President of Legendary Leadership for the board of The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce, and Executive Committee Member for the Council of Educational Standards and Accountability (CESA). Additionally, she is a member and past board member of the Rotary Club of The Woodlands, where she has been named a Paul Harris Fellow. Mrs. Ambler is also past president of the Executive Women’s Alliance. She received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from Leadership Montgomery County in 2012 and was named a Woman of Distinction by the Montgomery County Women’s Council of Organizations in 2014 & 2017. Interfaith of The Woodlands named The Woodlands Christian Academy the corporate Hometown Hero of The Woodlands for 2017. A graduate of The Hockaday School in Dallas, Mrs. Ambler holds a B.A. and an M.B.A. from The University of Texas at Austin. For seventeen years, she worked as a real estate investment banker in Houston, Texas, and Los Angeles, California, where she financed in excess of $1.2 billion of commercial real estate transactions nationwide. She is married to Price Ambler, a member of The Crossing Church, and is the mother of two adult children, Julia and J.P., both of whom are graduates of The Woodlands Christian Academy.

JIM CARMAN 2021-22 VICE CHAIRMAN President, Houston Region, The Howard Hughes Corporation Jim Carman is President of the Houston region at The Howard Hughes Corporation. He is responsible for leading the residential and commercial development, leasing, and operations of three award-winning master planned communities: The Woodlands, Bridgeland and The Woodlands Hills. Mr. Carman joined The Howard Hughes Corporation in 2012, and most recently served as Senior Vice President of MPC Commercial Development, overseeing vertical development on projects located within The Woodlands and Bridgeland. Mr. Carman was responsible for leading multiple teams in the 79-acre development of Hughes Landing, Houston’s premier mixed-use urban center on Lake Woodlands. Mr. Carman has over 20 years of construction and development experience on projects valued at over $2.5 billion. His work includes mixed-use and commercial projects such as The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman, The Hughes Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, and the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts in Miami, Florida. Mr. Carman received his Bachelor of Science as well as Master of Engineering in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University. Mr. Carman proudly serves within the community as a Board Member for Montgomery County Food Bank, The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce, The Woodlands Economic Development Partnership, Leadership Montgomery County, and Interfaith of The Woodlands.

BARRY D. BLANTON Owner and Founder, Blanton Advisors, LLC Barry D. Blanton is owner and founder of Blanton Advisors, LLC, a CFO consulting practice based in The Woodlands, Texas. He is an accomplished financial and operational executive with a successful 35-year career in the banking, housing, wholesale distribution, and consulting industries. Blanton is a 2010 recipient of The Woodlands Hometown Hero award and the 2017 recipient of The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year award. a passion of his since inception. Blanton serves as Chairman of the Board of Leadership Montgomery County and serves on the Board of Directors of the Montgomery Central Appraisal District and Voice of Wilderness. Previously he served on the BBVA Compass Bank Houston-Local Director Board. He is a past chairman of the Montgomery County United Way and past chairman of both the Conroe and South Montgomery County YMCAs. Blanton is the author of The Monday Morning Minute and founder of Live2Lead The Woodlands. He is a 1982 graduate of The University of Texas at Austin and a 1987 graduate of Leadership Conroe. Blanton and his wife, Fran, have resided in The Woodlands for more than 20 years.

ANGELA STORSETH-COOPER Associate Director of Government Relations & Public Policy, The US Oncology Network/McKesson Angela Storseth-Cooper is Associate Director of Government Relations & Public Policy for The US Oncology Network/ McKesson where she represents community oncology practices, like Texas Oncology, throughout the United States, managing local and multi-state legislative and regulatory advocacy, political engagement, and policy analysis. Prior to her position with The US Oncology Network/McKesson, Angela’s background includes working for the Texas House of Representatives for Representative Will Metcalf as his District Director and Policy Advisor, helped on the campaign for State Senator Brandon Creighton, and spent several years working for the business community at the Conroe/Lake Conroe Chamber of Commerce and The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce as a Director of Government Relations, Program Development and Events. As a volunteer for The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce, Angela serves on the Economic Outlook Conference Committee and was honored to be the Team Leader for the 2021 event, she serves on the Business Advocacy Council, and has been instrumental in helping plan Montgomery County Day at the Capitol for the Montgomery County Council of Chambers since 2013. She is excited and looking forward to serving on The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. Angela is extremely passionate about her community, with a strong focus on women leadership and serves on several Boards: Leadership Montgomery County, McKesson’s Outstanding Women Networking Inspiring and Taking Charge- OWNIT, and the Montgomery Independent School District Education Foundation Board of Trustees. In 2019, Angela was recognized as a Trailblazer for the Greater Houston Women’s Chamber of Commerce. Angela graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication in 2011. She and her husband, Grant, live in Montgomery, Texas where he is a teacher and football coach.

FRED DOMENICK III General Manager, The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel & Convention Center Fred Domenick, General Manager of The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel & Convention Center, has been with Marriott International for 39 years including seven years in Marriott’s Franchise Division. Fred was raised in a family restaurant and tavern business in suburban Philadelphia, before attending Johnson & Wales University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science and Associate of Science Degree in Hotel Management. Fred began his hotel career at Providence Marriott, as Banquet Houseman; moving up through Banquets, then as Assistant Lounge Manager for their Night Club. When Fred graduated from college, he was Beverage Manager. He worked in Somerset, New Jersey and also Galveston, Texas, where he worked at the Marriott Hotel, now known as the Galvez Hotel. He transferred to the St. Louis Pavilion Marriott and took a position of Director of Restaurants, then moved to the St. Louis Airport Marriott as Director of Food and Beverage. In 1996 Fred transferred to the South Bend Marriott Hotel, in Indiana, as a Director of Operations. In 1999 he became Director of Operations at Marriott’s Lincolnshire Resort in Chicago. In 2001 he returned to South Bend Marriott in Indiana, as General Manager. Fred joined The Woodlands team as General Manager on May 1, 2006. In 2002, Fred received the Marriott International Mustang Leadership Award, and in 2005, received the Central Region General Manager Leadership Excellence Award. In 2008 he received the General Manager of the Year Award from Marriott International. In 2013 Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel received 2013 Hotel of Americas Award. Fred serves as a Director on the Board of the Hotel & Lodging Association of Greater Houston and the State Texas Hotel & Lodging Association; and serves on the Board of The Woodlands Convention & Visitors Bureau. From 2012 to 2015, Fred was on the Marriott General Manager Advisory Council. Fred was a part time Fire Fighter and Lieutenant for nine years with fire departments in Indiana and Chicago. Fred is also a Rotarian who enjoys football, Boating and all other sports. Fred has been married to his wife Astrid for 33 years and has a 27 year old son, Fred IV and a 21 year old daughter, Stephanie. They reside in Conroe, Texas.

CAROLYN GRAY Owner, Zircon Consulting Carolyn Gray is a Personal Development Strategist and Accountability Coach and an HR Consultant with expertise in employee/labor relations and building personal and professional relationships. She is the owner of Zircon Consulting, a boutique consulting/training firm in Spring, TX. She is a Certified Professional Coach, Certified Personality Trainer, Etiquette Consultant, speaker, and author of 365 Days of Gratitude: there is always something to be grateful for and five other books. Carolyn helps her clients build selfconfidence and self-esteem, with integrity, to be bold, authentic, genuine, and memorable. She is a member of The Woodlands Chamber of Commerce; Team Leader, Diversity and Inclusion Council, The Woodlands Chamber of Commerce; VP HR, Women on a Mission to Earn Commission (WOAMTEC), The Woodlands; and Board member, Services Cooperative Association’s Womens Business Center, Houston, TX. Carolyn enjoys golfing, reading, traveling, and volunteering. She is married and has one son, a daughter and son-in-love and two grandsons.

TED HARRIS Senior General Manager, The Woodlands Mall Ted Harris has been in the mall real estate environment for over 20 years. He got his start in the industry working for The Collin Creek Mall in Plano, TX. From there, he moved to New Orleans to become the General Manager of The Oakwood Center. A little storm named Katrina prompted him to move north to Omaha, NE. While in Omaha, he was the General Manager of the Oak View Mall for over 11 years. Finally, after being provided with a great opportunity, he moved back to Texas to become the Senior General Manager of The Woodlands Mall. Ted is a graduate of The University of Texas. In addition to his bachelor’s degree, he holds an MBA from The University of Phoenix. During his tenure as a mall manager, Ted has also spent time on numerous boards and committees. While in Nebraska, he was the Chairman of the Nebraska Retail Federation. Since his time at The Woodlands Mall, Ted has been fortunate to become a board member of The Woodlands Chamber of Commerce along with being a board member of Visit the Woodlands and The Woodlands Arts Council. Ted is married to his lovely wife of 20 years, Wendy Harris, DVM. Wendy is a veterinarian at the Bear Branch Animal Hospital. He also has two daughters, Nicole and Kai. Nicole works in Chicago for a financial organization and Kai is a sophomore at The University of Nebraska – Omaha.

MIGUEL A. LOPEZ Partner, Seaplicity LLC Born in Monterrey, Mexico, Miguel came to the U.S. as a baby. Humble became his family’s home where he graduated from Humble High in 1986. Two weeks after graduating he was stepping onto the yellow footprints at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, California. Miguel served four years in the US Marines as a machine gunner. During his enlistment, he became a naturalized citizen of the United States—one of his proudest moments. Honorably discharged in 1990, Miguel returned home and enrolled at what is now known as Lone Star College. He then transferred to Sam Houston State University to pursue a degree in Criminal Justice and graduated with a B.A. in 1995. Currently Miguel is a partner with Seaplicity LLC, a business and life strategizing firm that helps clients calibrate health & wellness to foster professional productivity and success. Prior to joining the ranks of an entrepreneur, he served as the Executive Director for the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at Lone Star College. He credits his business acumen and customer service etiquette to 17 years of experience in the banking industry. It is with his banking experience, coupled with his responsibilities during his tenure with the Lone Star College-SBDC that has enabled him to work with hundreds of small businesses and orient them for success. Miguel has been a resident of The Woodlands since 1994 and one of the things he loves about the Woodlands and the surrounding area are the vast opportunities to get involved. In addition to his role as board member for The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce, Miguel currently serves as a board or committee member with Sam Houston State University Alumni Board and the Lake Conroe/Conroe Chamber. Earlier this year Miguel was named Humble High School Distinguished Alumni 2021 (Class of 86’). He has served in leadership roles with several organizations in the area; The Woodlands Lions Club, South County YMCA Board, Montgomery County Hispanic Chamber, Montgomery County March of Dimes, Interfaith of The Woodlands Community Clinic Board, The Lake Conroe/Conroe Chamber of Commerce, South Montgomery County 4th of July Committee, and the City of Shenandoah Industrial Development Corporation to name a few. When he isn’t working or volunteering, Miguel can be found visiting local businesses, playing golf, biking or running trails, soaking in live music, finding new places to eat, or spending time with his two pups Coco and Chewy. 8

RACHEL RICHMOND Operations Manager, Richmond Realty Group – RE/MAX The Woodlands and Spring Rachel Richmond currently serves as the Operations Manager of the Richmond Realty Group – RE/MAX The Woodlands and Spring. Prior to joining Richmond Realty Group, Rachel worked for Ernst & Young in the assurance group for five years focusing primarily on technology clients which included HP Inc. and BMC Software. Rachel earned her Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and a Master of Accountancy degree from Houston Baptist University, where she played on scholarship for the women’s golf team. She is active with the nonprofit YES to YOUTH as a host of their annual Shelter for Shelter fundraiser and currently serves as a Diplomat with The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce. When not working, Rachel enjoys spending time with friends and family as well as her two favorite hobbies: golfing and napping.

BRUCE COULSON TOUGH Attorney, Tough Law Firm, PLLC Bruce Coulson Tough graduated from the University of Houston with a B.S. in psychology in May 1976 and then graduated with his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Houston Law Center in 1980. He became licensed to practice before Supreme Court of the State of Texas Attorney and Counselor at Law in 1980 where he went on to work with the Harris County District Attorneys Office. In 1982 Mr. Tough worked for two years at Thomson & Elksins as an Associate Attorney and between 1982-1983 he became assistant to the president of Hartzog Family Restaurants, Inc. In 1983 he opened the Law Offices of Bruce C. Tough which he has since renamed as Tough Law Firm, PLLC. Bruce Tough has been elected on several boards since 1999 in The Woodlands. He served as the Director of The Woodlands Community Association from 1999 -2010 in which he became president in 2000. Mr. Tough served as the President of The Woodlands Fired Department from 2000-2004 and then from 2006 – 2009 and Vice Chairman of The Woodlands Township Board from 20082010. He went on to become Chairman, of The Woodlands Township Board from 2010 – 2015. He is a firm believer in giving back to the community and has served on several charitable organizations including Montgomery County United Way, Montgomery County March of Dimes, Boy Scouts of America – George Strake District and Memorial – Hermann The Woodlands Hospital Advisory Board. Mr. Tough has been a recipient of many awards. He is a graduate of the 1998 Leadership Montgomery County class. In 2004 he was named “Persons of The Year” by People Scene and was also named “Hometown Hero” of The Woodlands, Texas. In 2006 he was named South County Chamber of Commerce’s “Citizen of The Year” and 2010 he received the Small Business of The Year award by Lone Star College System. Bruce Tough was given the Chairman’s Award at The 2015 Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce. He is happily married with four children.

Congratulations to the new Next Generation Leadership Class!

ducation for Tomorrow Alliance welcomed the 2022 Next Generation Leadership (NGL) class in August. NGL is a year-long program designed to give 12th grade students the opportunity to engage with Montgomery County community leaders and to cultivate their own leadership skills. At the kick off, students had a chance to evaluate their personality test results and gain an understanding of how their type may affect interactions with others. In September, participants will engage with a panel from business, education, healthcare, and more on the leadership lessons amid the uncertainty of the past year. The emerging leaders represent 10 different high schools and will be supported throughout the year by a group of Leadership Montgomery County mentors. Business After Hours Shenandoah Convention & Visitors Bureau & Hyatt House On Tuesday, July 6th, the Shenandoah Convention and Visitors Bureau was pleased to sponsor and cohost The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce’s “Business After Hours” at the beautiful, 148-room Hyatt House extended stay hotel, that had just opened on May 26th, in advance of the Memorial Day weekend. The property is one of the latest additions to the city’s Metropark Square, a 70-acre mixed-use development adjacent to the Sam Moon Center, also owned by the Sam Moon Group. The hotel is the fourth Hyatt House branded hotel to open in the

greater Houston area, and the first of its kind to open in our North Houston area. It is also the only version of the latest design standard of this brand in the greater Houston area, and provides all the comforts and amenities that one would expect in an upscale apartment community, and guests can enjoy all the restaurants, shops and attractions located in Metropark Square right outside their door. Members had an opportunity to tour this new property and enjoyed making new business connections. Meet The New Members Shenandoah

Convention & Visitors Bureau co-hosts with EVEN Hotel Shenandoah The Shenandoah Convention & Visitors Bureau sponsored and cohosted the Chamber’s “Meet the New Members” at the lovely, 120-room, EVEN Hotel in late July. This new health and wellness focused brand by IHG (Intercontinental Hotel Group), is geared to those with a desire to stay on track with their healthy lifestyle and offers a variety of healthy eating options at Cork & Kale restaurant, as well as a state-of-the-art fitness studio, outdoor pool, and rooms that feature both sitting and standing desks, exercise balls, yoga mats, light hand weights in every room.

Members were treated to an evening of fun complete with amazing food, beverages, DJ, 360 photo booth as well as a little poker. In addition, members were able to view the property. 26

Chamber C.A.R.E.S. Committee Teams Up with B.I.G. Love Cancer Care

The Chamber hosted the July Networking Breakfast Truluck’s Seafood, Steak & Crab House. An event that many members enjoy attending, as it gives you an opportunity to learn about each business in attendance. The July theme was It’s Hot Out There! The Woodlands is a hot business market for us because…

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and the C.A.R.E.S. Committee was moved to bring awareness to one of our members that is dedicated to easing the childhood cancer journey. B.I.G. Love Cancer Care was established in 2007 in memory of Brooke A. Phillips. This organization’s core mission is to meet the most basic and urgent physical, emotional and financial needs of pediatric oncology and hematology patients and their families. During the month of September, the C.A.R.E.S. Committee will be hosting a donation drive to help feed families. When families have a child in the hospital fighting cancer, the experience is not only emotionally draining but also financially draining. To help families, we will be collecting gift cards for HEB, Kroger, Uber Eats, Door Dash, and local restaurants. B.I.G. Love Cancer Care currently delivers approximately 160 meals to Texas Children’s Hospital and want to be able to increase their outreach to may more families. Donations can be dropped off at The Woodlands Area Chamber through September 30th. A jury has recently awarded $10,000,000 to the plaintiffs represented by Wham & Rogers of The Woodlands in a wrongful death case. Mark Wham and Ryan Wham of Wham & Rogers, PLLC, along with co-counsel Bennie Rush, represented the parents of Marley Chapla, a 21-year-old college student from The Woodlands who was killed in 2017.

COMMUNITY NEWS Lone Star Family Health Center hosted the Coalition to Address Social Determinants of Health. Over 80 community members from a variety of service organizations attended. The Coalition’s mission is to build more community relationships and engage more with the community to enable the underserved population with resources in our community. During National Trails and Great Outdoors Month in June, a team of employees from The Howard Hughes Corporation walked, jogged and biked 1,825 miles along the nature trails that wind throughout The Woodlands, Bridgeland, and The Woodlands Hills. The original 300mile goal was surpassed 6X as the team covered the beautiful, nature-laced pathways.
