CLUBS & SOCIETIES Woldingham always has a fantastic range of clubs and societies for students to choose from and this year is no different. It’s part of what makes Woldingham so special and supports our goal to enable students to thrive both at school and beyond. Good exam results open doors to top universities and exciting careers, but activities, trips and clubs are important too. As well as being great fun, they enable students to foster wider interests, allow them to shine on stage, learn to be part of a team, try something out of their comfort zone and meet new people. As result, students develop the skills, confidence and interests to help them flourish throughout life. This directory is designed to help you explore the wide range of extracurricular opportunities available to students this academic year.

Attendance at clubs Active participation in clubs and activities is important and regular attendance is expected. We’re happy to accommodate club changes, subject to availability, and will maintain waiting lists for oversubscribed clubs. We are looking forward to the 2026-2027 academic year filled with enriching experiences and boundless opportunities for students.

CO-CURRICULAR DRAMA

Drama Company Years 7-9 KS3 Drama Company is our drama club for all budding performers in Years 7-9. Led by our Drama and Dance Ribbons, members work together as a theatre company to rehearse an adaptation of a well-known show. The production is performed in February, giving students the opportunity to build confidence, creativity and performance skills.

Ballet Performance Years 7-Upper Sixth (with ballet experience) | Autumn, Spring & Summer 1 (ending in May) Ballet Performance is a class for students with ballet experience and a desire to learn how to take ballet technique to the stage, as well as learning professional repertoire. Ballet Performance students perform their routines alongside Dance with Attitude in our annual dance show, Get Up & Dance.

Drama & Performing Arts Scholars Years 7-11 (scholars only) | Throughout the year All drama and performing arts scholars in Years 7-11 train together to produce work for two performance platforms during the school year. One is our Scholars Showcase in February, the other being to perform in the cast of either our KS3 Production or The Wold Fringe Festival Play.

Choreography Club Years 7-Upper Sixth | Autumn, Spring & Summer 1 (ending in May) Choreography Club is an opportunity for students passionate about dance to learn choreographic skills and devices to create their own work. Routines are performed in our annual dance show, Get Up & Dance.

Glee Club

Dance with Attitude

Years 7-Upper Sixth | Autumn, Spring & Summer (Performance during The Wold Fringe Festival) Glee Club is Woldingham’s musical theatre and contemporary performance company. It brings a fresh spin to the traditional musical theatre class. Students work in two groups - Glee Juniors and Glee Seniors - to stage songs and dances from popular musicals, movies and more. Each year Glee Club stages its finale performance during The Wold Fringe Festival week. Previous performances have included The Latino Music & Dance styles of Gloria Estefan, Mamma Mia Madness, Back to the Movies, and The Legends Live On.

Years 7-Upper Sixth | Autumn, Spring & Summer 1 (ending in May) Dance with Attitude is Woldingham’s resident dance school. Lessons are mixed ability and are split into Year 7 / Years 8-9 / Year 10-Upper Sixth classes. Students learn contemporary and commercial street dance styles, whilst preparing routines for our annual dance show, Get Up & Dance.

KS3 Drama Company

The Studio Theatre Company

Years 7-9 | Autumn & Spring 1 (performance in early February) The KS3 Drama Company works together with our Drama Ribbon and Drama Ambassadors, under the guidance of Drama Department staff, to stage an adaptation of a classic or well-known tale. The company is open to all budding performers in Years 7-9, and will conclude with a studentled performance platform in the auditorium.

Years 7-11 The Studio Theatre Company is open to students in Years 7–11 and produces two studio plays each year. Working as an ensemble under the direction of our external acting teacher, students develop characterisation, vocal and physical performance skills while learning how to engage audiences and perform within an intimate theatre setting.

Wold Theatre Lab

Performing Arts Masterclass Programme

Years 7-Upper Sixth Wold Theatre Lab is an elite performance programme for Lower and Upper Sixth students who have demonstrated advanced technical ability and wish to further develop their skills in preparation for professional training. Year 11 students may join by invitation. Students wishing to attend must request a place directly from Stacey Williams.

Years 7-Upper Sixth | Throughout the year Adhoc ‘one-off’ masterclass programme for drama and performing arts scholars provided by visiting practitioners/theatre professionals. Programme will be announced to scholars when scheduled. Where additional places are available, these will be advertised to non-scholars.

Full Scale Productions

Tech Club

Years 10 & Lower Sixth Festival Play | Spring 2 & Summer Sixth Form Production | Autumn AUDITION REQUIRED The opportunity to perform in a full scale production each year. Note: Year 11 do not have a full scale production due to exam constraints. However, all GCSE Drama students perform in two studio performances as part of their GCSE Drama studies.

Years 7-Upper Sixth The Tech Club is a place for students to explore the different areas of theatre tech and learn what happens behind the scenes. Members will develop skills in lighting, sound, set, and stage management while gaining practical experience and working together to support school performances.

CO-CURRICULAR MUSIC

Caritas Years 7-9 AUDITION REQUIRED Caritas is Woldingham’s Junior Chamber Choir, providing an opportunity for young but capable singers to develop their choral singing further; places are through audition and Caritas singers play a large role in leading the school’s choral ensembles.

Amaris Years 10-Upper Sixth AUDITION REQUIRED Amaris provides an opportunity for experienced singers to develop their choral singing further; places are through audition and Amaris singers play a huge role in leading the school’s choral ensembles. Amaris was runner-up in the inaugural GSA Choir of the Year competition, performing repertoire including Dies Irae by Stroope, The Seal Lullaby by Eric Whitacre, Fire Dance of Luna by Darius Lim and The Lamb by Taverner.

Chapel Choir Years 7-Upper Sixth (boarders) Chapel Choir leads Sunday Mass and other whole school Masses, such as for First Holy Communion, Confirmation and Old Girls’ Day. Often singing with a small ensemble, a recent highlight was a visit to Eton College for a joint evensong, performing Stanford’s Magnificat in C.

Years 7-Upper Sixth AUDITION REQUIRED For students working towards ABRSM and Trinity music exams. Drop-in clinics. Parents, VMTs and academic teachers can sign up/refer students.

Years 7-Upper Sixth Flutissimo students play a mix of classical and popular repertoire; it’s a great opportunity to play with friends and take part in concerts. Come try it out.

Beginner Theory

Junior Choir

Years 7-Upper Sixth A chance for developing singers and instrumentalists to get to grips with the foundations of music theory and music notation, including notes of the treble and bass clefs, key signatures, and time signatures. Delivered in informal group sessions before school, Beginner Theory lays firm foundations to support vocal and instrumental study.

Years 7-9 Our fun and welcoming Junior Choir rehearses every week with energy and enthusiasm, gearing up to concerts, festivals and hopefully tours. The choir has performed a fantastic range of music, from The Carpenter’s Close to You, to When I Grow Up from Matilda, from Disney’s You’ll be in my Heart to an anti-bullying song, I Have a Voice. 3

Years 7-Upper Sixth Working towards ABRSM Grade 5 Music Theory, this club develops understanding of notation, harmony, keys, chords, rhythm and musical terminology. Ideal for musicians wanting to strengthen their theory knowledge, support their practical music-making and prepare for their Grade 5 Theory exam.

Years 7-Upper Sixth Our training orchestra, Sinfonietta, offers a fantastic opportunity to explore the world of orchestral music. Whether you’re a beginner or an intermediate musician with grades 1-4, this ensemble nurtures your talents while fostering teamwork and musicality. Discover the joy of performing classical masterpieces and modern compositions with fellow musicians.

Music Scholars’ Chamber Music Years 7-Upper Sixth | Summer Our music scholars put on a united front with their different instrumental/vocal skill sets to give dazzling performances. Recently, we played the epic 007 Bond medley and Howard Blake’s The Snowman with the Year 7 choir, accompanied by film screenings of both.

Symphony Orchestra Years 7-Upper Sixth (intermediate to advance grade) Tackling a wide range of repertoire from Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping Beauty and Saint-Saëns’ Danse Macabre, our Symphony Orchestra explores the larger ensemble playing and relishes in opportunities to play with leading London orchestras on an annual basis.

Percussion Ensemble Years 7-Upper Sixth A rhythm-tastic ensemble that gets everybody’s feet tapping with interesting and complex beats, whilst showcasing how much any one instrument can do. Get beating with us.

The Brandenburg String Ensemble Years 7-Upper Sixth The Brandenburg String Ensemble blends classical and popular pieces, offering students a chance to perform, bond with peers, and refine their craft as string players. Join us to elevate your musical journey.

Senior Choir Years 10-Upper Sixth Senior Choir rehearses after school on Mondays with a wide range of repertoire covering classical (Tundra by Ola Gjeilo), musical theatre (Chicago medley), pop (Someone Like You) and R’n’B (You Don’t Own Me). A major highlight is our Carol Service in Westminster Cathedral, though there are performance opportunities galore throughout the year.

Cross Country Club Years 7-Upper Sixth The club allows students to have a 15 to 20 minute run in the area around the school two lunchtimes per week. Everyone can run at their own pace and can attend as often as they are able. We have several different runs depending on the weather and ability of the runners. The club is only cancelled in very extreme weather.

Athletics Squad Years 7-Upper Sixth | Summer Embrace the spirit of competition and personal growth in athletics. Train in various track and field events, such as sprinting, long jump, and shot put, in a supportive and determined environment.

Badminton Club Years 7-Upper Sixth | Throughout the year The Badminton Club is aimed at those who want to improve their skills, stay active, and have fun with friends. Whether they’re a beginner or an experienced player, everyone is welcome to take part in informal games and friendly competitions.

Ancient Greek Club Years 7-9 Aimed at Year 7-8 in particular, though also open to current Latin Year 9 and GCSE students especially if they wish to support. We will learn some of the language but also particularly focus on Myths and Legends/Greek mythology. Who were the Titans? What Underworld punishments occurred? Who were Perseus and Medusa and Theseus and the Minotaur? We will also look at Classics competitions in this club, including some drama.

Beekeeping Club Years 7-Upper Sixth Dive into the fascinating world of beekeeping with our Beekeeping Club. Discover the importance of these vital pollinators, learn about hive management, and gain handson experience in maintaining beehives. Join us to develop a deeper understanding of bee behaviour, honey production, and environmental conservation while fostering a love for nature and sustainable practices.

Art Club Years 7-9 An after school club where students come together to share ideas and make artwork together using a range of materials. Students can also bring in their own projects and work independently with guidance from our artist in residence.

Biology Society Sixth Form Biology Society is a chance to push A Level Biology students beyond the curriculum. Students get the chance to present on topics of interest, run charity events and activities for younger years as well as learn about new and exciting developments in biology.

Astronomy Club Sixth Form Explore stars, planets, and galaxies through hands-on activities, telescope sessions, and engaging discussions. Perfect for curious minds with a passion for space, this club offers a fun and accessible way to deepen your understanding of the universe. 8

Years 11-Upper Sixth ChemSoc will give you the opportunity to explore the wider world of chemistry beyond your study in class, try different and unusual practical ideas, take part in competitions beyond and share ideas about areas of Chemistry that inspire you.

Years 7-11 Weekly club that explores different aspects of life in Britain through a variety of topics and interactive activities. The club is aimed at all international students, who will be encouraged to share their own culture and traditions within the group. Throughout the year, we will explore topics such as British traditions and customs, British humour and comedy, famous British inventions, music through the decades, sports culture and much more. An excellent opportunity for all international girls to explore British culture and embrace their experience studying in the UK.

Debating and Public Speaking Club

GCSE Art Study Years 10-11 Aimed at GCSE students, this is an extra study support session where you can receive additional help from a member of the art department, as well as working on your homework and coursework tasks.

Years 10-Upper Sixth Develop your confidence, communication and critical thinking skills. Prepare persuasive speeches, and participate in lively debates and public speaking events. Learn to express your ideas clearly, think on your feet, and speak with confidence. Everyone is welcome!

Sixth Form Geography Society is about expanding your passion and knowledge of the world beyond the classroom. You will meet regularly with our Geography leaders, have the opportunity to explore global issues, and promote the subject through organising events, quizzes, competitions, and projects for younger students.

Years 7-11 Digital Dreamers is the place to code, create, and explore! Build games, design websites, try programming challenges, and bring your ideas to life. Whether you’re a complete beginner or already love coding, come along, learn new skills, and discover what you can create with technology.

Years 7-Upper Sixth Learn to mix, blend, combine and select music using professional mixing equipment and software.

Years 7-Upper Sixth Guerrilla History Society explores the hidden, unconventional, and overlooked sides of history. Like the guerrilla groups who operated outside the mainstream, we’ll step beyond the boundaries of the school curriculum, reading and discussing articles on unexpected topics. Open to all year groups, this is a space to question, debate, and discover history differently.

Equestrian Club Years 7-Upper Sixth ADDITIONAL COST Gallop into excellence with our Equestrian Club. Suitable for experienced riders with access to a pony, this team offers the thrill of competition and the pride of representing our school in showjumping or dressage. Years 7-Upper Sixth ADDITIONAL COST Experience the thrill of Horse Riding while developing balance, confidence, and equestrian skills. Whether you are looking to improve your riding technique or simply enjoy time in the saddle, these sessions provide expert instruction in a safe and supportive environment for riders of varying abilities.

Junior REthink Years 7-9 Junior REthink is Woldingham’s theology & philosophy club for Years 7-9, which aims to re-examine and challenge our beliefs and opinions, to both expand them and understand them better.

Indoor Rock Climbing Years 7-Upper Sixth ADDITIONAL COST Challenge yourself with Indoor Rock Climbing! Build strength, balance, and problem-solving skills as you tackle a variety of climbing routes. Suitable for all experience levels, this exciting activity encourages resilience, confidence, and teamwork while offering a fun and rewarding physical challenge.

Junior STEM Club Years 7-9 Come and have fun with science and technology, trying practicals you don’t get to do in lessons and learning about new discoveries. 11

KS3 Art Scholars

Example dishes include: duck breasts with teriyaki and plum sauce, pulled chicken and red pepper fajitas, and poached peaches with honey mascarpone. All dishes cooked are taken away by the students to enjoy with family or friends. The programme costs £1250. To register your interest, please complete the form on the Parent Portal.

Years 7-9 This is for our KS3 Art scholars, invite only. Students will work alongside our artist in residence on a weekly basis to develop key skills.

Years 7-9 ADDITIONAL COST Under the supervision of trained staff, students will follow a 10-week course, learning to cook delicious meals such as spaghetti bolognese, pesto salmon, and toffee crisp cookies. Literary Society Years 10-Upper Sixth In these weekly meetings we explore a wide range of texts, including prose, poetry, and literary non-fiction, as well as film clips and illustrative material. Our meetings are directed by students’ interests, and students are encouraged to lead sessions on texts or topics that interest them.

Leiths Certificate: Introduction to Confident Mandarin Club Cookery Years 7-10

The Mandarin Club at Woldingham School is the perfect place to discover the exciting world of China! Whether you want to learn the language, make sushi, whisk matcha, explore anime and pop culture, or take part in fun seasonal celebrations and cultural activities, there’s something for everyone. Come along, make new friends, try something new, and experience the best of Chinese culture in a fun and welcoming atmosphere!

Year 10 & Lower Sixth ADDITIONAL COST This is a 30-week course for students who want to learn key cookery skills through a broad range of global, modern and delicious recipes, with a view to cooking for travel or independent life. Each week there are demonstrations and practical cooking with the course culminating in a graded practical assessment. 12

Years 9-Upper Sixth A club to prepare students for maths competitions, such as Hans Woyda, UKMT team challenges and maths feasts. A great way to practise problem-solving style questions to improve your skills and application of maths.

Years 11-Upper Sixth KS5 Physics Society is for students who want to explore physics beyond the classroom. We will discuss fascinating topics, investigate current discoveries, tackle challenging problems and explore how physics shapes our understanding of the universe. Whether you’re considering studying physics at university or simply enjoy asking big questions, this is the club for you.

Model United Nations Years 7-Upper Sixth Model UN explores the roles of countries within the UN and their stance on key topics and current events. Participants assume the role of national ambassadors or representatives to debate and seek to solve global issues.

Poetry Appreciation Years 7-Upper Sixth Discover the power of words! Read and explore poetry by a range of classic and contemporary poets, write your own poems, and build confidence through poetry readings and recital competitions. Come along to discover new voices, find your own, and experience the joy of poetry. Everyone is welcome!

Netball Shooting Years 7-Upper Sixth Step onto the court and fine-tune your shooting skills with our Netball Shooting Club to sharpen your accuracy, technique, and confidence. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned shooter, everyone is welcome.

Psychology and Sociology Society Years 9-Upper Sixth A place for students to discuss, debate and explore all things psychology and sociology related.

Outdoor Skills Years 7-Upper Sixth Discover how to explore and understand the outdoors with a range of skills including mapmaking, navigation, shelter-building, fire-lighting, first aid, nature identification and conservation.

Reading Club Years 7-8 A club for Years 7-8 to choose, read and discuss a book with a member of LE staff. 13

Sacred Heart Club Years 7-Upper Sixth Getting involved in the wider Chaplaincy focus of the school, including outreach to surrounding areas, and playing a key part in encouraging the school to live out the Sacred Heart Goals.

Shakespeare Society Years 9-Upper Sixth This club explores the plays and poems of William Shakespeare, looking at texts not studied in class, such as Henry V, King Lear, The Winter’s Tale or his sonnets. We read and discuss highlights from the plays, watch recorded performances - and aim to take students to the theatre to see Shakespeare’s plays in performance. 14

Lower Sixth Woldingham’s bespoke Leadership Programme is an extra-curricular option for Lower Sixth students. With an emphasis on personal growth, through the programme students develop highly soughtafter skills, including communication, listening, leadership and coaching skills. Project and service elements allow participants to practise leadership skills. The Leadership Programme is accredited by the Institute of Leadership and Management, at Associate level membership. This gives you use of a digital credential which can be used to demonstrate your skills to future employers.

The Southern Schools Book Award Years 8-11 Students in Years 8 to 11 can join the Southern Schools Book Award group, meeting weekly during the autumn and spring terms. We read books, vote for our favourite, and attend the awards ceremony in February, where students meet authors and buy books. This year’s shortlist includes titles Lily’s Monster and Oxford Blood.

Learn flips, twists, and routines while fostering teamwork, body control, and a sense of achievement in a safe and supervised setting.

FREE SESSIONS An eight-bay, 190-yard matted driving range with targets where anyone of any ability can come and learn the basics of golf, or work on their game at an elite level. All equipment provided, but feel free to bring your own. It is a society where all its members work together to improve and have fun doing so, no judgements and no obligation to come every week.

Wine Society Upper Sixth ADDITIONAL COST The Upper Sixth Wine Tasting Society introduces students to grape varieties, winemaking techniques, and the history and culture of wine. Young Enterprise Lower Sixth The Young Enterprise ‘Company Programme’ empowers young people to set up and run a student company under the guidance of a business advisor. Students make all the decisions about their business, from deciding on the company name, managing the company finances and marketing the product/ service to the public. Participants gain practical business experience and key employability skills to help them thrive in the 21st century workplace. There are limited spaces, which will be determined by a competitive application process.

LAMDA, Music Tuition and Tennis Lessons ADDITIONAL COST LAMDA, music tuition and tennis lessons run alongside our extracurricular programme of clubs and activities. There is an additional payment, which is made directly to the teacher. Lessons are rotated so students don’t miss the same lesson each week.
