Every year during Advent, a very special magic descends upon the famous resort on Lake Wörthersee. The entire place is transformed into an idyllic town of angels, serving as the backdrop for one of Austria’s most beautiful Advent markets. A select assortment of local arts and crafts, culinary delights, and the harmonious sounds of the Christmas season blend to create a unique symphony. The Silent Art Advent in Pörtschach invites visitors to enjoy a special Advent path right along the shores of Lake Wörthersee, winding along the picturesque promenade and across the unspoiled peninsula. Amid glowing lighting displays and the serene Ie of the lake, art takes centre stage. Local artists showcase their works, inviting visitors to witness the creative process and create spaces for wonder, reflection, and discovery. Under the theme “Art that moves. Sounds that touch.” art is not only visible but also audible here: chime performances and atmospheric concerts make the Silent Art Advent a special experience for all the senses. The Advent market is complemented by regional cuisine from local businesses, featuring winter specialities and a unique lakeside setting. At the foot of the world’s tallest wooden viewing tower, the municipality of Keutschach am See invites guests to its festive Advent market on Pyramidenkogel. At 920 metres above sea level, visitors can enjoy a unique wintertime view of the Carinthian lake landscape. Spread out around the tower’s base, you will find a charming Advent market filled with local products from the Alps-Adriatic region, regional specialities, and traditional handicrafts. Particular emphasis is placed on quality, local ingredients, and authentic traditions. Local music groups, choirs, and instrumental ensembles create a warm ambiance by performing live and completely acoustic. Cosy open fires, fragrant roasted chestnuts, and hot mulled wine make Advent on Pyramidenkogel a cosy experience for the whole family. The peninsula of Maria Wörth retains its charm with its two landmark churches, known as “the heart of Lake Wörthersee”. The nearly 900-year-old winter church hosts candlelit prayers and guided historical tours. Peaceful, contemplative – Maria Wörth glows in the light of the lanterns and invites visitors to enjoy a traditional market right by the water (at the Maria Wörth pier) on weekends. Here, guests perusing the stalls can warm up by the open fires and enjoy the Christmas spirit while sampling typical baked goods and other seasonal treats. The scent of mulled wine, spices, and biscuits fills the air as you can let your gaze wander across the lake. Small yet exquisite – the Ferlach Advent Magic The Advent market in Ferlach, the town of gunsmiths, opens on Fridays. Local clubs and businesses set up their stalls here, including a festive programme of events organised by the kindergartens, primary schools, music school, and choirs. “Krampus” parade: In 2026, the spectacular event returns to Ferlach’s main square, featuring traditional figures from both the Rosental valley and all over Carinthia. At the start of the parade, St. Nicholas will also be there with gifts for the children.

ZUGängliche Accessible Art KUNST at the Station
In collaboration with local businesses, clubs, and the town council, a pre-Christmas programme has been created, showcasing music, culinary delights, regional products, and many thoughtful touches. A true highlight for visitors is the arrival of the Christ Child by boat. The Advent gathering, held right at the pier in Krumpendorf, invites you to stop by and enjoy some good company.
Right next to the Pörtschach train station, you’ll find the ZUGänglicheKUNST gallery. Its name is a clever play on words - combining Zug (the German word for train) and zugänglich (meaning accessible). This charming venue houses a Christmas market showcasing exquisite, handcrafted goods, where unique wooden and ceramic pieces, alongside handmade jewellery, await discovery.
